In this short story from #1 "New York Times" bestselling author David Baldacci, worlds collide when government assassin Will Robie is caught, along with Oliver Stone of the Camel Club in a crossfire.
Robie is closing in on his next target when he finds himself in the middle of a bank heist--and is taken hostage. Alongside Oliver Stone of all people! Is this just a simple bank job? Or are the robbers after something even more valuable, and dangerous, than the cash in the vault?
Librarian's note #1: the story is only available as an eBook or an audio book.
Librarian's note #2: there are five novels and a short story in the author's Camel Club series. They are: #1. The Camel Club (2005), #2. The Collectors (2006), #3. Stone Cold (2007), #4. I want to read the Camel Club series now because of these characters. They were amusing to read about along side Will Robie. Quick short story that only takes around an hour or so to read. The cross with Robie and the Camel Club for a bank robbery that is not exactly what it seems is actually pretty entertaining.
My quick and simple overall: not bad at all and it was a very amusing hour.
4 Stars for Bullseye: Will Robie, Book 2.5 (audiobook) by David Baldacci read by Ron McLarty.
I picked this short story up to see what this series is like. It’s packed full of action with some interesting characters. I’m really looking forward to starting the series from the beginning and getting to know these characters.
While this is a novella, the story does not feel rushed, despite its short length. I would have liked to have seen this story fleshed out more, but as it stands it's pretty good. It was great to see the Camel Club characters together with Will Robie in this book. Never read the books in that series, but now I want to!
Will Robie (US Government's "Stone-Cold" killer) & Oliver Stone (Camel Club) innocently go to a bank on Saturday & are caught in a bank robbery. 4 bank robbers take 10 hostages (4 bank employees + 6 customers) into a back room.
The robbers create a shaft to climb. Robie/Stone think they want fur & jewelry stores above. As 3 robbers climb the shaft, Stone/Robie convince & overtake the "sacrificial lamb" robber left behind.
Other Camel Club members arrive, Annabelle Conroy, Alex Ford, Reuben Rhodes, Celeb Shaw & Harry Finn. They determine it must be the expensive penthouses above.
Will Robie is one of my favourite characters, and always enjoyed the Will Robie and John Puller books.
But what was good was the clever idea, bringing in The Camel Book characters, which I have not read yet, really enjoyed the book and learning about these new characters.
First thing I did was order the first "The Camel Club" book.
A quick read, but well paced, action story and a great way to bring the characters together.
Probably a 3.5 stars but since that isn’t possible, I rounded up. It was great to meet up with the members of the Camel Club again. I’ve missed them. I don’t think I’ve read anything by Baldacci that I haven’t enjoyed and this was no exception. Can’t wait for the next adventure…
I'm not a fan of the Camel Club and their members are involved in this short Robie story. I suppose that if Robie needs their assistance in the future, they'll be available. 5 of 10 short stars
3.5 Stars. Having read and enjoyed the Memory Man series, but not the other thrillers by David Baldacci, I wanted to know more about assassin Will Robie. He appeared and played an important cross-over part in Memory Man #6.
This short novel was a good introduction to the Will Robie series and also to members of the Camel Club series of books. Amos Decker, the Memory Man, is in a bank when a group of armed robbers enter. The bank staff and customers are taken hostage and a bank guard is shot.
Decker and Oliver Stone, a member of the Camel Club, are shackled together. Stone manages to secretly call other members of his Camel Club for help. It becomes evident that the gang of apparent thieves are not there to rob the bank, but to cut through its wall into a shaft to climb to an upper floor on some deadly mission.
When the Camel Club members arrive, all sorts of action and chaos ensue. Decker and Stone join forces to help bring down the intruders. This novella was too short to get some of the characters sorted out, but served as a valuable introduction to both Robie and the Camel Club.
A short story in the Will Robbie series by author David Baldacci.
Will Robie is caught up in the middle of a bank heist when he is taken hostage alongside Oliver Stone. What at first sight seems to be a bank robbery at closer examination appears to be something even more valuable.
A short story that merges two series by this author in an entertaining read. The characters are already well known to regular readers so makes it more enjoyable. Decent read but I do prefer full length novels.
A short & quick paced action thriller which will keep you hooked till the end. It will also introduce you to characters like Will Robie & The Camel Club (each have a separate book series of their own) and will make you want to read more of them.
4 Stars. They've never met. Oliver Stone, leader of the Camel Club, and Will Robie, government assassin. Two of Baldacci's great characters. Is it purely by accident that they end up in the same bank on a Saturday in Georgetown, a suburb of D.C.? Although they don't know each other, Robie has heard of Stone. The presence of Stone seems above board. He's depositing his meagre weekly cheque from the cemetery where he lives and works as a maintenance man. Stone and Robie are among the last customers to slip in as the bank is closing. There's a small group in ski-masks who enter right after them and proceed to kill the older security guard to the horror of staff and customers alike! Handcuffed together, Robie and Stone quietly assess each other. Each asks himself, 'Who is this person who knows so much about criminal activities?' They deduce that the robbery is not your average one, after-all, the gunmen ensure that the vault is shut within the required 15 minutes of closing time! What then was their plan? Soon the rest of the Camel Club are involved. The short story is only available as an eBook and I found the answers on my new Kobo! (December 2022)
Quite weird that this turned out way better than the second novel, considering that this is just a novella. Makes me want to read the third book asap, but Reel being one of the main characters again is quite repelling to be honest.
A re-read. Wonderful. A combination of the characters Will Robie and Oliver Stone/The Camel Club crew. What appears to be initially a bank heist turns into something more sinister. A great, plausible, intriguing plot. With a great ending.
Another average action thriller from Baldacci. I would rate it on par with the 'The Hit'. Bullseye is a novella that has its main focus on a new group of people while Robie is ostensibly the hero. It will be interesting to see if this eclectic group makes it appearance in the main storylines.
Well, I'm very familiar with the Camel Club and Robie, but I had the feeling that this was just written from the file of his "maybe we could do something with this undeveloped story" file, while we are not coming up with anything else. I felt like I was late to the parade and only saw the floats going back to the barn.
A great short where Baldacci intermingles two of his series. The Camel Club, a crew that have specialized skills that when combined make them unparalleled at stopping crime and Will Robie, a gun for hire that the U.S. government occasionally employes for high stakes operations.
When Oliver Stone, (Camel Club) and Will Robie find themselves in the middle of a bank heist, they must combine their skills to stop the perpetrators. As too much time passes and the thiefs start acting peculiar, the two men start to realize that it may not be what it appears to be on the surface.
An exciting, fast paced story that even though a short did not feel rushed. Great narration.
This is a short story in the Will Robie series by David Baldacci. I'm usually not a fan of short stories or novellas, but I liked this one. Usually they aren't developed enough to catch my interest. I'm glad that wasn't the case here. This one stood could be read as a stand alone. It was detailed enough to pull me in. Plus, I've always liked Will Robie as a characater. So 4 stars.
In this all new short story from best selling author David Baldacci, worlds collide when government assassin Will Robie is caught in the crossfire with Oliver Stone and the Camel Club. Will Robie is closing in on his next target when he finds himself in the middle of a bank heist--and he's taken hostage alongside Oliver Stone. But this is just a simple bank job, or are the robbers after something even more valuable--and dangerous--than the cash in the vault.
This book is a very good story, and this short story is a lead in to the next book called "The Target." It is going to be a very good book and they will blend together very well. It has been far too long since we have had a new adventure by the Camel Club.
So Oliver heads to deposit his check. Being the professional he is, he plans his arrival near the close of the bank. Sliding in right after him is Will Robie, who he doesn't know but did notice this man had to be following him. Oliver realizes that Will is a professional but thinks he has been sent after Oliver.
While in the bank, four come in dressed in black and with masks. First thought is that it is a robbery. If only it were as simple as that. Will and Oliver realize that it is far more than that. Oliver is able to steal back his phone and contact the Camel Club who come to their aid.
Will, a professional assassin for the U.S., is on a job.... it is just not Oliver. Will Robie is an interesting enough character that I will continue to read Baldacci series. Highly Recommend.
A great mash-up of two successful series Baldacci has groomed over the years. When Oliver Stone and Will Robie end up at a bank branch simultaneously, what begins as a simple Saturday afternoon soon turns ugly. A bank robbery commences and they are both taken hostage, along with a handful of others. Before long, it appears that the bank is only a ruse and that the robbers have a larger target. With the help of The Camel Club, Stone and Robie uncover something much more sinister than neon purple exploding dye packs...
Always a fan of authors who use crossovers in their novels, as a gift for dedicated readers. What a treat to see Robie and the Camel Club cross paths in this short story. Some chracter flaws emerge that the reader may not have noticed in the full-length books, which only adds to the greatness. I hope that Baldacci, and some of his literary friends, adopt more of this theme in their future books, as the outcome is always more entertaining, as long as it's done correctly.
Kudos, Mr. Baldacci. I am eager to sink my teeth into some of your future books and hope you consider more crossovers soon.
Quick listen on audio. Will Robie meets the Camel Club -- love the Will Robie series of stories, but not sure the Camel Club intrigued me enough to listen to one of Baldacci's stories featuring that team. Just OK for me -- 4 out of 10.
What a delightful tasty tidbit of a book. Fast action, excellent plot and never a dull moment. Love the misdirection. And on top of all that Baldacci puts Will Robie and the Camel Club together. It is a must read.
Having read all the books in David Baldacci’s Will Robie series, including his latest, The Guilty, realized I had missed the novella, BULLSEYE (Will Robie #2.5). The audiobook was exceptional and narrator, Ron McLarty delivers an outstanding performance.
With assassin Will Robie, Oliver Stone and Camel Club collaboration-- is like having the thrill of Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller team up in the same book The Crossing.
BULLSEYE, a fantastic novella! David combines wit, humor, and action--with my favorite Baldacci characters in one suspense short thriller. A bank heist! Is there more than just a bank robbery? When everything is not as it appears.
Stone (old school), a cemetery manager is at the bank (no online banking or ATM), a robbery and Robie and Stone get caught in the middle. Being a former bank manager for years (my son still is), always love bank robberies (in fiction, not reality).
Entertaining. Well-crafted. Give us more of these—crossovers: Good stuff.
All my heroes in one jam packed fun novella. While the short story, serves as a prequel for The Target #3 (Will Robie/Jessica Reel) which I had already read; however, it was worth getting some great laughs with all my favorites.
You have to read THE GUILTY- The best thus far in the Will Robie series landing on my Top 40 Books of 2015. I am hoping for a movie adaption of The Guilty, and Memory Man.
I greatly enjoyed and have deeply missed the Camel Club books, but Oliver Stone and the Camel Club are back in action in this short story by David Baldacci: "Bullseye: An Original Will Robie/ Camel Club Short Story." I am not usually a fan of short stories, but when I saw this was a Camel Club, I had to get it. Not only does Baldacci give us the Camel Club, but he also combines his newer popular hero Will Robie into the story. "The Bullseye" is very well written, and it has a clever and well developed plot. It is definitely entertaining and worth reading.
Oliver is heading to the bank to deposit his check, when he believes he is being followed. Stone plans his arrival near the close of the bank, and the stranger slides in right after him. The stranger is Will Robie, and they both quickly find themselves in the middle of a bank heist -- and they are taken hostage alongside bank employees and a few others. Oliver Stone. Oliver Stone and Will Robie soon realize that they need to trust one another, and they must combine their skills. With the help of The Camel Club, Stone and Robie uncover a strange plot which is far more sinister than a simple bank robbery.
If you have not read a Baldacci book pick one up. They are filled with great plots, twists, and amazing characters such as Maxwell and King, Puller, Robie, and my favorites: Oliver Stone and the entire Camel Club gang. Baldacci is a master story teller and develops amazing characters. This story was exciting and it was a fast read.
It’s a shocker I know but I never read any of the Camel Club books (Gasp!). I am however a fan of the Will Robie books, the first one “The Innocent” was simply fantastic and impactful. “Bullseye” was a nice way to be introduced to the members of the Camel Club as one of them, Oliver Stone, crosses paths with Will Robie in this short story, which starts with a bank robbery but quickly turns out to be a more than that. Fortunately, Will and Oliver are at the bank as “clients” and thanks to their extraordinary abilities, they are able to save the day. As always, Baldacci’s writing is fluid and compelling. This novella is a nice and quick reminder to check out more of Baldacci’s work.
Audiobook - 2:02 hours Narrated by Kyf Brewer A short story combining the talents of “Will Robie” and “The Camel Club”. As a generalization, short stories don’t work for me but since I had read all of the Will Robie series and a couple of Camel Club, I thought it might work. It didn’t and it was barely worth the effort.
It is indeed a short story, but marked with the trademark tension and suspense that David Baldacci is known for. I wish he would write another Oliver Stone or Will Robie- my two favorite characters! Good plot! Fun read and quick read with an ending begging for MORE of Oliver!
