Me gustó.

Bronwyn Scott brings her Rakes Who Make Husbands Jealous series to a mesmerizing close with London’s Most Wanted Rake, a tender, warm-hearted and passionate historical romance about two former flames who find themselves reunited after years apart.

Channing Deverill might be one of society’s most scandalous bachelors who had hardened his heart and turned his back on any form of romantic attachment, however, his laid-back exterior and sophisticated demeanor hide a broken heart that has never been healed. As a young man, he had fallen madly in love with the alluring Miss Alina Marliss. The two of them had embarked upon a passionate relationship that had consumed them both, however, Channing had been left devastated when Alina had rejected him to marry a French comte. Determined never to feel that kind of pain ever again, Channing had returned to London and set up The League of Discreet Gentlemen, whereby men such as himself could indulge in pleasures of the flesh with willing women without emotions or feelings getting in the way. The League is society’s best kept secret with many a bored society wife engaging their services in order to be accompanied to the opera by a handsome man such as Channing on her arm. With his enterprise growing in leaps and bounds, Channing knows that he should be happy. He has more money than he knows what to do with, has given young men with no prospects a chance to earn a living and better themselves and has always a beautiful woman willing to share his bed at night. Yet, Channing cannot shake off this feeling of dissatisfaction that has overwhelmed him of late. He is tired of the endless social whirl and of having sex with no strings. He is yearning for something – or someone- to breach the defenses which he has built around himself. However, what Channing wasn’t yearning for was for Alina to come storming back into his life and to bring with her feelings which he had thought dead and buried!

Alina had been absolutely devastated when she had to renounce Channing’s love and marry a man she despised with all her being. But duty and honor had compelled her to listen to her head rather than her heart and she had never stopped regretting losing the only man she would ever love. Alina’s marriage had left her feeling worthless, vulnerable and humiliated, but the widowed Comtesse de Charentes refuses to let her husband haunt her from the grave. Having let him victimize her for far too long, Alina realizes that the time has come for her to seek revenge on the people who sought to hurt her and her family. However, Alina knows that she cannot fulfill her objectives by herself – and as luck would have it, Channing Deverill has just come back into her life!

Many years might have passed since the last time they were together, but although the two of them had changed with the passing of time, their feelings and attraction for one another certainly haven’t! Thrust together by destiny, old passions soon rekindle, but will it be second time lucky for Channing and Alina? Or has too much water gone under the bridge for the two of them to ever have a future together?

London’s Most Wanted Rake is an irresistible historical romance packed with nail-biting intrigue, intense emotional conflict, heart-pounding drama and searing passion. I thoroughly enjoyed this touching and compelling tale of destructive secrets, wicked machinations and never forgotten love and found myself cheering on Channing and Alina and hoping that they get the happy ending which they so richly deserved.

An outstanding historical romance that I found myself unable to put down, London’s Most Rake is the stunning conclusion to Bronwyn Scott’s fabulous Rakes Who Make Husbands Jealous quartet!

The last in a series about a group of male prostitutes (who somehow only have relations with beautiful, unsatisfied rich noblewomen, as best I can tell), but the first I'd read. Really, my largest objection was that the hero and heroine are persecuted by basically the world's stupidest group of villains, and towards the end of the book the pacing went like: (a) villains come up with a stupid plan which will Fix Their Problem, (b) plan is implemented, (c) plan goes terribly wrong (from the villains' perspective), (d) villains come up with new stupid plan. The writing was strong and witty but the plot just didn't do it for me.

i didn't enjoy this book. i felt there was too much sex not enough talking and too much arguing. i feel they desire and lust after each other but im not too shore about the love thing. i don't know if they will work in the long run. i would like to read book 2 and 3 but they e-books so. we'll see.

This was a stock standard Mills & Boon regency romance. The characters were fairly likable and the plot was average and largely unmemorable.

There were far more explicit scenes in this book than most other Mills & Boon novels, so I was surprised and pleased that there was at least some spice. Otherwise, nothing to really write home about.

READING THIS THE SECOND TIME BECAUSE I'VE FORGOTTEN THE STORY. DOWNGRADED THIS FROM A 5 STARS TO 2.

#secondchanceromance

I'LL BE HONEST, I DON'T LIKE SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE BECAUSE THEY AREN'T ALWAYS FULFILING, AND THE ANGST CAN BE FRUSTRATING THAN ENTERTAINING. THIS ONE HOVERED IN BETWEEN. And I'm not a fan of picking up books where the heroines are widows...I wonder why I even picked this one up many years ago.

CHANNING established a gentleman escort service after his heart was broken by our heroine by an implied misunderstanding when they were having an affair of the heart in Paris. Unfortunately then she was married to a Comte and they weren't mean to be. Still, it never stopped his young heart from falling for Alina. After her husband's death, she returns to England and enlist his service (without knowing it was him) to ease her way back into society. That was when they finally consummated their romance, although, Channing decided to keep his heart intact and broke hers. The misunderstandings and situation that led to their constant separation wasn't new, in fact, it was cliche and typical. I guess 28 year old me doesn't agree with my younger self about how the story unfolded. I didn't quite get a sense of their relationship...like I felt like I DROPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF SOMETHING without fully appreciating their romance. Channing's character devolved into an elite manwhore because he got his heart broken, and Alina as well...lol they were both whores in their own way. So cringe, that wasn't my thing. If this was a contemporary, sure it'll be acceptable, but this was a HR, so I'm going to be a prude about it. Do I like Channing? Not really. He's not my kind of alpha male character....he just reminds me of a mopey young man who couldn't get over his first love.

ALINA...why the hell did she even marry the Comte in the first place? For the sake of her family. She's selfless and self-sacrificing to the point of...hopelessness. The author never expounded on HOW she got married with the Comte but we know she has suffered abuse under her husband's thumb and degradation. She learned that sex is power and it can manipulate people. I didn't like Alina much, as in, the person she became after her marriage. Though not entirely cold, she's still fake and I've had enough of manipulative people these days, even in stories. I'm not afraid to admit that I like my heroines more...chaste? Or at least NOT flaunting their lovers, and Alina was definitely no saint. The problem with the two are...they never clarified the misunderstanding but ASSUMED things about each other which led to their current situation.

OVERALL the driving plot was boring. The romance was a whirlwind with plenty of sex, but when I felt disconnected from the characters, and unsupportive, I even skimmed the sex LOL. It felt...gross. Even so, I'm not saying it was a bad book, just not entirely right for me.

I had a hard time really liking either of the main characters. Channing and Alina had first met seven years ago. She was recently married to a French comte who was very controlling, but she had a fair amount of freedom when he wasn't around. Channing had come to Paris on business for his father. Alina and Channing spent a lot of time together and fell in love. Channing wanted her to run away with him, but when her husband returned he threatened her family and Channing if she did so. So she pretended that Channing meant nothing to her and sent him away brokenhearted and furious.

Channing returned to England and started the League of Discreet Gentlemen, an escort service for society women. He considered it a way to protect young men like him from society women who would use them with no regard to their feelings. After seven years he's getting tired of the meaningless sex, but isn't sure what he wants to do.

Alina has returned to England after the death of her husband. She wants to get back into society so that she can later help her younger sister find a good husband. She is also looking for revenge on a man who swindled her father out of some land. She has hired a member of the League to help her, but it is Channing who turns up instead. The attraction between them is still hot, but they have a lot of issues between them that make a future problematic.

The physical connection between Channing and Alina is very strong, but the rest of the time they seem to be more intent on manipulating each other to get what they want. It wasn't until near the end that they actually started talking to each other and they learned things that changed their minds about what the other had done. I did like Channing's protectiveness toward Alina when he learned of her revenge plans, and how he was determined to help her. I also liked seeing him change from the man-whore into a a man who might actually be worth knowing.

I felt bad for Alina with what she had to put up with during her marriage, but really got irritated with her attempts to manipulate Channing. Now that there was nothing to keep them apart if they had just talked to each other honestly a lot of the heartache could have been prevented. She fell in love with Channing but felt she was no good for him because of her past.

I enjoyed seeing Nick and Jocelyn and their wives. It was fun to see them help Channing in the same way that he helped them. I liked seeing the ladies have fun together. I expect that there will be some great get togethers in their futures.

Alina Marliss returns from France a widow with a shadow of scandal attached. To become established in London society she seeks out the services of Channing Deveril, a most unusual man from her past.
It’s been over a year since Channing parted badly from Alina. And now he’s obligated to share her company at a house party. She insists upon a proper introduction to the object of her revenge: Roland Seymour.
Before, during, and after the day of the formal, polite introduction, Channing and Alina rekindle their former relationship to bonfire proportions. Will she join forces with Channing in marriage? Or will Alina insist on keeping revenge private and personal?
The rich and willing-to-swindle-to-get-rich populate this Victorian romantic suspense. Part of a series, it also reads well as a stand alone.

Channing is part of the the 'League.' He's notorious but still one of the peer. The comtesse is a widow.
While this story is not as good as Nick and Annorah's it still makes for a good historical romance. Quick simple read. Loved all the other books characters coming together at the end to rally around Channing. I was expecting a heavier storyline for him, since he's their leader. Overall its a nice HEA.

An excellent story about a Comptesse and a male escort who have a second chance at love. They first fell in love when they were young and circumstances didnt allow them to persue. But more intriguing is that they both now have agendas. They are both playing each other, both are adept at the game of seduction and disillusion. Who will come on top? An intriguing story to the very end. Well done.

Two people who broke each other's hearts meet again and sparks fly. Not a bad read but it just didn't quite work for me, I didn't really care about the relationship and the two characters didn't quite come alive for me.

It was very distracting to see that the main character's name is similar to actor: Channing Tatum.
With regards to Scott's Channing, I found him very one dimensional and not at all likeable.

There is always a third person that tries to get in the way of these kinds of thing!!!! I hate them. I also found it a little bland.
