Disappointing. I had high hopes for this premise (because how fun does a case of fake amnesia sound?) but the story was just...flat. It's written very well, and Caprice Crane's humor is sharp and intelligent, so it's worth a read solely for that, but plot and character wise, this novel left much to be desired.

I can get down with the fake amnesia, but the second thump on the head resulting in REAL amnesia? Can you say plot device? And the fact that Crane used this real amnesia as an excuse to basically drag out a hundred pages of useless conflict that had no real point other than getting all of Jordy's family members in one place so that she could scream at all of them after conveniently regaining her memories at the last second only makes it seem more contrived.

Her friends, Todd and Cat, are pretty much the best thing about the book. There's a plotline between Todd and Jordy involving Todd being in completely unrequited love with Jordan that has...no point whatsoever to the main plot of the book and only serves to distract and confuse the reader. The actual romantic man, Travis, is a breath of fresh air...in the 40 pages or so that he actually shows up. And Crane also throws in too many obstacles and misunderstandings through his part as well, so upon nearing the end of the book, you're reading just to get through the damn thing, without getting any real pleasure from the journey.

Jordy's family is a whole other story. They seem like cartoon villains rather than people - not unheard of in a chick-lit book, but because the overwhelming crappyness of Jordan's life is made so obvious in the beginning, it begins to look a lot like overkill. Not to mention the cliche of the evil stepsister - and the stepdad with no real personality save for a out-of-left-field moment at the end of the story.

In short, it's a weird book. Fun to read for the prose itself, I guess, but my advice to the author would be to go back over it again and CLEAN IT UP. Make it a concise, clear plot and cut out most of the shenanagains. We get that Jordan's boyfriend is an ass, we don't need him to trick her into almost-marrying him to prove that point. We get that Jordan and Travis are OMG MEANT TO BE, you don't need to add three hundred obstacles between them to make the ending satisfactory.

The whole thing lacked...poignancy, I guess, is the word I'm looking for. A good read, but nothing spectacular, and nothing close to what I was hoping for upon hearing the premise. (Fake amnesia! COME ON. How good is that?!)

The premise of this book is unique. I loved how Jordan saw her opportunity to make changes in her life and took it, even though her method wasn't the best.

I didn't like Jordan much until she started faking amnesia. I mean she was basically a doormat. I felt really bad for her and wanted her to do something about it. I mean her family life, love life, and work life were abysmal. All she had going for her were best friends, Cat and Todd.

The good things about this book are that all the characters are well written and clear cut. The good guys are (mostly) good and the bad guys are really bad. Plus, you think you know what's going to happen, when there is a big twist and you're surprised with the change in events and just want to know more. The only bad thing about this book is I couldn't put it down and wanted more to read when I was finished. I guess it's a good thing I've started looking for more of Caprice Crane's books! :)

If I were to rate this book as I read it, my ratings would have moved around quite a bit. I loved the idea of the main character pretending to lose her memory after an accident in order to reinvent her messed up life. I also loved the humorous dialogue. However, I think that it needed some serious editing so that it didn't get bogged down in the middle. Some reviewers had an issue with a twist that happened toward the end, but as improbable as it was, the surprise added interest for me at a time that I was getting a little bored. Overall, it was a fun chick lit book.

Gahh this book! I had heard some really good reviews about it which is why I read it but now I regret doing so!
When an author writes a book I very much believe that everything from the beginning to the end is important for progression of the story.
However I'm so confused with this one. The first chapter is called "My first marriage" and then the protagonist goes on about how she married her best friend Todd when she was seven years old. Already in the first paragraph itself she has revealed a few things about Todd. Now I usually don't think about these things from before, but since Crane started with this in this novel, I really figured it was foreshadowing an upocoming relationship issue between her best friend Todd and the protagonist herself. Wrong readers! SPOILER ALERT right here: She didn't even end up with Todd. Todd is just her bff who is in love with her but she thinks of him as brother! Why oh why then my dear author did you start the novel with this, if you hadn't planned on getting them together? I mean Todd and Jordan's relationship (just frndship) could have very easily been shown without this beginning and we, readers would still believe in their frndship! And its not like it was character development either! I mean in the first paragraph she describes Todd as commitmentphobic! which is also a lie cause after Todd reveals (SPOILER ALERT) that he just wasn't into the other girls because he was just in love with his best frnd. Also I didn;t feel anything for Travis' and Jordan's relationship. I really thought he was just being nice to her for sympathy (accident and all) and when he didn't kiss her after their really nice date, I was really believing that he was just gettin close to her so she wouldnt sue him. And then when in court its revealed that he's married (which again Crane, why? we could have done without this) I really thought this was the golden moment where Jordan realizes he's unattainable and a cheat! and that she really ought to go back to the person who she married when she was 7 yrs old for GOD the novel started that way. And i can;t even begin to say how awful it was when the real amnesia started. I was just like, Crane you didnt! I mean blehhh...it was stretched out so much. And CAT what was her use in the book really? Jordan considers her her bff for life yet doesn't want to tell her when shes fakin amnesia! CAT was truly useless...Wow i really am an avid reader of chick lit and romance and it doesnt take much to please me but this one was really bad and could have a lot shorter without its useless details. The 1 star i give this book is just for some funny stuff that Jordan thinks/says... But really just a waste of time!

This book kept me flipping the pages non stop, a very humorous story, Jordan is someone whom I can relate to well enough. I feel we have so many things in common.

Quotes I love in the book:

"Know the hazards of lending and borrowing with friends."

"I learned to accept my family for who they were and understand that, though they might be limited in certain areas, they all had good qualities that I could appreciate."

"I felt something, like my brain was itching."

"Something strange was going inside me, a mild combination of dizziness, nausea, headache and anxiety."

"The character doesn't even come out until people are tested and be put in extreme situations and most people spend their lives trying to avoid those kinds of situations."

"You couldn't expect your pod people family to get that though. They aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer."

"What's the crisis?"

"God is dead - Nietzsche 1883."

"Nietzsche is dead - God 1900."

"Cruising for Mr. Right?"

"I simply never found a specific club that I could bring myself to be passionate about. I was having enough trouble finding one person to be passionate about, let alone a whole club!"

"Victory ice cream!"

"In an effort to jolt myself out of my comfort zone and get a different part of my brain working."

"Fast fact - $30,000 in school loans etc.."

"I didn't want to accept failure. Even though sometimes the strength it takes to admit failure is probably worth as much as the determination not to quit. So there you have, I was stuck fighting for a relationship with a boyfriend who, in truth be told, I'd rather forget ever existed."

"Grow a conscience."

"I was making memory for myself and honored to help everyone else who was there document it for their own memories."

"Jordan B.C"

"Jordan A.D"

"Amazing how an eyelid extension could speak such volumes."

"Just for shits and giggles."

"You're nice they shit on you. You act like a complete bitch and they worship the ground you walk on."

"The smile that spread across my face felt like sunshine warming me from the inside out."

"Don't sit back and be a bystander of your own life."

"The ball is already in motion."

Okay so perhaps it isn't the most stimulating read for you intellects out there but its sure to emit a chuckle or perhaps even a lol here and there.

I read it on vacation and was really happy with how quickly it flowed and easy it was to put down and pick back up. Jordan is some one I think everyone can relate to, we all have some aspect of our lives that we wish we could forget or something from our past that we wish we could do-over. Sure some aspects may be unbelievable to some. Her mother and sister are extremely critical and sure you might think such high strung, selfish, debutante-ish women don't exist, but oh trust me they do. I can think of two friends' mothers off the top of my head. Perhaps the plot is a little far fetched, but correct me if I'm wrong this is fiction right? If it can't happen in a book or in a movie where else can it happen? You find yourself as confused as Jordan is at times, trying to figure out what you would do if you were her. It's a fun book, very light hearted and I believe if I read correctly Disney has bought the rights to it.

Crane has another book out, Stupid and Contagious and it too is a happy and fun read full of fiction.

Spoiler alert

After enjoying Crane's other novels, I am disappointed my this sopomore effort. The protagonist is a weak doormat who believes that she needs to fake amnesia to get a life do-over. Granted, she gets a clue at the end and learns that all she has to do is speak up and things are different. Unfortunately, it takes around 300 pages for this revelation to take place.

She chooses Travis in the end...Really? I mean, come on. Her rationale for turning down Todd is so high school that I'm surprised that Crane managed to squeeze out some coherent ideas in a third novel. Sigh.

2.5 stars. This book had some ok moments. But most were annoying. It reminded me of a romcom you start watching and only keep watching because the remote is on the other end of the couch and it’s too much bother to sit up to grab it.

I was drawn to this book by some sort of inexplicable force. I read chick lit from time to time. It tends to come in waves; sometimes I love them and sometimes I hate them. I'd never read anything by Caprice Crane before and about one sixth of the way into this one I promptly scurried over to Paper Back Swap and ordered 'Stupid and Contagious'. Basically, her voice is really enchanting. It's the perfect blend of pop culture and enough traditionalism to keep it from sounding too dated too soon. She's just really funny.

The basic plot is this; Jordan Landau is having a bad life. She feels like an outsider in her family, her co-workers use her as a doormat, and her boyfriend's a narcissistic cheater. So when she gets a bump on the head during a bike accident she decides to fake amnesia. Yes, that's right, she fakes amnesia. "Forgetting" everything gives her the confidence she needs to change her life for the better.

Honestly, I would have preferred it if the synopsis ended there. The fake amnesia was interesting to me because I've read amnesia chick lit books before. Notably Sophie Kinsella's 'Remember Me?' which was probably her best effort to date. But there's more to the plot of 'Forget About It'. Just when Jordan thinks it may be about time to "get her memory back" she gets in yet another accident and gets amnesia for real. Yes, that's right, she gets it for real. Luckily the characters were still enchanting enough to sustain the impossibility of that little nugget.

I had a really good time reading this book, which is pretty much the only thing you can ask for when it comes to chick lit. And this is pure 100% chick lit fluff. I'll say, I enjoyed the first half of this book much more than the second and the ultimate romance was relatively tepid, in my opinion, but mostly because I preferred another option for her. But the voice and characters were enough to sustain this book in general.

Life isn't going too well for Jordan Landau. Her family is insufferable and manipulative, her boyfriend is a womanizing dud, and her boss takes credit for all of her great ideas. Basically, Jordan is a doormat. So when she gets a bump on the noggin in a bicycle accident and wakes up in the hospital, she decides it's the perfect time to start her life over - by faking amnesia.

But Jordan's "Do Over" doesn't exactly go as she'd hoped. And just as her new life starts going sour, too, Karma bites back - she gets whacked in the head with a baseball and gets amnesia for real this time. Now she really can't remember her old life -- or her new life. And when she doesn't know who to trust, life in general becomes pretty difficult.

This book had such promise for me at the outset - it's absolutely hilarious. Jordan is sarcastic and endearing, and I was looking forward to the moments where she'd stand up to her family, boss, and stupid boyfriend. But the twist of real amnesia was a bit too much for me, and the book spiraled from really funny, intelligent chick lit into a little bit of a soap opera. However, in the end I give it 4 stars. Even though the plot takes an unrealistic turn, it is so well-written and funny that I had to keep reading just to see what would happen.

I wish I could give this book 4.5 stars. I more than "liked it," but wouldn't necessarily call it "amazing." It was a very clever tale of Jordan Landau, a 25-year-old ad agency employee (almost the lowest rung on the ladder), who hated her boyfriend, her mother, and her boss. So one day, while riding her bike down the crowded, rainy streets of NYC, she's hit by a car. In the hospital she has a flash of brilliance. Why not just fake amnesia? Now was her chance to reinvent herself. With the help of her best friend, Todd, that is just what Jordan does. So ensues the real adventures of Jordan Landau, amnesia patient. the story follows her attempts at balancing cultivating a "new" life and trying to maintain her lie. But then one day, a curveball gets thrown into the mix, and puts the brakes on her little game. Now Jordan has to figure her life out for real, and figure out what it is she truly wants. Dun dun dun!

Actually it was realy cute. It was well written, and quirky, both qualities I've come to expect from Caprice Crane. It was frought with pop-culture references and song lyrics. There were some laugh-out-loud moments and some gasp-out-loud moments. There was even a I-know-it's-2am-but-I-can't-sleep-because-I-need-to-know-what's-going-to-happen-next moment. I read it in about 2-3 days. It was a lot of fun. :)

Gosh, my thoughts about this book are kind of all over the place. To start with, I have two things to say: (1) If you have read and enjoyed another Caprice Crane book, pick this one up, you'll enjoy it, BUT (2) If you haven't read any Caprice Crane, don't start with this one. Stupid and Contagious and A Family Affair are both better.

Crane has the sort of writing style where you can just zip through the pages. It has lots of dialogue, good pacing, action and humor and not too much time self-reflecting.

Where she falls short here is character development. In my two favorite books of hers, she writes chapters using alternating viewpoints, and I think this really helps her out in developing characters that are realistic, flawed, but still relatable and enjoyable.

This book just has a lot of straight-up good guys and bad guys. Jordan's boyfriend is a straight-up bad guy, and her mom and sister are nothing but obnoxious and annoying. Travis and Cat are good guys. The only characters that really seem to be fleshed out with both good qualities and weaknesses are Jordan and Todd.

Also, let's face it, the scenario in this book is ridiculously implausible. It was an enjoyable read, and not Crane's worst work to date, but not her best, either.

I loved this author's first book and hated her third...this one started off with an amusing premise, but I hated how extreme the lead character's doormat personality was. When she faked amnesia and began fighting back in this passive aggressive manner, there were a few good moments and laughs, especially at her slimy ex boyfriend's expense. However, her second bout of real amnesia put the book in the realm of just not plausible and I had to keep myself from cringing. All of the characters were cliche'd. Chick lit seems to be directed at the type of girl who grew up reading Sweet valley High and sweet Dreams...the difference being that those books depicted girls who were anywhere from above average to really pretty, confident interesting people; whereas chick lit is always focused on the losers. Did our entire generation grow up to relate to the loser mentality? Or have the wannabes become the authors? Either way, the genre is sadly lacking. I think this is why young adult literature has become so popular with adults. If you want a light read, you can often find something a little more creative for the younger set.

I'm slowly coming to find Caprice Crane is one of my favorite Authors. She writes the same genre fiction as I do and a friend suggested her books. Since I was just getting back into reading again after a long stretch in limbo, when my friend told me that Crane's voice was so similar to mine she thought she WAS reading my book, I knew I had to pick her stuff up.

This is the second of her books, I'm reading them all in order, and I can see that she's managed to maintain her strong writer's voice while developing an entirely new set of characters. I was taken in right away with her flashback story and kept wondering how it would play out as the story went on. Perfectly tied in. The bigger twist I only saw coming right when it was in front of me but I didn't at ALL see how that was going to resolve itself. And I'm not ashamed to say I came close to actually shedding a little tear when it did all come full circle for Jordan becoming Jordan again. Fun concept with so many options. Crane has shown me again why I literally can't put her books down and why I, as the slowest reader on the planet, still manage to finish them in 2 days.

I just finished reading Forget About It By: Caprice Crane. I loved this book. This book kept my interest from the beginning to the end. I was sad when the book ended I didn't want it to end at all. This was the first book I've read by this author and it will not be the last. If this book is on your TBR or TBB list you should move it to #1 on the list. I definitely look forward to reading more books by this author. I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a good laugh out loud read that will have you up all night wanting to know what happens next. Ms. Crane now has a spot on my keeper shelf.

actually first time i interested in this book because on the covet stated "best chicklit"
first time i read, the pace is so slow. The timeline also not really clear.
The book tells about Jordan, girl that not quite assertive that she lead people around her to "bully" her. Then someday when she had a very bad day, while she ride her bicycle, she hit a car's door then she decide to pretend to have amnesia to repair messiness in her life.
theme taken is quite different. but i don't really like the writer tells about the whole story.

Having reached a certain age, I limit myself when it comes to books about angst ridden twenty somethings. Do they really have enough decades under their belts to be so unhappy with their lives? The desire for a do over has a fairly universal appeal. I'm more of the if-you don't-want-to-betreated-that-way-then-why-do-you-allow-it school, but I did enjoy seeing Jordan get back a little of her own. Although, neither her mother or scumbag Dirk got nearly what they deserved.

Made it to chapter 5, at least.

This book has been sitting on my shelf, just staring at me, for years. Finally, I picked it up and decided that I would indulge in a hilarious book about a relatable 25-year old with a rough life who fakes amnesia just to get a fresh start! By chapter two, though, I was disappointed: it wasn't relatable at all. Though well written and clearly thought out, Jordan seems like the most doormatted, pick-me, attitude filled woman I've ever had the displeasure of reading about. With the demeanor she carries, it's no wonder the people in her life treat her the way they do! I decided to read a complete summary before choosing whether or not to finish the book, to see if Jordan ends up becoming a better person and making better choices for her life. Apparently, she kind of does, but only after faking the amnesia. Not really my style.

Not an AWFUL book, but certainly not for me. I can't read stories about characters who annoy me consisently. You just... you don't have to fake amnesia to stand up for yourself or make lifestyle changes. You can just do those things anyway, and there are plenty of better books about doing JUST that.

Totally predictable, full of cliches taken out of light romance movies style Hugh Grant (who is even mentioned in the book). At the beginning it made me think about Bridget Jones, but with Bridget I laughed my ass off, whereas I find Jordan terribly boring, self-centered and full of s... So why 2 stars? Because it was so easy to read. The first book in a long time I finish in a matter of days. Maybe because I just hurried along, since I couldn't take its platitudes anymore, but still...

What an interesting premise for a book! Fake amnesia and get a redo on your life. Loved the twist as well. The only thing I didn't like was the mom...WTF! Just read another book about a mother who was trying to foist a d!ckhead guy on her daughter because of money...UGH! There were a couple of plot holes, but I enjoyed the read.

This cute chick lit was fun, if a tad repetitive. The "wrap-up" at the end was unnecessary, and felt awkward. Any lessons to be learned would have been picked up by the reader along the way, no need to dumb it down.

Loved this when I was younger, am obsessed with amnesia story lines. Wanted to work at an ad agency in nyc when I grew up, who didn’t? Pretty cute story overall, really wanted Jordan to stick it to everyone way earlier. Dell a bit more flat for me now rereading it years later
