Use DISC to discover profound hidden patterns of human behavioral style, gain deeper self-awareness, maximize your personal strengths, and influence others more powerfully than ever before! Taking Flight illuminates the proven DISC four-style model of human behavior, and shows how to use it to become a far more effective leader, salesperson, or teacher; revitalize your career; build deeper personal relationships; fully leverage your natural gifts, and empower everyone around you. Drawing on their immense experience coaching executives and training world-class organizations, Merrick Rosenberg and Daniel Silvert introduce DISC through a fable that's quick, fun, and easy-to-understand. You'll discover why you "click" with some people and "clank" with others, and what really drives your decisions and actions. You'll learn exactly how to identify others' behavioral styles and choose the best ways to interact with them. You'll walk through creating a personal action plan for improvement -- and then systematically making the most of your strengths, working around your weaknesses, and supercharging your personal performance! If you're already familiar with DISC, this book will help you use it more effectively than ever before. If you're new to DISC, it will change your life -- just as it has for thousands before you!

It exceeded my expectations! I'm not used to reading these types of books, but I really enjoyed it. The parable used, with the society of birds, might be considered too childish, but sometimes it is important to simplify the way information is conveyed. I felt that this book could be a good tool to improve the ability of self-analysis and understanding of those around us, which can be extremely complex. It addresses the different applications, particularly at a professional level, which was the reason I bought the book. If we were all able to apply 20% of what is described in this book, we would have fewer conflicts and misunderstandings in our relationships.

Excedeu as minhas expectativas!
Corny as hell. BUT! I didn’t hate it. I enjoy “self help” + business because I’m a doofus and am oblivious. These things helps me. I like learning about myself and others and why we sometimes don’t click. Simple concept. Good application.
This book is very interesting, I really enjoyed it, my step mom lent it to me to help understand my father, and I did help me understand him a bit more (although he refuses to read it) I personally am Cs personality, and I believe he is Di personality Definitely would recommend reading
The book describes four most common types of personalities (DISC) in a very approachable way. It starts with a story about birds and how each of them approach common problem. Because of that, it is very easy to read, even if you're not currently in a mood to focus and analyze the characteristics of personalities. The second half of the book describes in more detail what distinguishes each type and how you can understand others better once you learn to understand their personality type and thus how they prefer to communicate. It's a good book you can read in a relatively short time before bedtime; fast to read, easy to understand and remember. Obviously it's not very scientific or sophisticated, but it allows you to learn more about yourself and I think everyone would gain something reading it.
Review excerpted from a review of this and its sequel on my blog Dragon Bite Books.
This book was required reading for the management team at my current position and not a book that otherwise would likely have crossed my radar. It explains and explores the DISC personalities that spring from the work of William Moulton Marston.
In Taking Flight, Merrick Rosenberg and Daniel Silvert imbue four characters, different species of birds who are sharing the same forest, with each of the personality types and create a story around these characters and a chameleon who helps them to work together.
As a work of fiction, even were it a children’s middle grade book, even compared to the beginning chapter books that I have read within the last two years, the text is subpar, its prose in particular lacking the luster that I want in a fictional work, the characters by necessity lacking nuance, and the dialogue unnatural.
As a nonfiction piece, particularly as a nonfiction book that would be sold from the business section, it is far easier and more enjoyable reading for me than most nonfiction, the information couched as it is in a fictional story. It’s a nonfiction book for those (like me) who don’t read a lot of nonfiction.
It is worth noting that Taking Flight’s protagonists are all male.
This book HAS helped me and our management team be aware at least of our own and others’ personality types and of our own strengths and the strengths of other members with different personality types. And I find myself using Rosenberg and Silvert’s labels instead of DISC. A quick Google tells me that I didn’t even have the correct words associated with each initial of DISC, but I know that D is for eagles and I is for parrots, S is for doves, and C is for owls.
I liked it. I took the Our Community Listens course in the St. Louis area, which was based on helping participants learn and understand their DISC behavior profiles in order to communicate better. As suggested by the facilitators, I followed up by reading this book. It helped to clarify my understanding of my style and others. The narrative centered around four birds and their interactions to solve a problem in the forest. The story of the eagle, parrots, doves and owls who were guided by the chameleon was a creative and insightful way to teach the behavior styles.
Bird styles are an excellent way to remember the DISC Styles
Anyone wanting to improve their communication with others and remember the four DISC styles should read this book.
I have understood the concepts of the DISC styles for several years but could never remember them that well. By assigning a bird to each, it makes the DISC styles easier to remember. While the book’s fable is a little corny, it does a good job of giving an overview of DISC and tying a bird to each DISC Type.
Quick easy read explains the DISC personality model. I skimmed through a lot of the fable but picked up on what it was trying to convey. The Eagle (me), the parrot (sorta me, and my husband, I’m a Di), The dove (sister to the T), and the owl (Hannah and Carol I think) work together to solve a solution using their own DISC profile. This is a very BEGINNER book to the DISC. Great if you’ve never heard of it.
Excellent read on understanding behavioural styles of human beings.
The author brings out the understanding of the gmfiur behavioural styles using a fable and makes it an interesting read. The book is very engaging and brings out all the aspects of the DISC styles. An added advantage of this book is it helps us understand these styles in different environments and thus helps us build the right perspectives towards the DISC. A wonderful, helpful and fun book to read.
This book has some tremendous things to say, but I really disliked the first half of the book, which was a parable to show how each of the DISC styles functions. I found that part really tedious. But after that, from page 119 on, I found it fascinating.
It was very entertaining, enjoyable and engaging. I could not stop reading. He was eloquent and provided a lot of information and examples. This book is a MUST read.
