This was a great reference guide for the major battles from the Prequel and Original eras. The battles themselves were broken down and analyzed, from many different angels. The players involved were profiled, and the settings were well described. There were also additional bits of information regarding people, weapons, and ships.

Two things bothered me about this book, and that was why I did not give it five stars. First, there was no chronology to it. You could be reading about Geonosis one minute, Endor the next and Hoth after that. It was not structured well in terms of timeline or orderliness.

Second, there was inaccurate information. In some cases it was alright because the book only knew about so much information. An example of this would be Maul. It was stated that he was defeated on Naboo, but we now know that is not true. In other cases though, the information was simply wrong. When it discussed Obi-Wan's battle with Grievous the book said Grievous escaped into space. This is not true, Obi-Wan destroyed him on Utapau. Which, in another part of the book this battle is accurately portrayed. It is confusing, not edited or written well. Another example would be when they discuss Obi-Wan and Vader's duel on the Death Star. Luke is mentioned and it is stated that when Obi-Wan first recruited his help, Luke knew he had latent Jedi powers. This, also, is not true. When Luke first met Obi-Wan, he had little to no knowledge of the Jedi or the Force. I was really disappointed by DK about this. They normally are not so inaccurate in their books.

I will say though, it was geared toward a late elementary, middle school audience, but the writing was complex enough that any fan would enjoy it. Many terms were defined, which is great for a young reader. Some of the descriptions were dark, which I think reflects the subject matter of battles and war well, but it something to keep in mind for younger readers.

Review combined with Star Wars Adventures: Sith Wars.

I am doing these as a common, dual review. Why? Because I have the same things to say about both. These are very strongly geared toward young children. Mainly children struggling to grasp the movies and their themes. While the age group was fine, if still offers no new content. I tried reading these to some youngsters (wanna -be padawans) and they Kept saying things like "I know that" and "I saw that in the movies." No one seemed to gain any insight from these and that was disappointing. For their sake.

However they all like the images and some lightsaber and weapons/ship details. While they had the basics, this was the one area the books offered extra info All pictures were clear and crisp. Mind you, most were images straight from the movies (how wrong can you go?). Still, the kids had more fun just looking at the pictures and sharing their own tales. The info these books provided did not keep their attention.

A great book for young fans of Star Wars - this book is filled with details about the many battles within Star Wars. Consistent with other DK titles, the book is filled with great illustrations that are accompanied by captions filled with further information. One great image provided is the timeline of battles that encompasses the various ruling powers' eras.
