I have to admit I'm a sucker for the hole bad boy undercover cop and mob princes love story. I know it's been done and redone but I love the hole forbidden love stuff.

description

Mateo is an undercover DEA agent with a bad ass reputation, set out to revenge his brothers death and get off the streets a dangerous new drug called O that makes men act crazy and commit vicious sexual assaults. What he doesn't plan for is actually liking the daughter of the man that's behind it all and having to marry her in a very very very very fast ceremony.

description

Sophia is the daughter of a drug lord and even if she acts all innocent (and in some regards she is very innocent) she still is a little bad ass when necessary and knows how to take care of herself. She is just blinded by the love for her *evil* father and her need for his approval.

Their happy marriage is short lived because the truth starts to unravel and everything Sophia knew to be true is in fact a lie and she is forced to chose between her husband and her father.

description

But in the end love prevails because heck...this is still a HEA novel and I wouldn't have it any other way.

description

Enjoy! :D

A good, easy to read story, with some interesting plot elements and solid background, but something didn't quite work for me, mostly from the character aspect.

The truth is the book is ok, the plotline is very compelling and suspenseful, but i couldn't warm up to any of the main characters at all, they seemed so one dimensional and unlikeable. I ended up liking Javier more than Sophia, or Mat and that's kind of sad.

Mat although initially comes off assholish and weirdly entitled later on he becomes a very good lead male, but Sophia was a lost cause from the start and she ends up getting worse by the minute, the naivety she proclaims is so fake and the whole story with her father is disgusting, he wanted to marry her with a child abuser but that's ok with her? She even believes that her father is just a shrewd bussinessman? Really?

I can not beleive the whole my father is the head of the biggest mob in the world and i'm a simple kindergarten teacher, but they tried to kidnap me countless of times and my father installs cameras inside my room and there is no problem with that, act. Seriously someone would have thought of grabbing her from her work place at some point, If she was a good and responsible person she would have never put children in such a dangerous position.

The story in few words goes like this, Mat is an undercover DEA agent trying to take down the powerful and vile Alexandar Dumas, when he ends up married to Sophia the mobster's daughter, he tries to save her and still destroy her father, but in the process he will lose his own heart..

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK

- Some disturbing scenes, like their first time.
- Don't get me started with the whole European heritage (from France this family in particular) they are so proud of, it's such an irrelevant detail, that ends up sounding weird.
- Mat was very hot.
- I found what Javier did very honorable for Sophia's cousin.
- Dual POV.
- Alexandar Dumas was a monster.
- I liked the ending.

****Full Review****

3.5 stars

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Sophia lives a very sheltered life as she comes from a very old world “we are descendants from royalty" father. As the last surviving heir, her father has become very controlling and demanding she marry the man of his choice. Sophia knows her father is a very powerful man but has no idea he is the head of a drug cartel that is producing a dangerous drug called "O". Wanting one night of freedom before she is forced to marry a man of her father's choice, she goes to a nightclub where she meets Mateo Juarez. Mateo is really Mat, a DEA agent but currently undercover as the "Widowmaker” and working to take down Sophia's father and stop production of the O drug. When these two meet, lust and desire explode between them and suddenly Mat's mission has now become protecting Sophia. It's all drugs, sex, and danger that will keep your heart racing in more ways than one.

This is fifth in a series and I don't know if it continues where book four left off or just the nature of the way this story starts but I did feel like I was playing catch up for the first few chapters; very thrust into the action without knowing or having connection to the characters. After a couple chapters with the author doing a credible job of establishing Mat and his mission I was able to settle in and get into the story. The high drama and outlandishness of powerful drug cartels, a drug that turns men into rapey savage beasts, pure virgin daughter, forced marriage, undercover identity, false severed head, and blood feuds definitely kept me interested but gave me the feeling of an over the top Spanish soap opera. The story is unrealistic but entertaining and the real reason you're going to read this story is for the sex scenes. They are scorching and abundant, sex scenes are the main course here with the drug cartel and undercover business side dishes.

Sophia was kind of an unbalanced character with her wavering between innocently naïve about her father's business, stupidly blind, meek, and finally to fighting strong. Sophia is also, weirdly, a school teacher that seems to have no purpose in the story except for trying to further perpetuate her sweetness but ends up adding nothing to the story and character. Mat was a sexy dangerous protective dominate male but his hidden past pain wasn't discussed until the very end, so he didn't come off as complete a character as he could have been. Together though, these two really work and wonderfully them setting the sheets on fire is the main focus of the story. These two have some delightfully heated teasing and full on sex scenes, their bedroom antics are the real star of the show. The scenes aren't lengthy but as I said abundant and definitely get their point across.

The ending and the wrap up to the suspense arc was greatly rushed, Mat completes his mission but I couldn't help feeling there were some unanswered questions or they were poorly answered. I'm also not sure I completely buy into Sophia and Mat's happily ever after outside of the bedroom. This book is more to be read for people looking for a little suspense action with their sexual exploits. Sworn to Love is a brief, brisk, and well written story that if you come for the sexy times you will not leave disappointed.

Quick & Dirty: One hot dark and dangerous DEA Agent and a cartel princess!

Opening Sentence: “After two years building his rep as the “Widow Maker,” an independent contractor who killed not only for the government but for the everyday working stiff when justice failed to deliver, undercover DEA Agent Matthew Kane, known on the street as Mateo Juraez, had his next target in sight.”

The Review:

Let me start off by saying that I have not read any of the other books in the series. Having said that, this series is definitely one you can jump into without having to read the others. That of course is super good for me as a reviewer! Okay, if it had been one that you had to read the others, I am the type of reader that would stop and go read the previous books first. Now to get down to business, Sworn to Love focuses on hot cop Matthew Kane, aka Mateo Juarez. Mateo’s first order of business is to take down Javier Bertram. We find out rather quickly that he fakes Javier’s death and takes him into custody despite a desperate need for revenge. Javier murdered Mateo’s brother in cold blood, and he is also engaged to Sophia Dumas, the cartel princess!

Now we have the beginning set up. Mateo gets to work taking Javier’s place and initiates a meeting between him and Sophia. There is an instant connection between the two of them. From there this is a fairly typical romance novel, except this one has murder attempts, dangerous drugs and one bad ass girl saving the boy! I really did enjoy this book, it was super easy to read and a quick one too, almost feeling more like a novella instead of a book.

It was action packed and fast paced, with plenty of sexy time thrown in there. Despite its length, I really didn’t feel like there was more sex than action. There really was a good balance of plot, danger and sex. I am intrigued enough to go back and read the first four novels! Unlike other cop novels or police procedurals this book wasn’t bogged down in endless detail and descriptions, the author was not trying to make a legit case. I do enjoy those books too, but sometimes if the author isn’t careful you can lose a reader if it gets too boring. Karen Tabke clearly doesn’t have that problem, she did throw in evidence and details, but she didn’t get overwhelming with them.

I also enjoyed Sophia, and by that I mean as a character in a novel this short you would almost think that you can’t quite connect with the character. She rocks though, you really get to know her, the love she has for her father, the disgust she has for his business. The sense of hopelessness she has with her life, her fears and even the hopes she has for the future if she could have a future. Sophia really made the book enjoyable. I know we are supposed to be hung up on the hot cop, but Sophia was the real star of this book. So get out there and check it out!

Notable Scenes:

“Mateo was a firm believer in sticking close to the same lie with everyone so when they compared notes there were no discrepancies.”

“He was blindfolded and tied at the wrists and ankles to a chair.”

FTC Advisory: Simon & Schuster provided me with a copy of Sworn to Love. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

If you enjoy Karin Tabke, you'll enjoy the book for what it is . It was an absolutely enjoyable read and will keep it in my library to maybe read again.

But it feels like something is missing. It felt like there could of been more to the story. It felt like there needed to be more, more action, more details, and more intimacy between the main characters (not necessarily the sex, even though that wouldn't be bad)

ah...it needed more depth.

Mateo is a DEA agent who is assigned to infiltrate the Dumas drug cartel. He'll do whatever it takes to get his foot in the door, even if it means marrying the drug lord's daughter, Sophia, whom he had only just met. While they feel insta-lust and can't keep their hands off of one other, they have a hard time trusting each other's motive. When the organization starts to crumble, Sophia is forced to choose between the life she's always known and the new reality that she faces.

First and foremost, there is a scene where Mat and Sophia break up a gang rape. While the scene is not in the victim's POV, the details are a little bit graphic.

This story had potential; the synopsis had me expecting so much more than I received. What I got was roughly 180 pages of sex with a few fight scenes sprinkled in. Unfortunately there isn't much going on aside from that. I love reading romance novels and have no issue with sex scenes, as long as they have a good balance with the action and romance. This is not the case in Sworn to Love. If you like stories that lean more toward erotica, this is a good book for you, as Karin Tabke's detail can set a page on fire. She's quite talented in that space. However, because Mat and Sophia were so busy having sex, there wasn't any development to their emotional relationship, which makes their feelings for each other seem unbelieveable. Because the lust between these two characters practically takes center stage, I didn't really feel a suspenseful buildup. Suddenly we reach the climax of the book, but if you blink, you'll miss it, its over so quickly.

There were a few things that I had a hard time getting past too. Their first time together sexually is quite disturbing and I can't help but wonder, given the circumstance, how were they even turned on? Sophia's innocent and unconditional devotion to her father is completely eye rolling. If she could have a secret apartment to escape when things at home became too stressful, why couldn't she just leave permanantly?

With all that being said, I did like the author's easy writing style. If I can find a longer novel of hers, I'd hope for a deeper development in all aspects. Because this book is on the shorter side, I'm willing to overlook my frustrations and give her another try.

My thanks to NetGalley for the pleasure of reading and reviewing Sworn to Love by Karin Tabke.

Matthew Kane is an undercover agent who will do whatever it takes to infiltrate the Dumas cartel. The head of the family, Dumas, has a lovely daughter Sophia. She will be his ticket to getting into the vicious cartel and shutting down the drug O that has been flooding the streets.
Sophia has been extremely sheltered her whole life. She is the only remaining child of the Dumas legacy and is expected to agree to an arranged marriage and bear children immediately. She does have some measure of normalcy which surprised me considering her position. She teaches kindergarten in Mexico. Sophia escapes one night to enjoy an evening at a club. While there she meets Mat, going by his undercover name Mateo. The two have immediate chemistry and it is smoking hot. This books is highly sexual.
The drug cartel hierarchy was interesting to learn about. Something that was bugging me was why the cartel would be in Mexico if they claim French heritage. But it still provides a fast paced and engrossing plot. The violence is quite extreme in this book but probably very accurate. Mateo is an extreme version of the alpha male. He is full of swagger and can back it up with the goods. His name on the streets is 'the widow maker'. Highly sexualized and a stone cold killer, Mateo is on a mission to solve his case and to make Sophia his.
While I liked the sexy scenes, the first one where Sophia and Mateo must consummate their marriage was rather unpleasant. I won't give away what happened, but it wasn't what a bride wishes for. Right after she loses her virginity, Mateo is using her like a seasoned sex expert, not a deflowered virgin. I found it hard to believe. While the heat between the two is palpable and exciting, I think I would have believed it more if the sex had not started off so extreme.
Mateo and Sophia are really into each other outside the bedroom as well. Mateo wants to get Sophia away from her father and safe, but he struggles with the fact that she still believes in her father. Mateo knows the vicious creature her father truly is - he's a devil.
The culmination of the story is fast paced and nerve wracking. This was a fun story to read. Suspend belief and you will enjoy the fast ride between Mateo and Sophia.

Sworn to Love by Karin Tabke is book 5 in her Hot Cops series and a new author discovery to me. I hadn't read any previous titles so I did feel slightly out of the loop at first but Karin's writing style soon had me fully engrossed in the story line.

This book follows DEA agent Mathew Kane an undercover assassin called the 'Widow Maker' with a street name of Mateo Juarez who is on the hunt for the Dumas drug cartel leader Alexander Dumas, who sells the new drug O, among other things, that induces the user to rape; as it possess their mind and makes them like a savage beast. His lead is the drug lords daughter Sophia, a kindergarten teacher, forever one to please her father as she's his only surviving relative and eagerly agrees to any of his plans. She has agreed to an arranged marriage to keep with family traditions even though it's not what she desires.
On her last night of freedom, before forever being wed with a psychopathic future husband her father has selected, she has a passionate encounter with a dark handsome stranger in a club. Unbeknown to her, this encounter is not a coincidence but a lead to a bloodbath engagement and sudden wedding with a Mateo Juarez.
In the aftermath can Sophia find her real self in escaping one horrible marriage by jumping into a marriage with Mateo, or will her father's fractured cartel expose Mateo's real intentions and expose his true identity and ruin their life before they even have the chance to savour it? And what happens when you carry out your duties but the lines between duty and reality blur as Mathew discovers when his marriage of convenience becomes something worth fighting for.

This is a great romantic thriller with added suspense and plenty of sizzling scenes and some dangerous and violent elements. It's based in the Americas so has a definite high drama soap opera feel to it, but it's one addictive read.

DEA agent Mateo Juarez infiltrated the Dumas drug cartel’s compound and his whole mission is to erase the entire organization. What he didn’t count on is falling for Sophia, who is head of the family’s daughter. Sophia will be his ticket to getting into the vicious cartel and shutting down the drug O that has been flooding the streets. Mateo doesn’t want to use her but he will to shut down the drugs that are in the streets killing innocents.
Sophia has been extremely sheltered her whole life. She is the only remaining child of the Dumas legacy and they expect her to agree to an arranged marriage and have children by that marriage. She actually does have a job teaching kindergarten in Mexico. One night, she decides to “break free” and go to a dance club. There she meets this sexy man named “Mat” who we know as Mateo but his undercover name is Mat. They throw sparks off each other and the chemistry is white hot.

The story is fact pacing and easy to understand and get drawn into. Mateo is super alpha male. You want him to dominate you in every way. His name on the streets is 'the widow maker'. Deeply carnal and a flawless killer, Mateo is set on his calling to solve his case and to make Sophia his for life.
There are twists and turns in this story , especially with how nerve wracking at times this story got , just know to hang on for a bumpy ride. Mateo and Sophia are a great couple and are an awesome couple. There are times I wondered if they would have their HEA but I will say, tune in and you wont regret this story. I really loved it and cant wait to read more from this author

Mateo Juarez is a man on a mission in more ways than one. He wants to avenge his brother's death and he needs to infiltrate the Dumas crime family. He has become his cover, a skilled deadly assassin. After capturing the right hand man of Dumas, he has his in finally.

Sophia Dumas is the Dumas princess. Her father's only heir and bargaining chip. Her father has offered her hand in marriage to his right hand but with him gone, he then promises her to one of two men. One a pedophile and the other a serial killer in waiting. Sophia has always been a good, dutiful daughter, despite her father's attempt to give her to the most disgusting men.

When Sophia's latest pleas to her father go unheard, she decides to take up her friend's suggestion to have a night out on the town. She wants one night for herself before she has to marry a monster. She meets Mateo and the chemistry is off the charts. Later, when she realizes he's become her latest suitor, she thinks that she'll use Mateo like he's using her.

I've always enjoyed Karin Tabke's books in the past and this one wasn't bad either. It just wasn't everything I remembered her book being. The suspense was okay but not great. The sex was hot, sure enough but in the end it was just okay for me.

Wow. Just. Wow. I can't believe I have never read any of Karin Tabke's books before. I love romantic suspense, alpha males in uniform (or out), and strong female leads who can stand on their own without a boatload of snark. This book has all that. Plus some. On top of all that, it provides mile a minute, white knuckle suspense that kept me glued to my reader. The cherry on top is the price. As a voracious reader, that is always a factor for me. Is it perfect? No. There are a few cliches and the ending is a little hurried, but the book is better than 90% of the books I've read. So on my next shopping trip, I'm buying, then reading, the Hot Cop series.

After the murder of his brother, DES agent Mateo Juarez has carefully constructed his cover identity as "The Widowmaker", a professional assassin. His success and his life will depend on it, because he is going after Alexandar Dumas, the man who ordered the execution of Mateo's brother and the most powerful druglord in the Americas. The means to the end is Dumas' s daughter, Sophia, the sole survivor of his four children. Her photos show a face mostly hidden by a mop of blond hair and a body hidden by shapeless clothes. But when Mateo catches her on a rare night on the town, he is thunderstruck. Sophia has a curvaceous body and knows how to use it on the dance floor. And there are way too many other men around her.

His lead is the drug lord daughter Sophia, a teacher bend on pleasing her father the only alive relative. One night of freedom before doom with an psychopathic future husband her father had selected, the passionate encounter with the dark handsome stranger in the club eluded her dreams. Little that she know, her encounter is not a coincidence but lead to a bloodbath engagement and sudden wedding with Mateo. Can she find it in herself escaping one horrible marriage into a marriage with Mateo, or will her father fractured cartel expose Mateo intention and made them lose their life before they even have the chance to savour it?
It is a great romantic thriller/suspense book and even that is understatment. Be warned it is gory, but some romance here and there in btw the scene along a very sexual encounter btw the main is definitely and added flavour. One scene is very medieval (remind me of historical romance in 16th or 17th century with the Scot or Henry 8th era like) is also forewarned. Overall, a well liked main characters with flaws but good for each other, well written plot, a good story under the genre. 4 stars ; ARC given by netgalley for an honest review.

I found Sworn to Love to be a return to Karin Tabke’s earlier Hot Cop books. There seems to be less on the drama and more of a focus on the suspense. Don’t misunderstand, the mission is a personal one. When the main character is invested in the outcome of the job it makes for the best kind of stories. The opening of the story is just riveting with the action in the alley. When the story stays with the action elements of the story, it is an amazing 5 stars story.

DEA agent Mateo/ Mathew Kane is smart, committed, and capable of bringing down the drug cartel. Karin Tabke has nailed the hero complex with Mateo. He will not be stopped. His love interest, Sophia is a kindhearted, gentle character. However, she is also naive and able to be manipulated almost effortlessly (even her coworker sets her up), so it was easy to see that Mateo will use her at least in the beginning. Her denial about her father to nearly the very end took something away from the story for me. I just couldn’t buy that she was so blind.

The action scenes along with the suspense of when Mateo/Matthew would be caught in the web of undercover lies are what kept me reading. The romance between Sophia and Mateo just didn’t work for me since I kept thinking he needed a smarter, stronger partner in life.

When DEA agent Mathew Kane goes undercover as the widowmaker Mateo Juarez, the absolute last thing that he expects is to fall in love with Sophia, the boss's daughter. He is willing to do anything to put a stop to the drug O that is hitting the streets with massive consequences. If he has to seduce and sleep or even marry one naive boss's daughter than so be it. At this point he has nothing to lose.

What he wasn't counting on was that Sophia would end up seducing him in a night club. Trying to make some kind of decision for herself she decides to have a one night stand before her father forces her to marry a tyrant. Unbeknownst to her, the man she chooses is none other than Mateo.

With one kiss from her and one touch, Mateo is hooked. Pretty soon he's come to the realization that this pretend romance is actually real and he'll do anything in his power to make sure she gets out of this hell hole alive.

With an extremely possessive alpha male and a wittingly charming heroine this is a book you won't soon forget. Between the gun fights and sensually explicit scenes, Karin Harlow is a true master in romance and one that I can look forward to next book in this outstanding series.

Sophia is the daughter of a head of a drug cartel. She is to be married to a man of her fathers choosing. She is kept in the dark for most of her life of what her dads business is really about. Her father is behind a very powerful new drug called O.

Wanting to do something crazy the night before she marries she goes to the club. Where she meets Mateo Juarez undercover DEA Agent that goes by Mat. When he is undercover he is known by Widowmaker but Sophia doesn’t know that. He is undercover to take down her father and to stop the production of the drug O.

When Mateo meets Sophia its instant lust, fire. The more involved he becomes with her he take the mission more personally because now he has to protect her too. This has a lot of action drugs; sex and action will have your pulse racing.

I thought like many others have said that the ending was a bit rushed. Overall it was a good story since I’m Latin it kind of reminded me of the novellas I see on TV’s very entertaining.

Who doesn't love a man in uniform? Scratch that. A hot, deadly, dirty talking, takes whahe wants man in uniform! Is it hot in here, or is it just me?

Mateo Juárez is an undercover DEA agent. He is infiltrating the deadliest cartel in North and central America. What he didn't expect was the hot, vivacious daughter of the cartel leader.

Mateo and Sophia's chemistry is smoking hot. A lot of times, our couples lack that chemistry that makes the romance sizzle. But these two have it in spades. Your kindle will spontaneously combust from too much hotness. I can't easy too much at the risk of giving the story away. But I will day it is a must buy and a definite must read!

My one and only complaint about this book is that the ending felt a bit rushed. Other than that, everything else was perfect.

In this story undercover DEA agent Matthew Kane is after the biggest drug cartel especially after his brother is killed by them. He now uses his alias and goes in undercover but does not expect to fall for the boss’s daughter. In order for the whole plan to work they get married. She cannot stand him but slowly she is beginning to warm to him. He is in love with her and wants to protect her but does not know how to tell her that her father is not the man she thinks he is. As this love hate relationship goes along there are moments that they are together that she sees a different side and slowly she is seeing things a little differently until the final big blow up. A good fast paced and exciting book, and I liked the two main characters a lot. The action in this book makes this a fast read for it feels like nonstop as you go through the story. Overall a good book. I got this book from net galley.

I really enjoyed this book. It was suspenseful, intriguing, and super-hot!

The novel is about a DEA agent, Mathew Kane, who has to go undercover to infiltrate a drug cartel. While undercover, he finds himself engaged/married to the mob boss' daughter, Sophia. Feelings develop and Mathew finds himself doing anything to protect Sophia.

If you like you romantic-suspense novels, then you will enjoy this one.

Received a copy of the title in exchange for an honest review.

The overall idea for this story was great and the character development spot on. I enjoyed reading about Sophia and how she dealt with the life she lived. Parts of her characterization were wishy-washy, but altogether, she was an enjoyable character. I enjoyed Mat/Mateo's character, though. The pacing of the story was fast and it was easy to get drawn into the storyline. I would have liked more depth/a fuller end, however.

Mateo I loved that man, "when it comes to you, Sophia, I'll dance with the devil to be inside you again." He's protect, possessive and just an all around sexy man, "his fingers curled around hers. "You mean something to me. I want to protect you and I can't keep my hands off you." I enjoyed this book with a man like Mateo in it there's nothing I didn't like well except for Sophia's father.

The writing was a little disconnected to me. The transitions felt choppy. I liked the plot though, a little more development would have made the difference. Mateo does the hot cop routine pretty well and Sophia is ok at the mob princess, family duty gal. She needed some depth, something to stand out. It has potential, but it's not quite there as I read it.

I normally really like this series, it's usually filled with lots of hot scenes. But this one turned me off from the start. Not sure if part of it is because of where it's set, with a Mexican cartel or the story itself. Either way, this one isn't for me.

Good story. Fast paced. Good erupting kept me into the story, but the ending felt rushed. Complete, but rushed.

I love KT but I had a hard time getting into and then finishing this one. Not sure why...

What an intense romantic thriller. A very action packed ending. I have no idea how Sophia can live like she did. Her family is insane.
