Moving to new locale after a painful breakup, Ophelia Dean becomes stranded on a lonely stretch of mountainside road. Desperate with few options, Ophelia seeks help from the mountain’s solitary resident. Charmed by the stranger’s solemn nature and strength of character Ophelia discovers that love can come about in the most unlikely places. After years of military life and numerous tours in Afghanistan, Heath Rogan enjoys the solitude of nature on his mountain. The rituals of simple living keep the headaches at bay and give him time to mourn the loss of good friends and family. When Heath’s path crosses with Ophelia, he is struck by how quickly priorities can become muddled when he meets the one woman he desires to make his for a lifetime.

1.50 Stars. (BW/WM). Kindle Unlimited 150 page novella e-book. Heathcliff Rogan is a retired special ops military man who is living off the land and renovating his parents home in an effort to deal with his PTSD. Ophelia Dean is a literary proof reader who has inherited her late aunt's cabin which is on the same mountain as Heath’s home. After hitting a deer, Ophelia wonders upon Heath's home as she seeks help to ending the deer's suffering and to getting her car in for repairs. The sexual and romantic attraction of Heath and Ophelia is immediate and inside a week or two they are talking marriage. The story seems rushed with little dialogue between the protagonists and lots of grammatical error.
It's only 79 pages so expect it to move along rapidly.
Heartbroken Ophelia and lone mountain man Heath meet when she crashes into a deer below his mountain. It's not long before they're sharing much more than a hello. Heath was like a starved man and of course Ophelia wasn't saying no to any of his sexual demands including anal. I liked them as a couple. Heath lacked the usual man whore characteristics so prevalent in romance these days, he was a genuinely nice guy who took no crap from anyone. Ophelia wasn't a wilting virgin either.
Annoying. I've said it before but its clearly something I'll be repeating here. Why bother labouring over a novella and then releasing it to the public in its draft form. I say draft because the mistakes are so numerous (and so painfully obvious) it must be. If the author is serious about her work she needs to get an editor or a beta group before she releases anything else. It had the potential to be much better than it was.
This book had a lot of potential. Outside of a couple of verb/noun agreement issues that could be chalked up more to typos than bad grammar, the writing was really good. The character set up was also really good. I thought the heroine and the hero had...say it with me now...potential.
My biggeest problem is the pacing of the story. This was a lightning romance. It felt like they met, had sex, had moved in together and were about to get married in a matter of a weeks. I could have been convinced if the author had taken time with them, but as it was I felt we were at mach 2 speed here. And the only romantic conflict is a very lame "secret" that she has not told the hero, which comes to light during a cringe inducing scene toward the end.
Not bad, but I couldn't help but think it was a big missed opportunity.
Although I liked the book, if I didn't make mention of two major issues, I would be doing my fellow IRR fans a huge disservice.
The first issue is the poor editing. If the author would simply pay to have a hard copy of her novel printed off, and allow an anal-retentive English major to make the necessary corrections, in my opinion, the book would sell.
The second issue is the cover. If the author were to find a talented Fine Arts student with at least 6 credit hours of Graphic Design classes (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc), she would be miles ahead in selling her book.
I have had this book on my kindle since December. This is Ophelia and Heath's story. Its a tender, loving story about two people falling in love. Heath is every woman's dream, putting his woman and her needs first above everyone else. There is plenty of heat in this story for those of you who love that in your stories. I thoroughly enjoyed readinh this story!
Ms King what a wonderfully loving story. Heath was such a smoldering Mountain Man. Ophelia was a very likable h. Very sweet and very sexy tale. Ms King I'm a committed fan of your writing. I will be reading all of your books going forward.
A beautiful, uncomplicated romance. No topsy turvy hijinks or unnecessary misunderstandings/miscommunication, just a straight shot of love sure to leave you yearning for some country.
I really enjoyed this book, while reading the excerpt I was skeptical but glad I downloaded the rest of the book. Where can I meet someone like Heath ;)

Ophelia and Heath were the Quintessential Couple. Love how the too came together. And as for her so called friend, who needs an Enemy when you got her and the Ex. Was overjoyed when he got put in his Place. A truly wonderful story which I enjoyed.
I love a good romance novels but not that many by a black author. This was quite surprising well written and left room for my personal thoughts about love and what a Real relationship could look like (sex excluded lol)
Liked both characters and the author uses the dual narrative to ensure the reader has an insight into both protagonists' thoughts. I also Liked their honesty with each other which can be difficult!! Great Read- though I am not sure about the anal sex scenes!!
This was a very good read. Ophelia left her Valley of despair, only to find love high in the mountains. And Heath was that Mountain! Love it and it's a keeper!
This book was my first by K.G. King. I liked the story line and the different interactions between Heath and Ophelia. I love me some protective male and that is who Heath is. The way he loved and made sure no one disrespected Ophelia is what most women want. There were some grammar error. It seems that a lot of that happens in these types of books. It would read better if they took the time to get someone to edit the books. I would read other stuff by K.G. King.
KC King gives us a relatively short story but packed with a powerfully sweet romance. Heart broken Ophelia heads to the mountains of Georgia when her love interest and her best friend betray her. She has a mishap on the way there and needs the help of reclusive Heath. He is everything she didn’t know she was missing. A passionate gentleman. Loved this story.
