When want-to-be PI Sydney Bucco lost her dad, she picked up the pieces, left home and never looked back. Now on the verge of losing another close family member she may be forced to do the same. But this time her job and her dream are the line. And there's only one way to save them--achieve the unattainable and make a multi-million dollar deal with the most wanted man in America.

Ray Carlson has always been great at two things: playing football and taking care of his little sister. But while he's away at college, scoring touchdowns and winning the hearts of fans, he drops the only ball that really matters. It's been four years since he last saw his sister and she's constantly on his mind, but so is the biggest decision of his career. As first ranking draft prospect, everybody wants a piece of him, and when his would-be agent is involved in a tragic accident, everyone comes running--including her assistant, Sydney.

She's an amateur and she's desperate. But so is Ray and they soon forge an alliance to get the two things they want most in the world. Somewhere along the way, they get far more than they bargained for.

F.X. Scully

F.X. Scully loves romance, but she doesn't write your typical Happily Ever After. Because let's face it, in the real world, it can sometimes take a lot of angst and pain before you get there. And some of us never do. But since most of us pick up books to escape the real world, her stories don't lack hot boyfriends and sexy encounters. Neither will she leave you completely heart broken, sobbing into a tub of ice cream. Rest assured you'll be on a roller coaster, but you'll be glad you went along for the ride.

F.X. is the author of TWO THOUSAND 3 (November 2013) and BECAUSE OF LUKE (February 2014).

Egads! She’s done it again Scully takes us through the ringer. This entire series has been one I’ve followed since the beginning. Its been a long time since we left the Black’s and Carlson’s things have not been all they were meant to be. As we soon find out early in the book.

But FIRST…

We meet Ray…

LUKES SON!!!!!!!!!!

Eeeeeeeep!!

happy animated GIF

You know what that means? Luke has got to be right down the road right? Well let me tell you! This book was about Ray’s life and doing right by his sister.

He is just…

the mindy project animated GIF

Protective, loving, kind, gentle, honest…Oh and did I mention the #1 overall prospect into the NFL?!! He didn’t go into the team we were all hoping for…Actually he went into the team that out of 32…I hate with a passion of ten thousand burning suns. Bit much? Nope the hate runs deep. This team is currently winless and just lost their head coach so picking first in the draft does make sense but…wah.

modern family animated GIF

Talk about a shocking ending! Trust me when I say its in a good way. Ray finds all of the answers he’s been seeking all along. I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here. His sister is quite the firecracker and she has some deep seeded anger.

I’ve come to care quite deeply for these characters so I hope they find a way to come together. This wasn’t as dark or gritty as the rest of the Black Family Saga books but get ready for another roller coaster ride. Scully doesn’t do rainbows and bunnies, she keeps it real. Her characters are super flawed and they stumble and through their mistakes they find a way to better themselves. I recommend this series that like a lot of twists and turns full of drama and secrets.

My Rating
4.0 All Star, Coma, Dinner, Contract, Missing Sister, Deal, Secrets, Blogger, PI, More Secrets, Father, Uncle, Aunt, Even More Secrets, First Pick, San Francisco, Motel, Mirror Image, Confessions unwavering mistake riddled past filled stars! Its time for some redemption and correcting the past in order to mend the future. This has been quite the roller coaster ride but I recommend it for sure!

I really really need to read blurbs and not just say I love this author, I’m reading it no matter what. Want to know why? Cuz I was really excited to read a new book from FX Scully. I would have been even MORE excited if I had realized just who this story was about. This is the one I’ve been waiting for!

This is Ray’s story. If you don’t know who Ray is, I’ll let you connect the dots as you read through the story and finally realize WHO Ray is. I should have caught it earlier in the book with all of the names that kept popping up, but it took one name in particular for me to go OMG! That’s who Ray is.

Don’t judge. I’m great at remembering main characters names in each book, but just like in real life, other names…. I forget until I come upon them again.

So before I realized who Ray was, I was deep into the book. I loved it from the beginning. It started out with Sydney, which might be why I didn’t connect the dots until I got farther in. Sydney was a great character. She had a lot going against her, but she didn’t just take it and give up. She fought for what she wanted, for what she needed, and she just kept on plugging away.

Ray. I’m so proud of Ray. Of who he has become no matter what his start in life was. It feels like he is just starting to really think for himself, get a feel for who he is, and make decisions on his own. His entire background that he knows is this entangled web that needs to be brushed away.

I loved this! I think that this is possibly my favorite FX Scully book to date. It’s a tight race though. I cannot wait to read Ray’s sister’s story. I think that is where things are going to get really interesting. Especially with the note that Blitz ended on.

5 stars!

Thank you so much for my copy of Blitz. I wouldn’t have missed this one for the world!

Blitz was a fun, all consuming read. I've needed reads like this lately, ones that suck you until the very last page! I loved Ray and Sydney's characters throughout the whole book! They are spunky, fun, and both battling their own demons. I loved that it wasn't one character saving the other, they both save each other.

Sydney is in a postion of desperation when she meets Ray. She needs him to sign with her in order to save her everything her cousin has worked for. He cousin is the best sports agent around but is losing everything after an accident puts her in a coma. There is an instant connection between these two but they both try and play it off. It was fun picturing all of their interactions, you can feel the sexual tension steaming off the pages.

Sydney wasn't the only one needing something though, Jay needs her too. They strike a deal that will benefit them both but of course things end up complicated. Sydney takes a shortcut in finding what she needs to give Jay what he wants, but once delivered it not what Jay expected. It actually took me by surprise and I love it!

Just when these two make a breakthrough through insecurity and distrust rear their ugly heads and stir the pot a bit. Lies are told and secrets unfold that shake up everything Jay thought he knew. He realizes maybe Sydney wasn't lying, BUT it's hard for him to see past everything that has happened.

The book flow was great and the writing was exceptional. Not once in the book did I feel bored or disinterested. It was a fun read with twists and turns at every corner that will keep your eyes glued to the pages. FX Scully is a brilliant writer and I am excited to follow everything to come!

4 stars: A captivating story

This book is the first in a new series called Emerald City, but is the 4th in the Black Family Saga. This book can be read without reading the previous stories, as they take place in the future compared to when the others take place, but having the knowledge from the first books really rounds out the story. Ray is the son of Luke Black and he has graduated from college, trying to decide which agent and pro football team to sign with. He is a good boy who has had a non-traditional upbringing. However, aside from his sister running away, he tries to rise above his circumstances. In comes Sydney, assistant/cousin to the agent who has had her eye on Ray. She is a mess, doesn't have a steady job, lives in a sparse apartment, and her cousin is in a coma. Sydney is trying to save her cousin's career by signing Ray, but has to go about it in some unconventional ways. The story that unfolds is so interesting, once you start reading, you will not stop. Ray and Sydney are quite endearing and you are rooting for everything to work out for them. There is a good bit of drama that will leave you enraptured, but the roller coaster that you are taken on is not quite as heart-wrenching as the previous books. I still definitely found the book enjoyable and would recommend it to anyone. There is passion, a feeling of falling in love with someone you probably shouldn't, and enough edge-of-your-seat drama to keep you reading. I kind of missed the crazy, extreme emotions of the previous books, but I still enjoyed this story.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Sydney Bucco is a PI in training. She wants to be a P I but she is just starting and doesn't have a lot of experience. She is also an assistant to her cousin, Reese, who is currently in a coma from an accident. Reese books talent such as football and basketball players. Ray (Stingray) Carlson is an up and coming number one draft pick. Sydney knows Reese wanted to represent him in his career. She sets out to do what it takes to get him to sign. She doesn't know how to go about this and she doesn't make a great impression. Ray wants to find his sister who he hasn't seen since she was eighteen. He tells Sydney if she finds her he will sign with Reese. She sets out to find her for Ray and she uses a fellow investigator with connections. He helps her find Ray's sister but at a cost. Sydney goes with Ray to Idaho to see his sister. She wants nothing to do with him or her family. Someone leaks a story to the press about Ray's family that destroys Mariah, Ray's sister, who has been hiding her identity to protect her from rejection. This is a continuing story, so I was a little disappointed. The story is good and I know you will enjoy it. This book contains a small amount of sex and some profanity so it may not be for everyone.

Blitz is book one in the Emerald City series and book four in the Black Family series. Even though it's listed as book four in the Black Family series, you don't need to read the Black Family series first. Blitz is the first book I read by FX Scully. I loved it.

Blitz is told in the dual POVs of Ray and Sydney. Sydney is a PI who is working as an assistant for her cousin. Her cousin Reese is an agent for baseball and football player. Reese is in a coma and Sydney will do anything it takes to sign Ray and save Reese's job. Ray wants to find his sister, Mariah. Sydney offers to use her PI skills to help find her.

Ray is a great character. He's a big shot football player but he's not cocky and controlling. Ray is just all around a sweet nice guy. Sydney is a straight forward girl. She is very loyal and trusting. She may be too trusting in some cases.

I really enjoyed reading Ray and Sydney's story. I loved reading about Ray's family. Ray has an interesting family. I can't wait to read more in the next book, Black Sheep.

Sydney is a new inexperienced PI. Now though she works for her cousin Reese, who is in a coma. She works as Reese's assistant and when her cousin falls into a come, Sydney steps up. Reese works as an agent for football and basketball players. That's how she meets Ray.
There is Ray who cares only about football an his sister. But when he goes off to college he forgets his sister. Then Sydney shows up wanting him to sign with Reese but he won't unless she helps find his sister. But his sister wants nothing to do with him. Secrets come out and hurt everyone.
It was an okay book. Ray and Sydney start off not really liking each other. Eventually, despite what they want, they start having feelings for each other. I think that I needed to read her other books to really appreciate this story

I really enjoyed this read. Sometimes I am not a fan of switching POVs, but this book is written very well. The transitions from one POV to the next is very smooth. I also really enjoyed the dual POVs. Getting insight in to both of the characters really brought the story together.

I love the Black family. I was really excited to hear that we would get another Black family story. I was also kind of excited it was Ray's. This book was a really fun read. I liked the witty characters and their fire. I also like that this book didn't just have one broken character. Instead both of these characters worked to save each other.

~~~RECEIVED FOR HONEST REVIEW~~~
F.X. Sully is one amazing author who I have had the privilege to read for again. And of course no disappointment when reading. This book is a roller coaster with suspense to keep you guessing what will take place next from one page to the next. Hard to put down once you have started. A little romance to top it all off. This is one book that you don't want to miss out on!
Really love this authors books so I was super excited to read this one. I totally loved it. This author has nailed it again.
Ray and Sydney are the main characters in this story. Grab on to the side of your chair for a really great rollercoster of a story. I was literally gripped with this storyline and ended up reading this in a day.
I highly recommend all of this authors books. Fantastic.
