Outbreak: Visions of the Apocalypse

Rate this book
Visions of the Apocalypse is a unique anthology of excerpts from previously published works by numerous popular authors who share their own visions of how the zombie apocalypse will unfold. It’s an appetizing sampler platter and introduction to the horrific worlds described in their books. Their combined visions offer a compelling, fast paced, ride through apocalyptic possibilities. All profits go to the highly respected medical charity Direct Relief International (www.directrelief.org).

What happens when you put a bunch of zombie book authors in the same online group? They come up with Visions of the Apocalypse! While they may vary in details, like the day it starts or the cause of the outbreak, the intensity and teeth gnashing gore of zombies is the unifying theme. You will sample apocalyptic scenarios from numerous perspectives; including a wealthy man on a ship, a bounty hunter, a corrections officer, a soldier in Iraq, a scientist, a child in a school, a parent trying to rescue his child from a school, a group of futuristic teenage gamers, a family just trying to get out alive, a soldier in the future, and even a zombie! Each story flows together to give a complete picture of the end of the world.

This anthology was compiled by David P Forsyth. Contributing authors include Hugh Howey, Craig DiLouie, Shawn Chesser, Rhiannon Frater, DA Roberts, John Campbell, Dan Williams, Saul Tanpepper, Joseph Souza, Julie Rudolph, Ian Woodhead, Samuel Garcia, Mark Clodi and many more!

Not only will you be teased with a collection of bite sized chunks from a collection of some of the greats in the zombie world, but you'll be contributing to a worthwhile charity. Direct Relief International provides tens of millions of dollars of medical aid to victims of poverty, disease, civil unrest and natural disasters all over the world each year (with a 99% effective charitable rating by Forbes). In the event of a global pandemic, such as a zombie apocalypse, Direct Relief International would be on the front lines. The contributing authors are proud to donate all proceeds from this anthology to such a worthy cause and encourage you to consider making additional donations too. The authors also hope that this introduction to their work will tempt you to buy the full editions too.

Please note that I am rating the other authors in this collection, not my own contribution. And I could certainly criticize the editing! I am just so happy that so many good authors contributed to this project that I must give them kudos.

It is also important to note that none of the authors, nor myself, will receive any royalties/profits from this book. Permuted Press is donating all proceeds to Direct Relief International to provide medical aid to victims of poverty, natural disaster and civil unrest. (www.directrelief.org)

Those who are looking for complete stories may indeed be disappointed. Only a few of the entries are self-contained short stories. The rest are excerpts from previously published works that offer a taste of the authors' individual approach to a zombie apocalypse. If you are familiar with some of the works these submissions are taken from, you can skip over them or revisit memorable scenes. The true aim of this book, however, is to introduce you to new books and authors. With twenty to choose from, I hope you will find something new that captures your attention.

Even if you only find a few new books and authors to follow up on, I hope you will still consider it worthwhile and for a worthy cause. And, if by chance you don't like any of the stories, this collection is a small price to pay to discover that.

This book was presented to me as if it were zombie short stories from a smattering of authors. Instead it is just excerpts from other books you have to purchase.
