Caught Looking

Rate this book
Things are starting to heat up in Atlanta, or at least in Jane’s celibate life of two years. On the two year anniversary of her nasty split between her and her ex, Jane’s friends, Molly – class “A” filthy mouth – and Albert – flamboyant dresser extraordinaire – decide it’s high time Jane drops the conservative persona, let loose and start to have some fun once again.

Brady Matthews, Atlanta Braves first baseman and well known through the media as Atlanta’s gigolo, thought he was just taking his new teammate, Michael Banks, out on the town. Little did he know Michael’s friend from college, Jane, was going to show up at their table and turn his world upside down.

When Brady meets Jane, he is instantly attracted to Jane’s innocence and inner sex kitten but the last thing she wants is to be thrown into another relationship with such a publicly known man-whore especially after her heart was broken so devastatingly. Brady makes it his mission to win Jane over and make her see him as the man he actually is, not the way the media perceives him. But it is not that simple. Wedding plans, spring training, ex’s, old college friends, the paparazzi and gossip magazines seem to keep getting in the way of Brady’s goal to earn Jane’s heart.

Caught Looking goes through the love lives of Jane, Brady and their group of friends fighting the hardships of cheating, trusting, losing love and trying to find it once again. In one of America’s hottest cities, the gang heats up the sheets while their lives entangle together causing heartache, suffering through loss and finding love….hopefully.

When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn't take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn't until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven't turned back since.

You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.

I currently reside in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.

I love this author but I could not get into this book. I kept putting it down to go read another book and finally I just skimmed to get to the end.

The bad: Characters and humor were too immature. Felt high schoolish. The men behaved like woman.

The good: Multiple POV

Genre: Contemporary Romance + Sports + Humor
Series: Hot-Lanta series #1 (read the series in order)

:: 4.5 Pretty Little Stars ::

Meghan Quinn sure knows how to write a GREAT story! I really adored this one. It's a bit different than her newer novels (i.e. The Virgin/Randy Romance Novelist, Stroked, The Mother Road etc.) but just as good. Why is this one different? Well, because it is not all about the humor. Instead, it is a story (or series rather) of friendship, falling in love, loss, pain, and more. This is definitely a more serious book in terms of the authors work and I really found it to be quite pleasant as I was looking for something a bit different. I certainly go it with this one! This one in particular follows a group of 4 friends (Jane, Brady, Molly, and Luke) and is told in dual POV's. Each POV depicts each characters love story and readers will be fascinated at how the author is able to pull this off without confusion. There are definitely moments of angst, swoon, lust, and sadness but in the end, everyone pretty much comes out nicely. Although you may cry for one of the characters... I won't say more or it will spoil it.

Readers who are interested in this great series should read them in order. They are not standalones. This one sort of ends in a cliffhanger and readers will definitely want to read the second book in the series to see how the characters progress in their relationships. I know I do!

Anyway, I am a huge fan of Meghan Quinn and am so happy that I found a new (albeit older) series by her to fall in love with. Obviously I recommend this one but I also recommend readers diving into her other novels as well because they are just as great!

Holy HOTNESS from HELL.

Well I just.....I really don't know where to start with this book!

Seriously.....

First I need to thank Meghan for providing me with an ARC copy of this book to read and review for this blog tour.

Secondly!..I completely feel lost. I feel like my hearts been dragged out, boiled, knifed, fed to the wolves and stitched back together again, talk about emotionally draining.

This book is written perfectly, Megahn gives us multiple POV's so we know where everyone is thinking at any one point in this book, as there is ALOT of action going on.

This book definitely aint your happy-go-lucky romance, SHIT hits the fan, betrayal comes in the biggest of forms, new friendships bloom, love finds its way back, and grief sneaks up on us like the devil in disguise!

Literally at the end I was in balls of tears, I don't think I've cried so much whilst reading a book :(

This is the first book I have read by this author, and YOU Missy, have astounded me by your work. I will DEFINITELY be keeping a VERY close eye on you :)

P.S I CAN NOT WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON THE 2nd BOOK "PLAYING THE FIELD"

P.S.S I do hope Molly gets her HEA! <3 Heartbroken

All Over The Place

Thank goodness this wasn’t my first Meghan Quinn book or I would not have ever read anymore. This book was all over the place. Too many stories at once, which was confusing and unnecessary. And the writing style was horrible. Usually when a chapter has a character’s name as a heading, it implies that you’ll be reading from that character’s POV. Instead, we got a 3rd-person narrative mostly about the character. It’s like she forgot how to write a story. This isn’t Quinn’s style at all. And Jane was such a horrible character; weak, wishy-washy. Can’t believe she had two men after her. This was definitely not the author’s best work.

Christina, The BookWhoreCaught Looking Review

Ummm...WTF is all I have to say about Meghan Quinn's Caught Looking.

Okay, it's not all I have to say, but seriously...WTF? LOL...I realize I'm not giving y'all much, but I'm still reeling from the way it ended. However, I'll let you know now, I really, really, really enjoyed it.

I jumped right in before reading the synopsis (again). That's when I realized, I didn't remember what this book was going to be about. Usually, I'm compelled to know what to expect, but I was immediately captured by the story.

What I didn't know:

This wasn't just Jane and Brady's story.
Their friends are awesome.
Multiple viewpoints

First, we meet Jane Bradley. She's preparing herself for a pity party of epic proportions. Then we learn why. I swear, some men can be real assholes. Let me tell you something: Don't ever let a man make you feel unworthy and always be fierce!!! Okay, off my soapbox. George, Jane's ex, is a real POS, but he did her a favor. Now, she's putting her talents to use with her event planning business.

CL Teaser 3Enter in, Molly. Jane's very best friend and savior. She's not letting Jane wallow any longer. Besides, she likes to pull the "girlfriend of a soldier card." Admittedly, Jane could at least "get some" if she tried. Her boyfriend Luke was on an Elite Special Forces team and was away for long periods of time.

While out for the first time in forever, Jane reconnects with an old friend and meets the star first baseman for the Atlanta Braves, Brady Matthews. Brady is known for his playboy ways and his celebrity ex-girlfriend Laney Johnson...America's sweetheart...bleh. Brady isn't what the tabloids and Hollywood media would have you believe. You can't believe all the shit they print. And he's prepared to convince Jane just that.

When Luke returns, Molly and him are inseparable, going at it like rabbits. Their relationship is a riot and definitely one to strive for. Their old college friend and Brady's fellow teammate Michael's relationship and marriage doesn't seem to be faring so well. And then his feelings for Jane only muddle things more.

Not to be excluded is the gay best friend. Hello, Alby. He's as fabulous as they come, but he's broken in his own way. I just want to give him a hug and tell to let it all out. It's okay to fall apart. He has a propensity for the extravagant when it comes to apparel.

Get caught looking as Brady seduces Jane and they make your Kindle (e-reader) sizzle. The characters will have you laughing and scowling, smiling like a fool and crying. Be prepared for the gut-wrenching. It's there and, I'm not kidding you, I laid in bed at the wee hours of the morning bawling my eyes out until I fell asleep. There's heartbreak and misunderstanding, celebration and vindication.

I cannot wait to read more about Jane, Brady, and the gang in Playing the Field. Whatever you do, don't look it up the synopsis contains a spoiler for Caught Looking!!! Check out the trailer (below) for Caught Looking.

I give Caught Looking:

ARC Was Given To Blog For An Honest Review

This book was a refreshing surprise. I really really loved it. Very different than most books that tend to focus on a particular couple. This story is an ensemble cast of characters each with their own stories going on, but all of stories entwine within each other. There are also characters that are introduced and you can tell they will play out in the next part of the series. What a fantastic concept for a book, think soap opera, without the dramatic stares before commercials.

There is a lot going on in this book, but I will just give a brief overview of a few of the characters to peak your interest. Molly has to be my favorite; she is a walking talking commercial for people that give TMI, and she totally reminds me of my very good friend Kristen Karwan. Nothing is off limits from her mouth. She is in love with Luke, a hot sexy special ops guy and they really enjoy having crazy sex and lots of it. Jane, the lead in this story, was once very outgoing and outspoken like Molly, but after heartbreak she is not the same girl. She is still trying to find herself again. Albert is the gay best friend every girl should have. I LOVE HIM! NOW for the grand finale, let’s throw in a bunch of hot professional baseball players and ding ding, we have a sure fire winner.

Brady is amazing, he is not your player (just baseball player) when it comes to women, but his celeb status has the tabloids making him look like something he is not. Jane has reservations about him, but he is a persistent man and plans on hitting home runs for the rest of his life with her.

Now with all of these stories going on at the same time, the author did an amazing job. Not once did I feel confused, I loved all the different POVs and dialogue. I connected to each and every character. Meghan has a great knack for witty banter and really made this book fun to read. I will warn you that the story does have a cliff and an ending that ripped my heart out and shred it to pieces. Lucky for us book two is already out and I will be reading it soon.

Ok, so I am having a hard time beginning my review of this book and mainly because of the ending of the book. I am just sitting here with my mouth hanging wide open trying to take it all in and figure it all out.

Jane has been hurt in her past and she wants to wallow in self-pitty on this one day each year. Remember that as the day everything changed in her life. But instead of letting her wallow, her friends decided it was girls night out… And girls night out was going well until an old friend introduced her to someone new… Brady.

What I loved about this book is that all of the characters were normal, yes, even though there were two or four professional baseball players in the book, every one of them acted completely genuine. I liked the honesty between friends, even if it is filthy. The crazy banter between friends is comical and reassuring. It is a reminder for those of us that are always lost in books that the little things can be funny. These friends are the kind of foul-mouthed, no brain-mouth filtered friends you want in your life, especially if you have no family to fall back on.

I loved the story, but within Jane and Brady’s romace brewing, I loved the side relationship with Jane’s best friend and her man, Luke. Though this portion of the story line ended up causing me great grief and annoyance, I loved these two. I think they may be rabbits though because when the are together, they don’t come up for air often. I also developed a soft spot for Michael, however, there was one point in the book that I could have popped him in the face… but alas, he is still the ultimate friend. Risking his heart for an amazing friendship.

So there were some spots in the book with name confusion in the book, meaning the wrong names were used in certain areas of the book. Was it the worst thing that could have happened? Absoulutely not. Because the stroy pushed it and made it easy to keep up even when you knew that the wrong name was being used.

All in all, i adored this book. When it was hot, it was hot and when it was sad, it borered on depressing but after chugging along and getting through the rough spots, I discovered that I completely fell in love with the book and the characters!

ARC Was Given For An Honest Review

I’m not usually a person who reads books about athletes, it’s just not my thing, but something told me to give this book a shot, and I couldn’t be happier that I did. I absolutely loved this book. It was different from my norm…no dark hidden pasts, nothing twisted and crazy, just a feel-good book. At least most of the book is a feel good book. I will admit, there’s a cliffy, and I did ugly cry, but that’s literally at the end of the book. Everything else in the book is just happy and hilarious! There isn’t just one main couple; it’s a cast of characters that will make you laugh and feel like you have been welcomed into their circle. The main romance of this book is between Jane and Brady. Jane is an event planner who has had it bad in her previous relationship. She is just starting to come back to her old self when she meets Atlanta Braves first baseman, Brady Matthews. Brady with his sexy green eyes and his amazing heart, and of course that hot body! Brady is the man that every woman in Atlanta wants, and if they believe everything that they read in the tabloids, he’s a womanizer. The thing is, you shouldn’t believe everything that you read in the checkout lane at the grocery store. He’s had a bad relationship as well, but there’s something in Jane that makes him feel like he can’t stay away. He even enlists a new teammate and college best friend of Jane’s, Michael, to help him get his girl. Michael puts aside his own feelings for Jane, even though he resents it, because he knows that Brady is good for his “Janey Bear”. Even with all of the love and angst from exes, there are a few great bright spots. The relationships between Jane and her two best friends, Albert and Molly, are AMAZING. Albert is the token gay best friend, but he is fabulous and amazing. Everyone should seriously have a best friend like Albert; he’s funny, has great connections, and always gets the girls into the VIP sections of the hottest clubs in Atlanta. I seriously want an Albert! Because even though he’s awesome at hooking the girls up, he’s got a heart of gold. Seriously, he’s my favorite character. I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait for more!

I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review.
I gave this book 5 stars.

This is the first book that I have read from Meghan Quinn, and I was not disappointed.

This book follows the lives of Jane, Brady and their group of friends fighting the hardships of cheating, trusting, losing love and trying to find it once again.

I loved that this focused not on just one love story but of all her friends also, you fell in love not just with Jane and Brady .. But with her bff Molly and her fiance' Luke. And then their BFF Michael. There is so much drama going on in this book at all times, and from all different lives, it goes from one relationship to the next, but fits together very well.

This story is about love, living and loss. It takes you on a journey and makes you feel the lives of all these people and leaves you as happy and as broken as they are. Not everything works out, love is found, love is lost. But love is all we need in the end.

Thank you for your story Meghan I look forward to book two in this series. I can't wait to see what you have in store for the gang next. <3

It was good but the lead female irritated me.

I hate when an author makes the lead female too needy. It had been two years since Jane was with her ex-boyfriend and she was still dedicated a day to get wasted in the memory. Get over it all ready. I was beginning to enjoy her new relationship with Brady and again the author makes the the female this needy and mess of a girl. I know the author had reasons for making her emotional but why make her irrational. Not willing to listen or talk to the man she claims to love. I felt sorry for Brady. The secondary stories were great and hope to read more. Totally loved Albert. I will read the other books because I am very curious to what happens next.

I found this story to be so immature. I didn't connect to the main character Jane. Brady
was another story. He was totally interesting. The one couple I did like was Molly and Luke
but unfortunately, the ending - Yeh didn't like it, but it did hook me to read the next
installement to see if maybe something was a mistake. I have a feeling that it isn't.

This series could have been so much better, if the language was cleaned up a bit, and not aimed
for a younger audience.
Also the characters could have been developed more so you get attached.

I had such high hopes for this book but was let down. I don't really like to give 2-star reviews I think anyone that wrote a book deserves some credit for their accomplishment but when I'm rating it against other books in a similar genre I have to be realistic in comparison and this one just let me down.

A teaser roped me in, I can't remember if it was TikTok or Instagram, but the tease didn't even happen in the book, so let down number 1. For me, it just felt like a TV soap opera. The characters had potential but just never reached it. Brady was by far my favorite though. Molly and Luke were also great fun, but that had issues too.

This is a four-book series you need to read in order and even with the ending from this book and the fact I'd like to get some closure I don't think I'll be reading anymore. If I do I'm pretty sure I'll skim through them.

I would say it was a drama/rom-com but there weren't many funny moments, just a few.

It's told in multiple POVs so it was nice to hear from the different characters but it did cause the story to jump around a lot.

With all that said it was an ok book. I didn't find it an easy read I did put it down a lot before trying to get through some more. It did have a lot of potential and maybe that will fill out more in the rest of the series but I won't be rushing out to read it.

It's only 2.5 stars for me and I'm sad to say I just wished there was more.

Jane lost herself when she was with her ex-fiance George and she is now just trying to find herself again. With the help of her friends, Molly, Albert, and Michael (who's just returned to Atlanta to play for the Warriors) she's slowly becoming the old Jane. She's not ready for the Warrior's first baseman Brady.

Brady takes one look at Jane while out with his new teammate Michael and he wants to get to know her. When she leaves suddenly with her friend he sets out to get to know her hoping Michael can help. Little does he know Michael has always wanted Jane.

Michael is back in Atlanta and glad to be reconnecting with his friends again. He only wishes his wife Kelly wasn't pushing him away. No matter what he tries she seems disinterested more and more. She's not the same woman he fell in love with and being around Jane again only makes him want her again.

Molly is happily in a relationship with Luke but his job as a solider takes him away from her so often. As a member of an elite team there are times when they can't even communicate and she has no idea where in the world he even is. When he returns from his latest mission and proposes she thinks things will start to be more normal. Nothing is ever that simple though.

These friends have a lot going on in their lives and all they want is their happily ever after.

Happy Reading.

Okay you guys..... I am NOT okay after the ending of this book! I've read some of Meghan's books before and loved them and so I thought - why not go back to the beginning and start to make my way through all of her work from oldest to newest? So, I grabbed my copy of Caught Looking - her very first book and OMG was I ever loving it! Right from the beginning it kept my attention.

It starts off with Jane’s friends, Molly (A girl with one of the filthiest mouths) and Albert (their gay and most flamboyant dresser) taking her out to their favourite pub. Ever since Jane found her ex-fiance cheating on her, she celebrates the day by wallowing in her lack of self worth. Her friends couldn't take it anymore and decided to change things this year. Get her wasted and laid! I mean - it's been two years! Michael, and old friend of the girl's from college and no pro baseball player for the Atlanta Braves, just so happened to be in that same bar the same night with a few of his teammates. Brady Matthews is known well by the media. They all claim him as Atlanta's playboy. The minute he meets Jane though.... it's like he can't think straight. He's instantly attracted to her - and it's more than that sexy red dress she showed up in! He wants to get to know her more. He wants to be around her more. But the last thing Jane needs is another man who is only going to break her heart. But Brady isn't going to give up without a fight. He makes it his mission to win her over. To prove to her that he's actually a decent man and he doesn't intend on breaking her heart. But - things are never as easy as you want them to be. Not with two busy schedules, crazy exes and.... that damn media!
Hallelujah! The heavens parted and angels began to sing in his head. Holy crap, she just invited him to go to dinner with her.

Brady is so damn cute with his inner monologue! I really felt bad for him for how the media made him out to be throughout this story. Media can be a real bitch! But I loved the story and how it all played out so well. Meghan's character's are definitely one's to remember. Especially that Molly! LOL I was laughing so hard during the gang's drinking game at the pub too! OMG. So good. But by the end.... Meghan definitely had me in tears and now I need to get to the next book to see what happens because that cliffhanger.... you're killing me meghan!! Killing me!

What happened

I could gave up after the first fight and misunderstandings of whiny main characters. I kept wanting to reach in book and slap them straight.
Did not find ANY of the way too many characters the spoke first person believable or interesting. Let’s start with Michael (not main male character) it was ridiculous that he would not know about his wife and get outraged when he was cheating in his heart over old crush.
Brad, the situation and bake in force was totally unrealistic. From his personal thought, and words.
Then his “love” please she was an idiot (do not use lightly.
She supposedly was a “potty mouth” bold woman in college. Then “George controlled her life and forced her to change and become a classy woman. So she was a slut, had truck driver mouth and all a sudden, her ex was a problem for trying to help her become an adult, gain skills and image that she would need and used in her party planning business. Which was another thing I did not believe she had any skills in.
As you can tell from this review, I am no was a good writer, and frankly neither is this book written well.
It is like someone kept changing mind how the characters should be with, how they should act or had problems remembering what each character was whom.
Felt it was filled with stereotypes and what author thinks people are. Recommend she actual does factual research, and heck, maybe actual talk to real pro athletes, and others in professional she writes about.
I can not stand Molly story line and have no plans on reading that book. Everything about his character is unbelievable. From notifications to his “special forces assignment” get off from couch, stop watch Hollywood fiction stories for research. Read some books of real soldiers. Here is idea, have a lot of vets that are hurting for money, pay them a consultant-fee and interview for what job actually is like.,

If I’m being honest its probably closer to 2-2.5 😳

I’m so glad this isn’t where my Meghann Quinn journey started… I discovered her books last year and fell in love (Go Agitators! 🏒) 🥰 So I decided to do a deep dive into her backlog and start at the beginning… I hate to say I wanted to DNF this book, but I wanted to DNF this book; so. many. times 🫣 That ending was SUPER rough too 🥴

It’s not that it was bad, but there were a lot of things that got under my skin. It felt like I was reading a soap opera; very over dramatic. I HATED the nicknames and could have done without the constant POV changes. I didn’t like the cliffhanger ending 😒 Micheal, George and Laney can all sit on a jumping cholla 🌵 and literally everyone else could grow up a lottle (it’s like a little bit but it’s a lot).

The Good news is, Meghan Quinn has come a long way from this book and I will continue to read ALL THE BOOKS! It’s really interesting to see where it all began and I’m excited because it can only go up from here!

I enjoyed this first book which read just like a soap opera but in good ways and you have to get past all the POVs because there are many. Great writing per the usual especially with all the POVs. This did throw me because I wasn’t expecting it and after finishing would have preferred a book just about the couple.

I think that Jane snd Brady are a cute couple. I liked their relationship even if it was insta love which isn’t a favorite trope for me at all. I also liked how Jane was written and appreciated getting to see her come out of her shell slowly with Brady’s help. I liked the side characters especially Albert and Molly. They are hilarious, great friends and such joys to read. Hopefully we get to continue to see their loved flourish along the series.

Overall good series starter and can’t wait to read the rest of the books.

I'm a fan of Mehgan Quinn's work so when I came across this title in the back of one her books with a notation that it's the first book she wrote, I had to read it. I must say she has grown a lot over the years and her writing has improved with this growth.

This was a good story but not what I've come to expect from her. This was much more dramatic and lacked the humor I've come to appreciate from her more current works. It also contained so much sex that I was rolling my eyes and thinking "again! really?" I wasn't impressed.

However, the love stories were quite wonderful and would have left me with warm fuzzies had it not been for the dark turn she took towards the end. After reading the previews of the next three books in the series, I must decline reading them. Too much pain and grief and apparently, hopelessness for my tastes.

Hot mess

I can’t believe I wasted my time with this juvenile soap opera. I really enjoy romance novels and sports based romances, so I was excited about starting this series. I’m not going to move ahead in the series. The leading lady is immature and cries about 90% of the time - her reactions are over the top and of course she won’t let her boyfriend explain a miscommunication, which causes lots of unnecessary drama. The dialogue is cheesy and the sex scenes seem by rote. There are a lot of really good books out there. I’m disappointed to say that this is not one of them. I never write poor reviews but I felt compelled to be honest with other readers out there.

It didn’t completely suck

Okay I absolutely hate writing bad reviews but the writing in this book was terrible. The story line was really good but the author repeated herself quite a bit throughout the book and there was a lot of filler parts that didn’t really help the story. I will read the next book just because the book ends on a heartbreaking cliffhanger and now I have to know what happened. I really hope the writing in the next book is better because the storyline is great.

Ku
Ok overall I thought ok this book was a 3⭐️. I was not really a fan of the 4 different pov all the time all together. It was a lot going on. However. The ending was best and worst thing about this story. Tore my heart into tiny little pieces then! Threw those pieces into a fire 🔥 omg killed me.
Which is where the 4+ ⭐️ comes from.
Btw not a fan of Michael in this book i hope he improves in one of the other books in this series. And I think Luke was my favorite character. 😭

Wow

Wow Hot-Lanta is a perfect name. These baseball boys are something else. I love how u get so much of each character . Brady is so swoon worthy and perfect for Jane. Molly is the best but I have to say my heart is torn in 2 right now. Alby is freaking fantastic and not sure how I feel about Michael yet but hope to get a bit more of him. Luke..... well just gonna have to leave it with just his name for now. Cant wait to jump right into book 2. Man m I hoping for a miracle.
