Broken dreams and broken hearts – who hasn’t been there? How do we pick ourselves up and take a risk again?
This is the question facing Kattie Latour. A recent graduate of the Veterinary School in Clarksville, Mississippi, she is abandoned at the altar by her fiancé David, a fellow vet who is envious of her professional success. Best friend Lisa, suggests she get right away from the reminders of him, and from the embarrassed sympathy of her fellow students. Her godfather, Professor Templeton, Dean of the faculty, comes to her rescue and finds her a placement on the French government’s Wolf Project, 'le Projet Loup', in the Alcantour National Park, in the French Alps.
Kattie has spent her college vacations helping with the re-introduction of wolves into Yellowstone. However, nothing has prepared her for what awaits her in France. Not only is there something seriously wrong in the National Park, but she finds that her gorgeous but moody boss, Jean-Luc du Lamond, whose personal history matches her own, is sinking into a life of misogyny. He is reluctant to grant her any professional respect until circumstances force him to call upon her expertise.
Over 18 - The sex and love scenes, set against a backdrop of cruel winter beauty and man’s inhumanity to the wolves of Alcantour, are an integral part of the love story and serve to enrich the reader's romantic and sensual experience.
I loved this book. Multi-faceted, it took the reader into the lives of the characters in a believable way, as well as the fascinating and tragic life of the wolf pack struggling to re-establish itself modern in Europe. Well written and researched, the story will stay with me for a long time. As part of a series it has left room for further development, without it being an unbearable cliffhanger. Yes, I enjoyed it and want to know more about these characters. And it was great to meet up with Raoul and Joyce again!
I really got into the characters and how emotionally involved they got with the wolves. I loved how the story was about how we view wolves and what happens to them.
