August is the hottest time of the year in Florida, and Vince Tanzi would just as soon sweat it out in his study chair with a few beers. He's had enough of the world after losing his wife, and spending nine months in jail. He's at the bottom of a downward spiral that began when he "retired" from the Indian River County Sheriff's Department in Vero Beach, and began a second career as a P.I., which has been on hold since he got out.
He gets a call from his dead wife's friend, who has been shot at twice. She doesn't want to call the police. He takes the case, and follows her husband through the groves, beaches, golf courses, cities and restaurants of the Sunshine State. In the process he turns up a secret that changes everything.
Vince's dry humor and keen observations propel this mystery-romance across central Florida, through Buddhist temples, abandoned factories and hurricanes. For fans of mysteries with wit, and an edge.
C.I. Dennis is the author of the Vince Tanzi series. He also writes under the pen name Zig Davidson.
Dennis has roots in Vermont and Florida, as does his flawed-but-likable protagonist Vince Tanzi, a retired deputy and now private investigator. Try the Tanzi series if you like page-turners with wit, action, romance, and vivid characters who lead complicated and unpredictable lives.
Wow! I' m very impressed by this book! The characters are great and very likeable or dislikeable whichever the case may be. Lots of action and twists and turns!! Loved the ride, ready for more!
New author for me and I will definitely read more of his books. Tanzi is a PI down in Florida. He used to be a cop before his wife, Glory got shot and he was the prime suspect. Since he was drunk at the time he believed it too. Problem is, she was shot from bullets that came from 2 different guns. Tanzi is hired by someone to find out who had taken a shot at her. She couldn't go to the police, because his business isn't totally on the up and up. Her husband is a real piece of work and unraveling the truth provides a lot of excitement. I did a couple of 180s as I was heading in the wrong direction from the author's plan, which probably was the author's plan.
Tanzi is a PI and was a former cop. He had also been previously charged with his wife's murder, but, after spending seven months in jail, the charges were dropped. He is hired by a beautiful woman to look into her husband and determine why she had been shot at. The more he looks, the more complex the plot gets. Although the action (and there is lots of it) takes place in today's world, the novel reminds me of many of the classic PI novels of the 60's and 70's. It is a fast fun read and well worth the reader's time.
A tightly written, fast moving detective story. Tanzi is a detective who was formerly a deputy with the Indian River County Sheriff's Office. So much happens in this book and at a fast pace, so it was very entertaining. There are car chases, car wrecks, a hurricane, an explosion, shootings - hard to believe the amount of events that occurred and it was all neatly tied up at the end. It took place from Vero Beach to Lake Wales to Tampa and covered places in between. Nice change of pace book.
A great start to this series which takes the reader to warmer climates and weaves and integrate tale. Vince Tanzi is a retired cop who is down on his luck until a case he can’t refuse comes calling and takes him all over central Florida. The plot moves at a good clip and while it doesn’t keep you guessing, it has enough twists and turns a long with a bunch of action to keep the reader engaged. The characters are interesting and the writing is great. I can’t wait to move on in the series!
Excellent start for a series! The main character, Vince Tanzi endears himself to the reader immediately. He is a former sheriff department deputy that was charged and later exonerated for the murder of his wife and who is now working as a PI. The story is a fast and great read with enough twists and turns to keep the reader turning the pages. I highly recommend this book and plan to read more of the series!
Not deep or meaningful, a quick moving plot and a detective with a sense of humor is a solid choice for an easy weekend read. Reminds me a bit of Janet Evanovich’s “Stephanie Plum” series— but this doesn’t deliver those laugh out loud moments. Still Tanzi’s Heat kept me entertained.
This story was exciting, well written and hard to put down. I like the characters and how they were developed. I will look for other books by this author.
This is a fast paced action packed story that had me losing sleep worrying about what was going to happen next. Vince is a no nonsense PI/ex cop with a quick wit and a fast car.
This was a book I hoped to pretty much like, mind candy, light entertainment. And it was that, but with the occasional intake of breath and more emotional investment than I had expected. I will definitely be reading more C. I. Dennis. Tanzi packs a punch.
A good 'whodunnit' & I particularly liked that it takes place in areas familiar to me. I never realized that knowing the places the story is happening in would make such a difference in how much I enjoyed it, but it does. I will be checking out the other books in this series.
I've just finished the 3 books. I actually read them out of order but they still made sense. You could read one and not all three but I was hooked after the first one and just had to read them all.
Not a super comp!ex story but holds your interest and highlights places I know well in Florida. Good characters bad plot development and would read another.
Well written, mostly cozy pleasure read. A good bedtime book, it won't keep you up nights; but, it will keep you coming back with its intresting plot and humor. Recommended.
This one captured my interest from the start. I really liked the characters and the writing style. The main character is Vince Tanzi, a former deputy and now a private investigator in Vero Beach, Florida. He had left the sheriff's department in a cloud, thought to have murdered his wife, but cleared. When a friend of his wife’s asks for his help because she had been shot at twice he can't resist. The story drew me in and was hard to put down. I am looking forward to reading the sequel.
Vince Tanzi, retired from River County Sheriff's Dept.. Just realizes after 9 months, from prison for the killing of his wife. There was a problem with the two bullets, one from his gun & another that didn't match. He came home really drunk, at the top of their stairs he thought there was an intruder, fell down the stairs & was unconscious. It's a while after being released where he feels he needs to stop drinking to start living his life. He decides to be a PI again, after getting a call from Barbara Butler who used to know his wife. She has recently been shot at twice, but doesn't want the police involved. He takes the case & starts investigating. He doesn't know how involved the case really is, especially involving her husband D.B. hunter. I don't want to give more information. There is so much action, high speed chases, some could be deadly, possible love. And things that you would never think could be real & happening, but do. Enjoy this fast paced book.
