Reluctant psychic Katherine Crystal, dubbed "Crystal Ball Kate," is thrust into the national spotlight when she accurately predicts the death of a movie actor's young son in a private plane crash. Besieged by requests to use her powers to help others, she realizes why her parents had warned her never to let anyone know of her visions.

By-the-book Atlanta police detective Jack Hale harbors a deep-seated distrust of psychics and ignores Katherine's warnings when she calls to report her premonition. Jack is forced to partner with Kate, who uses her eerie sensitivity to evil to help him catch a serial killer in Sydney, Australia, but that's only the beginning of the story. Jack and Kate are drawn into the investigation of a mystery surrounding Kate's birth and find murder and romance among a secret society of psychics in the quaint seaside spiritualist community of Casa Spirito, Florida.

Jack doesn't believe in psychics. he has a good reason to feel this way. When Kate calls in to report that a child will be killed in a plane crash he doesn't believe her and ignores the call. He finds himself having to escort Kate to Australia to find the serial killer he is working on.

Kate can hold her own against Jack and soon they work well together and things get steamy.

I liked both Jack and Kate. I felt Kate had a good depth of character. she was sweet, Naive yet tough enough to not let Jack walk on her.

There were many twists and it seemed there were a few short mysteries in the book instead of one. The story kept you on your toes.

I listened to the audio and found it entertaining, kept me engrossed wanting to keep listening and the narrator had a good voice and was able to make the ladies voice without sound silly.
if you are looking fro a good, steamy mystery suspense this is a great story.

Sixth Sense by Marilyn Baron is an interesting tale about a lady who has visions, and a jackass detective who thinks all psychics are quacks.

Both Cate and Jack deal with a lot on this journey to find a serial killer, but what makes the hard stuff better is how much they learn about themselves.

I gave this book 4 stars because everything moved really quickly, and while suspenseful the answers were always obvious. Along with that everything was solved so easy peasy and I found that to be a bit of a turn off.

As much as the above mentioned things bothered me, I find myself wanting the second book, to see where things go. I could easily be done after Sixth Sense because it snd ties up and pretty, but there’s another case to solve, and so much more Cate & Jack to explore!

Lost patience with the smart alec hero

I wish the author had done a rewrite on the hero, Jack, because he's ruining the story for me. His non stop hating and name calling about psychics and mediums is relentless and makes it hard for me to understand why the heroine tolerates him, let alone likes him. He literally calls her a fake and a fraud to her face. Even when he gets first hand knowledge of her insights he still won't shut up about how it's all phoney.

Have you ever met someone and they thought they were hilariously funny when they weren't and could never take a hint? That's Jack. He's a boor. Knock it off and move on already.

"She hoped Jack wouldn’t continue the litany of psychic jokes and disparaging remarks he had regaled her with on the trip to Florida." Sorry, Kate, spoiler alert: he doesn't stop. He's rude, obnoxious and crass, and she comes across as a nitwit doormat for imagining them together as a couple while he's mocking her and putting her down. Here's a tip: He's not going to get any better. Do not mistake denigrating behavior for "just kidding, ha ha."

So - I can't stomach the H, can't respect the h for liking him and his asinine, abusive attitude. Could have been a good story if that character could have moved beyond his prejudice and they focused on solving mysteries. Too bad.

Psychic, Katherine Crystal, needs help from one of Atlanta’s finest. Unfortunately Detective Jack Hale doesn’t believe in psychics. After ignoring an initial call for help from the sexy psychic and leaving the Atlanta Police Department looking bad in the press, Jack is assigned to protect Katherine as she attempts to solve one of their most visible cases. When Katherine’s new found celebrity status brings out the bad guys, it’s up to Jack to keep her alive.

~~~
Sixth Sense can get pretty intense. Marilyn Baron really digs deep into the psyche of a serial killer. She also digs deep into the give and take of a budding romance. Jack and Katherine really have nothing in common. Both have trust issues that relate to the other’s profession. But if they hadn’t been forced to work together, they never would have found their true soul mates. Sixth Sense has a great mix of romance, spine tingling suspense, and real hope for two jaded individuals for a happily ever after. I’m looking forward to reading book 2 in the Psychic Crystal Mystery series.
This is a solid start for the series. There's plausible conflict between the hero and heroine. I liked Jack's doubts and his gradual turnaround in as he witnesses her psychic episodes. Baron sets up the series nicely for a mystery solving team and I like both.
The preview of Homecoming Homicides at the end was creepy and hooked me right away. It reminded me a lot of the TV show Criminal Minds. Now it's a must read.
this is a very good read, but, to me, it seemed like missed opportunity. there are many sub plots that could have been developed to two or three separate books...all of which could have stood alone. Recommended!!
Great conflict between the main characters--she's psychic and he thinks all psychics are fakes. Good pacing, kept me turning the pages. Can't wait to see more of Kate and Jack.
