West Coast Holiday #1

Christmas in Tahoe

Rate this book
Silicon Valley actuary Ann Smith is an expert at calculating probabilities, but lately the odds haven’t been in her favor. Two years ago her fiancé died a week before their planned Christmas wedding, leaving Ann heartbroken and alone. When a friend suggests heading up to Lake Tahoe for a long Christmas weekend of skiing, wine, and relaxation, Ann thinks it might be just the thing to help get her life back on track. But Ann’s plans go awry when her friend cancels at the last minute, and Ann ends up driving to Tahoe with Chase Deckert, a sexy snowboarder who pushes all her buttons.

Chase Deckert is a man who lives by his own rules. A few years ago his business partner betrayed him by selling out their biomedical research for a quick profit. Chase left science far behind, and now spends his days snowboarding in Tahoe, wanting nothing to do with the dog-eat-dog world of Silicon Valley. Chase has closed his mind and his heart and only believes in one thing: fate. But fate seems to be in a giving mood, because joining him for Christmas is a brave, beautiful woman who shows him the true meaning of the season and helps him rediscover a part of himself he’d long forgotten.

Fueled by the mountain scenery, the season, and their unbelievable chemistry, Ann and Chase end up learning more about each other—and themselves—than they ever imagined possible. Can one long, steamy Christmas help them realize they’re meant to be together? Or when the holiday is over will they be right back where they started?

A total Christmas Cracker!

Elisabeth Barrett is another of my 2013 discoveries. I have been blown away by every book that I have read, and her Star Harbor Series holds a special place in my heart. Every one of her books for me, encompass the essence of an exceptionally talented writer. They are well written, always offer something different from the last one, and provide you with colorful and interesting characters. The vibrancy of her descriptions whether it be person or place, make everything so easy to visualize, I literally lose myself in her stories.

Christmas in Tahoe is no different, although a little shorter and more a novella than full book, it is a beautifully descriptive and heart-warming tale of love lost, and love found.

Ann and Chase come together quite by chance, and what is supposed to be a weekend away with friends to try and get back into the Seasonal spirit turns into one hot and sexy encounter after another. Ann describes Chase as a “mountain man”, with dark hair eyes and a beard from that point on I had Henry Cavill in my head and it was all systems go for me.

This is one sexy book, but I expected it to be, Elisabeth writes good sex, but the Christmas vibe is strong and runs through the story beautifully.

I loved Roxy the dog, the one or two shots of humour in the story were hilarious (the spa incident especially). It is written dual POV as well which really works as you are given the reasons why both Ann and Chase are in Tahoe, and what they are both trying to avoid on an emotional level by being there.

I have no hesitation in recommending any of Elisabeth’s books, but if you are looking for something seasonal, this is a must-read in my opinion.

ARC provided by the author through Netgalley, and it is my pleasure to provide the above honest review as thanks.

LOVED IT !!!
Title: Christmas in Tahoe
Series: West Coast Holiday
Designation: Book One of Series, Novella, Standalone, Contemporary Romance
Reading Platform: Kindle Edition
My Rating: Five Delightfully Entertaining Stars*****
What a wonderful surprise! I received this story as a newsletter freebie offered by one of my favorite authors with no obligation or expectation to review. I was in the mood for a holiday read and decided to dive in. Best decision ever! This was my first time reading the work of Elisabeth Barrett, but it certainly won't be my last! I'm completely smitten with Barrett's engaging prose, vividly depicted locales and descriptions, easy to follow storylines, endearing characters, and heartwarming romance. It was perfect for a leisurely afternoon read. And for such a short read, I found the story to be exceptionally well crafted and the characters to be surprisingly well developed. Although Christmas in Tahoe can certainly be read as a standalone novella, I fully intend to read the other books in the series. Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am but only for adult readers. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! ANd finally, was I entertained? Completely! If you enjoy lovely, heartwarming holiday reads with a little (um... better make that a lot) of steam, then you should certainly give this book a whirl!

Christmas in Tahoe is a holiday story about two people who have suffered lost. The hero Chase was betrayed by his friend and business partner, as well as his girlfriend. The heroine Ann lost her fiance to an aneurysm.

Their friend Mandy had asked Chase if she and Ann can spend Christmas in Tahoe with him. There was a change in plans at the last minute, when Mandy could not drive with Ann to Chase's place. Luckily he was in the SF Bay Area, so she asked him if he could give Ann a ride instead. And from there, their story unfolds.

I enjoyed the author's description of my hometown the SF Bay area. I especially like the setting in Tahoe where I have spent the winter and summer as well.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A sweet holiday romance. Chase and Ann have both been hurt and think they are happy with the life they are leading. Bought together by a friend they spend the holiday weekend in Tahoe and find that they are not really as happy as they thought but they can change that if they are willing to take a chance. This is a great read with really lovely characters and lots of emotions.

Sign me up for one of Chase Deckert's snowboarding lessons, please!

I don't know about you, but when the holiday season is in full swing, I tend to be in the mood for some romantic holiday reads! Christmas in Tahoe was everything I wanted, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I truly enjoyed this novella.

Ann Smith is still mourning the loss of her fiancé, who had passed away around Christmastime a few years back. It's been hard for her to move on, and understandably so, the holiday season tends to not be a merry one. Ann and her friend make plans for a fun getaway in Lake Tahoe during Christmas, but at the last minute her friend can't make the trip and instead sends someone else to accompany Ann.

Oh, y'all need to meet Chase Deckert! He's one hunky snowboarder, and ultra SMART...PhD level smart! I find that combo in a man really HOT! Although bio-tech companies are after his research, there's a huge reason why he left Silicon Valley. He was all set to spend Christmas alone until a friend asked for a favor. Once Chase gets to know Ann, he realizes she's no plain Jane! She totally surprises him that she can handle her skis, and they continue to have a fun time together.

The setting in Tahoe was delightfully written. I felt like I was transported to the top of the snowy mountain with Chase and Ann. It's a perfect place for romance to blossom. Ms. Barrett also injects some local San Francisco Bay Area flair into this story, which made me smile! Chase and Ann are two broken souls. I love it when people get a second chance at happiness! Christmas in Tahoe is sexy, smart, and filled with the perfect amount of holiday spirit! Roxy, the black lab is adorable, too!

Hotness Rating 3 out of 5

Christmas in Tahoe is a great Christmas read for anyone that is looking for hot, sexy, emotion-filled fun. It's the perfect book for curling up in a chair, wrapped in your favorite blanket, drinking a cup of hot chocolate, and just letting the world slip away.

Chase Deckert has been burnt by the business world and he is done with it. He's brilliant and has so much to offer the world, but he can't deal with the money hungry dirty side of it all. He left his Silicon Valley life and moved to Tahoe to teach snowboarding.

Ann Smith is determined to get her life back. Her fiance' died one week before they were to get married and she's grieved for him. But, it's been 2 years and she has to move on if for no other reason than to save her own sanity. Her life revolves around the worse-case scenario, heck it's actually what she does for a living, but none of that stopped tragedy from ruining her life. At the urging of her best friend she's decided what better way to get through this Christmas than to escape to Tahoe for skiing and relaxation. The problem is her friend has been caught up in a work emergency and has sent her friend Chase to get Ann to Tahoe and to keep her company until she can make it.

Chase and Ann were so fun. I loved how they helped one another through their issues with the world, but never got bogged down in unnecessary drama. The sparks between them sizzled. Believe me when I say this is a great holiday read and you'll be happy you gave it a read.

Christmas in Tahoe was a wonderful read. Honestly, the blurb for the book gives a very good summary for the book. Ann Smith and Chase Deckert are two people who have each lost their way in life.

Ann was supposed to get married to “the love of her life” on Christmas Day, two years previously. But he died a few days before. Every since then, she has just been moving through life and not living it. Chase is a man of science. He was once a world renowned scientist, specializing in discovering a cure for malaria. Unfortunately, he put his trust in the wrong people. Now, he has turned his back on science and the Silicon Valley itself.

Ann and Chase are brought together when Ann’s best friend bails on her and asks Chase to take Ann to Tahoe. The idea is that the friend will join them after she finishes up some research. When that doesn’t happen, Ann and Chase spend a magical time together getting to know each other and to their surprise, falling in love.

Ann’s career and life is in the Silicon Valley. Chase hates the area and the games the companies there play. Once their Christmas vacation is up, the two have to figure out what they are willing to sacrifice for love.

Ann Smith is recovering from a huge personal loss. So far she's just been trudging a long only living but looking for the way back to life. Her fiance died suddenly 2 years ago right before Christmas when they were supposed to get married. Instead of a wedding it became a funeral. How do you recover from that? Chase Deckert is also recovering but from a very different situation. Chase was a scientist and when his business partner stole all his research on Malaria and ran with it he decided he had enough and retreated from life to slopes in Tahoe. He wasn't in it for the money he just wanted to help people. Brought together inadvertently by a friend right before Christmas when Chase gives Ann a ride up to Tahoe to share his cabin sparks fly. This was a great read. The characters felt real. Chase is so gentle with Ann but finds out she's the tough one not him. Even though she's scared she doesn't let it slow her down or keep her from doing things she wants to do. Chase is stuck in a rut. When Ann offers more at the end of their time together will be let go of the past or run? I was on the edge of my seat wondering what he'd do. This book was a delight from start to finish. An emotional and satisfying read!

Christmas in Tahoe was a great holiday read, but I think that the spirit of the romance could be enjoyed any time of the year. The magic between Ann and Chase is apparent from the instant they set eyes on one another. Whether they are playing, loving, or just talking through their past hurts together, you can see that they understand each other and the deep connection between them is undeniable. The passion between them was certainly an integral part of the story, but the emotions they explore together; the building of their relationship, while fast was meaningful and believable—which so many shorter romances are not. I would love to see an epilogue or maybe a connected story down the line, because though I know that Chase and Ann have found their HEA, seeing them again would be great since they were such enjoyable characters. I haven’t read many of Ms. Barrett’s stories but if they are all like this, I will definitely be reading any future stories I can get. Thanks for an awesome holiday fix!

Ann Smith, an Actuarialist, has been having a hard time with life for the past two years since her fiance passed away right before their Christmas wedding, especially during the Christmas season. When her best friend Mandy has to delay coming on their trip to Lake Tahoe for skiing, Ann is bummed. Mandy says her friend Chase will drive her up there and she will come in a few days. Ann tends to over analyze things and isn't sure she wants to travel with some guy she doesn't know but she ends up going anyways. Along the way they run into all kinds of issues but Ann decides she is going to be brave and come at them head on.

Chase Deckert lives life by his own rules now after his previous business partner screwed him over. He tends to spend most of his time in Lake Tahoe snowboarding and even giving lessons. As Chase and Ann spend more time together, things start to heat up. When ghosts from their pasts start to creep into their lives, Ann and Chase needed to decide if they were going take that leap of faith to find something that may be the best thing they've had ever known.

I really enjoyed this fun, heartfelt story. Both Ann and Chase are sweet, really nice people who have had bad things happen to them in their past. It was great seeing them get past their demons to find their happy ever after.

This book has been sitting on my Kindle for quite a while, and I decided to give it a try to get in the Christmas spirits. It did just that.

Ann has lived for two years, stuck in a rut, not knowing how to move on after she suffered a great loss. Mandy, her friend arranged a Christmas getaway in Tahoe, hoping that Ann will finally come to terms with her loss.

Chase has left Sillicon Valley behind after being betrayed by his business partner and his girlfriend, now his ex. He was content, but didn't know that he wasn't happy until he got to know Ann.

Chase has made his life in Tahoe and enjoying life in its natural environment. Chase and Ann formed a strong connection during the holiday period, but when it was over, they had to go their own way. Will Chase be brave enough to take a chance at happiness and take the opportunity that he has been offered?

This is a Christmas romance where two broken souls find themselves and embark on a journey they didn't realise they needed. A well written and love story.

Christmas In Tahoe is an entertaining Christmas story by Elisabeth Barrett. Ms. Barrett has delivered a well-written book. The characters are phenomenal and my favorite part of the book. Ann is trying to get her life back after the death of her fiance. Chase is a scientist whose business partner cheated him out of his work, so he left science and is now a snowboard instructor. With a little help from a mutual friend, Chase and Ann are stuck together over the Christmas holiday. Their story is a fun read. There's a little drama, a bit of spice and my favorite, a dose of humor. This is a fairly quick read (or maybe I just couldn't put it down), a perfect choice for those with limited reading time. Christmas in Tahoe is book 1 of the West Coast Holiday Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read a free copy of this book that I received from Instafreebie.

Christmas in Tahoe is a perfect holiday read. This is the first book by Elisabeth Barrett that I have read and it won't be the last. Her characters are well developed and interesting. Both of the main characters have been hurt recently and this book could have come across as sappy and maudlin but Annie's inner daredevil brings the story to a whole new levels. After two years she has to move forward from her fiance's death and a trip to Tahoe just might do the trick. Chase and Roxy are a pair and even though Annieis allergic to dogs she is willing to try. The chemistry between the main characters is off the charts and as they no e towards their HEA ending you really will be rooting for them.

Christmas in Tahoe by Elizabeth Barrett was a quick romance to read! The main characters were both left by significant others. Ann by her soon to be husband dying suddenly and Chase by his best friend and business partner. Ann forced herself into her work and led a very quiet life with lots of tears. Chase left and went to Africa for a time and then came back and moved into his family’s home in Tahoe and became a skier. It was fate - in the shape of a mutual friend Mandy - who helped them meet. From there everything just turned out - with a few moguls in between for them to go skiing and get close. Then things get a little stickier. Do you run or do you try again?

Christmas in Tahoe by Elizabeth Barrett was a good read.

Lovely story set at Christmastime about two people still recovering from big changes and heartache in the lives. Ann is a young woman who is still recovering from the death of her fiancé. Chase was burned by a close friend bothnpersonally and professionally. Watching Ann find herself after being part of a couple for so long, is very heartwarming. Chase, whom she meets when her friend Mandy cancels out on meeting her in Tahoe for the holiday, has some recovering of his own to do. Watching their story unfold was wonderful! A great holiday story!

Enjoyed this story of Ann spending Christmas in Chase's Tahoe house when their mutual friend bales last minute on them. Nice believable chemistry even though they get together very quickly. And how many times do actuaries and science researchers star in romance novels?

While not completely believable, I enjoyed Christmas in Tahoe.   We start with two people who are stuck in their lives.  They let go and have a great vacation and holiday together which allows them to see new possibilities.  I loved the skiing, the conversations and the holiday cheer. This is the start of the West Coast Holiday series, which I can see myself continuing as I like this author and the quirky cast of characters in this world.

ps: Goodreads is seeing this review first, but you will have to wait if you are a lover of the screenshots. As explained in italic, above (this part will get deleted as soon as new info is added!)

West Coast Holidays series begins with a very cute story of a woman drowning in grief and in need of a restart, and a man running from himself with the best view of the world, or so I am told. Oh, wow, this sounded super depressing, but it’s the reality of this volume.

Although my intro might lead you to feel depressed over this book, fret not. It was sweet, fun, and there’s a dog that I wanted to pet every couple of pages. Anyways… here we will have Ann Smith, a very beautiful talented woman of numbers and probabilities off to spend Christmas with her best friend in the mountains, but things already begin a bit off. Her BFF, Mandy (which will have a book all for herself next), has to work and she will be late for the Xmas reunion — in her place, she sends her best friend, a male, Chase to pick her up. Chase — or Decks—, and Roxy (the dog!!!!) are picking up an “uptight” gorgeous woman to spend Christmas with. You can see where this is going, so here’s a bit of background on Chase. He’s been burned by his BFF in business and personal lives at the same time, and as a response, he’s off to live in the mountains of Tahoe lake teaching skiing to tourists and whatnot. They will both be taken by the other, they both don’t want anything to happen, and wanting at the same time… and eventually, drunk at night, things happen. A 3-day friendship and romance will blossom immediately after that, and a few % of this book will be crossing obstacles and believing in themselves and their feelings.
I’m not a huge fan of a weekend rock hard romance, but it was a light, funny, laidback read

Ann just wants to spend her Christmas away from everything that she has been living with for the past two years. She needs a new start and this is the year she's determined to achieve it. But when her plans start to fall through, starting with her ride to Tahoe she falters in her determination at first but pulls through in the end. She can't help but be drawn to the handsome stranger who has come to pick her up. Hell, she can't even resist his dog and she's allergic!

Chase is doing a favor for a friend but the instant he enters the range of Silicon Valley he's apprehensive of what he's going to find. He knows how 'these people' behave and all they aspire too and he's not looking forward to the long drive ahead with one of 'them'. But he's never been one to deny the truth. And the truth is that Ann intrigues him. He knows there's a story there and so much more. He's as eager as he's uneasy about what he will find.

I loved, LOVED this story!!!

Not only did Elisabeth Barrett did a wonderful job in drawing me into the story with Ann's voice and her story, she had me intrigued immediately with Chase's story too. I loved watching them getting to know each other. Both had their walls up high and tight but as their time together increased I could see how affected each one was because of the other. They wanted so much more than what they had, but their fear kept them back from pursuing anything - at first.

I so enjoyed Chase and Ann's interactions. Some where emotional, some were tender and all of them entertaining. Their easy camaraderie was one of the first things I loved about them and as their emotions came into play I loved watching them let go with each other. Of course, I also enjoyed their reluctance and their doubts about what they wanted. They were all well-founded and that just added to the appeal of them ending up together.

I have to congratulate the author because she managed to deliver a heart-felt story that was sweet, funny and HOT! I thought that Chase and Ann's chemistry was fantastic and it only became greater as the story continued and their emotions came to the surface. I enjoyed watching them let go of their inhibitions with each other and just enjoy what was developing.

I'm not usually a fan of the insta-love concept and although this had the makings of one it felt completely different. There was the development of their connection, shared moments both intimate and emotional and lots of laughter. I could easily imagine them in the cabin lounging around, skiing the slopes and cuddling before the fireplace. I loved it!

All in all, a fabulous romantic read with emotional undertones, sizzling chemistry and two complex and interesting characters.

I don’t know what it is about author Elisabeth Barrett that makes me want to curl up and shut out the world when I’m reading her books. I always get so wrapped up in her characters, in the world she creates for them, and the issues they face and I always want to be part of their inner circle. They seem real, they seem like fun people to hang with, and I want to be their friends; such is the case with Ann Smith and Chase Deckert from Christmas in Tahoe. Two very likeable, interesting, quirky and messed up individuals who wind up spending the Christmas holiday together when they are stood up by their mutual friend, Mandy.

I was amazed at how easily the friendship and lust fest came for these two, but I liked that it was mutual, that there was a lot of respect for one another, and that they were both pretty upfront and honest about where they are in their lives and their not so pleasant pasts. There was no BS, no games, just two adults enjoying each other and the Lake Tahoe slopes. I found it so refreshing and love how easily they slipped into each other’s lives.

I loved that Ann despite her background was willing to accept what she was feeling and go forward. I like that she stepped out of her comfort zone and showed him that he didn’t have her pegged. Chase really surprised me from the start, he was so protective of Ann and concerned about her comfort. I had to admire the fact that once he realized her background he respected the strong woman she is.

While there were a few moments that almost broke my heart, one involving his dog, Roxy; Christmas In Tahoe is a feel good holiday story but it’s also a super sexy love story about two people ready to leave their past hurts behind and move forward. I can’t say enough good things about this book or this author. If you haven’t read Elisabeth Barrett, now is the time to start. If you have, what are you waiting for? Get your copy now!

Elisabeth Barrett gets readers in the holiday spirit with CHRISTMAS IN TAHOE. A sweet and sexy novella set in Lake Tahoe, you can bet that this story will have you grinning from ear to ear!

Ann Smith made plans with her friend Mandy, but unexpectedly, a good-looking stranger shows up in her place. When Annie learns that her friend will be a no-show for their holiday plans, Ann then decides that this stranger named Chase Deckert might be a good way to save her trip. In their long, but sexually heated drive to Lake Tahoe, sweet banter and sizzling tensions rise until Annie realizes she doesn’t want to fight it anymore.

As a fan of Barrett’s writing, what I enjoy most about her work is the fact that she creates such likeable heroines. Annie’s character has her flaws, but in the span of pages, she does from Silicon Valley actuary to a fiery seductress who goes for what she wants.

Barrett also pairs Annie with a sweet and endearing hero in Chase. What I enjoyed most about his character was that he never tried to force Annie to do something she wasn’t ready for. Any development in their relationship came naturally and it’s actually quite interesting to see such progression in a novella because you don’t have a lot of words to play with. But I found that Barrett handled it nicely, creating a sweet, but also very sexy romance between Annie and Chase while also injecting readers with a cheeriness that comes with all Christmas stories.

Sweet and sexy – this little novella has what it takes to appeal to the masses.

Christmas in Tahoe is a wonderful way to get into the Christmas spirit!!

The holidays are always hard on Ann Smith. This year she made plans with her friend Mandy to travel to Tahoe for some skiing and relaxation. Anything to get her mind off of the loss she carries with her. Two years ago, Ann was suppose to have a Christmas wedding. Prior to that day, her fiancé passed away - leaving Ann heartbroken and lonely.

As Ann realizes Mandy is a no-show, she decides to go ahead on her adventure. Mandy sent Chase Deckart to take Ann to Tahoe. This sexy stranger makes Ann’s temperature rise…something she thought no longer existed.

The duo embark on their trip to Tahoe. Weather hampers their travels. They find themselves snowed into a neighboring town, their departure delayed. Once they reach Tahoe, Chase shares his love of skiing with Ann. The duo enjoy days of skiing and nights spent learning more about each other.

Chase closed off his feeling long ago. The cut throat world of the Silicon Valley has left him retreating to the serene life in the mountains. The days he has spent with Ann have chiseled away the hard exterior wall around his heart. Leaving him feeling things he no longer thought existed within him. Will the duo find their short lived romance fizzle after the Christmas holiday?

This quick holiday read will leave you with warmth in your heart and a smile on your face.

Christmas is for special memories, but Ann can’t get away from what Christmas was supposed to be two years ago. She was set to marry the love of her life and days before she had to call all her guests to let them know of his death. Her best friend Mandy is determined to get Ann away from all the memories, so she asks a friend if they can stay with him for Christmas. Chase left Silicon Valley behind when his partner betrayed him. After a year in Africa he is back in Tahoe, and about to have guests for Christmas.

A great Christmas read with characters you don't normally see in Contemporary fiction. Ann is an actuary. Chase a scientist who is devoted to finding a cure for Malaria. And Mandy the best friend is a scientist too. I love books with smart sexy people. Elisabeth Barrett books make me chuckle and have great romance too. Ann had some great personality quirks, and Chase is just a hero who can be smart but an athlete at the same time.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, go buy this now and enjoy it by the fire or your Christmas tree. I am hoping to see more of these characters in future Elisabeth Barrett books!

I purchased this book myself and this is my honest review
