This book was on the shelf in the room where I stayed during a recent one-day personal prayer retreat. The title intrigued me, so I gave it a try. Was quickly drawn in, and read through to completion. I liked the clear message that going deeper in any spiritual discipline is more about becoming increasingly one with Christ. Yes, other things can grow out of that, such as wisdom, guidance, creativity, sense and renewal of call, stronger faith, etc, but at the heart the goal is to know Christ more intimately. It's a message of which I needed to be reminded.
I also appreciated the style of writing; a nice mix of practical explanation with personal experiences. Suggested exercises are included at the end of each chapter. I've since purchased this book (in a newer 2013 reprint entitled "The Spiritual Art of Creative Silence: Lessons in Christian Meditation") because I want to be able to practice some of these exercises.
