When Savannah Jordan agrees to help her aunt while she recovers from a broken foot, she doesn’t expect to walk into a mystery, become part of a not-quite-legal surveillance team, be kidnapped by a deranged stranger and meet a steaming hot veterinarian. Beloved neighborhood cats are missing—the community can only guess at their fate—and Aunt Margaret’s life is being threatened. Is it because she has a clue to the missing cats or is it something more sinister?
If you like light mysteries with only a little terror, if you’re infatuated by interesting cats and if you love a love story, you must read this book.
Patricia writes two cozy mystery series. The Klepto Cat Mysteries and her newest series, The Calico Cat Mysteries featuring Olivia, a sweet and sassy calico. Patricia has been writing for publication for over 45 years, having been fortunate enough to establish a career doing what she loves. Hundreds--maybe thousands--of her articles have appeared in over 500 different publications and she has published books on a variety of topics--grandparenting, local history, youth mentoring, journaling and many aspects of publishing and book promotion. After years of writing nonfiction, in 2012, she decided to branch out and try writing fiction and the Klepto Cat Mysteries were created. The Klepto Cat Mysteries feature Rags, an ordinary cat with a most extraordinary habit--he's a kleptomaniac. Currently, Patricia is producing anywhere from six to eight books per year in both ebook format and in print. Read the Klepto Cat Mysteries and you'll laugh, you'll sit on the edge of your chair in suspense, and you'll smile at the good-feeling you're left with when you finish each book in the series. New in 2021, the Calico Cat Mysteries.
I was enjoying this book despite the rather simple writing and premise in parts, right until the romance kicked into top gear and the book ended on a sour note for me. Do I believe in love at first sight? Yes. Do I believe that means you should marry straight away and feel rushed into it by your partner? No. I felt like Michael was pushy beyond belief, especially knowing so little of his character. It was a major turn off in the romance department.
The mystery was good, but totally random? Not your usual excuse for murder and mayhem anyway. I used Kindle Unlimited to get this book and it's been on my to-read list for ages, but I think the final sour taste won't leave me and I don't really want to continue this series. Three stars up until the end so I stuck with that.
First portions of the story were well written. Sections held my attention. Rags, the klepto cat, was funny and a good character. I was disappointed as I was expecting a mystery. It is good description of animal rescue, both pluses & minuses that occur. The heartbreak of losing a pet. Story is of two Romances and was written well. I will probably read more of this series as it is a good start for this subject.
It actually feels more like aunt Margaret is the protagonist, Savannah just tags along. Too much focus on their families and private life, surprisingly not a lot about the cats (Sure they talk a lot about cats in general, but it could have used some more funny scenes with the house cats) I wanted more of Rags.
The way it's written is weird, the characters thoughts are on the page at the same time. A lot of romance for a mystery, and most of the dialogues I suppose were meant to be romantic just sounds odd (Like: "I'm a little sad to think that you were on this earth all this time and out of my reach.) There also are sound effects like "Knock Knock", "Screeeeeeeam!" and "Bang! Bang! Bang!".
They tell you they're going to get kidnapped both in the blurb and at the beginning of the book, but when it actually happens everything's over way too quickly. After about half of it I started skipping because it was getting ridiculous.
This is a cozy mystery dealing with lots of cats. I admit I am more of a dog person. Right now have two sleeping dogs on my bed and cat is outside. I still liked the story though.
I can't think how tough it would be to have a pet stolen. My girls would be so sad and depressed. Someone is stilling lots of cats. Taking them right from the car or even from some children. Their is not a lot the police can do to stop them.
A group of people who love and take care of cats are meeting to figure out what is going on. They are combing fundraisers together to help the problems in their area.
I like the characters. Especially some of the cats. They have different personality for sure. One of the main characters is Savannah. She has come to stay with her Aunt Margaret who broke her foot. It also gives her a chance to have a vacation from work to make some choices. Savannah is a veterinarian.
Margaret has been married twice. She works with Max at his cat rescue. She is hosting the group of people who are concerned about the cats. She won't let her broken foot slow her down too much. Someone is threatening her.
Rags is a thief and a snoop. He is a fun character all by himself. Lots of different facts about different types of cats and you really see the need to take care of your pets. Their are so many wild animals especially cats. I know their are a lot around my small town.
I can't imagine how hoarders of cats do it. Three pets is more than I want to smell and take care of. For those who work in rescue shelters thank you for your help.
The plot is good and keeps your attention. You do learn early who is doing the kidnapping. Their are some twist and turns that I was not expecting.
This is a clean read, lots of different relationships that you want to see workout. Some action, romance and mystery all combined to make a enjoyable read. Also wanting to come back and read the next book Cat-Eye Witness.
I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review of it by the author. Published June 8th 2013 by Matilija Press 198 pages ISBN:9780977357680
Savannah Jordan leaves Los Angeles, and her job as a vet technician, behind when her Aunt Margaret needs help after breaking her foot. Savannah takes her beautiful gray and white cat, Ragsdale, with her. Of course Rags starts trouble right away, especially with his problem – he’s a klepto cat. He steals anything and everything, including Aunt Margaret’s underwear.
She never expects to be thrown into the middle of a mystery but when beloved neighborhood cats are stolen right from their homes, Savannah and Margaret are right in the middle of the investigation. Not only are the cats in danger, but Margaret receives threats against her, too.
With the help of the entire town, they set out to save these cats and return them to their rightful owners.
Savannah also finds herself smitten with the local vet, Michael. As the two of them get closer and closer, they realize that their relationship will be difficult once Savannah goes back to LA. Neither one wants a long distance romance.
This is a sweet mystery and romance all rolled up into one story. Of course any story with lots of cats gets my attention and there were many in this one. The cover alone had me and I’m not usually one to fall for a cover alone.
It’s the first book in the “A Klepto Cat Mystery” series and it’s off to a great start. A cat that steals? Too cute. The story is well-written and fast-paced. The characters are well developed and realistic. There are some realistic situations, but they aren’t graphic and they aren’t dwelled on too much. It’s all done very tastefully.
I’m looking forward to reading book #2, Cat-Eye Witness. I can’t wait to catch up with these characters again.
What a delight this book has been! With characters who are deftly drawn, and cats who are "just" cats, the mystery drew me in, but it was the overall story that kept me wanting to turn the pages till the wee, early hours of the morning. I read this book almost in one gulp.
Now, when I say that the cats are "just cats," don't be fooled. They do not talk, nor do they have seemingly preternatural powers, but what they do have is fursonality and cattitude to spare, along with delightful quirks that make each one, and especially Ragsdale (AKA Rags), a delight! This is my favorite way to read about cats.
I canNOT wait to dive into the rest of this series! It is a keeper, and will remain on my shelves for years to come, so that I can revisit Savannah, Aunt Maggie, Michael and especially Rags over and over again!
While it’s good to get the word out about cat rescue issues, I already knew all that. And from what I know, I will say the decision to not mention ALL the reasons cats might be stolen was a good one. Some are so awful it would be cruel to tell someone whose cat has been taken about them. Then the mystery seemed like such a small part of the whole story that I started to feel bored, & then that made me feel irritated. The cat-hoarding couple part was just dropped, the reason for the cat-napping seemed feeble, there was no followup on the truckful of horses that were taken away, no confirmation that the guy the tractor fell on was actually dead, and what was the point of bringing in a PI if the amateurs aren’t going to pass on their info to him & in fact he’s never mentioned again after the meeting where he’s introduced (oh, except once to say they’re not going to tell him anything)!
When Savannah's aunt suffers from a broken leg, she visits her for a period of time to help out. Lttle does she know that she will be involved in solving not only the mystery of where all the neighborhood cats are going, but also who is trying to harm her aunt. She also manages to find the love of her life while there, but it takes a little doing to make her commit!
Unfortunately I was looking for a good mystery not a romance novel. The mystery takes maybe 10% of the book and is pretty poor. You have to wade thru alot of non-mystery stuff to get to the end of the mystery and have the cat save the day. Not my cup of tea.
I don't think that this book fits my definition of a cozy mystery. Part of it reads silly/fluff like and then you have some heavy scenes (attempted rape) and topics (animal abuse) discussed in this book.
I really like these cozy mysteries. They have you laughing until you have tears in your eyes and at the same time you have suspense, thrills and mystery.
Klepto Cat Mystery series where have you been ?? I cannot believe that this series has been out since 2013, has 23 books in this series and I have only just finished book one. Catnapped is the first book in this series by Patricia Fry and it is a GREAT start to this series.
In Catnapped you walk into a cat loving community that is being threatened. You meet Savannah who goes to stay with her aunt Margaret to help her out after she has an accident and breaks her foot. Savannah, Vannie to her aunt, is a veterinarian technician who has a cat, Rags, who likes to "borrow" things. Margaret, Auntie to Savannah, has a neighbor, Max, who has a facility next door where he rescues cats, takes in cats and treats them trying to adopt them out. And there is also a hunky hot veterianarian, Doctor Mike, that is all kinds of yummy !!!
Unfortunately someone is threatening Auntie by leaving notes on her property and maybe, just maybe the fall she took wasn't an accident. And if that isn't bad enough neighborhood cats are starting to disappear. Someone is stealing family pets ? Cats to be specific !!!
Auntie and Max belong to a cat alliance group and along with members of other cat related groups they devise a plan to look into the disappearance of the cats. You will see that once Auntie gets an idea in her head, nothing will stop her....not even death threats and a broken foot !!!
One word that can be used to describe this book is.....devotion. The devotion of the cat owner's to find their pets, the devotion of Vannie to her aunt, the devotion of the members of the different groups coming together to solve this case, and the devotion you begin to see between Vannie and Michael.
The only thing that you will have a hard time with when you read Catnapped is that it ends....and boy is the ending a GREAT ending. But then you just have to remember what I said in the beginning of this review ---- There are 22 more books in this series. So all you have to do is pick up Book two, Cat-Eye Witness and you are back hanging out with Auntie, Max, Vannie, Michael, Rags and the whole gang.....
Catnapped, Book 1 of the Kosovo Cat Mystery Series by Patricia Fry
Cat lover's will enjoy this twisty cozy novel about cats going missing from their homes, leaving owners in despair over what might have happened to them! Horses are missing too. Savannah Jordan, recent graduate of Veterinarian school, arrives to help her Aunt Margaret who is dealing with a foot injury as well as trying to investigate the pet thefts. Great characters, rescue group politics, a bit of romance, wonderful kitties who pop up amongst the pages; especially Rags, Savannah's precocious cat who is obsessed with taking and hiding objects from family, friends, neighbors, strangers!! I don't want to say more! ENJOY!!
Not really mysterious but a wonderful gentle read about family and the emotions that guide us.
Terrific gentle read. Not filled with fast paced action but filled with real feeling and a great little plot. Looking after her aunt as she recovers from an accident has our heroine involved in catnapping. Who and why? Our heroine likes everything mapped out for her and suddenly she finds herself having to step out of her comfort zone. Not only in her sleuthing but also in her love life. Not really mysterious but if you love family sagas with a bit of mystery than this is definitely for you.
I had been wanting to read this series for quite some time, but I could never really get into this book. There were a lot of things I didn't agree with --- if someone is shooting at you, you don't stop to roll up the car windows --- like that would help. You either get out of range or mow the shooter down with the car. The animal rescue people seemed blase about the whole thing. Not willing to put forth extra effort to make sure the stolen horses didn't get sent to slaughter, or even that they had water. Not sure if I'll read anymore of these...
Savannah goes to help her aunt who has broken her foot. She has brought her cat Rags with her. It seems there have been a lot of catnapping going on and Savannah and her aunt get a group together to find out who's doing it and to try and rescue the cats.
Cute story but written very simply. The romance was a bit rushed and I thought the rescue was a bit too easy. It was fun to read about the cat antics.
I liked the idea that the author is trying to bring animal mistreatment to light. This characters in this book were very well conceived. They were real and very interesting. The plot was a little harsh at times when animal mistreatment was being discussed, but I think the author was trying to get her point across so I did not have a problem with it. Enjoyed Rags the cat who stole things to hide for his later enjoyment.
Not quite sure if this is in the cozy mystery genre or not. I thought it would be because a cat is involved but parts of it are far from cozy.
Enjoyed this very much, so much so that I bought the next book in the series. Enjoyed the characters, didn't guess the ending which is a nice change. Hope to read more of the series.
I enjoyed this mystery sprinkled with romance. I like the characters, except for the villains. Savannah is a veterinarian. Her Aunt Margaret is my favorite character who is determined to find all the stolen cats. Rags is the adorable klepto cat. There is danger and some violence.
The first in a long running series, Catnapped #1 is a cozy mystery with not one--but two--romances. The characters are sweet, with realistic lives, the pace is moderate, the premise is good. There were cats throughout the book, and I look forward to getting to know them as well as I know the klepto cat. This is a clean, sweet book.
This book had its moments: illicit cat trafficking, whirlwind proposals, evil men in flannel. Get the full unabridged review on our podcast: Episode 1 of Purrder, She Wrote!
If you love cats and mysteries...you'll want to read this book!!! It's a fun read and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time I read it. I hoppe everyone enjoys the series as much as I diid.
I enjoyed reading this book. The Klepto cat is hilarious and a "guard cat"of his parents. There are parts of the story that will have you rolling with laughter. I would highly recommend this to people who are cat lovers.
I do most of my reading when I first get in bed. The only problem is I don't want to go to sleep. I just adore Rags, Sir Klepto himself. The books are well written and entertaining.
Cats and mysteries go together like PB & J. Lovable cats, a good mystery and some funny scenes. What more do you want? Well, there is also a beginning of a possible love story. A winner in my book.
Very little of this stuff was believable. A licensed DVM working as a technician? For minimum wage? SERIOUSLY??? The horse and cat thefts were weird and not realistic, either.
Excellent , well written. Characters are well thought out and developed. The book points out many problems of cats today in a story. Enjoyed it immensely.
