The Promise of Redwood Cove
by Alesha Cary is the prequel to the Redwood Cove series. Set in contemporary times in northern California, it uses a spring festival to introduce the town as well as characters who will be featured in the following books.
The characters were introduced as they participate in the festival and the author did a great job of giving readers a snapshot of them. However, there wasn’t really a plot. There are hints of possibilities for the future, but the storyline didn’t really go anywhere. Even in a prequel, I want something more.
Overall, this is a character introduction and nothing more than that.
