The Yogi's Roadmap

Rate this book
While the techniques of Yoga are well expounded upon in the West, little guidance has been offered to integrate these practices with our emotions and psychology. Traditionally, the Patanjali Yoga Sutra is recognized as the definitive guide, offering perennial wisdom in navigating life’s challenges through the cultivation of viveka khyati, discriminating wisdom. In The Yogi’s Roadmap, Bhavani Maki offers unique, contemporary insights into the Yoga Sutra, revealing that deep, personal inquiry is both the means and the experience, of embodying our true spiritual awakening.

I was deeply suspicious that this wouldn't be another self help journey white person of privileged ego driven explanation of ones experience with Buddhism. It is not that at all. I'm no authority, but the level of understanding and knowledge the author brings to the yogic practice and the Sutras that inform Buddhist philosophy just resonated with me on an intellectual level. This book does an outstanding job of showing the wisdom accumulated over thousands and thousands of years which any of us can benefit from to help navigate this soul-body-mind we call human experience.

This is the second time I've read this book. Underlined things that spoke to me and will go back to this book again and again. As a long time yoga practitioner and yoga teacher, I'm thrilled this is in my library.

A book that I dip into over and over again. It's never far from my fingertips when I'm feeling studious about life.
