Rate this book
Why did the white girl cross the road...

When a severely drunk and slightly drugged Finley Roze slipped into a hospital bed, she never imagined it would start her on a path to meeting the man of her dreams. Mostly because she didn't believe in the man of her dreams, what seventeen year old even thinks of that?

But when Aiden Sorenson turns out to be Mr. Right everything else ends up being wrong, including Finley's family history.

But what is an average teenage girl if she isn't resilient, stubborn, and charming when she needs to be?

Don't miss this True Love Story, AKA fairy tale romance.

Just don't tell Finley.

This book is a sweet modern day fairy tale. Finely Roze is a party girl and gets into some trouble and is shipped off to Canada by her father. While there she meets Aiden Sorenson. They fall in love, only later does Fin discover a secret that he is hiding. Aiden is a prince, 2nd in line for the throne. Fin being not royal, is not what his family in-visions for his future wife, but being only 2nd in line gives them some freedom. However after a tragedy hits Aiden's family, the two have to reevaluate their relationship.

The book was pretty good. It had a few moments where I wanted to strangle Fin for acting so childish and bratty. Once Aiden's secret was out, the book seem to just fly by and was choppy in some places. It seemed that every time they were getting along and everything was going smoothly, Fin would throw in a wench and start a fight over mostly nothing. The characters at times seem really immature, even though they were in high school, but yet at other times seemed very mature.

Overall the book was sweet and a good read. :)

It was an okay read for me. I was kind of disappointed though, because it had such awesome reviews. This book had its good points as well as its bad points. I'll discuss one of each: For starters, one thing I tried to like about this book, but failed miserably, was the heroine herself, Finley. I tried to like her, I did, and I don't know if it's just me, but she seriously annoyed me most of the time. She's impulsive, immature, extremely ungrateful... the list goes on. She always just acts childishly without thinking about the consequences, which irks me like crazy. The one thing that made up for her as a whole was Aiden. Personally, I don't think she deserved him at all. I honestly do not understand how he fell crazy in love with her the way he did and continuously decided to put up with all her immature crap. But oh well, I guess that's the point of the love story in this one. I guess I just had higher expectations for this book, but it certainly didn't meet them.

From what i read it felt somewhat like Vain By Fisher Amelie, but the lead female was exiled to a retirement home in Canada. Lead male seemed to talk oddly for a teen his age.

Will leave this book to the 16 year olds it seems to be aimed at, unless someone can convince me to pick it back up.

“You have to let yourself be open to the possibility of true love.”

"I let myself be vulnerable and got my heart broken, but I also fell in love.”

Yep I fell in love too. Tara Brown really did a fantastic job of sucking me in and keeping me so engrossed to the story that I could not put it down until the very end. This book had everything I could have asked for in a romance story. Normally I’m not a huge YA fan but OMG, Tara’s words had me forgetting that I was reading YA. It doesn’t have the steamy sex scenes that I normally gravitate to but what this book did give me was a ton of laughs, a lot of attitude and and a very romantic love affair.

“So… I may or may not have had a MAC lip-gloss in my pocket. but it wasn’t like I was stealing it.”

“I swallowed hard, begging my eyes to water, but those whores weren’t giving me even a single trickle.”

This story starts off where Finley finds herself in a whole lot of trouble. She’s your typical teenager with a lot of attitude and something to say about everything. Her parents aren’t the greatest so they end up sending her away to a relatives place where she hopefully gets her act together. This is where she meets man of her dreams and life as she knows it starts to change little by little. She is feisty, mouthy and in all honesty she acts like a spoiled brat but you can’t help but like her a lot. Let me tell you the way this girl talks had me laughing out loud so many times my daughter was asking me what was so funny.

I fell in love with Aiden right from the beginning. This 19 year old kid with the world on his shoulders, so proper, so mature and so damn romantic stole my heart. There wasn’t a single thing I didn’t like about this boy. Honestly I couldn’t get enough of him. I loved the banter between Fin and Aiden. They both completely come from two different worlds but honestly that doesn’t stop them from finding a way to be together. The fact that they are such opposites is what makes them so perfect for each other.

Tara’s spin on this modern day fairy tale was so well written. I felt like I was watching a new better version of the princess dairies. Every single character that is introduced to us in this story feels like real people. It’s so sweet, so funny and yes I am repeating myself but it truly is such a beautiful romantic story.. I NEED more of this story.. There isn’t a cliff hanger, you get this amazing epilogue that you want to go on for days. So yep, I need more Fin and Aiden. I also would love to see this turn into a complete series. I’d love to see the secondary characters get their own story too..

I’m a huge fan of Tara Brown’s work but honest to god, this one is my new favorite from her. I love her ability to write all kinds of genres and honestly I think she nailed this. Definitely a must read. You will not be disappointed by the lack of sex in it. She gives us so much in this story that steamy sex scenes aren’t needed. You don’t even miss it for a second.

*5 OMG Stars*

“If Snookie got her happily ever after, so can any girl.” #TrueStory

I didn’t know what I was getting when I started this book but the moment I started reading I was cracking up and falling in love. I think a big part was because I live with a teenage white girl and the words coming from Finley’s mouth I watch and hear daily in my own world. This book is what I would call a modern day fairy tale with a touch too much reality. It is Kate Middleton behind closed doors, you know the version we never truly get to see.

“Well? We know all your dirty little secrets. Now give us the dirty.”

I don’t know how I want to review this book because it is a book once you start you can’t put down and once you done you are left saying I need to have everyone read this book immediately!! Actually I think I was messaging people in the middle of reading it to start reading it. Yeah I did that!!

“White girls can totally keep a secret. It just takes eight of their closest friends to do it.”

Yes this book speaks with a language that is very common in high school walls and in homes all over. I totally say OH MY GOD and that girl is totally Cray, Cray. I also might be addicted to taking selfies of myself thanks to my daughter and the gift of communicating through snapchat and Instagram.

“If a white girl makes a duck dace and doesn’t Instagram it, did it happen?”

With that I guess I need to tell you about the story line and quit talking in a language that only white girls can understand. Tara Brown captured this storyline brilliantly and she wrote a book I could finally share with my daughter and her friends. It has a Princess Dairies feel but revived and written in a way that you can’ t help but fall completely in love all over again.

Finley is a girl who is a teenager who has been cursed with the stepmother from hell and because of that she has a father who is clueless. So after a little trouble Finley is sent away to live with her Aunt for the summer, Hattie. Finley thinks this the worse thing to happen to her just like any teenager but what she doesn’t realize is it’s about to be the beginning of her own fairy tale.

“Oh my God.” He was smug. “I know right?” I scoffed. “Don’t talk to me. I think I might hate you right now.”

Finley reaction is that of any teenager I hate you, you ruin my life but then it happens teenage love. Finley meets Aiden and we watch as a teenage love story takes off. The thing with teenage love is when it happens it is so pure and Tara captured how the emotions that they feel so strong. But this couple was different, this was more romance and we watched as he open her eyes. Aiden made me swoon and he this prince you want your daughter to find. Aiden is exactly what you would call the perfect gentlemen with a touch of amazing!!

“Do you admit defeat, then?”

“In what?”

“Your feelings for me? Do you admit you like me as much as I like you?” I grinned. “Never.”

Now, for the best part of all. Tara wrote one of the best endings I have ever experienced. I am not lying I was crying, I was smiling and I had a million butterflies in my stomach. Yes, it was that good. And that left me wanting this book to turn into a series. Yes, do not worry there is no cliffhanger and everything is wrapped up in a pretty bow with all the hearts and flowers to go along. But there are characters in this book that I would love more of, characters that I absolutely fell in love with. Seriously when I finished this book the only thing I was left saying was OH GOD CAN I PLEASE GET MORE NOW!!!

“It truly was a fairy tale ending and I would have the crown to prove it,”

Damn I just want a crown and I think I want a pumpkin spice latte.

I knew when I set eyes on this book that I had to read it. The title is so eye-catching, and it instantly attracted me. I think the title alone, will easily compel any other reader to read this book.

Sometimes I take too many selfies and I don't know which one I should post, and I want to post them all, but then I don't want to look narcissistic.

The protagonist, Finley, is 17 and a drama queen who's obsessed with instagram, twitter and basically any kind of social network. She tells lies, talks in circles, and is the typical spoiled and stubborn teenage girl. Now, I know she sounds like an awful character, and to be honest I hated her at first. But then she gradually changes, and when I realized that she's just another confused soul I started to like her. But it takes her a while to get her act together, and I suppose she would have never changed if her father hadn't sent her away. I think her friends are a really bad influence, and her evil stepmother only makes things worse.

So, Finley has to spend summer with her mom's aunt, Hattie, and that is when I truly started enjoying this book. I really like how the author writes about the elderly people; she incorporates them to the story adding some unusual yet entertaining side characters, and she manages to do that without making it look awkward. The presence of wise people around Finley has certainly helped her to mature, but most of her transformation is thanks to Aiden, who's the only other young kid in town.

"I missed your Shakespeare."

He leaned in, taking a deep inhale of my hair. "And I missed the scent of you in my air."

I think Finley and Aiden are so perfect together. The two have opposite personalities; he's responsible, secretive and sweet while she's reckless, mouthy and stubborn. Their differences are definitely what attracts them to each other. I really like Aiden, not only because he's handsome and caring, but also because he is wise beyond his years. He's passionate about everything he does, and I like how he doesn't play around with girls, unlinke the other boys in Finley's school.
Aside from the two main characters and the elderly people, all the other characters are enjoyable to read as well.

The author's writing is fabulous! I really enjoyed all the funny quotes and the clever dialogues. This author certainly knows how to make her readers laugh, and keep them entertained. But aside from the humor, there are also some serious stuff. The book deals a lot with family issues and friendship. Finley has to go through a lot of things, like dealing with self-doubt and the fact that everyone thinks she did drugs and cut herself. It's all more difficult for her because she doesn't have the support of her family, and her friends betrayed her.

The only reason I know anything about history and the world is the smart people who cast the historical romances with yummy dudes!

Although I immensly enjoyed reading this book, I didn't give it 5 stars because the story is predictable, and I already knew how it would end. It also focuses a little on history and historical monuments which are not really my thing. There was a part when the book got all descriptive, and was a bit boring. But except for that, I fully enjoyed the rest of the story.

A fairy tale romance mixed with Mean Girls and a pinch of Cinderella story, White Girl Problems is a really amusing and enjoyable book that will make readers burst out laughing.

This is what I would call a classic modern day fairy tale. Think Kate Middleton but on steroids. Or actually, hopped up on pixie stix and Red Bull.

The language is very current. And I know this because I have preteens and I listen in on their lingo and try to keep up on the trends. I may even throw in a few awesomesauce words here and there so I can be totes fab. Cray cray, right?

Don't ask...I really have no idea what I just said there.

Ok, so maybe the lingo threw me a little but it was fun. And I absolutely adored the characters. Ms. Brown did a great job keeping a definite line with the typical spoiled white rich girl and the very formal European boy.

The plot itself is genius. Like I said, a very modern day fairy tale that would be very easy for our daughters to relate to, however I wouldn't let the younger ones read because there is drug use, alcohol and sex. So definitely a 16+ read BUT it's also a great read for us more mature women who like a flirty getaway.

The supporting characters are very well built. I was thoroughly engaged throughout the entire read. I didn't feel any lag or need to skim to get to the point. There is enough mystery and intrigue to keep you wanting more...so much so that I had to finish this in one sitting.

Now, for the best part of all. This was, by far, THE.BEST.ENDING.EVER.

And that is why I wanted to pull a Tom Cruise. No Joke. Even if this turns into a series (which I hope it does, I messaged the author and she didn't get back to me on it, boo!), there really isn't a cliff hanger. Some might think there is because the way it left off, but Ms. Brown could most definitely build more on this story line. If not, I am still over the moon giddy like a school girl on how it all turned out!

While I am at it, the epilogue (which is the ending I am referring to) is a few pages long. I kept looking at my % mark hoping that there was more and I was so happy every time I looked down and saw I still had 5% more to go or 2% more. This, people, is how you end a story!

I read this book in one day. I have been in a reading slump for awhile, and it gets like that when I read something that takes my breath away. At first this book was pissing me off. I didn't like the Main characters attitude. I wouldn't have been friends with a girl like this when I was in high school. She made me feel some type of way. I read on...giving her a chance to change my mind. I found that she more then made up for it flipping the script 360. Having me come to an understanding of the character and how she lived her life. Really what is an author for if not to make you feel what the characters are feeling. To help guide you into their life, and show you their point of view. The author completely captivated me with how she showed the development of their growth. This is the first time I have read something from this author, and I hope to read so much more.

The only thing that I would have liked to change was the reference to the movie quote: :"It puts the lotion on the skin." though now I understand why she would refer to Joe dirt now, because this is a younger generation. But if you are like me and know where the quote originated from then it was a little miss. Yet I get it.

The male lead was got and I love when i connect with a male character just as much as I connect with the narrator. Love--I just love it! A good story leaves you with wanting more yet giving you everything you asked for. As if they were real and breathing. I feel in love the the charm Aiden had and all his planning and trinkets.

All the character had personality and the story line was beautiful. I love had the author took a real problem and solved it with a realistic situation. Then adding in a super exiting twist. I love me a happy ending and that is exactly what the author delivered.

So bravo to the author for spinning an incredible story that I hope to revisit over again. With a full deserved five stars.

I thought I had problems but Fin that girl has...holy s*** just way to many, "I'm offering an incentive for you to let me go. I have a party to attend later and this is cutting into my time for getting ready." I looked down. "I can't very well go like this. It's a pool party." At the beginning of the book I really thought the girl was a damn snob, and I really hate snobs who look down on other people but I continued reading to give the book a chance and I was pretty pleased that Fin gets some common sense in her a**. Aidan and Fin's first encounter was a memorable one:
His eyes lowered to my chest. "Also a curious thing to say, especially since you are such in an interesting top. I knew you would be fascinating. You have that look about you."
I looked down. "What?" My hands scrambled and I grabbed the white shirt. "S***! Stop looking."
As I said, or maybe I didn't Fin is a complex girl and it's apparent that Aidan knows how to hit a few of her buttons, "look, if that's the part you're worried about, don't bother. I don't care that you gave me the wh*re ring. I never gave you a reason to think that of me. I never acted like a wh*re. I'm not worried about it." Aidan sure can make her blush though, "he smiled. "I was just in your bed. I figured the shower wasn't an issue, since I have seen every inch of you na-" And he's a smarta**, "jacka**? She calls me jacka** after making love to me?" He laughed and spun me around. "Oh, Finley. Darling, you've scraped your back open. It's bleeding." And he knows how to leave an impression, "no. Then I'll be plagued with the image of your sad face. No. This is perfect. I can still see where my stubble has brushed your skin on your nape and your cheeks still blushing from your orgas-" I liked this book.

I've been wanting to read this like forever I mean look at the title. White Girl Problems.. Doesn't that just make you curious as hell? I sure was and I'm so glad I did.

At first I thought Finley was a spoiled rich brat. She got drunk, stole, and was just a little witch. Well, maybe not that bad but she just erked me.maiden was all sweet and kind but a bit pushy and I wanted to just kick him some times. I mean really. But he was exactly what Finley needed. He was the one to put her in her place and stop acting like the little brat she was. They were actually really cute together and I enjoyed reading about all the romantic things Aiden did for her while he was away. The instant attraction they had for each other was so obvious to everyone but Finley. She was just so afraid of everything and falling for Aiden at 17 was never in her plans of being free.

I loved Hattie.. wow! She was just one of those older ladies that told it like it was and I loved her little comments. Now Finleys parents.. Well they were a hoot and I don't mean that in a good way. Her step mom was a total B and her dad was just oblivious. No wonder Finley acted out the way she did. She had a horrible life with not much love. It was sad really.

Tara Brown is just amazing though. I really felt so many different emotions reading this. That's proof enough for me to keep reading all of her books and not stop. When an author can truly make you hate a character, fall in love with one, and swoon along with them you know their good.

Reading this will make you want more of Fin and Aiden... :)

if I could give this more then 5 stars I would! I absolutely loved this book! even though Finley was immature I loved her flaws they were what made her her! she was a regular walking talking white girl! and ill be damned if Aiden wasn't my one true prince charming!! swoon....I'm definitely swooning here people! the story had depth and emotions and hardship that left you feeling like you lost it and gained it yourself. I know falling in love isn't really like this it's just in books and movies but I'll be gosh darned if I don't say I wish this happened in real life!! (and maybe to me ;) ) I loved how Tara has real facts about places and things I felt like I was traveling to those places with the characters and living it with them. it was so much more then just a story, it was a moment in time where I saw two people fall in love, felt their story and shared every moment with them. I do wish the story was longer maybe broken into two books so there could have been more and more details and longer drawn out ending. even though the ending was awesomsauce I didn't want it to end!!! I want more I want to know what's happened since the elevator I want to see how everyone is and how their lives turned out! ugh I'll just have to dream about it I guess... haha if you decide to read this story go in knowing you're going to be in white girl world for a time but stay with it it gets better this really does end with a tear!! happy readings!!

Now I love Tara Brown's writing, but this a whole new level of love for Tara. Only she could bring a story like this to life with such vibrant and entertaining characters. Seriously my new favorite from Tara Brown.

Finley is absolutely hysterical. Her vocabulary is like a whole new language that will have you in hysterics most of the time. Although she does have a sad up bringing. It's those memories that have tainted any posibility of love for her.

Then after a night of partying, she is sent away. Apparently winding up in the hospital is not something you dad is likely to forgive so quick, especially after just being caught shoplifting. That forced exile will forever change Finley's future.

She meets Aiden at the place where she is forced to work. Mind you Finley has never worked an honest day in her life. That's just not what rich white girls do. Aiden is Finley's polar opposite. Where she is fun loving and care free, he is bound to a life that forces him to be serious and forever moral acting.

Through deceptions, cultural differances, and family that is more disruptive than anything, Aiden and Finley try to let their relationship grow. Finely however needs to learn how to let love in. For if she doesn't that one person that feels like he was truly meant for her will be lost forever.

A definite must read by the fabulous Tara Brown.

This book was the opposite of what I was expecting in the best possible way. It is a YA Romantic Comedy, I was prepared for pretentious, snobby, superficial, self-entitled teenagers causing hell for no reason other than because they can. And the first 20% is exactly that. You meet Finley (I love this name) and her best friend Linna and they are causing trouble, being overly flirty, drinking and partying it up. However, a party goes wrong, so many things go wrong, and Finley finds herself being shipped off to Canada. In Canada, Finley gets and attitude check and meets Aiden (cue swooning).

Aiden is mysterious and sweet and kind and I love him! He sends Finley on day trips while he is away and writes her letters in the mail, its so adorable and sweet and romantic. I need to find myself and Aiden! As Finley falls for Aiden, so do I. I will not reveal the twists, turns and other struggles but this book was so much more than I anticipated. It was everything sweet and romantic and it was exactly like a fairytale. You will meet a ton of secondary characters that like myself will steal your heart and have you smiling. This book was too cute for words, highly recommend if you are looking for something silly and sweet!

Confused by the underlying themes

I try not to recap stories in my reviews because if you're reading the reviews than those before and after mine all recapped of for you already. What I will do is ask the questions that I would love to have answered and that in reading the book you as well can think about and draw your own conclusion.
Any one else notice there was an undercurrent with the ghost stories that is never addressed? In every gift he hives including the trips to sight see, there is a ghost or a haunting to accompany it. Why is this not explained? What does his recalling of the haunted past have to do with his messages to her? He doesn't seem obsessed with the occult or other oddities yet he continues to weave it into everything he presented to her. Is this prelude into another storyline further down the road? I need closure on this lol anyone have an explanation?

In any good YA novel the main character grows and matures as the story progresses. It's essential to the storyline and our investment in the character. I've never read a character that goes from such a bratty, spiked child (no way can I refer to her as anything but a child) to the young woman that Fin turns into by the end. It's totes amazing. :)
I was so disgusted by her, her vocabulary, focus, and actions at the beginning that I could barely stand to keep reading. Then she meets Aiden, who seems lovely, if not like an old man stuck in a young mans body. Which actually makes sense later in the story. I honestly could not see why he liked her. It seemed more like he should have run for the hills instead of befriend her.
There were a few parts were the interaction didn't make sense, but overall it was a romantic and funny tale.

This book is definitely for older teens or young adults due to the vulgar language and references to drugs and sex. I also really disliked that social media references were so prevalent. It's sad really to know that this is what the young generation is reading, because this is the reality of their lives. If you look past all of that it is a wonderful modern day, Cinderella-esque type story. Finley doesn't come from a poor background, but she does have a evil step-mother and two step-sisters. She has a father that is absent in his role and allows her to do whatever she pleases. After getting alcohol poisoning she is sent away to Canada where she meets Aiden. He turns out to be a prince, his mother doesn't approve of Finley because she's a "commoner" but they, of course, fall in love anyways.

Tara Brown, what have we done to deserve you?

This story, this plot, call it whatever you want, is just one of the best things I've ever read: fresh, inspiring, and full of romance with that taste of acid humor (believe me, you are gonna laugh).

This book was HILARIOUS! For the first time in a long time, I stayed up til the wee hours of the morning ( and paid for it dearly, but that's a different story) because I was so engrossed in this story! It was just absolutely hilarious, and Finley was something else! Such a great character. I loved her relationship with Aiden. I really, really want a sequel. (Fingers crossed!!)

A modern day Cinderella with a twist. Finley is an out of control teenager who has a stepmum out to ruin her. But when she finally does, the consequences aren't what she was expecting.
Finley isn't happy and wants to make her stepmother pay for how she treats her. But her stepmother wins and Finley gets sent away.......where her life completely changes.
Loved this book so much!

I did enjoy this story although it is not my favourite from this author. I found the main character irritating at times but it is fun, light and distracting. It's totally different from what usually comes out of Tara's brain lol It took my mind off of things and that's exactly what I needed.

If you love being surprised

I love this book so i gave it a 5 star rating. I hate that there was no epilogue. I would give this book to someone who is obsessed with or likes royal stories.

Funny, sweet, magical

Lovely Cinderella story with the funniest chapter headings and quotes I've ever seen. Hard to love feisty female MC with a bumbling, imperfect but perfect boy.

This book started out one way and ended another but I loved the ride! Super sweet and made my nervous a few times things were not going to end up the way I wanted but loved it!!!!
