New friends, new enemies . . . can a magical journal change Autumn's crazy life?

With her fiery red hair, new-girl outsider status, and tendency to be a total klutz, Autumn Falls definitely isn’t flying below the radar at Aventura High. Luckily, she makes some genuine friends who take her under their wing. But she also manages to get on the wrong side of the school’s queen bee, and then finds out the guy she’s started to like, funny and sweet Sean, hangs with the mean crowd. Now her rep and her potential love life are at stake.

When Autumn vents her feelings in a journal that belonged to her late father, suddenly her wildest wishes start coming true. Is it coincidence? Or can writing in the journal solve all her problems? And if the journal doesn’t work that way,  is there a bigger purpose for it—and for her?

Filled with personal elements from Bella’s own life, AUTUMN FALLS is the first book in Bella Thorne’s new series! It has everything readers will love and relate to: a real girl trying to find her own inner strength and be the best she can be, with a hint of magic and mystery, and a steady stream of OMG-I-can’t-believe-that-just-happened fun.

I want to see if she can write or not, but honestly, there are writers her age that would die for a chance like this, that have already written novels or are near-completed them. She only just started. Still, I can't judge. But I don't like it how no one else seems to notice its not just Bella Thorne writing this. I curious to know if she's actually going to write it, or if this Elise Allen person will.

Gonna mark it.

I want to put out the disclaimer that I am am not bashing Bella at all when it comes to my thoughts and opinions about her first novel. In fact, I applaud her since she is, or had, dyslexia and I am impressed and a little proud that she wrote and sold a novel. So, please take into account that, for everyone and anyone who likes Bella Throne, that I am not personally bashing her and this review is just my thoughts on her first novel.

Oh boy, do I have a lot to say about this book.

So, Bella Throne, a Disney Channel star, has published a novel. I will be honest, when I first heard about this I was interested. With the exception of Hilary Duff, no other Disney Channel star has published a book, and I was interested in it. I didn't have any expectations about this going into it, except for a subconscious hope it would not be a cliche/something that could easily become a Disney Channel TV show or an original movie.

Unfortunately, it was. I swear it felt so reminiscent of one (especially from like the last 4-5 years) that I won't be surprised if it will be made in a movie in the future. I will give you two reasons that made me feel it could easily be made into a Disney Channel movie.

Reason #1: The Plot/Plot Development: I mean, the synopsis says it all. Autumn, our main character, moving into a new town and is the new girl in a contemporary high school setting. With it, throw in a mix of blandish characters to be her friends, the boy everyone loves, and the popular clique, you have a recipe that can take this story places.

Reason #2: Characters: Oh my god. This was my least favorite aspect of the whole novel. In short terms, I felt like that all of the teenagers, sophomores in high school, acted like 5th graders. Here's the long version:

The clique group (the popular kids). It was, in my opinion, the biggest cliche I have ever read in my life. You have Reenzie, the leader and who tried to ruin Autumn's life completely by doing things that most people can't even comprehend if they have a conscience, but then acts sugar sweet and rainbows to get something she wants. Although, although I did like that Sean (our love interest) was part of the group but was super nice and caring.

Then we have Autumn's own group. We have Jack (who I personally didn't really care about), Amelita (I think that's her name) who was my least favorite out of them because she was super stubborn and believed that revenge is right and only really focused on revenge and it was like:

To anyone and everyone she didn't like.

And then we have J.J., who was my favorite character in the story and was very interesting. He was snarky, and he (especially when he and Autumn first meet) likes talking anagrams. And also there was an undertone of a potential love triangle that could grow in the future books in this series.

Lastly, Autumn herself. Oh dear god, Autumn reminded me of a contemporary and more stubborn version of America Singer from the Selection series. I swear, a lot of times in the book (especially in the prologue)I felt like was acting like a brat over her having to move. Not to mention that when she starts venting about her feels in the journal, she said wished for things for selfish purposes and didn't (most of the time) think about the consequences.

And she made so many decisions (and a big one during the climax) that made me want to throw my ereader to the ground at how stupid of a decision it was. Congratulations Autumn Falls, you are now number #1 on my list of most frustrating protagonists ever. Yes, she even beat America Singer.

I know what you are probably thinking: Is there anything that you really liked about this book? Well there is one thing. The writing. I mean, it isn't the best I've ever read but it isn't the worst I've read. There were sentences that I felt like could have been structured differently (and as a writer myself, I noticed that there were a lot of adverbs and I felt like this book shouldn't have had as many), but there were some that I really liked.

And another thing was that (except for the times I was most annoyed at Autumn) I liked/wanted to comment on. I didn't want to put this damn book down. However, unlike the Selection series, I will not be continuing this series at the moment I am writing it.

There is one more thing that I want to talk about before I end this review: I felt like this should have been made for a more middle-grade audience. My main reason is that I think most of Bella's fans are tween girls between the ages of 8-12, and most of those fans will want to read her book. While I do think for the most part it can be intended for that age range, there is some content (especially in one part of the book) that is for a more young-adult reader.

So, I was not a huge fan of Autumn Falls. Not just because of the plot, how I felt like this could easily become a Disney movie, and the characters, I was just not invested enough to want to read the rest of the series. The writing could be improved a little bit, but I overall thought it was good. However, it is not enough for me to raise the rating. My final rating for this book is a 1/5 stars.

I loved this book! I picked up Autumn Falls to see if Bella Thorne can write and I believe she can. Although I found a few errors they didn't bug me. I loved the story and can't wait for the next book. I kind of need it. NOW! The story was relatable for me being both a red head and having Dyslexia like Bella and the character Autumn (since it's sort of based on her life). The over all book was very raw and real and really captures the highschool scene. I feel that it also shines a light on bullying and what it does and holds a great message. I absolutely loved this book and can't wait for more! Congrats Bella on your fantastic Novel!

OVERALL IMPRESSION: I'd seen Bella in her Disney show, as well as in Blended and thought she seemed like a great, well-rounded person, so I was curious when I heard that she had a book coming out. I feel like the story that she wrote was fine, but could have been better. The idea behind the book is a good one, but I think Bella needs to work on her writing skills some more--although, I believe if she keeps at it, she can become a great writer. When I was reading the book, I could definitely tell that it was written by someone of a younger age by the way the words sounded as I was reading them in my mind.

I enjoyed the resolution of the book. It was predictable, but still cute and fun to read. I hope Bella continues to work on writing as I would love to see what she can accomplish.

CHARACTERS: I really liked the character of J.J. He has a great personality, and I wish I could have seen more of him throughout the book. The main character, Autumn, was great as well. I felt like I really understood her and what she was feeling.

COVER: I have mixed feelings on the cover. I don't usually like covers with faces on them, but this one is only half a face. I really like how they painted the model's nails with the sparkly polish and the heart detail on her left hand.

**I received an ARC of this book from Amazon Vine for my honest review.

Okay.

So I didn't know who Bella Thorne was going into this, or if I did know, I had already forgotten. Thus, seeing a lot of the reviews already makes me wonder a bit about the baggage that might come with this book. For me and my inner teenage girl, I thought this story was pretty great.

The book is about Autumn Falls. A teen girl who moves to a new school after her father dies in a car wreck, she quickly makes some friends but also some enemies from one of the mean girls in her class. The wrinkle is a journal that Autumn's grandmother gives her - the journal appears to grant the writer the fulfillment of wishes written into its pages, and Autumn quickly learns about the power in play.

There's plenty to make this rise above the standard starlet teen YA trends. Autumn has a learning disability and it isn't played for laughs or even as a significant highlight, but rather a fact of life. The bullying is realistic in a way similar books and similar bullying descriptions have not been as of late. The story is short, but the result is a tight contemporary tale with fantasy aspects that are ultimately worth your time.

I'm excited to see what comes next. This was a pretty great read on a whole, and I'm definitely looking forward to where this could go in the future. Surprisingly well done.

I didn't get all the closure I wished for, hence why I gave it 4 stars. I'm glad that there's going to be another book. It was a nice quick read. An interesting plot and good characters. I very much enjoyed Autumn Falls. :-)

I'm normally really skeptical reading books written by celebrities. So when I was sent a copy of this one to review, I wasn't sure if I was actually doing to read it or not. I loved the cover, though, and new it would be a quick read, so I decided to pick it up and give it a try.

When Autumn's parents decide to move them to Florida in order to take care of their grandmother, Autumn is devastated. But when her father dies, Autumn realizes how trivial those arguments were and would do anything to have him back. When she moves to Florida with her mom and brother, Autumn instantly finds some great friends, but in doing so becomes enemies with one of the most popular girls in school. Autumn vents her frustrations in the journal her grandma gave her, a gift from her father, and finds strange things happening as the wishes she confides in her journal start to come true. Autumn tries to use the journal for her own problems, but soon realizes there may be a greater purpose for the journal than she had previously thought…

When I began this book, I wasn't expecting a lot. I didn't even know if this was middle grade or young adult (after reading it, though, I'd classify it as a very young, young adult book) and was afraid the characters would be juvenile and cliche. I'm happy to report, though, that I actually ended up enjoying this book. I flew through it and was happy that Autumn wasn't annoying at all. Sure, I wasn't a big fan of the exaggerated aspects of her life that seemed a bit forced, like the huge lump on her head from her brother or how flat-out rude some people were to her in a way normal people wouldn't be in real life to someone they don't even know, but I actually liked her character and how realistically flawed she was. Autumn doesn't always know what to say and she's a bit of a klutz. Oh, and I was so happy that the ending wasn't cliche and all tied up in a neat bow. I don't want to give anything away, but Autumn's romantic life is definitely a mess and there's no easy fix to the troubles she causes when she gets the journal.

I wasn't sure how the whole fantasy element would fit in with the "magical" journal, but I think it was really well done and not over-dramatic at all. Autumn wasn't even sure if the journal was magic, but it lead to a lot of self-reflection on how Autumn was really living her life and what kind of person she wanted to be. Autumn was being bullied by some very petty, cruel girls at school, but she had to try and be the better person, even when the girls would do some really hurtful things.

With Autumn Falls, you get a young adult novel that is a quick, yet enticing read. There's magic, a splash of romance, and a whole lot of life lessons on friendship and family. If you're looking for a fun read, I'd say you should give Autumn Falls a chance!

A book by Bella Thorne, the best friend of Zendaya from Disneys Shake it Up...
I'm curious.

Update 1:

I was lucky enough to get an ARC from Random House Distributing Company (Penguin) and I have to say, I was quite excited with finding out that Bella Thorne is now an author, not only coming out with a stand alone novel, but with a series! :D so excited!!!

Update 2:

This book was pretty interesting. This was more of a high school drama type, with a girl getting used to the new environment since she had to move from her hometown after a serious accident with her father.

This book is generally filled with personal elements from Bella’s own life. It has a real girl that all teenage girls (generally) will love, trying to find her own inner strength and be the best she can be. But there's a twist. It has magic and mystery too!!!

Autumn Falls a.k.a Bella Thorne (in real life) with her fiery red hair, new-girl outsider status, and tendency to be a total klutz she is definitely not flying below the radar at Aventura High. Luckily, she makes some genuine friends who take her under their wing (you'll love them too!!!) But she also manages to get on the wrong side of the school’s queen bee, and then finds out the guy she’s started to like, funny and sweet Sean, hangs with the mean crowd. Now her rep and her potential love life are at stake.

To be honest I wasn't going for Sean at all, but for J.J. So let's hope when the series coktinues she opens her eyes a bit.

Here is when the magic and mystery meets. Autumn starts to vent her feelings in a journal that belonged to her late father, suddenly her wildest wishes start coming true. Throughout the story she is trying to figure out if the journal is really magical, or if every single thing she writes in her journal is just a mere coincidence.

In this book we don't really find out about that. Autumn focuses on fixing all of the mistakes she made with the journal first, and then figures out (probably in the sequel) what the journal really is...

There was a bunch of plot twists, like is it really about Autumn and finding a purpose in life? Her love life? Drama life in high school? Winning the contest for her friend? Her father dying? Or is it really just all about Autumn, and then all of those other things just extras.

Then we have the cliffhanger. Yes, she fixed her issues with the enemy, Sean, and her inner demons, but what happened to her closest friends???

That's what did it for me. I'll still read the next book, because I am dead curious with what Bella Thorne has in store for us next!

I'm torn between giving this one star and five stars because it was just so... something. Give me a second to come up with an adjective.

This book is the most unrealistic thing I have ever read in my life. A good example: In the prologue, we learn that Autumn's father died in a car crash. Six weeks after the accident, Autumn is caught up in high school drama and mentions her father again maybe three times. Mind you, this is six weeks after her father dies.

Between the fact that it is so clearly ghostwritten and the fake fake FAKE teenager voice, along with the utter ridiculousness of each and every character... I was laughing constantly. A few pages in I began a list of every stupid thing/poorly written sentence I came across, but I had to give up after another ten pages of the book when my list stretched onto a second page and it became apparent that if I were to continue, I would never finish. Here are some of my favorites from that list:

Page 26: “Kind blue eyes creamy dark skin, sculpted arms.” I don't think there's enough cliche in this sentence.
Page 67: She’s thinking about kissing Sean when she’s VERY BRIEFLY INTERACTED WITH HIM TWICE. HELP. THE INSTALOVE. IT BURNS MY EYYYYEEESSSS
Page 69: “You and JJ… I see you together all the time…” Yeah, if 'all the time' means you saw them together at lunch yesterday. Once. I guess we have different definitions of the phrase 'all the time'.
Page 89: Autumn is called a "Freak." THE CLICHES I CANNOT
Page 91: Aaand we officially have a Duckie. God, I’m reading a terribly ghostwritten poor excuse for a Pretty in Pink knockoff. Our lead is even a redhead.

All in all, I highly recommend if you've got a couple of hours to waste. This is truly the Sharknado of YA - so bad, it's good.

It was about a girl named Autumn falls who can't wait to see her dad because they would be moving closer to there grandma, but he got in a car crash and died. They moved anyway and Autumn had to make new friend but she is having problems at school with the mean girl. Her grandma gives her the journal that her dad wanted her to have. She writes in it always saying dear dad. Then she realized that what she said came true if she said i wish. Will this help her or make it worse?
The book was amazing and its fun to see what new writers write. I give it 5 stars and i would recomend this to a lot of my friends.

I'm sorry but I was bored out of my mind during the entire time I read this book. I admit it was my fault. I shouldn't have read this book just because I liked the cover. But could you really blame me?

Anyway this book is about a girl named Autumn Falls (I didn't really find her name hilarious). She's supposed to be a lovable and klutzy main character whose dad dies and gets her world turned upside down. The beginning went well but then the annoying dialogue and predictable events just ruined everything. And the writing was still too amateur for me. I didn't expect it to be perfect but I thought it would unique and... un-Disney. So I am hugely disappointed and I do not wish to pursue this series (Hell yeah this is a series).

After expecting to be entertained and being completely disappointed, I feel like...

After her father dies unexpectedly while visiting her grandmother in Florida, his family moves south. Autumn Falls' grandmother gives her a journal her father left for her specifically, and as she makes entries in it, she realizes that the journal has the power to grant her wishes. She quickly finds some loyal friends, and sparks fly between her and Sean, the school quarterback. But someone close to Sean wants to sabotage their growing relationship, and Autumn becomes the butt of several cruel jokes and character assassination. As Jenna, her friend back home in Baltimore reminds her, wishes can be double-edged swords. Autumn has to examine her own behavior and see how far off track she has traveled from the person she wants to be. In many respects the author has captured high school society perfectly while also adding some mystical elements to it. I'm not sure what's left for Autumn to explore, but there will be more titles forthcoming in this series. Like me, most teen readers will like Autumn's wit and her honesty as well as how she eventually faces up to her mistakes.

To be honest I am not familiar with the name Bella Thorne. It has been a very long time since I have watched anything on the Disney Channel. So I was not influenced in any way by the name to read this book. In fact, if I was familiar with who Bella was prior to reading this book I still would have checked it out because it sounded good. Case in point, this book sounded good but it really turned out to be fluff. Fluff as in cotton candy. It is good for the moment but afterwards you are left with an empty feeling and not fully satisfied. Ok, maybe satisfied but you get the picture.

I got about a third of the way into the book and put it down. It was neither funny or interesting. I was looking forward to laughs but none were to be found. This is like any other typical book currently out there. Nothing special about it. Yet I tried to give this book a chance with the idea od the magical diary. When Autumn would write in her diary and the things started coming true, it was boring. Like blink and you will miss it.

I hated this book. The plot line lacked originality, the characters were cliche, and the story was just so annoying. I was even more annoyed by the fact that this was written by Bella Thorne. As I read I tried not to take it into account but it really started to bug me because Ms. Thorne obviously didn't put enough effort into this. Because I myself am a young writer and I read this book, it was really rather shallow and not well written. It irks me because this isn't fair to other writers around the world myself included. I mean if she really wanted to write she should work on making the story better, it's obviously not her highest priority at the moment.

OMG so my best friend recommended this book to me and I put off reading it forever and so I finally decided to read it and I have to admit I LOVE IT way to much so I am so exited to read the next book!!! I was a little left on edge for the end of this book, I am really confused by the way the journal can grant wishes but I still think it's really cool but I think it's really just her dad helping her. But love this book 5 stars

MY OPINION: ***

Before I start, I wanna make a couple of announcements. I'm going to try to keep it as short as possible :D

Firstly, I am thinking about doing the 52-book reading challenge for 2018. Yes, I do know it's late and I should have started a while ago but seeing as it's still January, I'm sure I can catch up. Besides, I'm also planning to read other books on the side since I still want to reach 125 but I thought it would be fun to have some sort of guide as to what to read next

Second, I'm thinking about starting a rant blog. iRant?? I already mentioned this on iRandom, which is something you should also check out... I was thinking about having a place just to share feelings and rant about annoying things or places or habits to you guys and then in the comments, you can rant along with me... I don't know. It's not fully planned out yet.

Third, I have a bookISH Pinterest, and the reason why it's bookISH is because I have boards for books and fandoms and also boards on cats and funny things and actors and stuff... Anyways, go follow me there and I'll be sure to follow you back!!

Last, I was thinking about starting a page on iRead where you can get some recommendations for books. I could start a whole separate website or keep it connected to iRead, which I think would be a lot easier. I can update it whenever I need to and it'll be divided by genre, etc. Comment what you think.

ANYWAYS, let's get ON with the book review!

Autumn Falls. A friend of mine read it a couple of years ago and told me it was "okay" and that I should try it out. It's been on my reading list for a LONG time but then I saw it again popping up on some website and I was like "Why not?" I was shocked to realize that it was by actress Bella Thorne (I'm smart) because about 2 years ago, I had no idea who she was since I was so out of sync with pop culture...

I tried it out and it was okay. There were things about it that considerably lowered my grade. First, let's talk about its predictability. If you fool around with wishes, something is bound to go wrong. Also, guy gets girl GREAT. It was a little cliche and the characters seemed a little... shallow. I don't know...

And then there was the writing. It was detailed and almost-sophisticated but I thought it was weak and that it was kind of trying too hard. I don't think Bella Thorne's strongest suit is writing, though I do LOVE her acting.

I can't say I was pleased with this book. I did like it better than some but I thought it was kind of a knockoff... Anyways, I just want to say that I love Bella Thorne and I actually appreciate her courage and bravery to publish a piece of written work despite the fact that she struggles with dyslexia. It's very brave of her.

I would recommend this book to people who are looking for a lighter read.

Main Character: Autumn

Sidekick(s): Amalita, JJ, Jack, Jenna, etc

Villain(s): Reenzie, etc

This book reads really young. Sure, she's a young teenager, but this read almost like a middle grade at some points.

I hated the love interest and how Autumn let his inability to see situations for what they were become her problem, or make these issues out to be her fault. I also hated how despite

I enjoyed the first half, particularly when I found out that she was half Cuban. Also, some of the topics explored were pretty interesting and worth the read...but then it all kind of got really childish and fell apart.

I started reading the sequel and it literally plopped me down into what felt like the middle of the book. I don't understand how this series works, exactly, so I'm just calling it quits while I can. I'm just sad it sat on my shelf for so long.

Happy reading!

I thought this was incredibly adorable and a super fast read.

This book would be great for fans of Dirt Diaries, The Fourteenth Goldfish or Wendy Mass' books as it has that tone throughout.

Autumn is dealing with a lot of trauma at the beginning of the book: the death of her father, moving to another state, high school in a new community and making new friends.

In a succinct yet feeling way, Thorne uses magical realism to help Autumn connect with her departed father and deal with some major problems surrounding a bullying scandal at her school that's getting out of hand.

There's amazing lessons about friendship in this text and I think it's a perfect fit for readers ages 11-15.

I really enjoyed it.

I first picked up this book because I was intrigued, what kind of book would Bella Thorne write? This book is just okay, but I see a lot of potential for this series to be something more. It's very cliche with a bit of cardboard characters, but very cute and sweet. It kind of makes me sad that Bella Thorne hasn't continued her writing career, she has so much potential that can be seen throughout this book.
