With so many great resources on the web available for SMEs it's difficult to find the marketing solutions that will work. Sarah-Jane White has collated the best ones in this ebook for you to use as a guide, inspirational tool and if you just do one of the tips, once a week, you should increase your company's visibility both on and offline in no time!
Updated: Pretty much half of the websites this book mentions have now been closed down. Ergo, this book is now defunct.
Not the worst thing that has ever existed, but pretty much standard for the price (free).
A few marketing ideas were new to me, which considering the amount of blogs and other resources I've read in the past two years was quite a surprise. Nothing revelationary, just sparking ideas.
Fair enough, but having 49 and not 50 makes my eye twitch a bit too much...
Many useful advices applied to any successful social lives, not alone businesses
It was written long ago talking about tons of obsolete tools whose links don't even work anymore. But the book does offer many crucial advices for readers.
01 Forget the old rules and make sure you communicate
...Talk to your customers as you would a friend. Forget the mask of professionalism. Online is about real people, talking to real people.
03 Investing in a blog
...For extra gravitas, you may consider inviting industry analysts, the leading journalists or other thought leaders in your industry or markets as guests to write posts for your blog...
22 Keywords are key
...only optimise a page or article for 2 or 3 keywords or phrases as any more than this dilutes the impact each keyword has on your rankings.
23 Find the latest buzz and contribute
Find a topic on Twitter that will interest your niche and share it via a tweet, a post or a status update on your social network. Keep your update short and if tweeting it’s good to add ‘Please RT’ at the end to encourage further sharing.
24 Step up
A great way to give back, promote your business and feel good about yourself is to volunteer in your area. Help out at a local event and you’ll be amazed at the great connections you’ll make. If you’re not sure of how to find these events or what to do, visit...
25 Time to ping your hub
...is a great way to drive traffic to your website. All you need to do is sign up for a free account and publish your articles. Make sure you have used your keywords in the title, beginning, middle and end but don’t over do it. A keyword density of 1-3% is enough or Google might consider it spam. Put a couple of links back to your relevant website pages in the article...
30 Click here
Don’t use this phrase everywhere on your site on its own. The user has to read the whole paragraph (which they probably won’t) to understand why they should click there. Try using phrases like “Download our price list (PDF)” or “Listen to our Top Marketing Tips podcast” as your links. These are great for search engine optimisation relevancy too.
34 Time to speak up
Find local, relevant conferences and events and offer to speak for free on an area of expertise you possess. This can be at your local chamber of commerce or other associations that relate to your industry. This is great for generating a press story, blog posts, etc. and of course you’ll have a room full of people interested in your industry to network with.
35 Let your answerphone be an ambassador too
If someone calls after hours remember that your answerphone message also represents your brand. Instead of the usual “sorry we’re not here, please leave a message”, how about “we’re so exhausted from giving great customer service we need a little sleep. Leave your number and we’ll call you back first thing in the morning.”
36 Enhance your profile
Use your Flickr profile to advertise your company, products, services, etc. In your profile, Flickr asks you to describe yourself and lets you give your website name and address. Make your company logo your Flickr icon. Use your profile to describe who you are and what your business does, but make it informational not sales led or you might be accused of "exploiting Flickr for commercial purposes".
38 Sharing on LinkedIn
Post documents, presentations, share what you're reading. While you may not sell on LinkedIn, your marketing materials may...
39 Whitepapers
Write a whitepaper. It sounds dull but it's a great way of stating your expertise. Put the papers on your website and make it easy for people to download them to read at their leisure.
The British and American punctuation rules are mixed without coherence: Over all, NOT bad for a first edition.
Still need to be revised and edited maybe one last time to fulfill the disclaimer on "About this eBook" page: "Whilst every effort has been made to ensure an optimal reading experience..."
The content is useful, however most pages comprise just one or two short paragraphs.
This 'book' is really a marketing vehicle for a whole range of other 'paid for' books and a Business Club. In fact the adverts comprise 20% of the book.
Many broken links; probably because the book is now quite old.
This book is like having a marketing coach whispering in your ear. You can be a marketing novice or a marketing pro and this book will not insult your experience or lack of experience. The issue I have is there are so many good nuggets of knowledge, it is hard to decide which ones to use first.
This is not a good read...this is great and priceless information that anyone seriously wanting to get started or get a better grip on his/her business should read!
This is a simple, straightforward book of both easy and practical steps to help you market in multiple ways. Great for beginners and professionals. Highly recommended.
This book has some amazing info. I haven’t tried any of it yet considering I just read it but I plan to in the next month and will try and post another review.
I am very honest when rating books because I feel an honest review can save valuable time for other reader's. This book did give information, a lot of it, on marketing for a business but I feel that all the information given was very...uhh...basic information I could have found on Google. I am looking for marketing strategies that I could use for my farm and unfortunately this book is more of a "let me tell you what you already know" type of book.
I gave this book 4 stars because it does contain a lot of links to websites that could prove to be useful. This is a great book for people who haven't surfed Google for marketing answers before downloading it. A plus would be that it on!y took around 15 minutes to read, so overall there was no harm done.
I actually took notes when I read this book. Even though it is an older book and some of the information is outdated, I found some really helpful tips in it. It was a quick read, which I like.
I read quite a few of the reviews on Amazon.com, most of them bad, and for someone in the business it is probably old news. But for the average person wanting to promote their products or themselves this is a collection of information that is all in one place so you don’t have to spend endless hours searching the web, and I am all for that! I find nothing more aggravating than stopping what I am doing to waste time searching for things.
Much of this information I already knew too, but it is hard to remember everything when you are busy promoting your latest product or service. I would love to see an updated version of this book. I thought it was a great read with useful information.
Now, I don't think I would recommend this book to anyone in the marketing business, I doubt it would be helpful to them at all. But for the average person with a blog/etsy shop/book/etc., that is having trouble with the marketing aspect, I think it would be very helpful. It has many tips in one place, not to mention short and easy to read. Some of the information was outdated, but I think it would still be a good start to anyone needing help to plan their first marketing strategy.
Great book, had a lot of ideas I didn't know about, some were redundant, but for those not around social media the entire book would be a great help. Look forward to implementing a lot of these ideas in 2013.

I recommend this product because I loved all the information the author gave on how to network online. It was a lot of information but it was easy to understand. I will recommend t media qhis to anyone who is starting an online business or want to learn about social media and is just a beginner.
As a business owner, there's always opportunity for growth! This simple guide gives quick and easy ways to land the eye of the public. It was a great refresher for social media strategies as well.
