Politics is something Sheriff Littlepage Eller tries to keep out of her duties in the quirky town of Crazy, Virginia. As the unwanted daughter of both of Crazy’s feuding founding families, Lil’s managed pretty well so far, but then her wealthy cousin, Jack Littlepage, announces plans to develop a huge family campground near Crazy, sending the town (and her department) into a tizzy.
And then, someone blows up a house, and there may be ties to some local men with a grudge against the government. With the aid of her foul-tempered feline deputy, Boris, Lil’s got to defuse the situation and bring the perpetrator to justice. Because when it comes to the law, there’s only one side to be on, and it’s hers.
Shannon Hill lives in the commonwealth of Virginia and treasures her privacy. She loves cats, chocolate, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Although she is not nearly as awesome as Sheriff Lil Eller, her cats are as awesome as Boris. One of them even enjoys riding in the car. (Seriously. Who could make that up?)
This time it's political.... or is it? A pipe bomb destroys a home & due to a flyer found in the victims' mailbox the FBI steps in and takes Lil's case away from her. But Lil isn't going to stop investigating. She has to be careful she doesn't step on the FBI's toes so she can't use her usual sources -her aunt & her bestfriend. Nevertheless she & Boris make headway trying to track down the 'criminal trespasser' who left some cigarette butts behind. She shares her finds with the FBI and they include her in a search at a suspects. Then another building in another tiny village in the county explodes and takes the windows of half the village with it. Suspects abound. There are twists and turns. Good solid mystery.
I love reading these shorter reads they are a nice distraction from a busy day at work. It’s fun to visit the town of Crazy, Virginia and meet the characters that stroll its streets and its Sheriff Littlepage ‘Lil’ Eller and her Deputy Boris (who happens to be a cat with a nose for lies). Lil is a tough gal who can stand her ground
Lil finds an unwelcome visitor in town in the shape of her ex-fiancee Steven who is developing a site for tourism but a gas explosion takes out the Vogt house and Lil has to find out if it was deliberate or an accident.
Shannon Hill delivers interesting characters and setting and a story that moves along at pace. Definitely recommend.
Crazy, VA in this fourth book of the series has explosive action from pipe bombs to an ex-fiance. Lil has her hands full with her Littlepage cousin's plan to save the town, her best friend going into labor and her love life tanking. This action-packed story continues the small town adventures of Sheriff Eller and her deputy cat Boris. Cozy fans will enjoy this along with the other books in the series.
This is the fourth, I hope not the last, of the Lil and Boris books. It is not the strongest of the four, but still completely enjoyable. I found the plot in this one a little on the weak side but frankly having just come off the plot of the third book, Crazy Like a Fox which was such a firecracker, anything would have been be a bit of a let down. The one untrue note for me here was the romance which I found forced and a deterrent to the hundred percent pure enjoyment I've had reading the other three. However, since the real enjoyment in these books are the characters who are so deliciously off beat yet so on the money I wasn't unhappy with the book just a tiny bit let down. I love this series and long for more.
Stone Cold Crazy - another solid performance from Lil and Boris
This is the fourth in the Lil and Boris series and it continues a great story line. Fun dialogue, sneak attack from a despicable ex and idiots with pipe bombs - what's not to like! and although Punk as a boyfriend totally blows it he does at least feel bad for his horrible snafu and gets back in Lil's good graces. surprise bomber in the end - but not if you are paying attention! Great series by Shannon Hill and I will continue to be a fan and follower.
We are again in Crazy and the residents lived up its name. Lil is surprise when her ex-fiancee turns up working for Jack. Shortly pipe bombs start exploding around town. The FBI takes over Lil's case and She is left to handle the residents. Boris has some cat adventures that are funny. Lil's romance is going nowhere.
Shannon Hill hits another home run with this fourth book in the series. The mystery unwinds amid gentle sarcasm and ironic humor redolent of a rural, small town populated by an interesting assortment of characters. It ends on a hopeful note that perhaps, just perhaps, Lil's loneliness will end.
Each book in this series gets better and better! I thoroughly enjoyed this read about Lil and Boris as they try to figure out who blew up a house in Crazy. Funny and delightful as well as so well written that it was impossible to put down! Just. Get. The. Book. andhurryupandreadit!!!! You can't go wrong with this one!
Ill has her hands full when a house is blown up. Then her ex-fiance shows up, working with cousin Jack on a project meant to save Crazy. Then it gets, well, crazy. Lil and Punk decide to openly date, but he stands her up. The Fed's have been called in to take over the blown up house case. But nothing is as it seems.
a series of bombings, a nefarious and conniving ex fiancee, a new relationship founders, attempted murder, adultery....heady mix. but the conniving ex gets his, the homegrown terrorists blow themselves and half their town away and the initial bomb turns out to be a domestic dispute, and the relationship finds new ground.
Another good addition to the series, again seems as if the author is headed more to light/traditional mystery now than cozy mystery but remains excellent, with great characters and wonderful sense of area and people.
I've read all four of Shannon Hill's Lil and Boris books in quick succession and absolutely adore them. The writing is excellent, the mysteries interesting and the characters are entertaining. A wonderful read, full of whacky characters and entertaining all round. Highly recommended!
