This was a birthday gift for my tractor-loving toddler's second birthday. She adores it and we have read it nearly every day since. My fondness for the book, naturally, has diminished as the number of times we read it increases, but I digress. Each page makes noise, such as the rumble of the tractor engine or the quacking of a duck on the farm. There isn't much of a story, just a little rhyme about taking care of the farm. There are lots of things to look at and flaps to lift. It is pretty interactive, and as previously stated, Heather loves it.
This book has more flaps than your great grandmother! It's a really neat little book filled with lots of details for children to uncover and explore and it has several sounds, activated by bright light from the room when the flaps are lifted.
A day at the farm can be an exhilarating one, especially when Chug Chug Tractor makes "plowing" through this book, both easy, and fun.
Chug Chug Tractor encounters many friends throughout the day while working on the farm. He sees chickens, a barn cat, ducks, a group of piglets and more. Some of the curious animals play a game of hide-n-go-seek, while others take a nap or make a lot of noise. A group of bunnies suddenly scatter from behind a clump of flowers as Chug Chug Tractor passes them by. I wonder what made them hop away?
Chug Chug Tractor is a stimulating board book, loaded with fun, that has five light-activated sounds and sixteen lifting flaps full of wonder. The surprising sounds will have children “quacking" up when they pull back a particular flap. Parents, may find themselves, “squealing” at the turn of each page while learning about the farm and its many inhabitants, too.
Chug Chug Tractor makes a great “seed” to sew into a child’s growing garden of rhyming books. Several learning activities are scattered about on each page. In addition to discovering those hidden “needles in the haystack” behind the flaps, the reader also learns about Chug Chug Tractor; what he does and the name of his various tractor parts. For example: humans have legs which we use to walk upon. Chug Chug Tractor has big chunky tires which he uses to roll about on while driving on the land.
The illustrations in Chug Chug Tractor are an interesting mixture of traditional one-dimensional illustration combined with photographic images. The colorful pages and overall eye-catching appearance, will aide in engaging children in the various activities and pop-ups offered on each page.
After reading Chug Chug Tractor, one can’t help but want to “crow” about this entertaining board book and share it with their “neigh”bor. Just be “wise” like the owl and try not to “milk” it to much or the battery in the book might sour a bit too soon.
Chug Chug Tractor Getting chores done Always tending to the farm From dusk until the rising of the next sun - NDP
This is a picture "look and see" book for young children. It is about things that a tractor does around the farm. It also shows animals on the farm and how the tractor can help them. It is a very educational book on farm life.
You could use this book in class to help show younger students see what all happens on the farm. You could discuss other cars like bulldozers, backhoes, and combines that you might use on a farm to help keep the plants growing and keep things running smoothly.
