Sophie didn’t plan on falling for a wealthy, exotic man named Dom when she left on a last-minute vacation with her friend. But after the pair grows closer, both the secrets that Dom keeps and the sexy exchanges that they share begin to take a darker turn.
As the two lovers navigate through a seedy world of crime, drugs and sex, their kinky appetites only grow. Will Sophie and Dom fall prey to the icy grip of the criminal underworld, or will their twisted desire for each other prove to be stronger than anyone thought possible?
Cara hails from sunny Southern California where she spends her days dreaming up the steamiest erotica to unleash on the public. In her off time she is often found either day-dreaming or exploring the many exciting activities that her home state offers.
Because this was part of an anthology with multiple books by various authors, I was expecting more of a short story or novella length book. Instead, I was treated to this full fledged, well developed novel length read. This book is truly unlike any I have ever read.
It started out as what I thought would be a benign tale of a sexy tryst with a dark and handsome stranger in the tropics...and then turned into so much more. These pages contained romance, erotica, suspense, crime, drama, drug-lords & gang violence, for starters...The backstories of Dom & Sophie were intriguing and detailed. The words successfully conveyed the dark and light aspects of both of their personalities which demonstrated that they were similar enough to blend together as a formidable team, yet at the same time, contrasted enough to ignite emotional conflict and passion that could be their seving grace or their downfall...
Great book. The fusion of multiple genres rarely work so well or blend so seamlessly as they do in this one.
Not sure what the author was really going for here. Could have used two things right up front - some proofing and some editing. It really isn't more than a short story in concept and it is trying to be a novella. Remove the sex scenes and the story is - terrible. But the sex scenes are ok, which is why I say I am not sure what the goal was. Give up the pretense of it being a book and put it out there as what it is - loosely linked sex scenes. Compress it down into one wild weekend as a long short story, and a lot of problems are instantly fixed. Does not work as is.
And I have to wonder if the author has ever traveled to another country as the ease with which these people go places is beyond fantasy. :)
This book is another reason why we need half stars on Goodreads.
Sex Scenes give it 2 stars, story line gives it one.
The sexual scenes were erotic and just fine (definitely could get you heated) however the story line is just exhausting.
Sophie is a whiny moron who throws herself at the first guy she meets (such as her ex boyfriend back at home, fyi) and then whines when it doesn't turn out the way she somehow expected. ...
And them heaving 'hot sex' in the Colombian forest while she's hopped up on Coke? Come on, really?
Anyways. You can read it if you like, like I said, sex scenes are steamy, but, it's definitely not worth buying and I'd be pissed if I hadn't gotten it for free on the Kindle.
I really don't know what happened with this book. First who in the hell sleeps with someone the second time they meet with no protection? Another problem for me was who just ups and leave their whole life behind for this same man that you just meet without knowing anything about him? I don't know this book was so up and down for me. I never knew how old these people were, and we never found out what happened to her friend Ari and her ex boyfriend Chris. So many loose ends that needed closing. Not never good. Only thing that kept me reading was the sex scenes and I have never not finished a book before. I glad I did not pay money for this.
Unfortunately this book was not that great. At least not for me :( It's superficial, everything is on speed dial, you find yourself reading about a lot of things and wonder why don't you feel connected at all with the story and the characters. Except for the sex scenes which are pretty good and happen like every five minutes, there is nothing else interesting in this book. I can't put my finger on it, i can't explain why I didn't enjoy this book - but I just didn't. I'm sorry if I'm hurting someone's feelings, but this is the truth. It needs more work, more sparkle :)
I received this book as part of an ARC set entitled "Made For Sin" in exchange for an honest review. This was the first book in the series as well as the first book I have ever read by Cara Layton. Honestly, I struggled to read this story. First of all it is written as if re-telling a story without a lot of details. Then the light BDSM erotica scenes turned me off. I do admit that the story got a little better as it went along but then it kind of fizzled out in the ending. This story may appeal to erotica fans but it wasn't something that I normally would prefer to read. 2.5 Stars!
I should have figured when there was an error in the first sentence that things were not going to be great. The story had potential and with work could have been much better but it was too all over the place.
And what happened to Chris?? He leaves her this threatening voicemail and then *poof* gone....
