Love Has No Boundaries Anthology: Volume 11

Rate this book
The stories you are about to read celebrate love, sex and romance between men. They are a product of the Love Has No Boundaries promotion sponsored by the Goodreads M/M Romance Group, and each anthology is published as a gift to you.

What Is Love Has No Boundaries?

The Goodreads M/M Romance Group invited members to choose a photo and pen a letter asking for a short M/M romance story inspired by the image; authors from the group were then encouraged to select a letter and write an original tale. The result was an outpouring of creativity that shone a spotlight on the special bond between M/M romance writers and the people who love what they produce.

Nearly 190 stories were submitted and have now been published as a twelve volume set with two additional bonus volumes, titled Love Has No Boundaries. This edition is Volume 11.

Words of Caution

The stories in this collection may contain sexually explicit content and are intended for adult readers. They may also contain content that is disagreeable or distressing to some readers. The M/M Romance Group strongly recommends that the reader review the General Information section before each story for story tags as well as for content warnings.

Loyalty Deserved by Kathryn Sparrow

Cartoon Logic by Andrea Speed 3 stars - (humorous, contemporary, light fantasy) I was actually surprised by this.

My first thought before reading it was "Is it stupid that the description about a cartoonist annoys me because the picture clearly has the guys in some sort of studio (with makeup for modeling or acting or something behind them)?"

My first though after starting it was "this is kind of a rip off of the movie Cool World."

But my thoughts once reading it were "this is actually pretty fucking funny!" I loved the gasping and the Dusty's idiotic simplicity. I didn't even really think they needed the "one year later" but it was cute and sweet. :)

The Pilot and the Major by D.H. Starr

Three Part Harmony by Tielle St. Clare

Oil and Water by Goesta Struve-Dencher

Hands-on Justice by Laurie Terson

Love Has No End by Jonathan Treadway

What Comes To Hand by Tripoli

Sticking It by K. Vale

Genie in a Beanie by Indra Vaughn 3 stars - (contemporary, light magic) Hmm, well, the first thing I have to say is that the tone of the scene with the baby that the picture is depicting is so very different. It's not a huge deal, and it was a very creative story, but it was such a hostile scene it's odd to look back at the two smiling men in this pic. Anyway, I liked this story enough. It was a creative idea. I just wish Max hadn't been such a raging dick in the beginning. I get the reason, and David had a good explanation later of how it allowed their relationship to develop quicker , but he was just such a dick. And then he did a 180, from David's POV anyway. From the moment he asked awkwardly for the beanie I knew he liked Davis, but yeah. Then I was on board.

But I have to say, as much as I like sex in my books, I think this one would have been better served without it. It was a nice story, that to throw a sex scene on at the very end... while a hot sex scene, just felt random and out of place. So the ending felt abrupt, whereas if it had been a chapter earlier, it would have felt more natural to me.

Baited by Tami Veldura 2 stars - (contemporary) So initially, I really liked this. I wish there were a smaller time gap instead of twenty years to make it more believable, but I appreciate the thought. But where things turned for me was the first sex scene, I wasn't really feeling an emotional connection from Mason

And while I get that homophobic assholes exist and therefor sometimes appear in my stories, this was a little over the top. Not only that, but I just didn't want these guys to stay in that effen town. It's terrible! And none of that was resolved. Just the attitude of "oh well, this is what we'll have to deal with." There are other rural places they can move to where people aren't complete dicks.

Lastly, the reading of the will was stupid , and their history was never completely explained , I thought Ms. Amelia's action were totes uncool , and where the hell is Zack's family?!?

Heart in Hand by L.T. Ville - (contemporary, boxing) poor reviews, gonna skip this one.

Strip, Please by Jena Wade 3 stars - (contemporary, cop) The first 3/4 of this story was leaning more towards a 4 star rating for me. I liked both the characters, and they were fairly well developed given the length of the story. We didn't know too much about Matt but I liked how once he decided he liked Lucky he didn't hem and haw with indecisiveness, or even have any negative thoughts are actions due to him being a stripper although he obviously wanted him to quit. Where it lost me was at their reunion. Why do authors feel the need to ruin a perfectly good love story with stereotypical HEA expectations? Don't get me wrong, I love these guys together, but they've known each one week! So that totally sucked me out of the story unfortunately.

I have to admit though, I'm intrigued by Gavin and I hope there is another installment featuring him

Transforming Us by Jena Wade

Happy Endings by Deanna Wadsworth

Pledge Number Seven by C.M. Walker

Dance With Me by Aubrey Watt

Love on a Wing and a Prayer by T.A. Webb 4 stars - (contemporary, military) How perfectly sweet was this?! Great pacing. We got to know the guys enough that I felt a connection, without overkill for a short. Nice little Epilogue to wrap things up. Well developed secondary character in Gio, and a peek at Alex. I hope we don't have to wait till next years LiAW event for the next in this series!

Ok, this one was a bit more disappointing than the other ones, but in the end there were some gems there that I really, really liked. So please make up your own minds as there is plenty for everyone and you can decide for yourselves. :)
I know it is not really helpful but I guess you have to tackle the anthology monster on your own. LOL

I've written this about some of the previous volumes and have to say it again. This anthology was a mixed bag. That's not surprising since the stories are organized by author last name and lump multiple genres and heat levels together.

I'll concentrate on the positive and say that this sci-fi fan really enjoyed "Loyalty Deserved" by Kathryn Sparrow. I'd give that story a 4 and definitely recommend getting this volume even for that story alone. It was creative and had unexpected twists and a rich fictional world.

"Hands-On Justice" by Laurie Terson was another stand-out piece. Great suspense and tension, and the pacing was perfect. Another 4 stars to this one.
