Stalking is the least of Tyesha’s worries, until one of her social media “friends” starts showing up at her gym, at her job, and at her home. Soon tragedy strikes, and when detectives catch her stalker—and just as quickly release him—Tyesha is forced to take matters into her own hands.

Utter crap

If you enjoy poor grammar, inconsistent first and third person tense, glaring inconsistencies, and inadequate character development, you are sure to enjoy this book! The best things I can say about this publication are: it was free, and it was short. I wish I could have the hour and a half of my life back that I invested in reading this garbage. Which is really disappointing, as the premise of the tale had potential. This is an excellent example of why an author should do large amounts of research when writing, and employ honest editors for their work. This book feels like the author simply typed what was in their head without bothering to re-read the body of work. Giving it one star because zero isn't an option. Recommendation: don't waste your time.

I finished this book in just a few hours (over 2 days, while doing other things), but that's not a testament to the book's quality, just it's quantity: it's short.

The idea behind the book, that a woman is being stalked through her status updates on a social network, was a great premise. I got the book based on what it was supposed to be about, because I was really intrigued to see how this author would play that scenario out.

I was very, very disappointed, though. Here's why(in no particular order):

1. The dialogue: There was a lot of "yo" instead of "your", "they" instead of "their", etc. This annoys me in real life, and reading it in a book is no less obnoxious. The author should also keep in mind the old saying "a little goes a long way." We can determine that a French character is French with a mention of his/her accent and the occasional common French phrase thrown into conversation. That gives flavor. But using this "yo" and other things like that every, single time the characters (and not just one or two, but ALL of them) speak is monotonous, irritating, and quite frankly, makes me question the author's own intelligence.

2. Grammar: There was a lot of "get out the way", "get out the car", etc. Of is a small word, it's easy to spell, and if you're worried about word count, it's a good way to beef it up. "Get out of the way", "get out of the car" are proper, and much less annoying to read. Again, this is one where the author tried to give us a peek into the mentality of the characters, but went over the top.

3. Thin characters and poor development: Tyesha, the main character, is supposed to be sympathetic. She's a single mother of a 4 yr old daughter. As a single mother myself, I know the struggles, and I also know the joy that is adult interaction online when you can't find a sitter and get out of the house. I expected to really be on Tyesha's side, to understand where she was coming from, and root for her. This did not happen.

**SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT FORWARD**

Tyesha is beyond obsessed with the social network site, The Site. We would need to create a new word in the dictionary to truly describe her addiction to it. The girl is on there constantly, and it's obnoxious. As a single mother, I understand taking a minute here and there when you can get it to go online, read a book, whatever it is you want to do for fun. But Tyesha will come home, hug her kid and get online. She's playing with her kid, and her hand is twitching toward her phone, dying to go online. Her 4 YEAR OLD CHILD calls her out on her obsession! Tyesha needs a 12 step program NOW.

She's even going on there when she's just found out her daughter is missing. I'm sorry, but as a mother, if I just found out my kid is missing, the last thing I'm doing is posting on social networking sites. Yes, if the police tell me to post because it will help, I would do that, but my first thought would never be, "OMG, I have to post this online!" I lost any remnant of sympathy I might have had for Tyesha at that point.

By the end of the book, I did not feel that any of the characters had grown at all. There was a hint of character development in Rodrick, at the very end, but it was so minimal that I wasn't at all impressed. It certainly wasn't enough to make me get book two and keep reading.

4. Lack of research: As a writer myself, I understand that sometimes we can't find the information we need (interiors of government facilities, military plans, etc) and we have to simply imagine and hope that no one who reads our book calls us out and says we suck because we got it wrong. I also realize that as a reader, there's supposed to be a certain suspension of disbelief as I read. But there are limits to both of those, and the glaring errors I saw here are things that I cannot suspend disbelief on, and they are things that I have no doubt the author could easily have Googled and found what she needed to know - in fact, they are things that are common knowledge for most. First was when she wrote that Rodrick and Gideon became friends because they started cooking meals together to save money while in prison. Um...prison? Where they feed you? Where people always joke about wishing they could go there because they'd be guaranteed "three hots and a cot"? I don't know anyone that doesn't know that you don't even have access to cooking equipment in prison unless you work in the kitchen. Second was when Tyesha's daughter was kidnapped and the police weren't going to do anything for 24 hours. I'm sure the author has heard of Amber Alerts? Police do not wait 24 hours to begin searching for a missing child. Period. And in some areas, they don't wait to search for missing adults, either.

I finished this book, but only out of sheer determination. It was more a matter of I didn't want to be a quitter and give up on such a short book than that I actually enjoyed the book. It was a great premise, and with some work, the author probably could have made a great book out of it. But this time around, it was poorly handled. I don't think I'll be reading further books by this author.

3.5 Stars. When I initially started this book I was thinking...WTH?? It seemed a bit juvenile for me but as I read more I became very interested in what was coming next. It turned out to be a pretty good read.

An unoriginal idea badly executed. Hard to tell if it's written by an african american woman from 'the hood', or by a pastey white man who's watched too many episodes of mad tv and thinks poor 'ethnic' speech makes good writing. Either way, it's painful to read.

I received this book through Bookbub. Immediately, I went to Amazon to check out the reviews and my readers know I always start with the bad reviews and work my way to the good. Funny though, I wasn’t able to find many good ones about this book. However, having said that, the book was free, and, once again, I’ve mentioned to you that just because a book is cheap or free doesn’t mean it’s poorly written. Trust and believe I’ve read plenty of critically acclaimed books that weren’t worth the paper the words were written on. With that being said, this was not a bad book. Did I encounter problems with the story line while reading it, sure, but nothing that was so catastrophic that I was about to abandon the book altogether.

What drew me to this particular book was the synopsis. As soon as I learned what this was involving, I was sold. Even though this was a free book, I would have paid for it. Tyesha Fenty is your today's young woman who is a social butterfly and loves to update her posts every minute of the day. In other words, she was extremely “thirsty” for the “likes.” So imagine her surprise when she heads off to work one day and one of her Site friends shows up. She’s wondering how in the hell did this guy know where she worked? Hmm, could it be because she put it on her page. Not only did he know where she worked, he knew where she lived, where her daughter went to school, the man she was in a relationship with, etc. What angered me about Tyesha is how damn stupid she was. I was yelling at her while engaged in the story, “why not post your damn social security number and add your debit and credit card numbers on your post while you’re at it!” Wow!

This chick was so damn stupid I actually thought she’d do it. Hmmph, she was close enough! Her baby’s father, Rodrick Al-Bashir, reminded me so much of the character, Tony Soprano. For those not familiar with the old hit show The Sopranos which aired on HBO—Tony was a Mob Boss, murdering, robbing, stealing, and committing adultery per episode, but had the audacity to be a devout Catholic and trusted and believed in the Lord. That always blew my mind seeing as how his actions were nothing like his faith, and Rodrick was no different. Rodrick would cite Bible verses and advise every one of their wrongdoing, but he never saw the wrongdoing he committed. Let’s keep it real—selling drugs to your people damn sure doesn’t count as something the Lord would be proud of, in my opinion, which is why I mentioned the similarities of the character, Tony Soprano. I couldn’t stop laughing at how Rodrick would spout these Bible verses and yet, he’s murdering people and making comments on his friends’ pages boasting about his evil ways. Talk about inconsistencies. Hmmph! The more I read, the more I laughed because these two characters were just running amuck and completely out of control, which is why I believe many readers didn’t care for the book. But you know what, that’s what I enjoyed about it. For one, the author did a great job in bringing to light the dangers of social media. He also brought to the forefront how these sites lure you in and want you to put all your business out there, and then when you attract a stalker, which is what happened to Tyesha, one shouldn’t question why when you fueled the unwanted stalker. How can you get angry when you’re the one that put all your information out there for the whole world to see? How can you get angry when some of your supposed “friends” post comments to your constant updates, when you encouraged their involvement? What’s not to love about this story?

There were a couple areas of the book where I felt the author didn’t develop the story line fully—for instance, Tyesha’s mother, Velma. The synopsis suggests Velma was in jeopardy of losing her home, but, unless my eyes deceived me, which they’ve been pretty faithful thus far, I don’t recall anything mentioned about Velma losing her home. In fact, I had to go back and check to see if I missed something? No, I’m pretty sure I did not. Most authors who reach out to me to read their work know going in that I dissect the hell out of a story. If I can be critical of my own work, it’s a piece of cake for me to be just as critical of others. And trust me, I’m more critical of myself. I’m positive that section of the story wasn’t developed. Also, there’s an incident, which I can’t delve much into without giving away too much of the story, but I was very confused as to why more didn’t happen to a particular character? It was like he did something, and it went unnoticed. I know in reality this can be true, but that part of the story made me want to view more, and unfortunately, the author left me hanging. After I finished the story, I went back to Amazon to see if I missed something and I didn’t realize this story is part of a series. As my Intellectual Readers know, I absolutely hate series! Ooooh just thinking on that makes me crazy. I’m a one and done type of reader. That’s not to say there aren’t series I haven’t read. I’ve read plenty, but I do not like to start new series if I can help it.

Was this story good enough to make me want to read the rest. . .it was pretty decent, and if I have time, I may read the next few in the series. I would like to know what happens to Tyesha and Rodrick and see if they’ve grown up some and learned valuable lessons? Although seeing as how dumb both of their actions were in this first installment, I may not want to get my hopes too high? The story ended on a pretty decent note, so at least the author didn’t cliff us and force us to read the second installment. I absolutely abhor when authors do that. Makes me seethe inside and usually I will abandon that author’s work almost immediately.

Seriously, folks, this book was short, sweet and directly to the point. It had a few bumps along the way, but I really liked the story. It’s a subject near and dear to my soul because I’ve blogged about the dangers of social media many times over. Don’t believe me, go back through old posts and you’ll find the research and my personal experiences with social media. Being an author in this day and age, you must put yourself out there, but to be the ‘Tyesha’s’ of the world, I don’t think so. There’s a limit to what I allow my ‘friends’ to see—but what many people forget or just don’t give much credence to is the fact most of the people who request your friendship are people you do not know. These are not your true ride-or-die friends you grew up with from the hood. Or that old childhood friend from school you were neighbors with. And, even if it were, there should always be a limit as to what you allow others to see and know about you. I give Jordan Belcher a hell of a lot of credit for writing this story. A man after my own heart. He took what’s relevant today and made a pretty incredible story out of it.

In todays world Social Media is huge! There is Facebook, Twitter and many more sites that people log onto everyday and share their business. With Social Media people can be and say anything they want and often times things arent always as they seem. 22 year old mother Tyesha enty is a very beautiful girl and is addicted to The Site. Between taking care of her daughter, checking up on her baby daddy she is logged onto this social network at all times. She constantly updates her statues letting her followers basically know where she is, what shes doing, who shes with and everything else going on in her house. Tyesha finds no harm in it she just thinks she using the site for that purpose. She doesnt think that there would be stalkers or anything negative coming from it. That is until one of her followers starts showing up everywhere she is at the gym, her job and she even thinks shes seen this person at her home. When something tragc happens Tyesha is forced to evaluate her love for the internet and the people that may be following her. When she takes matters into her own hands to find what shes looking for she finds way more than she can handle.

Jordan Belcher dd a great job writting this story. This book was recommended to me and Im glad I picked it up and read it for myself. Tyesha just makes you shake your head as your reading the story like stop posting so much. The way it started off I was a little confused but once I caught on I was fine. I did see a few minor errors within the story as well. Other than that I enjoyed the story, the author did a great job at showing us how Tyesha was and also showing us the twists and everything isnt always as it seems. The story gave a very good lesson. STOP posting all your business all over whatever Social Network your on, its ok to share somethings but if you have people on your page you dont know then its not very wise because you just never know whose watching. Cant wait for part 2.

This book here had me caught from the first couple of pages. I couldn't stop reading it once I began. Us as women tend to sometimes go thru the most extreme situations trying to get our man to see that we are right for them. Some cases they will never wake up and the hurt/pain is not worth all the tears, lonely nights and embarrassment. Take the time to read this book I promise you it won't disappoint you.

Set in Missouri, Tyesha Fenty succumbs to the lure of a social media site, similar to Facebook. Obsessively posting status updates, she begins to attract unwanted attention from a stranger she "friended." Unashamed of her "addiction", this 22-year old passed up a scholarship to Clark Atlanta when she became pregnant, with a now precocious little Kylie.

While I have not rated this book with 5 stars due to grammatical errors, the story is pertinent for the young and old. In an era when people feel the need to "check in" on Facebook and tag their current locations in an Instagram post, the author shares several clear messages.

Embedded within the story, the attentive reader will see other themes sprinkled throughout. The author, while focusing on the main theme of safe social media practices, touches on relationship issues, effects of marital infidelity on loved ones, and the effects of religion on inmates.

Amidst taking care of Kylie, exercising, and working at the DMV, Tyesha clearly puts much emphasis on love and family. Unfortunately, her devotion to the man she adores, Rodrick Al-Bashir, returns void. Recently released from prison, Rodrick uses biblical statements to control those around him. He even prays over his recent marijuana shipment with his team. Worried that someone who frequently likes her posts, and those of Rodrick, Tyesha is determined not to let the man she loves slip away.

With the uprising of the street literature subgenre of urban fiction, many readers begin to expect gritty scenes of sex and violence. Belcher had a few violent scenes, though they were not typical of the subgenre. Combining the gritty slang of street literature and the edge-of-your-seat plot structure, Status can also fit into the mystery and thriller genre.

In retrospect, stalking, in and of itself, can be considered violent, where the term means an emotional, unpleasant, or destructive force. Sadly for Tyesha, she doesn't realize the seriousness of consistently sharing her location via the Site (the name of the social networking site) until the very stranger she friended shows up at Planet Fitness, her home, and her job.

While I enjoyed the book, I was not hooked enough to read the remainder of the series.

This book was very good and suspenseful. However, the beginning of the book was very confusing, it seemed like the author was rushing everything and trying to throw so many characters in at once. After a while, the book became more clear. But, the plot wasn't known throughout the book. I was so focused on the baby momma drama that I forgot the main point of this book is the stalker. If the stalker appeared more frequently throughout the book, I think that it would make it more exciting. On the other hand, this book had some twists and turns! The reveal of Ladykiller and the reveal about her best friend Deja was priceless. I was very surprised in those two characters, it literally swung my mouth open. It's so surprising because the reader would've never guessed! I downloaded this book for free off of Bookbub.com

I really didn't think I would enjoy this book, but it was good. These were some real down to the core people from the hood. I was shocked at the crime and who was at the helm. Shocked I tell you; because I really thought he loved her. I am a firm believer in being discreet with information you put out there on these social sites, because of something like this. I commend this author, getting his mind right coming right out of prison himself. He was able to depict what is probably happening somewhere. I was glued. I will go on to Status 2 to check out Tyesha and friends. Keep it coming Mr. Belcher.

Tyesha816 login name that you become quite familiar with as you read this book. This story pretty much enforce everything they tell you not to do on a social media website "Post your life"

The story is filled of social media posting, drama, and betrayal. The twist at the end of the story was surprising and the story was steadily kept out till the time it needed to be exposed. Frienemies was rampart and played a major role in this story.

Tyesha Tyesha, Tyesha smh.

Sooo I got this book for free for my Kindle. I had some time so I finally decided to read it. I enjoyed it but the main character Tyesha always mentioned there FULL usernames while talking about someone from The Site. 🙄 It’s a small thing it got on my nerves, plus she always said her moms full name too. Anyway....There were twists but nothing that SHOCKED me. I kind of figured LadyKiller wasn’t the kidnapper but her brother when she found that picture. A lot of loose ends to me and weird switching of POV. Gideon got under my skin too. “I know everything about you. I know you’re favorite chicken is honey barbeque. You hate horror movies. You can’t sleep with the TV on at night—and me either. You love romance and watching chick flicks with a bag of caramel popcorn. On March 19th, close to midnight, you made a post that you like men with short hair better.” - Like come onnnnnnnnn! You don’t know everything about here. “She’s a wonderful human being, but with dick-sucking skills that can only be described as extraterrestrial. And if you think I’ma give that up, you’re sadly mistaken.” - That made me laugh but its so extra. Anyway...If you want a quick read this is it. It kept me entertained during my breaks at work.

I gave this book 3 stars mainly due to the language while I don't mind swear words, the story contains racist word. I think this is mainly due to who the main characters are, outside of that there is many twists in the plot that will leave you Grayson what will happen next and when you think you know what exactly is going on, boom a turn and twist in the plot.

Definitely suspenseful. I really liked this book! My only flaw would be that in the beginning there’s a couple chapters that are in other perspective aside from the main character, and it switched without warning so it took a couple sentences before realizing you were reading from someone else’s POV. But really that is such a minor flaw, this book was very interesting and had me hooked!
