A nice synopsis about Taiwan. It is the Republic of China. It exists due to the conflict of two types of governments: one Capitalism for Taiwan and one Communism for People's Republic of China. Having taken a college class from a teacher native to the People's Republic of China, she did not like to be referred to as a Communist.
Taiwan has a beautiful national park called Taroko with the Taroko Gorge with the Liwu River running through it. Some of the animals there are the Formosan Rock macaque (a type of monkey), hawksbill sea turtle, flying squirrels, and the Formosan serow (a goat-like animal). The end of summer they celebrate the month-long Ghost Festival. The have many teas and they are all made from the same plant "camellia sinensis." A good book.

Taiwan by Lisa Owings in the Exploring Countries series explains the Geography, Landscape, People, Education, Recreation and much more of this interesting country. One of the things that readers will learn is how tea making and drinking is an important part of Taiwanese culture.
Very enjoyable, and I really recommend it.
