I was born June 9, 1973, in Waukegan, Illinois. I grew up in Zion, a suburb north of Chicago.
I originally self-published Thunderland, my first novel, in 1999. After managing to sell a few thousand copies on my own, Kensington Publishing Corp. in New York offered me a two-book contract, and published a new, revised edition of Thunderland in December 2002.
Since then, I’ve published up to three books a year, ranging from thriller novels such as The Other Brother, to short story collections such as Twisted Tales, and anthologies such as Dark Dreams.
My newest suspense thriller, Covenant, was published in November 2010.

This was my second book by Brandon Massey and I really enjoyed the atmospheric ghost story as it wrapped its tendrils around me!
Len and Olivia Bowden move into what they thought would be their dream home along with their daughter, Kennedy. With packed boxes laying around the house and the Bowden's trying to settle in to their new home, a stranger knocks on their door that changes their lives forever.
An elderly gentleman dressed in vintage clothes including a top hat tells them that the home belongs to him and that they had bought his home fraudulently. He tells them that they must leave the house within three days or suffer the consequences.
At first they think that he is just a senile old man and they decide to ignore his ultimatum, but then things start happening in the house. Creaks, cold drafts of air, footsteps, doors opening and closing. The basement also holds a mysterious locked trapped door that make the Bowden's wonder what is really below their house.
What they thought was their dream house ends up being a slow descent into hell as they have to endure not only the ghostly things happening within the house, but they also have to endure voodoo that the stranger has invoked upon them.
This was a very creepy book and the more I became involved reading it, the more I couldn't put it down. Parts of the book were a little scary and it probably didn't help me much by reading it in the dark in the middle of the night!
Giving it four stars for keeping me "spooked".

The Bowdens have just moved into the beautiful Victorian they acquired through a bank foreclosure. When they refuse to give into his demands, the family is suddenly tormented by strange happenings in and outside of the house. The mysterious previous owner will stop at nothing to reclaim what’s his.
I enjoyed this atmospheric supernatural thriller. The incorporation of vodou elevated it from a typical haunted house story and you could tell the author really did his research on the subject. The writing is so descriptive there were times when I felt like I was right there suffering with the characters. I’ll admit I was getting a little spooked reading this at night or home alone. 🫣🤣
Part 3 felt like watching a movie! Brandon Massey is my go to author for horror noir.

I've been waiting a few days to write a review because I was still trying to figure out how I felt about this book after finishing it. I really liked the majority of this book but feel a little uncertain on my feelings about how everything came together. While I liked the ending well enough, it didn't feel like a very strong ending IMO. I did read this in one sitting though, so it definitely had me hooked the whole way through! I might end up coming back to this review as I let it all marinate a little longer... we'll see.

I've never had a book that makes me want to read it and not read it at the same time. I'm glad I read the book because it dealt with religious beliefs no one dates to talk about.

I lied to my book club… I said I gave this book a three but we’re bumping it to a two..
I really wanted to enjoy it as this is my second horror book ever and this one was written by a black author. This did not do it for me. It came across as and most of the story did not seem believable. Our main characters were not great and the antagonist reminded me so much of Dr. Facilier from The Princess and the Frog that I could not get it out of my head.
I am open to potentially reading more horror but it would not be a book by Mr. Massey.

A really excellent thriller/horror novel that dwells on the good stuff and doesn’t waste any time. Tension consistently builds, payoff moments do not disappoint, and characters act in believable, intelligent ways.
I do not have a background with Vodou, but my impression is that the author did his research and presented this real tradition in a way that doesn’t appropriate it or insult it. I hope that that impression is accurate. It’s a great relief from the endless sea of books out there that boil down to “paganism is scary evil!!”

The Bowden's just moved into their dream house. It was a classic Victorian in a great neighborhood. Len and Olivia bought this house on a foreclosure. There was a knock at their door and when Len opened the door there was this elderly looking man who wore a stovepipe hat. The man told Len, that he was swindled out of the house and that it still belong to him. The man said that you have three days to move out. Strange things begin to happen. Len's see his old girlfriend from 14 years ago. The problem is that she committed suicide after their breakup. Olivia see her brother who died from a drug overdose. She blames herself for his death. Doors open and close by them self. Their daughter Kennedy claims to see monsters in her room. This house holds a lot of deep and dark secrets froom the past.

This is an excellent, gripping read! A chilling supernatural thriller with a voodoo theme set in old Atlanta with characters which come alive on the page, a swift and engaging plot and many twists and creepy turns. Voodoo and ghosts, it doesn't get better than this! Do not pass go: get this book but I wouldn't read home alone during a thunderstorm :). Highly recommend!

The book started off interesting, however that same beggining was the fact that I lost my interest later on.
Why? Because everything that comes later was revealed than, and the freight effect the visions of dead people were suppose have was gone, because it was predictive.
The relationship between the couple seemed unnatural, like the author had difficulties writing it. The solution the the problem at hand was easy SPOILER get out of the house. What's worst in the last chapter the author says the family spent time in their previously owned house, while searching for new home. Then why didn't they evicted the house when the life of their child was at stake. I mean the motives for staying were lame, being a father I know losing money and getting stuck with loans is better than maybe losing my child and my life
Also at the end the author forgets which day he's in, saying a day passed, but it didn't... If he had a proper editor this would've been much more enjoyable read.
He's writing style is ok though, probably that's why I'm giving it 3 🌟 . The fact that I stuck to the end days so.

It started off good, but somewhere in the middle it fell off the rails and got silly. I wasn't aware this was a sci-fi book. I thought it was just a good old fashioned thriller. The book asks you to suspend belief beyond what is reasonable. The female main character just happens to be Haitian, like the previous owner of the house they'd just bought. She also happens to have an aunt who is a vodou master and comes to save the day. The ending is just Deus Ex Machina and magic and stupid. I cannot recommend this. I'm glad it was free!

Horror Refined
A young couple with a small child buy a beautiful Victorian mansion. The house of their dreams quickly becomes a thing of nightmares when the former owner returns. Bilked out of the house he is an experienced voodoo practitioner who will stop at nothing to get back his home and vengeance on those who took it from him.
This is a terrific read. Unlike most horror there is a story line and well nuanced characters. It is scary and engaging. It is refined horror that does not rely on overdone gore. Pace is fast and the ending is satisfying. Well done.

In The Dark was a terrifying and suspenseful book. Each page left me anticipating the next. I can usually guess the surprise before it occurs however this time I was shocked as the suspense grew and the surprise jumped out of the shadows. I need to find more of Brandon Massey.

In the Dark is a well written and creative read that is sure to have readers looking over their shoulders.
When a hundred and ten year old Queen Anne Victorian in Candler Park, in one of Atlanta’s prized historic district came on the real estate market after the owner lost the property in foreclosure, Len and Olivia Bowden was there ready to purchase their dream home. An unexpected knock on the door by the previous homeowner, Dr. Laveaux, cuts the happiness of unpacking in their new home short. After being threatened to leave their dream home after three days, the Bowdens start to experience strange and unbelievable things.
The story behind Dr. Laveaux of Haiti decent is unnerving and he will stop at nothing to get back what’s rightfully his. The story is well written and definitely can have a reader on edge due to the paranormal activity. Brandon Massey is an amazing paranormal writer. He has a way of creating a story with lively character and he makes you wonder if the story and the events could be real. The characters are strong-willed and courageous. The story has an unexpected plot twist that doesn’t let the action sag at any point. The author included moments that played mind tricks with the characters and a few times I was even wondering what was real. The three days did seem to go by very slow. Len and Olivia didn’t take Dr. Laveaux’s threat very seriously. Time was ticking the first two days in slow motion but as the deadline approached it seems the story picked up pace and the ending rushed.
As the count for the days go by, Dr. Laveaux’s antics increased. This unputdownable tale combines style and suspense. You may need to sleep with a nightlight after reading this terrifying thriller. I enjoyed that the author didn’t overwhelm the story with love and romance. I did like that the couple was up against perilous danger and their marriage bond was strengthened. The author did a wonderful job of creating a believable couple complete with flaws and past emotions that Dr. Laveaux plays on. I wanted things to work out for Len and Olivia but I also felt sorry for how Dr. Laveaux lost his house. Yes he is the horrible bad guy and he’s seeking revenge on all who had a part in taking his home.
The novel is spectacularly paced and gives a full story. A reader can’t go wrong with adding this diverting story to their paranormal reading list.

This is my first book by this author, and it won't be my last. Definitely suspenseful with a side of creepy. Len and Olivia move into their dream house that quickly became their worst nightmare. The day they move in an older gentleman arrives to tell them that the house belongs to him, and they had 3 days to get out or else. Well normally a person's natural instinct would be to stand their ground and refuse and that's what Len did during the strange encounter until shortly after things started happening that were hard to explain.
Even without the creepy man showing up, me personally would not want to move into an old house in the south (personal preference). Yes, I would admire it from a far, but I definitely wouldn't live in one. Len and Olivia began seeing the ghosts of loved one's past, doors opening and slamming and their daughter's constant fear of monsters.
This book had all of the spooky vibes. With ties to Haiti and voodoo this book makes you want to grab a crucifix and sprinkle holy water everywhere. The very thing that people often discredit as a myth is very much real as well as the belief that there are still many restless souls that haven't moved on and still cling to the place of their torment and torture. Something Len and Olivia soon find out when they learn the history of their home and what lies beneath the original foundation.
I can't wait to read more from this author. I'm mad it took me so long to find his works.

First off, I didn't read the synopsis I just opened the book & started reading. I guess this is one time that was best cause had I known it was all types of supernatural things going on I most likely wouldn't have read it. I almost put it down after the intro but I held on. Things took a different turn after that so i thought I was in the clear.
A couple Len & Olivia along with their 3 year old daughter moved into an old historic neighborhood in Atlanta. It's just their luck that a house was available for purchase because of foreclosure. Early in the day they have an unexpected visit, the previous owner. He claims the house is still his & gives them 3 days to vacate the premises, Or else! The couple don't take him serious because they have all the correct paperwork. But things start to get really strange.
Once I finally started reading, I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next. The couple was getting on my nerves cause it was like they were doing two different things instead of working together. Len had to finally put his foot down & then they got on the same page.

In the Dark - Supernatural Suspense Thriller
Mason Corner, MS has some secrets and David Hunter is caught up in the horror of this small town after receiving his father's home in the will left by Richard. What is most intriguing is Kal, a Parisian vampire, who carries this story forward. Could this all be a mirage or some septer? I was looking for a scary book, and this one came close with certain scenes (it wasn't very scary to me, but I think it would be to a lot of readers). I liked that it dealt with voodoo, because I haven't read a lot of horror that utilizes that as the delivery of evil. That was cool, and the storyline made sense (and the people actually do things that make sense, unlike so many protagonists in horror!)
One weird thing to note was that there were SO many typos in this book that I found myself wondering where Massey's copyeditor was, because the number of typos was more than just, say, two, and was a bit distracting while reading.

A house possessed
Olivia and Len Bowden buy a home, unknown to them possessed by evil spirits. The next day and elderly man calls on them a claim his home was illegally stolen from him. Pretty good book overall. The ending wrapped up a little too fast for me, there was so much build up and specific details so for it to end so abruptly was slightly a let down to me. But this was definitely engaging, slightly scary - like I was on the edge of my seat a few times.
I listened to this one and the AI narrator is NOT good. It sounds quite robotic. I would suggest listening from a real narrator or reading this one yourself.

I want soooo badly to love Brandon Massey but after reading several of his books, it feels like his writing is plateaued at: cool concept, messy delivery with tons of extraneous things just happening and too tidy endings. His writing is so formulaic I want to scream at the end of each book and say, “for goodness sakes, don’t tie up every single loose end with such neatness.”
I’m not exaggerating: it’s like every story of his ends with happily ever after.

Brandon Massey writes and creates some of the best horror novels and I have enjoyed every last one of them. This book kept me on edge and kept my interest the entire time. As you read, you can tell that he did his research on the subject.

3/5 ⭐️ This was my first super natural book so I didn’t know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised that the book held my interest all the way through because normally I just can’t get into stuff like this. The first 50% of the book was a little slow but it picked up shortly after that and ended up being a thriller as promised.

I really enjoyed this thriller. I already spoke a lot about Brandon Massey on my channel. This was another good Massey book I Couldn't put down as usual. Read it! Definitely his creepiest read for me. All the scenes between Olivia and her brother and Len and his ex girlfriend 😳😬😩. SO CREEPY and well done. I liked the voodoo elements thrown in it with man and was more like "haunted house" vibes than his other books. Poor baby Kennedy went through! Soon as my baby would have been talm bout she seeing monsters n stuff...its time to go.

Len and Olivia werent particularly annoying. Just trying to survive in this house that they've bought without knowing the circumstances of it. The man ain't give a damn about what they know or didn't know. About how legit their purchase was or what contracts they had signed😩. He said "you have three days to get out of MY house."

Too Predictable!
I enjoy reading Brandon Massages novels; however this on very predictable. If lacked intrigue, no twists and turns. "In the Dark" read like a typical haunted house horror story.

Can't remember how I heard about this book but I LOVE a spooky house story! This did not disappoint. Family moves into dream home and then creepy things start happening etc. Usually it's a ghost but not in this case.

Len and Olivia buy a house which unknown to them was fraudulently acquired from the original owner and placed on the market. That owner understandably is not pleased and tells them they have three days to hand it back and being a practitioner of Vodou it doesn't take long before their nightmare begins. Very much enjoyed this novel, my only complaint, and to be fair it's a plot device used by many authors, is this is another book where the protagonists just happen to know someone who just happens to be an expert in what they need to fight the big bad. That minor gripe aside, this is a well written, well paced horror novel from an author who has never disappointed me.
