It is a fine collection of interviews of Yan Lizhong,a journalist who has special perspective. It doesnt focus on celebrities but grass-roots who are unique but do not noticed by common people, including couriers, country doctors and so on.

Overall, this provides an interesting snippet into the lives of a random sample of people in China.

The issue I have with this is the same issue I have with most of these Chinese essay anthologies: the moment you start to finally step into the narrator’s world, the essay ends, and you’re suddenly in a completely different point of view. And the common thread between all of these essays, which reminds me of 美满【淡豹首部短篇小说集,在人海中打捞生活的骸骨,用现实的星星点点去注解幻想】, is the sense of being stifled, of not being happy with your current situation and feeling powerless to change it.

I guess this is a classic case of 我们都没有错 只是不适合. If you like essay anthologies about how other people live, you'll probably like this too.
