Ruth Weiss was a German-born South African writer who focused on anti-racism in all its forms. She was a well-known anti-apartheid journalist and activist, exiled by South Africa and Rhodesia for her writings. She was based in Denmark and wrote in both English and German. Her historical fiction for young adults reflects her battles against racism in Germany and Africa.

True story of a blonde German WW2 orphan adopted into an Afrikaner family as an act of patriotism, despite the defeat of Nazi Germany. The first line of the book is, “History has a long future.” This is historical fiction - there were about 80 such orphans swept up by prominent Afrikaner families. Told by Ruth Weiss, a journalist/activist in the anti-apartheid movement who interviewed Nelson Mandela when he was on the run, prior to his imprisonment.

Ein Buch, das mich mehrfach zum Weinen gebracht hat. Es hat mir einiges näher gebracht und ist unglaublich gut geschrieben, auch wenn es mir am Anfang schwer fiel, mich rein zu finden.
