When sixty-eight year old Sarah Miller moves into the Cunningham Village retirement community, she is mourning the loss of the husband, her young grandson, and the place that has been home for forty-two years.
But Sarah is a survivor. As she reaches out into the retirement community that is to become home, she finds friends, activities, new hobbies, a possible love interest, and of course, crimes to solve and murderers to track down.
In this installment, Sarah and her friends go on a quilting cruise, where they find a gambling debt gone bad, a missing passenger presumed dead, and a touch of romance.
Includes instructions for the featured cover quilt.
Book 3 in this fabulous series, Sarah is on a quilting cruise with the ladies from Running Stitches.
Sarah's life is changing, she is finding new opportunities and meeting some amazing people. One of the best things about these cozy mysteries are the characters we get to know.
This is a descriptive read, following Sarah on her cruise, and I was transported to the ports and the Caribbean islands and felt as if I was cruising alongside her.
With Charles by her side she meets many people, some of whom are quite strange, and when armed Police officers board the ship and the passengers are told that they cannot leave the ship things get mysterious.
A missing man, the FBI and even Charles gets to do a little digging,
Once again this was a fun read, and I really didn't expect the twist at the end. Quite unique and unexpected.
I think the quilt pattern included in this novel is my favourite so far. the SunBurst quilt is a wall hanging and the colours are amazing.
This is the first book by Carol Dean Jones that I've read. Obviously, since I took less than 24 hours to read the entire book, it held my interest. The characters are well developed but rather shallow and easy to predict. A very minor subplot was developed, quickly solved and did not seem to have any importance to the rest of the story. The final solution was swift and unforeseen. (The 'bad guys' were exactly who I suspected they were but the way the crime played out was a welcomed surprised. Even with a preview of the next book in this series to entice the reader in the back of the copy I read, I doubt I'll read another novel by Ms. Jones.
I enjoyed this story. The descriptions of Puerto Rico and At Thomas were incredible. One criticism.....You wrote that Jason's son died at the age of eleven and would now be eighteen. However you said Jason's wife left five years after the child died. Three years after that Jason filed for divorce. The he met Jennifer, married her and is now awaiting the arrival of their child. Please someone fix that in the book. I reread the passage several times to see if I misread the passage.
Third in the series, the writing has slightly improved, but it is still not up to par. The characters and plot, however, continue to pull me in. And the quilt theme is definitely a draw. I've been wanting to try a quilt cruise and that is the setting of this book. I was glad to see the author show the challenge of learning machine quilting because Sarah tends to learn new techniques very quickly.
The mystery is also pretty interesting, though I thought the part about Sarah's cousin was a bit contrived.
One mystery solved even before the real story begins! It was unnecessary and was never given a real resolution but it was solved.
I enjoy the quilting parts of the book that seems to be about all. Sarah has to grow up (she’s in her late sixties after all) and stop behaving like a fickle 17 year old. And Charles needs to speak up to what he wants.
I’ll probably more of the series just to see how things turn out but I think I can predict what will happen.
Sarah goes on a cruise with her quilting buddies from the Running Stitches quilt shop. There is an issue with gambling gone bad on the ship and someone goes missing. This is simplistically written but has a paper piecing pattern in the back. My own quilt group is reading this book and doing some of our own paper piecing.
This was the third installment of the series. I like how this one turned out. It was different and very entertaining and I have to say I didn't see it coming. I lobed that the place changed and we were given different scenery to read about.
It bought back memories of the Love Boat and that was fun too.
If your like me and love a great cozy with characters you will love and a story you read past bedtime than Carol Dean Jones books are for you I'm glad I found them getting the next one now
This book has one mystery solved by the middle of the book where another one starts. The second mystery only tangentially intersected with the first mystery. I don' like the constantly shifting viewpoints. The characters are not interesting. The plots are not well developed.
I am enjoying this series. Book number 3 finds us going on a cruise with Sarah and stumbling onto a mystery. I love to cruise myself and dream of a quilting cruise - so this was fun! Looking forward to the next book in the series for more quilting and adventure!
This series has not disappointed. I love the characters, their age and their spunk. I will continue reading about the experience and lives in these books.
Another great quilting cozy! I have read all four in this series and found each one an entertaining read.
This book was an especially good one! It involved the quilting and mystery as usual but added in a quilting cruise. I've always wanted to do a quilt cruise and the author made it sound so good, I am ready to schedule one. :)
We met some new characters in this book from the cruise. The romance between Sarah and Charles is moving along slowly. I hope they will have a wedding in a future book. There are actually two mysteries in this book, one before the cruise and one while at sea. The author added some good twists that I was surprised when the mystery was solved. Didn't see that coming.
I, once again, highly recommend this book if you are looking for an exciting read.
Sarah decides to go on a quilting cruise and talks her boyfriend, Charles, and a lonely woman from the retirement home to go with her. The cruise has 6 days of quilting classes, three days of island tours, a strange couple, a man paying attention to her friend and her Charles, an ex cop, being suspicious of several people. When the FBI comes on board ship they are all wondering what is going on.
