Patrick Zac specializes in horror and weird fiction, using his own hybrid writing style which combines the best elements of both American and British English, as well as comic-book storytelling techniques.
This guy knows a thing or two about pacing. There's a fine craftsmanship to this short story that's unexpected from emerging writers. The short excels at sneaking up on you by giving horrific form to a conceptual idea that could've failed if it weren't for Patrick Zac's ability to build strong character foundations, and inject just the right amount of detail in his descriptions to keep the reader engaged. Superb work!
I give it 4 stars instead of 5 only because of some spelling and grammar issues (few as they were). I also found the choice of formatting distracting at times (single vs double quotes for dialogue), and other similar style choices. Story-wise, this short was gold.
