It has been four years since ex-Navy SEAL Jack Haliday, had an explosive run-in with a biker gang, wounding their leader, Gunner. During those years, Jack had acquired everything he ever wanted: a beautiful wife, daughter, and a lovely home in the suburbs--everything was just about as perfect as it could get, until Gunner returned to twist Jack's world inside-out with a vengeance that he could never have prepared for. Now Jack has a score to settle and he's got some friends to help him do it.
After enjoying a career as a professional dancer/choreographer for twenty-six years, I have retired to write my book series and spend more time with family and friends.
Revenge comes when you are most vulnerable and least expect an attack. Jack Haliday, ex Navy Seal, finds himself the target of a brutal attack that would change his life forever. Rayne Lee and Jack are brought together by a tragedy that would haunt both of them and bring back memories Dr. Rayne Lee would soon like to forget.

Called into his see his Captain before leaving the information imparted would stir up old feelings, anger and the memories of an undercover operation that went sour. As Jack went after a biker gang called the Nomads held up in an abandoned mansion “located in a ravaged strip-minded dead land, their leader Gunner plus an undercover police Detective would provide enough cover to take this man and the gang down. But, what happened four years before left him a prime target for the man and the gang in the present.
A child should feel safe and protected with her parents around and a four year olds birthday provided the fodder for a sick man’s revenge. With Jack supposedly assigned to another case this deranged killer hoped to find a way to get him but Jack is observant, realized that something was wrong as he noticed a black van circling around his house at odd times. Laura Haliday enjoyed serving food to the needy at the soup kitchen and one man’s appearance and demeanor would frighten her daughter Lil and leave her feeling cold. As they made their way to their car she sensed being watched and what happens next and the chilling events would darken many lives, change Jack’s perspective and leave one little girl without her mother.
Walter Wabash is the head of a group called the Special Forces. Living next door to Jack and his family they had no idea about his affiliation with the CIA or with this special group. But, when Walt hears something going on at Jack’s house and sees the burning inferno the scene will be etched in his mind forever. When the final outcome is revealed the end result will place not only Jack but also Lil in danger. Walt and his First Force Team ban together to learn more about Gunner, his goals and where he is holding up. But, not everything goes according to plan and the kidnappers force her to leave a starling message that will either destroy Jack or finally bring this man down.
Author Cindy McDonald brings to light just how far one man will go to protect what is left of his family and another will go to seek revenge. Loyalty from gang members will it help when they are caught? What is it about Gunner that so many fear him? A character so filled with hate, greed and exudes fear within those not capable of seeing him for what and who he is, Jack Haliday has to decide just how far he will go to win.
With the help of Twila the Labrador the police find the bugs within their department. Jack taking his wounds in stride and with Smitty, Walt and Casey plus the rest of the team they set up a sting hoping to rescue the young girls and Rayne. Trackers in place, the plan is set and the end result will surprise readers as the delivery is unique, the pace is set and Jack and Walt’s team race the clock and time to save not only Jack from Gunner’s blade once more but the young girls he plans on selling.
An ending so powerful, electric and dramatic only author Cindy McDonald can deliver it. What is Jack’s fate? Where will he wind up next? What about his job with the police department? Just how will he deal with Laura’s death? What about Dale and Walt? Questions unanswered and lives hanging the balance until author Cindy McDonald brings back the First Force Team and Dr. Rayne Lee in her 2014 novel: Into the Dark. Fran Lewis: Reviewer

Into The Crossfire is the first book in the First Force Series.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from the author / publisher in exchange for my honest review and participation in a virtual book tour event hosted by Pump Up Your Book! Virtual Book Publicity Tours.
Cindy McDonald introduces her new series (First Force) with Into the Crossfire. For romantic-suspense fans, there's nothing not to love about this book. We have Jack Haliday, a handsome (just look at the cover!) ex-Navy Seal, now undercover cop. He's got the perfect life: beautiful loving wife and adorable curly headed daughter.
Everything is perfect until Jack's past comes back with a fiery vengeance to rip it all away.
Four years ago, just as Jack was about to bust the homicidal leader of a bad-ass motorcycle gang after six months of undercover work, he was forced to blow his cover in a big way to save the life of another detective. Gunner escaped.
It's taken four year, but Gunner tracks Jack down to turn his world inside out by killing his wife and destroying his idealistic home.
That is when Jack discovers the secret world of his kindly (yet mysterious) next door neighbor Walt, who is the leader of the team of top operatives known as First Force.
In her new series, Cindy McDonald takes the reader on a roller coaster of suspense and romance. The First Force team is made up of wonderful characters who are a wonderful mixture of compassion (the team's beautiful doctor Raine, who has a sorrowful past), strength, and even humor: like a huge, humorless pilot named Stuart Little, who takes exception to jokes about his name.
When Jack's world crumbles, Walt and his team swoop in to save his life and go to work to bring justice as only they can do, even when the life of one of their own is put in the balance.
I highly recommend this book for readers looking for a thrilling ride of suspense and romance.
Four years earlier Jack goes undercover as a biker for the gang Nomads and he quickly gains the trust of the leader Gunner. The undercover operation goes belly up, when fellow officer shows up and Jack is forced to save the man’s life, by shooting Gunner, thus revealing himself. Now four years later, Gunner is back to seek his revenge on Jack.
I haven't read a heart pounding thriller like this in years! I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time. I, especially loved the way the author introduces just small tidbits of the past in the first few chapters. This was a wonderful read.
INTO THE CROSSFIRE by Cindy McDonald is an exciting Romantic Suspense. Book 1 in the "First Force" series and what a beginning. For a heart pumping, adrenaline flowing thrill ride, you MUST read "Into the Crossfire" you will not be disappointed. Join ex-Navy Seal, turned detective, Jack Haliday as his world gets turned upside down, by a criminal from his past, Biker gang leader, Gunner. Oh yeah, Jack has a few friends of his own that will do anything to help Jack keep his family safe from harm,although, this may not be so easy. Lots of twists and turns, but this does not take away from the story only makes it more of a set on the edge of your seat story. Loved it! What a great suspenseful read! Well written with engaging, and intriguing characters and a storyline to die for, literally. Well done indeed! This is the first time for reading anything by this author and was I amazed how good this book is. Cindy McDonald has written a fabulous suspence thriller with an edgily storyline with remarkable characters that hold your attendance through the whole book. And wow it won't disappoint you at all. Ex- Navy Seal turn detective Jack Haliday world gets turned upside down by a criminal from his past -non other then bad boy biker leader Gunner who almost killed jack once before in a house fire ,Could he be back to try again? The suspense mixed with murders in the story just explosives off the pages through out the book .The vengeance and justices just gets you so excepted with surprise's around every corner. If you love reading about military men or police men this story is for you .I highly recommend you to read this series and enjoy I did.
The author started the story with intrigue right away. You could sense the danger and knew something terrible was going to happen. Jack Halliday is a lovable character while also being tough. In the midst of the action Ms. McDonald introduced the adorable little Lil - Jack's daughter. She steals your heart. A lot happened in this story that made me smile, frown, feel what the characters felt, and wonder if it was possible that things will turn out okay. The author handled things in an awesome way. She made me root for the good guys and want to beat the snot out of Gunner and Officer Mowrey. I could easily see this as a made-for-TV series. This was the first time I've read this author. I enjoyed this story so much I'll be reading the next book in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book as a part of a book tour for a fair and honest review.
A former seal turned cop, the leader of an outlaw biker gang, and a town caught in the middle all take center stage in Cindy McDonald’s Into the Crossfire, a suspense thriller and the first book in the First Force series. Well-developed characters, a vendetta and plenty of physical action grabbed my attention and never let go. If you’re a fan of shows like Son’s of Anarchy, this is a book you’ll want to pick up.
Ms. McDonald does a good job introducing her characters and their back stories right from the start. We meet Jack Haliday, a former Navy Seal turned cop, whose life is filled with work, his wife and small daughter. A physically strong man who believes in the law, Jack knows he’s been blessed in life and only has one fear, an undercover operation that went sideways four years ago and “Gunner”, the bike gang’s leader that got away. Knowing how crazy, and dangerous Gunner is, makes Jack worry about the future. I easily connected with Jack and liked him right from the start, though I thought it was somewhat naïve of him to stay in the same town where the undercover operation had gone so badly. I also enjoyed getting to meet his wife Laura, a sincerely nice woman, and their precious four year old daughter Lil, who was super cute.
Ms. McDonald does a good job shaking things up and bringing drama, danger, and plenty of action into the story when Jack’s past comes back to bite him and almost destroy his life. I enjoyed meeting the members of the First Force security firm, a firm run by his retired “former CIA” neighbor, and watching Jack and Lil both get taken in by the team, protected and then begin to put their lives back together. I also enjoyed watching Jack get back into action as he takes on the man who almost destroyed his life.
Will Jack and the First Force team take “Gunner” down and put an end to his gang and their illegal activities once and for all? Will Jack and Lil have a change at a happy future together? And will Jack’s heart be open to giving love a second chance? You’ll have to read Into the Crossfire to find out. I enjoyed it and look forward to reading more books in this series.
I'll be honest- I said I would review this because it's the first in a series AND it involves Navy SEAL's. Yum. Double yum. Thankfully, I wasn't disappointed at all and it was a great read. I'll also be honest- I thought this was going to be a romance and considering what happens to Jack's wife- it would have been terrible and totally not believable at all.
And can I just say? I love the characters. I love them all, I love how well Cindy developed them in this story without you thinking, "Oh just shut up already", it's just enough. It sets up the series, it leaves you wondering where the series is going to go, are we just going to focus on Jack, or will we learn more about the other First Force members, or what about Dr. Rayne Lee? I think the second book is set up to be "her" book, but who knows. I thought this was going to be just Jack but the author pulls a little bit of everyone into it.
Anyways.
This is basically the story of Jack, who pissed off a really bad guy. He thought after four years he was in the clear but oh no- not even close. I can't tell you the big comeback moment because it ruins a big part of the book. But, BIG THING HAPPENS, and it sets the rest of the characters in motion. Reeling from BIG THING, Jack is injured and damned if he's going to let the bad guy win. But because he's injured others are basically doing the leg work trying to figure out who did it, all of the players involved, and more information on where said players now are. Well bad guys figure out that oh hey- Jack is still alive, so they come after him. Then there is a big deal at the end and along the way we have human trafficking, a bad cop, a doctor who clearly has some form of PTSD and a little girl. All of that, happening within 360-some pages.
I really loved this book. I am super excited for the rest of the series. This was hard to put down and I finished it in mere hours. Totally worth the wasted weekend afternoon when I should have been baking!
To put aside any doubts, I will say from the start that Into the Crossfire was a pleasant read, one that flowed easily. But more important it did not fall into the fault of the repetitiveness and of the uninspired use of clichés like many other works of the genre.
The author was not afraid to torment her characters, thus giving the necessary bitter tinge of reality to the plot. The characters, positive or negative, main and secondary are suitable for the role they received, but they don’t leave much room for lights and shadows. They have clear convictions that are seen in all their acts. Even the survivor, Raine, reacts as I expected her to. With one exception: Alicia M. She was the main attraction for me.
Dual, Alicia shocks through her "antisocial" acts, but at the same time she shows some kind of dignity, honor. With a messed up system of values, but well secured and with surprising reactions given her chosen lifestyle, she made me give her my full attention. As a result of her personal experience and the influence of her past father, she is between evil and somewhat good. I would have liked for her to find another way out, but the one she has chosen is the most appropriate. It seems to me that event the author’s style became more dark and poetic when she wrote Alicia’s chapters.
Regarding the romantic side of the story, I do not agree entirely with the classification in the romantic suspense genre. The romantic elements are there, but they have a different role than the one that you could expect. The author moved with care, knowing that any augmentation of the romantic side of the plot would mean that the intensity of the sentiments will be substantially diminished. But as part of a series, the option of developing a romantic connection remains viable.
At the end, I would add that Into the Crossfire has suspense, emotion, rhythm and a sort of happy ending.
Jack Haliday is married to the woman of his dreams, has a sweet four year old little girl, and is working as a detective after being retired from the Navy SEALs. His life is going pretty good. At least it was until a criminal, Gunner, from a past case that he was working on comes and turns Jack’s world upside down.
Wow, what a page turner; I didn’t want to put it down. The book starts out with the quote, “In our darkest moments we must focus to see the light,” by Aristotle Onasis. And boy, does that quote hold true for Jack Haliday, and another character in the story as well, Rayne. Jack’s life starts out almost perfect and then bam, drastic changes, and not in a good way.
But Jack doesn’t stop and mope in despair. He heals, and he fights. And he’s not the only one. He and his daughter, Lil, make some powerful friends along the way, and these friends help protect Jack’s family and help Jack extract revenge on Gunner.
It sure is hard to review a suspense novel because I don’t want to give anything away! This story is great though. The point-of-view changes a few times, but it honestly didn’t bother me because the story was so good. There are so many twists and turns that will keep you on your toes. If you’re looking for a quick read that will get your adrenaline pumping, pick up Into the Crossfire. Let me know what you think!
My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

*****I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.*****
Four years ago, police officer and former Navy SEAL Jack Haliday was undercover with a biker gang when his cover was blown. He got away, but so did the leader of the gang, Gunner. He's been waiting for Gunner to find him and exact his revenge ever since -- and he finally does. He rips Jack's family apart, and leaves Jack to pick up the pieces with his little girl, Lil.
Into the Crossfire by Cindy McDonald is a great thriller with an engaging storyline and interesting characters. It was a quick read and kept my attention throughout. The story follows Jack and his daughter, as well as the First Force team that cares for them and works with Jack to take down Gunner and his gang. But we also get to see the gang, mostly from the perspective of Gunner's girlfriend, so we get to see both sides of the story to some extent. This gives us the opportunity to get to know many unique characters.
I really enjoyed Into the Crossfire, particularly because of the characters. The storyline was complex enough to make it interesting, but also easy to follow. If you like thrillers that really focus on the characters, you should definitely check out Into the Crossfire. This is the first book in Cindy McDonald's new First Force series, and I will be looking forward to the next one.
"Into the Crossfire" is one heck of a read! It is filled with many emotions- anger, pain, agonizing heartbreak and beautiful love. Ms. McDonald balances it all beautifully. There's even some lighter moments that made me smile and chuckle a bit. Our Hero, Jack, is sexy as all get out - an ex-Navy SEAL - he's strong and capable but, wow! how much pain can one man take. His story certainly brought a tear to my eye. Rayne, our heroine, has a similar past, but can she reach Jack. I absolutely loved the two of them together. This book is one giant thrill ride - if you enjoy stories that include a rollercoaster of action, then don't miss out on this one. Ms. McDonald is a new author for me and I can honestly say, I am beyond thrilled to have taken a chance and read her story. This is book one of a new series from Ms. McDonald, and if "Into the Crossfire" is any indication, this should prove to be a great one. (received copy for honest review)
I love these type of military, mercenary type of books. This was my first time reading this author. She did a great job with it. I love Jack and Lill. I liked all the characters. Now that I know that Jack was in previous Unbridled stories, I will go back and read that series. I would have given this 5 stars if there was a little more romance in it, but I will take the tension instead. Worth reading.
Good plot that grabs the reader. The book needs better editing.
I read a Kindle version of this book and found a number of typos, along with improper grammar and word usage. If there had been better editing, the story would have gotten higher marks. Character development was pretty well addressed and the plot moved right along. I hope the author has a better editor for her future books.
Four years ago ex-Navy Jack Haliday was working undercover to trap Gunner, the leader of a biker gang. He was discovered and Gunner managed to escape. Now he is back, posing a serious threat to his wife and small daughter. And he knows it. Gunner finally finds him and hell breaks loose. The rest es easy to guess. A 100 % predictable story. I just finished it to prove myself right in my assumptions, and... I was. I hate books when you know what will happen next.
What a great story about Jack Haliday, a Navy Seal turned undercover police officer. A past undercover assignment comes for revenge on Jack and his family. This book will pull you in and you will want to keep reading. Suspence, Romance, and exciting twists and turns all the way through! This is a must read. Stay tuned, as I also get to narrate the book into an audio book!
( Format : Audiobook ) "She'll be the angel sitting on your shoulder." This book seems to suffer from an identity crisis. Whilst the basic idea of revenge by both a betrayed biker gang leader betrayed, as he saw it, by an undercover cop, and that same feeling in the heart of the cop himself, the story is also swamped with domestic sentimentality an a hint of romance: it takes seven chapters to get to the action story itself, first establishing a rather unrealistic idealised marital situation, complete with blow by stroke sex scene and is constantly awash with more emotional clutter.
The narration, however, is good. Kevin Iggens' reading is well paced, with good intonation and expression and, although his voicings of the numerous characters is not overly individual, no clarity is lost by this. His was a distinctive reading rather than a full interpretation performance.
The writing is occasionally sloppy and repetitive but mostly fair. However, it is the constant change of scenarios and addition of unecessary sentimentality which, despite the frequent action and inventive ideas, made Into the Crossfire a less than pleasurable book for this reader.
I received my complimentary copy of the book, via Audiobook Boom, from the rights holder. My thanks for that. Sadly, despite some exciting and action filled sections, I found it too style confused to be able to recommend it
When Jack Haliday was working undercover as a biker in order to take down the motorcycle gang his cover was blown and the leader of the group, Gunner, got away. That was 4 years ago. Now Jack is married with an adorable four year old daughter when Gunner comes back for revenge in this thrilling story.
Surprisingly, help came from his neighbour, Walt. He had no idea Walt owned First Force, a team of operatives who had the expertise to assist Jack with Gunner and his gang.
This book had me on the edge of my seat wanting to know how/if Jack would survive Gunner's revenge. It's a fantastic story of murder, romance, revenge and suspense. Cindy McDonald's writing is so easy to follow even with all the plot twists, that I just didn't want to put it down.
I have to say that I'm so glad that I won Into the Crossfire in Cindy McDonald's giveaway hosted by Just Romantic Suspense. I love the First Force group and will be reading more about them
This is a 5 star book! I LOVED it!!!!. Glad I finally got my kindle situation settled and finally got my hands on this book. It is fabulous! Very well written, keeps you in suspense throughout. Had me in tears when Jack's wife was murdered, and that precious little girl, she was just a doll. So glad that his neighbor was a CIA agent. Would love to see this as a movie. You really need to check out this book, you will really enjoy it.
~~~~~~~~~~Lindsey's ★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~
I really love any romance with suspense involved. This book was riveting and I couldn't put it down. Action packed romance is definitely something I love to read, especially when the age old theme of vengeance is involved. I definitely want to read more books by this author.
NUMBER OF HEARTS: 3 1/2 REVIEW: Jack Haliday has always known his job could be dangerous. But he never realized just how dangerous it could end up being until the day that his world was turned completely upside down and he lost everything.
This was an okay book for me. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters but there was something missing for me. I just never really connected with it over all. But fan’s of suspense novels would enjoy this story.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.
As an ex-Navy SEAL Rosemount Police Detective, Jack Haliday, has experienced multitudes of dangerous situations. When that danger follows him home though, he must find a way to keep his wife and daughter safe. Can he do it before it's too late?
This is a romantic-action story full of danger and suspense, of love and adoration, of crime and corruption that had me on the edge of my seat to the very end. The characters are developed in a way that the reader becomes part of the story as it unfolds to reveal secrets that run deeper than what they appear. The danger and tension are gripping as the compassion and love are, making for an emotional tale.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read as I hope you will as well!
A man from Jack's past returns to exact revenge in the most horrific way possible. Into The Crossfire was a wild ride from beginning to end. With an exciting storyline that was loaded with action, suspense and plot twists, there was rarely a dull moment and I was immediately drawn in. The potential future romance hints at a sequel and I'd love to see where it goes. The narration was well done but I would have preferred a little more variation with some of the character voices. I enjoyed Into The Crossfire and would recommend it.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is my honest opinion.
It may have been four years since Jack has been undercover but when his enemies return they vow to settle the score.
This book was non stop action packed. It focused around Jack but we meet an elite team who goes out of their way to help him hide and reap vengeance. Every single chapter in this book was fantastic. Some you will love and some you will hate. It made the read exciting.
If you want a dose of murder, mystery, suspense, angst, plenty of action, sadness and happiness all rolled into one then you need to meet the First Force.
What a wonderful book that has unforseen outcomes at every page you turn. Jack Haliday is thrown into a difficult situation and his great neighbor can only help as he knows how. Read this wonderful book to find out how it all unfolds.
(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)
Starting from the end of chapter three, Into the Crossfire was non-stop action. There were kidnappings, gun battles, a knife fight, and a house fire. Basically, Cindy McDonald threw everything at us but the kitchen sink and that’s a good thing.
Honestly, there wasn’t too much I would change. I adored Lil, the 4-year-old cutie pie. Every time she entered a scene she cut the tension drastically and this book definitely needed it. It was an intense read.
Other positive things to note:
Cindy McDonald integrated the flashbacks moments featuring Dr. Rayne Lee very nicely into the storyline. She also didn’t overwhelm us with a bunch of team members. She introduced us to only a handful, which means many more books in the series. All in all, a good read.
This book is heavy on love, crime, CIA, special ops, safe houses, corruption and more. The evil that people do always comes back around and they either pay the price, die, or not get into heaven. The story is interesting. Characters bears not only physical scars. Triggers: Rape memories, female sex slave trafficking, military memories.
