Mastering Maeve
Finished with college and unable to find a job in her chosen field, twenty-four year old Maeve O’Reilly saw little choice but to return to her hometown in Connemara and work in her grandmother’s hotel. Maeve has barely walked in the door, however, when she learns that the establishment is deep in debt and an American visitor is considering an investment which could be the only chance to avoid foreclosure.

A lot of writers will tell you that they dreamed of being a writer for years and were making up stories from they were knee high to a grasshopper. And a lot of them loved English class.
I dodged all forms of essay homework (not even bothering to look for an original or plausible excuse) and entertained myself and by poor desk mate during my English classes by very rudely paraphrasing and taking the mickey out of Francis Bacon…yep, looking back, that’s probably when I should have had my first good spanking. If not for wasting my own education, then surely for distracting my misfortunate neighbour.
Then I started an affair with my computer, so much so that I nearly had to be surgically removed from it. And what’s an affair without a good measure of hot sex and erotic spanking? And that’s how it happened!
My Naughty Little Secret is my first book. The next one will show a common feature with the last: A feisty Irish girl with more spirit than sense and a tanned bottom to prove it. What can I say? I just love strong women and spanking…
When I’m not writing, I’m a wife and mother living in the West of Ireland. My job description varies from taxi service, washerwoman, chief cook, gofer and general finder of lost items. The writing has to fit in around that.

A second novel by Tara Finnegan and it is as witty and sexy as the first! Mastering Maeve follows the story of a feisty heroine. She helps her grandmother run a hotel that she comes to find out is in dire financial straits. A businessman named Larry shows interest in backing the business and also reluctantly falls for the bristly Maeve.
I loved the back and forth between Maeve and Larry. They are both pretty head strong and don't back down from a fight. Larry's domineering ways are a lot for Maeve to handle at first, but she comes to find that she needs them in her life as much as she needs Larry.
This was a great story with realistic characters that you will fall in love with. Maeve's grandmother, Bridie, was one of my favorite people in the book. She was witty and conniving- everything an Irish grandmother should be! Ms. Finnegan weaves a tale of romance, against the gorgeous backdrop of the Irish countryside, that you can't help but fall in love with. She once again tells a vivid story sprinkled with humor and lots or sexy scenes to keep you coming back for more.
I highly recommend this book to any romance lover who wants a chance to escape into a brilliantly written, smart, and funny novel.

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of this book before its release.
First, the title. It's a gorgeous title and it completely fits because Maeve is one tough Irish cookie but Larry surely does master her! I started out crying with the opening of the story, connecting immediately with the women. Then I met Larry and thought this is going to be H-O-T. He is a Texas rancher and there's just something about those Texans. Then I laughed because Tara has such a unique style of writing, the Irish way of speaking, the funny little sayings, the bit of history pours through the pages and I've yet to meet a weak female character written by Tara Finnegan. Then as I read on, I was completely turned on.
The story in Mastering Maeve is excellent, realistic and sexy at once. The spankings are plentiful and hot, the sex that follows them even hotter. No, that's not right. They're both equal in heat. And when they would visit the school room, oh my...
Nice touch on the epilogue - I won't spoil it but nice. A hot, sexy, feisty, fun read from a wonderfully talented author.

Enter Larry Willamson, a Texas rancher who is visiting with his Grandfather Lawrence to check out a potential investment opportunity in the hotel. He finds himself equally fascinated and frustrated by the beautiful & hot tempered Irish woman.
Author, Tara Finnegan continues her trend of writing thoroughly entertaining, spunky, & rich characters in Mastering Maeve as she did in her debut novel My Naughty Little Secret. Rivaling her ability to spin characters like no other is her propensity to layer a rich tapestry of history into her books. I just can’t get enough of it.
Maeve and Larry’s chemistry was smoking. The schoolroom scene was as hot as it gets. There is great relationship development as the pair worked together & I thought Maeve’s reaction to the initial spanking was realistic.
My only caveat impeding a raving review was that the plot started meandering about halfway through and it felt like we were taking on a long and winding ride.
In the end I was left satisfied with a story well done. There’s a very special revelation at the end of the book that was a sweet surprise. I think all who read it will love it very much.

Well written story with a great storyline. But I found myself a bit frustrated with the two main characters when it came to their interaction with each other and their own self-refection. Also, I wish the grandmother story and roll had been better fleshed out.
