Everything in Samantha Conners life seemed to be in a holding pattern. Her sailboat racing season had fallen through and she was stuck in a dead end job that barely covered the bills. If it wasn't for the fact that her sister and niece were depending on her, she would have never been out on the water the day the billionaire's boat ran her over.
Robbie Saunders is convinced that he is the screw-up younger brother of billionaire Jack Saunders. One of his biggest rules was to never go out drunk on the water, but with the impending death of his father, he took the boat out after drinking to try and gain some clarity. Instead, he ran over Sam and barely managed to save her from drowning.
While the two had been childhood sweethearts, time and distance had made them into different people. When fate crashed them back together, Robbie finds the fiery young woman to be the person he needs to give him motivation and clarity. For Sam, Robbie is growing into the man she always knew he could be. A love blossoms and grows.
But what fate can give, it can also take away. A storm during the biggest freshwater sailing race of Sam's career changes everything. Will Sam and Robbie find a way to overcome the storm, or will the two only have memories of freshwater kisses?
Krista Lakes is a writer of romances that leave you feeling good and always have a happily ever after. She has two boys and a husband that keep her busy, not to mention two cats and a dog.
I liked the idea of this book, But the hero was rather watery and the heroine too quick to accept lavish gifts. I felt disconnected? From the characters which didn't seem well thought out. But! I would recommend this as a read to people who are just starting out in the romance genre, it's easy reading the the author is a very clean writer with that almost YA type of writing style.
Freshwater Kisses is another entry into Lakes’ Kisses Series and even though I have read these out of order, that didn’t affect the story at all. This was thrilling, fun, well written and light. I loved reading about sailing and while a lot went over my head, it never felt bogged down in too many details. Robbie was so sweet and I love that they were both adults throughout this. There was no obvious falls into drama or angst. They talked and communicated the whole way and I loved that. This was a perfect afternoon read and I definitely recommend to romance fans looking for a short getaway from the real world.
This book is 2 1/2 stars, but I just can't quite round this book up to three stars because that's what I would give most of the author's other books, with one exception. (Looking at my past reviews, I see that I should have assigned "Wishful Kisses" just one star instead of two, because this book was definitely better, however still flawed.) Anyway, I do usually enjoy them - they are light, easy romance stories. Quick reads.
But this book is lacking as some of the other reviews indicate. It's missing character development and doesn't build any romantic chemistry between the two main characters. Everything is too perfect and sweet.
Except the part at the very beginning (so I don't consider this a spoiler) when Sam's sailing partner is injured in a diving accident, possibly permanently, and this is supposedly going to end her sailing career. For the record, I have a good friend who happens to be a quadriplegic and won a silver medal in London. Nobody would ever tell her that her sailing career is over. Her crew for the paralympics is blind, and he's out cruising with his wife on their sailboat as I type this.
And there are NO ROPES on a sailboat. Ever. There are LINES.
**SPOILERS BELOW** - getting on soapbox now There is a lot of sailing and racing, and there are many, many technical mistakes with this. Firstly, Robbie buys her a J111? What? He buys her a $200-300K boat and she accepts it on the spot? (Actually more $$$ - I'm sure he would buy her a brand-new boat and I'm listing prices for used boats in any condition.) When they barely know each other? (see note above about the book not building their relationship). And a J111 is totally inappropriate for a someone considering an Olympic campaign (it's very easy to look up which boats are sailed in the Olympics - and there's only one keelboat which is sailed with three women). Yes, you CAN sail it double-handed, but you RACE it competitively with many more crew. Double-handed means a dinghy, such as a 420 or 470. I'm not even going to figure out how he manages to get a 36' boat from New York to a Caribbean island in a matter of days. And why do they use a "sea anchor" on the boat? (try wikipedia to find out what a sea anchor is) You would never get off your boat unless it was properly anchored, using a 25-35 pound anchor for that size boat, which you wouldn't "toss" in. Urgh. The real "Champion of Champions" race is a buoy race (as all Olympic sailing is as well as most one-design or match racing) not a distance race, and everyone sails identical boats that are provided. There is a double-handed race to Mackinac, and the record is just under 24 hours, set by a 77' yacht - there is NO WAY a 36' monohull boat could come close to that. It's great race, but it's not a race that's going to win sponsorship for a buoy racer. (This is fiction - the author should have made up a race.) And then there's the storm. Geesh this is stupid. When they fail to reef the main BEFORE the wind picks up, knowing that it's just going to get stronger. Any decent sailor knows that the boat will sail better, more balanced, and FASTER with less sail area up than too much. And how did Robbie injure his arm? I couldn't figure it out exactly, because he better not have wrapped his hand around the sheet - every decent sailor knows to NEVER do that. I will allow the stupidity in the storm scenario because this is fiction and the novel needed to build some tension somewhere. Off the soapbox now.
I liked this book but I had a harder time connecting to the characters then in the other books in the kisses series. I think is more than a 3 but not quite a 4. The story was sweet and Robbie taking car of Sam was adorable but I felt I missed something or needed more
Just couldn’t care for these two H’s. A pleasant enough read once you get past the hard to stomach, morally wise, beginning. A drunk person operating a vehicle, whether a boat or car, is still a person drunk and impaired. To run someone over, even if you save them, and then bail yourself out with money, is deplorable. Robbie had a semi valid reason for his grief but it is implied he has a drinking problem. Which magically disappears. Samantha takes their money instead of pressing charges, after nearly being killed, then accepts, what I assume is a very expensive boat, without even a token protest. So a bit of money grubbing to start but then it really just sails along, pardon the pun, with nothing exciting happening or any real ups or downs. I remember reading this whole series either bought or through kindle unlimited years ago. My original reviews are missing but I am reading these as I feel like it.
Samantha is a interesting character that I would have liked to have gotten to know a bit better as well as our “hero” Robbie. Unfortunately I felt it was a little bit of rushed development and I didn’t get to go along with the journey of growth. That being said a really enjoyable read with minimal turmoil which worked well for a light easy read
"Freshwater Kisses" might be my new favorite of the series. I love, love, love, Sam and Robbie's story. Robbie starts out as a hot mess, but ends up pulling it all together and being a super sweet character. Sam has her own set of flaws, but is the perfect compliment to Robbie. Great easy read for a day at the beach or a long weekend.
Samantha took sailing lesson with Robbie, while they were young, until her family moved away. Now 11 years later she finds herself in the hospital because of Robbie. Seeing him for the first time in so many years is amazing.
This is a sweet love story with family oriented characters and a little heat. This is the first I've read by this author and definitely would like to read more.
Freshwater Kisses: A Billionaire Love Story is book three of the Kisses Series by Krista Lake. It is different in that it includes sailing and does not have its setting on the Caribbean island. It’s final setting is on the Great Lakes near Mackinaw Island. Samantha Conners has returned to Winchester to help her sister, Grace, raise Avery. Grace lost her husband to a fire and has now lost Aunt Betty, who was helping her with Avery. Sam had just lost her double sailing partner to injury and her sailing season was over. There was no time to get another partner and she had lost her sponsors. Besides, family came first. Grace had raised her since their parents had died and she and her husband had continued to welcome her in their home until she left for college on a sailing scholarship. So Sam returned to the town in which she learned to sail. She had been partnered with Robbie Saunders, son of billionaire Daniel Saunders, in learning to sail. Their sailing lessons ended eleven years ago when Sam’s father left DS Oil and Gas to go out on his own. Leaving your best friend is never easy but was especially hard on a middle schooler. Robbie Saunders had continued to sail but alone. He raced singles because he couldn’t find anyone he trusted to sail doubles. He had one strict rule- no alcohol consumption while sailing. He was a hell raiser on land but never on the water. The one time he broke his own rule was the day Sam was out windsurfing. They collided and Sam was knocked out. Robbie had the presence of mind to dive in and save her then bring her back to the hospital. He was currently in jail until Sam decided whether to file charges or not. Rachel, his brother Jack’s assistant, came to the hospital to assure Sam her medical bills and pay for lost work time would be paid by the Saunders’ family. Sam told her she would not press charges on her old friend. You just didn’t do that to friends. Were they still friends? Would Sam ever be able to go back to competitive sailing? Would Robbie ever get over his father’s illness and subsequent death? Would he ever feel good enough for Daniel Saunders? Would Sam and Robbie ever get their friendship back? The twists and turns that the book takes keep your interest. Krista Lakes manages to find new ways to keep your interest in her books.
I have read the entire Kisses Series written by Krista Lakes and was very pleased she decided to give us Robbie's (and Sam's) story in Freshwater Kisses. Although the first two books in this series didn't tell us much about Robbie, book 3 in the series did give me a small taste making me want to know more.
Robbie and Sam have known each other since they were children. Best friends from the beginning with the same love for the water, sailing and spending time together. But when Sam's father makes the decision to move away, although they promise each other to always keep in touch, things don't always work out as planned. Eleven years later and now grown, Sam decides to move back to the East Coast to help her sister raise her niece. When fate steps in one night and brings Robbie and Sam back together, they quickly rekindle their friendship. Though they both struggle with losses in their lives, both in the past and present, they are drawn back together to the love of sailing they have always shared as well as being together.
This is a very sweet story of love with some sexy and steamy moments of two hearts born into this world already connected and their souls destined to be together for a lifetime. Despite being taken away from each other, fate steps in (as it tends to do) and as their lives collide they are quickly drawn back together.
Though each book in the Kisses Series can be read on their own, I definitely feel I got much more out of all of the characters reading their stories from the beginning. It made me feel I was a part of the family as well as feeling a connection and closeness to their lives and their stories. Krista Lakes is unquestionably on my list of “must read” authors, and I’m looking forward to more Kisses.
Freshwater Kisses by Krista Lakes is the thrilling next installment in the Kisses Series. Freshwater Kisses follows Robbie Saunders and his childhood friend Samantha Conners reconnected and past affections rekindling. Like her previous books, there were some mistakes but I can overlook them for the most part. Robbie and Sam have their flaws, making them appear real and how their paths crossed again after all those years actually made sense. The intimate scenes were quite alluring. The moments where the narrator - Sam - was tense or scared, I could feel it almost rolling off the pages.
After Dean and Rachel's incredible story, Krista Lake's has seriously stepped up the pedestal.
Unfortunately, although this book is really good. It fell flat from the previous book.
Sam and Robbie are childhood sweethearts who shared their love for sailing but because of the distance their communication stopped.
Robbie still reeling from the death of his father is coping through alcohol. One drunken night he sailed and rammed straight to Sam's. After the accident, they reconnected.
Th thing with the book, is there are no highs and lows. It was actually pretty straight. So it was a bit boring.
Although i have to stay the technical aspect of the sailing was really good. I can actually feel them racing and sailing.
It would have been great if there was Robbie's POV, I really want to know how he's feeling after everything that happened to his family.
Looking for a break from unlimited angst and lovers being torn apart again and again? Then this is your book. This is a story about Robbie and Sam...childhood best friends. After 11 years of separation they meet up and after a few hiccups they begin to hang out again. This story is about the evolution of a relationship from childhood best friends to adults with stronger feelings. It's a simple story of a love that keeps growing. After the beginning of the story there is no angst. This is a happy romance if not realistic. It's escapism at it's best. For me this was a nice break from the heart breaking, gut wrenching contemporary romance. It is not the most well written book and like I said before the storyline is not at all realistic. But never the less I enjoyed it. It definitely has a HEA!
For some reason I just couldn't get into this one like I had the others in the series and I'm not sure why. I mean I liked it but I wasn't in love with it like I was the others. Robbie, that boy is something else, "if you mean, crashed into you, knocked you unconscious and then had the decency to dive in and get you out of the mess I created, then yes. I saved you. But I'm not a hero. Not by a long shot." And he does his best to please Samantha, "I wanted to make this evening special. I wanted to look my best for you." Also we learn that you should never wake a sleeping beast: I reach behind me and ran my hand down to his loins. When I touched him, his member responded with a jump. "Wake up," I coaxed. "If you poke him, he'll get mad!" Robbie said, laughing.
The book was amazing. I read it for a day and I gotta say that Krista Lakes is becoming one of my favorite authors :)The characters in the book are so real and lovable. It was great to see how Robbie and Sam reconnect and fall in love like they are meant to be together. I also loved how they helped each other to overcome their demons and heal the heartbreaks in their lives.
If you haven't read any of Krista Lakes' books, this is a good place to start. The books in the Kisses series are connected but they can be read also as individual stories or in whatever order you want. Just be warned, once you start you won't be able to stop before you read all of them ;) . In my case, considering that I've read all of them, I already cannot wait for the next one :)
I have to say this was a wonderful book, with so many books out there to buy I am not sure I would have found this any other way. Thank you so much Krista for giving me this book and for writing it. I will now be buying your books.
There is nothing like child young love, leaving and coming back together to find love again. This book has that, just a sweet store about two peoples hearts broken due to parents moving away, losing touch and meeting again years later. He was and still is her hero, comes through when she needs him, in return she is also his hero making him a better person. Then the storm comes, will they make it through or will it be the death of one or both. Will they find the happy ever after that we all want?
A cute, sweet and easy to read love story. Sailing buddies, Robbie and Sam were childhood friends who prove the old addage "they were meant to be". Time and miles separated them for years as they lived their lives and went through their own ups and downs only to be brought(or should I say crashed) back together to race another day. This book is not as dramatic as the first in the series but continues on the line that true love prevails. I am now hoping for a HEA for Grace...who cares if the nice sheriff is a few years older?!!! It was nice to see and follow up on all the characters from the rest of the series, my favorites being Owen and Kaylee. Great epilogue!!
Another entry into the Krista Lakes Kisses Series, this is Sam and Robby’s story.
Childhood best friends separated, but fate steps in bringing them back together again. It’s not an easy journey, but love will find a way.
Similarly written, book three in the series is packed with some swoon worthy moments and some sizzle, but this storyline was a little more angsty. I love that the characters I’ve grown to love continue to show up, even if briefly, in each installment. Each book can be read as standalone.
Absolutely adore the Kisses series and this book was no exception. I think Krista Lakes is a fabulous author and always look forward to reading her books. This book was very well written and of course the characters were all perfect. The fact that each of the Kisses books end without a cliffhanger makes me love her books that much more. Sam & Robbie's love story is such a sweet story and made me swoon over their story. Look forward to more books by Krista:))
After all I've seen about these books on facebook I was eager to grab this one when it came up free the other day. But.. I just couldn't get into the story. We get barely any personality on the main characters & the insta-love is just too much. And I read a LOT of romance books full of insta-love..
I wish the author had filled the story out a bit more - it felt like a rough draft to me. I felt no connection and no desire to read on about other characters.
The story of Robbie and Sam and their sailing adventures was entertaining and a joy to read. I hope their will be another story regarding Matt and possibly Grace. I want them to have a happy ever after also. Then I hope you write a novel to continue all of their lives and the children they all have. I enjoyed every word you have written Me. Lakes and look forward to your next project.
Samantha and Robbie were friends and sailing partners when they were kids until Sam moved away. Their paths cross when Sam moves in with her sister to help her raise her daughter. Robbie is struggling with his father's illness and is on the path of self-destructing. Sam has always remembered her childhood friend and is drawn to Robbie even with his problems. I have loved the Kisses series and look forward to reading more.
Samantha new Robbie as a boy they were sailing partner as they learned about sailing. But at age 12 she had to move away with her family. They didn't end up staying in touch. Samantha did dual sailing was set to make Olympic team until her partner was injured. Sam goes to help her sister with her daughter and is back in town running into Robbie. Robbie has been hot on the sailing circuit and the bad boy on land. I enjoyed their romance and the sailing. Quite a beautiful love story.
Wow I think this is my favorite so far!!! This is a book of true love. Sam is a determined lady with excellent sailing experience she can thank Robbie for. Robbie is a rebellious wind in his hair sailor that taught her all she knows. They were best friends. Tragedy happens and they are brought back together! This series is amazing and I could read over and over! This is a must read!
The last book in the Kisses Series is about Jack's younger brother, Robbie and his long time friend of Samantha. Freshwater Kisses wrapped up the series wonderfully with Robbie making peace with his life and how his father felt about him. For Samantha, it was a chance to reach a dream... a dream that both of them can accomplish together.
