Dolphins: Amazing Pictures & Fun Facts on Animals in Nature

Rate this book
Bestselling children’s author Kay de Silva presents “Dolphins”. The book uses captivating illustrations and carefully chosen words to teach children about "the acrobat of the sea."

This series is known as one of the most beautiful on the kindle. The pictures look great even in black and white and are excellent on the full color kindle. The description in the large text beneath is simple enough for early readers or for a parent to guide a child through.

There are also picture captions that provide more information to talk about with your child. Alternatively, a child of any age (even the child in you) can just look at the images and appreciate their beauty.

This book depicts the wonder of the world of Dolphins in all its glory. Children are given a well-rounded understanding of this beautiful its anatomy, feeding habits and behavior. The following Dolphins are
* The fun-loving Atlantic Spotted Dolphin
* The loveable Bottlenose Dolphin
* The acrobatic Dusky Dolphin
* The energetic Pacific White-sided Dolphin
* The shy Risso’s Dolphin
* The endangered Amazon River Dolphin

Kay de Silva created the Our Amazing World Series with the premise of creating beautiful, fact-rich books, written in simple words that kids would love to read over and over again.

The series is based on themes of animals in their natural habitats, with a strong call to appreciate the role that each living creature plays in making our world the abundant and fascinating place that it is.

Kay practiced as a lawyer for some years before moving into corporate communications. She left the career rat-race behind to bring up her two children; a daughter of seven and a son of five. She and her family live in Melbourne Australia.

"It's so rewarding to hear of the delight that my books bring to young readers. Equally thrilling are the messages from parents who say 'Really? I didn't know that."

She'd love to hear from you too, and can be found on:

1. How to Speak Dolphin by Ginny Rorby

2. I chose How to Speak Dolphin to go with the fact book because it is a fictional story that not only includes a dolphin, it includes a little brother that has autism. I believe that with autism becoming more prevalent, that students should be given the chance to read and understand more. The little girl and her brother go through the struggles of understanding autism, loving and animal and then trying to do what is right. This book is a more challenging subject but it will open students' eyes to a different world.

3. The Dolphin book is descriptive in nature but can also be compare and contrast. The book is set up by different sections about different types of dolphins. The book also compares some of them as it goes along. The pictures are amazing and if a child just wanted to look at the pictures and read the captions it would be just as entertaining.

4. I would want my students to examine How to Speak Dolphin and use a problem and solution framework. I would want them to pick a problem from the book, predict a solution to that problem, and then find that solution or solutions to that problem (Fountas, I.C. & Pinnell G.S., 2006, p. 186). The students can then find where at in the story the solution was made visible and why or why not it was successful. The students will not only learn a whole lot about dolphins, they will learn about people that are different than them and what kind of struggles they face every day.

I never knew I liked dolphins so much. They are very cool to read about. I enjoyed learning about them and was slightly shocked to learn some stuff about them that I never knew until now.

Getting to know Dolphins

I found this book to be very informative as well as having beautiful colored illustrations of these mammals. I believe that anyone who wishes to learn more about these dolphins without having to spend a lot of time getting familiar with them would find this perhaps very suitable for their needs. My answer for why I voted to offer this book five stars can be found in the above sentences. Great work Kay! I am writing a fictional Childrens' book dealing with pufferfishes, dolphins, moray eel and a poisonousness Goldfish...

This is a delightful book for 5—to 9-year-olds (and adults). It has lots of colorful photos, and the information shared about dolphins is interesting and entertaining. My favorite two facts were as follows. Baby dolphins stay by their mother's side for up to six years. Also, Amazon River Dolphins live in river water and are pink; they have a hump instead of the usual dorsal fin.

Adults and children will enjoy this book. This is another great book by this author.

This is a children's book and though I'm not on a path of regression, lol, I do enjoy reading some of these books. You'd be surprised how much you can learn.

And so today, while waiting in line for hours to get a transaction done, I decided to read this book and now I know lots more about dolphins than I did before.

Nice!

I chose to pair this book with the fiction book, Into the Blue. The non-fiction book contains beautiful pictures and lots of interesting facts on dolphins. The fiction book, Into the Blue, is about a young girl and her family. They sail around the world and research different dolphins while having a variety of adventures. I thought students would enjoy this pairing because the non-fiction books gives lots of pictures and information while the fiction book is an interesting adventure of a girl and dolphins.

Perfect introductory read on dolphins, appropriate for early primary school (year 3). I would have liked to see more information on the many types of dolphins, but otherwise the sections of the book were very logical and short (in a good way, they were an appropriate length). The simple and compound sentence structures were perfect for young readers. This book is so fun though you will want to join in to read as well.

BEST READ!!

Hi my name is Audrae and I'm eight years old. I have read this book and I found this book to be one of the best reads yet! I loved the color pictures and learning about the dolphins, such as the father dolphins are called bull's, the mother's are called cow's and the babies are called calves.
I would recommend this book to anyone!

Happy reading!

This fact filled book had facts that even I didn't know. The information was informative and would make a great resource for a report at many grade levels. I never knew a dolphin kept half of its brain awake while sleeping and can also swim while asleep.
