This is one of the best stories I have ever had the opportunity to read. It's a page turner from the first page to the last. I plan to read the rest of the books in the series, and I suggest that all you other readers of science fiction do the same.
One other suggestion that I have is that M.J.Caan fire his editor. The spelling and grammar in this book is atrocious. To me, it is a shame to see a great read like this marred by the misuse of there, they're, and their. The use of want for won't, and countless words misspelled outright. This book was just too good to be presented in such a fashion. High quality writing should be graced with high quality editing before publication.

This is my 2nd time reading through this book and eventually, series, the author reached out to me before these were published and offered me a review copy. After his series was rereleased with what I was told were spelling and other issues I was sent the revised editions to reread and alter my reviews if necessary.

Something crashes to Earth near a remote, rural, Maine doing terrible damage to the township and worse showering the area with weird radiation which begins to alter and mutate those it's fallen upon. Many people die unable to handle the mutations. Then what crashed to walks out of the destruction. Earth has met het first alien. He rescues Maura allowing her radiation exposure and mutation to spike to unbelievable levels, she's becoming a superhero as are others to somewhat lesser degree.

From here it's an action packed espionage and spying story with foreign agents trying to capture not only the data generated by studying the "accelerated" but they want a live sample of their own and nothing is going to stand in their way.

Cann is an engaging author who does a decent job of fleshing out his characters making you root for the good guy and want the bad guys to lose. Battle scenes are exciting and within the parameters the author created are believable (if you believe in superheroes that is) and kept me riveted to the screen of my Kindle. Good fun.

When the science is to soft

I read a lot of sci-fi and have enjoyed many new kindle authors. As a sci-fi reader I don’t have a problem suspending belief in reality. BUT when a sci-fi author writes this

"They were heavier, and gravity was accelerating them far more quickly than it pulled at him." from "Earth's First: An Alien Invasion Opera" by MJ Caan

I realize I’m no longer reading sci-fi. I guess I was forewarned it does have Opera in the title. A proof reader with even a passing interest in sci-fi would be a HUGE benefit to this new crop of 250page per book self published authors.

Oddly the first chapter or so had a very 1950's feeling to the writing style. It reminded me of the Mars series by Burroughs. Then when the first characters started speaking and interacting the books had a much more modern day style to their writing.
As other reviewers have pointed out the book is plagued by typos (thrown for throne, etc.) but I've read a lot of books from Project Gutenberg where almost none of the scans are checked for mistakes and I've learned not to let them ruin a story for me. I did report them and hopefully others did as well so the publisher will fix then soon.
I liked the book, okay, right up until the worst cliffhanger ending in twenty years. It didn't say book one on the cover (it says book 2, 3 & 4 on the rest of the. . . trilogy?) and it's my fault for not reading the entire description but to be honest the description on Amazon is a festival of spoilers and once I had the basic idea (The Man Who Fell to Earth) I decided to stop with the potential spoilers and buy the book.
The writing, not counting the typos, was rather good for a first time author. I found the majority of characters well rounded and human. I was rather annoyed by the super powers some humans were imbued with a little over the top. Even accepting how insanely powerful Maura has become I think she became too accustomed to them too quickly and too easily for me.
The ending, just stops, right in the middle of a battle the book stops with a final, unanswered question and you need to buy the second book to see what happens. Personally I'd rather books in a series end at a lull, a slow point.
Let's see how the next book goes.

A great story but flawed.

M.J. Caan has written a very original story, exciting and full of energy. The characters are well presented and sympathetic, the "good guys" are likable and the villains such as you love to hate. Unfortunately, the author has committed so many egregious errors that it darn near ruins the book. Nearly every page has several mistakes in spelling, punctuation and word use. Things like plurals that should be possesives and vice versa, etc. At first I thought that the author had dictated it to a device which was unable to understand speech clearly, but then I encountered obvious errors in spelling and word choice. Where, oh my gosh was the editor? What was said editor thinking when he/she passed the book for publication? *Was there an editor at all?* The author desperately needs one!
In spite of all this, it's still enjoyable due to the great story. I plan to read the rest of the books in the series because I absolutely have to learn what happens next!

Good read with a few small errors

If you are going to write anything to a little basic research. Galileo did experiments back in the 1500s about weight of falling speed showing objects fall at the same speed even with different weights. This is not even high school physics. Then could not get US army ranks more than remotely right. There were a few things like that. That said it is an enjoyable story and for the most part told well. The interactions and relationships between different characters were top notch. Good story for a new writer but seriously needs to fact check some basic things.

For starters a body falling with the speed of 4 x the speed of a bullet would not make a mile wide impact crater. Even if the body weighed 1000 lbs and let's say it was a high powered rifle bullet which would be about 3000 ft per sec. That would be about 330,000 N of energy. About the force of a Honda Civic hitting a wall at 25 mph. Do a little research before writing stupid shit. The whole book is written in the same 1/2 assed low IQ style. If you like having your intelligence insulted, this is the book for you.

A nice start

This book involves a lot of information. Some that is useful some that is not. I would recommend that you read this for yourself. The my opinion it starts with a good thought and premise. However there is other information that's been left out until later in the story line. As it begins to develop we see what happens in the end. There is a lot of violence in this book and I would say it's okay but some of it gets a little more graphic depending on how you think of it. I would suggest that you read it and make your own opinion.

A fantastic Sci Fi reading you don't want to miss

While this is not my typical genre I do like a good Sci Fi read and the good ones are hard to come by. Earth's First exceeded all my expectations with a convoluted plot, nifty characters and lots of action. My favorite part (tiny spoiler) is when Maura dispatches her rat bastard boyfriend and this roller coaster of a story just starts streaking off the tracks.

Interesting concept

I enjoyed this book for the characters and their solonite powers. It promises to provide even more interesting adventures as the books continue. However, I could not rate it 5 stars due to the frequent misspelling, mispunctuation, and moments of poor grammar. I found those errors jarring and distracting. This ebook needs a good proofreader to correct it. Yet I still am looking forward to continuing the adventures in the next book.

Good story with interesting characters.

Good plot, good mix of character development and interesting storyline. The first half of the book reads well... After that it seems like the story suddenly stopped being proofread. I hate it when the story stalls because an author will use words not in their vocabulary. If you don't know what a word means either look it up or don't use it.

Enjoyed it

A lot to unpack. Perhaps more than can be reasonably packed into a book one. But an interesting premise nonetheless (or collection of them). Rather well told I think. Not too far beyond young adult but perhaps a bit too much “weird stuff”. Plenty of death and gore if you’re into that. Some closure here and there but a lot left for subsequent books. Rating for me: maybe.

I enjoyed the book and found it a light quick read with some surprises and questions that will probably get me to return for the next book in the series. There were small typos that were a minor bother in places but I recommend if you're looking for some quick Sci-fi this hot summer.

Need some editing

Great storyline and premise, but about 70% in, it starts to dawdle around. Continuity breaks down, typos pile up and I almost stop reading. Some solid editing would make this a 4 or 5 star book.

Astounded at the 4 and 5 star reviews! We're thrown into the results of the changes instead of gradually informed. Once the sexual deviant was introduced, I deleted the book. Really, that sort of garbage just isn't entertaining.

Very good read

I enjoyed this story. An interesting take on alien invasion. I liked the characters. Kind of a slow start but they built up quickly and developed much more as the series progressed. All three books in the series were fun to read.

Good origin story

Well constructed story; engaging world building. A well rounded cast of characters with solid motivations and excellent dialog.
That being said, I gave the novel 3 stars for some uneven and distracting editing.
