Vastrick Security are hired to keep an African Stateswoman alive for just 72 hours until she can deliver a speech that will rock the world. Not too difficult a task unless several African despots, rogue security forces and the world’s deadliest assassin want her dead. The second in the deeply authentic City of London Thriller series has shocks at every turn as the plot races from London to Cuba and on to the USA. A gripping story told in around 100,000 words.

A great book

This book was a good book. It kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. There were a lot of twists including one big surprise that I never had come across before.

Keeping a Stateswoman alive for 72 hours so she can eventually deliver a speech couldn't go wrong. Right?

I was a bit let down from this book because the first book was so good. I just expected too much I guess. I will continue the series because I own them and I'm a completionist at heart. I just don't like rambling monologues. Its not my thing. But I did like that the villain was a woman which is unusual in these types of books. The cunning, intelligent, and murderous undercover agent being a female is cool and rare.

So lets see what happens next.

Again, I enjoyed the second book in this series. Dee is involved in protecting a couple who are due to speak at a conference in London about the human rights issues at the mines back home and the institutionalised corruption within their and our governments.
I won't give more detail so as not to spoil the book for others, but Fogarty the next book is already open on my kindle

JJ is assuredly having fun. In "The Chameleon" he even allows himself a self-deprecating gust appearance within his story.

I am still enjoying his work, although now that I have downloaded "Fogarty" I realize that the three novels have to date cost a total of EUR 0.77. This is an unwelcome reminder that self-publishing should probably not be regarded as source of earnings, best seen as a sideline, pastime or hobby.

The fun that JJ is having reminds me of the joy of telling stories to a child. I well remember my daughter insisting that the tale should not end... "What happens next, Daddy?"

JJ is never at a loss to come up with 'what happens next'... although the bonding between Emma Peel and Modesty Blaise (nor really, but the simile sprang to mind) came as a bit of a surprise. Never mind, the entertainment remains first rate. The writer also knows full well that if the reader has enjoyed ninety-five percent of the narrative he or she will settle for a preposterous final five percent.

I readily admit that I shall continue to demand from the author "What happens next?"

At 6 chapters in I nearly gave up as the book was a total mess with numerous povs and mixed tenses galore, often in the same sentence! Reading further I found the story itself with its different strings quite interesting and the Chameleon's back history even more so, plus the slow reveal of who the Chameleon was most enjoyable.

Having finally completed the book I have very mixed feelings about it. There are too many characters and far too much exposition, I'm still recovering from a two and half page description of someone logging into their computer. As to the ending, now that was unexpected... while I'd like to know just what is going on I'm not certain I can put up with the writing style in order to do so.

I found this book on the Kindle Store for free and thought that I would give it a try.I really enjoyed reading this 'action thriller'. It kept me hooked and kept up the same pace throughout the book. I would recommend to readers who enjoy thrillers. I am very glad that I came across this book as I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I wouldn't say that it is my favourite thriller book that I have read but it definately isn't the worst one. There was a few spelling and grammer mistakes which I kind of expect to find in Kindle versions of a novel but it did loose it a star. It is a good book to read for anyone over 13 who enjoys thriller novels.

Having read Bentleys previous book 48hrs I decided to give the follow up a go, I wasn't disappointed either as this is a brilliant book in the city of London series.

The chameleon is a hired assassin who does the governments dirty work for them, dee Hammond is an employee of Vastrick security and when they are hired to keep a pair of African delegates safe so they can deliver a damming speech on slavery And corruption in Marat an African country. Hammond and the Chameleon lock horns in this well written action packed thriller

I really struggled to get into this book, was very very slow, speed up greatly then went off the boil for a bit before finishing really well.

I had decided part way through that I wouldn't bother with the next books, but have changed my mind now and whilst I won't rush to read as I have a huge to read pile I will go back to the series.

The second of the City of London Thrillers, I read this first and was enthralled from early in the book. Great storyline about the Chameleon assassin, with a final and unexpected twist at the end. No spoilers, read it yourself. :)

My only, very small, criticism, and I am being nit-picky, is that there are spelling and punctuation errors that escaped the proofreader. They don't spoil the story but they do irritate this reader.

Really liked this 'James Bond' type of action thriller, although not my usual read. I would have given it 5 stars except (IMO) a tad too much intricate detail, like description of buildings and how to pick a lock, etc. Found myself skimming through these to get to the exciting bits and was glad to note that the 'baddie' had some saving graces, or did she?

I was rather disappointed with this book. The first one in the series was ok and that's what prompted me to read Chameleon. However, the story was too long and contained far to much detail in places. The typos did annoy me in the end, there are lots! The ending was unexpected and it just didn't seem plausible to me. It doesn't make me want to read more novels from this author.

We didn't start the fire!

The first third was good and fast paced....the middle DRAGGED....most of the last third returned to form...the ending STUNK! Often as I was reading thru the story the problems kept coming back to Billy Joel's lyric "British politician sex"!

I've rated it as OK. Now I quite enjoyed the first half of the book, however the 2nd half played out in a manner that was too fortuitous and convenient for me.
I much preferred the authors previous book, 48 hours.

The follow up to 48 Hours...Unfortunately the author insists on giving history lessons every time the story gets going. As such I got to page 68 and gave up.

The second in the series, and also free on Kindle... enjoyed it... found the author's cameo appearance hilarious!! Quite exciting, but again for being 'set in London' not enough London.

Complete and utter rubbish. Child like writing. Totally pointless plot.

Brilliant action thriller. Believable characters, excellent use of humour , totally immersive storyline and non stop action. Gives Bourne a run for its money! This must be made into a movie.
