“GOLD, GUTS AND GROG,” Part Two Someone wants to kill the Rat Queens? The girls are seeing red and there’s only one thing to do about it: get really, really drunk. And, eventually, maybe get to the bottom of who’s trying to kill them. Because, let’s be honest, they already know why.

Meh? Again, the illustrations are great. The plot though is kind of predictable. But then, I'm probably just blase because I get to enjoy stories like these in real time with all-girl Dnd groups.
Sidebar: I love Stjepan Sejic's work and he's immensely talented, but I swear I could pick his characters out of a line-up of thousands. Is it just me, or are some of the pics of Hannah here a dead ringer for that demon who works in a sex shop out of his sketches for 'Fine Print'?
Forget reviewing this book, it's great, I love it. This is *technically* the third book I've read in the series counting the preview and it's only going further up the hill! It's the perfect book for fans of kickass, fantasy, partying, and last but not least ex- WoW players. Ok fine, if you're still smoking the crack pipe - current WoW players too. It does feel exactly like a really cool humor filled version of World of Warcraft and instead of feeling cheap or lazy it feels wonderful and exciting. I cannot wait for book 3.
Side note I've just told my LCS to pull both A and B covers of the book each month. I honestly just like looking at them - I don't even really read the print editions they just stay bagged and boarded. God this book makes me so happy. I'm also sure those extracurriculars from my vacation this week don't hurt either ;-)
I love the characters. They are endearing, mysterious and bad ass all thrown together. This is a great comic if you are looking for something fun to read.
"I'm an inch from conjuring a thorn bush into your asshole." "I'd summon a tree into yours but I'm pretty sure there's a giant fucking stick up there already!"
Been a minute since I read Rat Queens. Held up pretty well- especially if you got some Skyrim ambience in the background. Really sets the mood.
Not much to say except the humor, comradery and general sense of adventure is strong with this series. Also- as has been mentioned by 99% of every reader of this book- the diverse use of body types is refreshing (to put it mildly. Can get real old only seeing one default body type for women in comics. Was starting to wonder if that's all women looked like).
My only critique is with the art. It's good- but I suppose for this kind of story I'd want the environments to be more detailed and atmospheric.
That's it tho. That's the only gripe. Everything else is up to my standards for an epic yarn. Go read it an stuff.
This issue is 'just okay', but it's even more bland than the first. The concept has potential, but I'm just not entertained by the execution. This isn't helped that when I read this issue, I leaned that the artist had been an abuser. With that, combined with how unfulfilling these past two issues have been, I'm not going to keep reading this series.
I know I just said 30 minutes ago I would not be reading other volumes, buuut I was bored and had nothing else to read. EXCUSE THE INDECISIVENESS. I liked gruesome art style even more and I'm becoming kinda obsessed with storyline haha
Rating at Bottom: I really enjoyed this action packed book. The team has some tensions and two new characters are introduced as well as a murder for hire plot.
Rating: 10/10

"Who are the Rat Queens? A pack of booze-guzzling, death-dealing battle maidens-for-hire, and they're in the business of killing all god's creatures for profit. It's also a darkly comedic sass-and-sorcery series starring Hannah the Rockabilly Elven Mage, Violet the Hipster Dwarven Fighter, Dee the Atheist Human Cleric and Betty the Hippy Smidgen Thief."
If that description doesn't do anything for you, GTFO, because this badass comic series is for true fantasy/DnD fans.
Heroines with varying strengths and flaws instead of the typical extremes of "good over-the-top-cleavage model" and "evil over-the-top-cleavage model", heroines who get their asses kicked and have to manage to heal themselves instead of shrugging off stabs and arrow wounds like so many other comics/manga, a diverse caste with diverse body sizes (including black people and an Asian chick, for real), an intriguing story full of humor, and great full-color art complete this package. I couldn't ask for more.
Some of the negative reviews I've read are from people who just didn't get the fantasy/DnD references -- such as races, classes, gods, or lame-ass guys summoning lame-ass tentacles -- so it's just a matter of knowing what genre you're getting into here.
And to all the haters of this series, I defer to Hannah ~
Dang it! Okay I am hooked. I was relieved to see some development in the characters that got neglected in the first one. It gave some backstory tidbits through a clever device that were just enough to make you want more. I still don't really get the gore, though. If it doesn't just sort of disgust me, it bores me. I know it's some people's thing, but the whole point is to not care that someone just got their head chopped off. So who cares? I don't know. I'm no fun. This one also lets the characters have a little fluidity, they feel less like cartoons and more like people. And the artwork is just pretty and inventive and absorbing. Dave the Orc and his beardbirds might be my favorite idea for a character. Alright done gushing.
The best part of this one are the characters interactions with each other. The Rat Queens don't hold back or censor- just like old friends/groupies from DnD at two in the morning after playing since noon.
Also included: the ingredients and ratios for a drink called the "blood clot." Perfect libation for a gaming group.
I cannot say enough of Rat Queens. I love this series. It is one of the best new series in the comic book world, plus it is filled with strong women. I do and would recommend it to everyone!
