Rate this book
Renegade Unbounded are the last line of defense between the ruthless Emporium and unsuspecting humanity, but how long can they continue the struggle alone?

Three weeks of waiting to free their allies from an Emporium compound in New York City have Erin Radkey and her Renegade friends on edge. Frustrations run even higher when they uncover a new Emporium plot involving the nations’ highest leaders, a plan full of more deceit than Erin imagined possible. With each passing day, the pendulum swings closer to world-wide Emporium rule and mortal servitude.

Making sense of her personal life is every bit as challenging as being a guardian of humanity. Erin fears that her increasing abilities will alienate everyone around her, including those who love her most. Her relationship with Ritter Langton has been on hold these past anxious weeks, and though their connection runs undeniably deep, the constant presence of the mortal Keene McIntyre adds to the tension between them. Choices loom before Erin that affect not only her personal life but how she does her job.

With political intrigue and non-stop action, the Escape adds satisfying dimension to the Unbounded world, whose characters and storyline have captured the imaginations of thousands of readers.

Teyla Branton

Teyla Rachel Branton grew up avidly reading science fiction and fantasy and watching Star Trek reruns with her large family. They lived on a little farm where she loved to visit the solitary cow and collect (and juggle) the eggs, usually making it back to the house with most of them intact. On that same farm she once owned thirty-three gerbils and eighteen cats, not a good mix, as it turns out. Teyla always had her nose in a book and daydreamed about someday creating her own worlds. She is now married, mostly grown up, and has seven kids, so life at her house can be very interesting (and loud), but writing keeps her sane. She thrives on the energy and daily amusement offered by her children, the semi-ordered chaos giving her a constant source of writing material. Grabbing any snatch of free time from her hectic life, Teyla writes novels full of mystery, romance, and imagination. She warns her children that if they don’t behave, they just might find themselves in her next book! She’s been known to wear pajamas all day when working on a deadline, and is often distracted enough to burn dinner. (Okay, pretty much 90% of the time.) A sign on her office door reads: DANGER. WRITER AT WORK. ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK. She loves writing fiction and traveling, and she hopes to write and travel a lot more. She also loves shooting guns, martial arts, and belly dancing. She has worked in the publishing business for over twenty years.

I happily stumbled upon the Unbounded world by accident - perhaps it was from a first-book freebie? After devouring the first book, I immediately had to read the second; and learned that book 3 (this one) was to be published fall 2013. Was I excited? Yes, I was. I couldn't wait! I was sucked into the Unbounded world and will eagerly be anticipating the next installment. Sadly, that's apparently going to be an entire year away.

This is book three in a series- I highly recommend that you start reading book one and two before delving into this one. I would not call this a standalone book - there are too many characters and ideas that you will have no idea about. The characters in the previous books are in subsequent books. If you were to try to read this without having read the previous books, you will pretty much be asking - who's Ritter? Tenika? Dmitri? Keene? etc.

If you like stories that get wrapped up with nice bows, then I suggest another series. All three books have had endings which leave you immediately wanting more. You do not get the happily ever after that you might want in a romance genre. You're going to get a plotline that has a resolution, but immediately a hook is immediately cast for the next installment. You're going to want to know what happens with xxx?!?!

I won't give spoilers - but I'm going to say - YAY to Keene! I cannot wait to see more of him. He seems like such an awesome guy. Ritter- mmmmm, Ritter, where's my own real-life Ritter? Erin - she's growing a lot. I can't wait to see where her character ends up.

Anyways, can’t wait for the next book!!

While this one starts down a standard urban-fantasy trope of increasing the central character's power, in this case it is done without having the entirety of the plot solved by it and gradually occurs rather than immediately manifesting. That the love interest is also further explored, in a far more adult fashion, rather than silly "oh I need rescuing by big strong man despite my independence," helps this book continue the fun of the series. The action continues to be well done, the moral difficulties truly pressing in a world of near-immortals and the dialogue is fun with real growth. Not one to start with since the other two set up the plot of this one, but even then it's still a great read on its own.

The intensity just builds even more with this 3rd book in the series. Erin Radtke is an unbeatable heroine and the cast of characters, Ritter, Marie, Oliver, Ava, Demitri and Keene just keep taking the hits and giving them back.

This is an engrossing sequel and I just fell into #4. This is one writer that knows how to bring the drama and keep the story line going and twisting it just a bit more to wring out every bit of interest a reader has. Perhaps Teyla Branton is now so much writer as she is a magician with words.

One of the things I really like is that the characters are well written - there maybe some romantic angst in the story line, but Ms. Branton lets that progress - she doesn't keep relationships in stasis - they are fluid and as much a hook as anything else. This is a rich, powerful and wonderful read. Fellow readers...ENJOY!!

This is the third book in the unbounded series and the fast paced, nail biting pace keeps you on your toes. This book doesn’t disappoint. Another clean read.

The Renegades are on edge as they try valiantly to rescue their allies from a compound in New York City. They are scared that if the Emporium have too much power they will not only rule but mortals will be forced into servitude. Erin is on a rollercoaster of her own making, her abilities are increasing but she fears that she will alienate everyone around her. Although she has deep feeling for Ritter, he relationship with Keene is also on her mind, but with Keene being a mortal, it makes things complicated.

Another great read in this series full of action.

This one is set in New York.
They have to find the kidnapped ones who belong to their group.
But getting them free isn't easy.

They also discover some more secrets which they have to do something with.
Next that Erin finds out more about her own abilities.

Great read again, you can read it is a stand alone, but why would you?
The whole series is a good one.

This is another enjoyable story in the Unbounded series, which is filled with action and a great sense of place.

The first-person narrative gives it a more in-depth feel, while the quality of writing makes for a compelling read.

The characters are intriguing, their powers a mystery and the plot has the right feel-good v evil at its best.

We can only guess what comes next.

Highly recommended.

I am addicted to this series. This is one of the best series I have read in a long time. It is action packed with twist and turns in the series that keeps you hooked.

Wanting to know what will happen next and keeps you frustrated when cliffhangers happens, or when a character says: “We’ll talk about that later.” Really? I want to know now! My impatience shows.

I even have my mother hooked on this series.

I'm really trying not to just binge-read this whole series, but it's tempting. The name on this one says it all: Escape. That's exactly what these books are for me - a chance to forget about the real world for a while. Lots of action, fascinating characters, and just enough romance to make me want to know what happens next.

Another story of battles won and lost

This series explores a unique world "that could happen" or be just beyond our understanding. The characters grow more and more complex as does the intricacies of the Unbounded world. Fun reads.

The Escape is the third book of the Unbounded Series by Teyla Branton. If you aren’t familiar with the series, here’s a brief overview.

Erin is Unbounded meaning she is quasi-immortal. Like other Unbounded she was born like every other human but around the time she turned thirty she experienced the Change. The Unbounded have the ability to recover from serious, injuries that to mortals would be fatal. Their bodies are designed to survive and regenerate. This also means that their reproduction is almost a certain consequence of sexual intercourse.

Erin might live for two thousand years unless someone severs the connections between her brain, hearts and reproductive organs. She belongs to a group of other Unbounded called Renegades. A rival group called the Emporium wants to take over the world and subjugate all mortals to servitude and to do so they must overcome resistance of the Renegades either converting them to their cause of eliminated them – usually the latter unless the renegade possesses an ability the Emporium desires for their breeding experiments.

Meanwhile a group of mortals called the Hunters want to get rid of all both groups of Unbounded, Fortunately for the Unbounded the Hunters aren’t all that bright. Still, they are dangerous adversaries.

In The Escape, Erin is learning more and more about her special ability, called sensing. In the previous episode she realized that she could sometimes borrow abilities from other unbounded and she also learned that sometimes she could penetrate the mental defense of others. Here she must use what she has learned about herself in combination with the abilities of others we met in the previous installments. The objective is facilitating the escape of Renegade prisoners from the Emporium strong hold in New York City. In the process of planning Erin discovers the nature of the Emporium’s evil plans to take control of the government through subterfuge and murder.

Although I’m not normally a huge fan of paranormal novels I have seemed o read a number of them in the past year. II enjoy the unleashed imagination that is possible when characters can defy the laws of physics – or rather utilize or explore other, undiscovered levels of the physical universe. It makes for good fantasy, especially if the story is told with enough realism that a reader can easily be drawn into the story.

Branton excels in character development giving us an array of people to care about throughout the telling. This volume has action, mystery, suspense and romance blended together with a healthy dose of political intrigue. I am looking forward to reading The Reckoning, Unbounded Book 4, already available at Amazon.

Another very good book in the "Unbounded" series by Teyal Branton (aka: Rachel Branton, aka Rachel Ann Nunes, a popular author and good writer in the LDS fiction market. In the Unbouded series of Adult (Urban Fantasy) Fiction with a scientific bend. Certain mortals "change" usually around the time they're in their late 20's to mid-30's. This is the 3rd of the series, the others being "Unbounded" and "The Cure". These 'Unbounded" can and usually do, live for several hundred years and are immortal, or nearly so. Turns out there are two groups of Unbounded, the Renegades (who are the good guys, wanting to save Humanity from slavery and mass slaughter by the other (evil) group, the Emporium. The latter are the ones who want to enslave Humans who will not serve them and treat them like Gods. They don't care if they kill anyone or not, nor are they above torture, etc. It turns out there is only one way to kill an Unbounded...and that is by severing all three Focal Points (described in the books).

Each Unbounded also has at least one other special gift or ability; one may be able to sense others' thoughts (and even invade them and manipulate them to some degree); others are gifted in Combat; and some have the ability to 'shift' from one place to another. Some have more than one gift, while others have just one. These powers (like any power) can be used for good or evil.
There are many escapades and near annihilation of the groups, and the Mortal enemies to both factions (enemy to ALL UNbounded) are the Hunters, who are often the 'discarded' off-spring of the Emporium who failed to "change" and so are useless to the Emporim as far as their power schemes go.

The books are strong in characters personalities, and strong plots-there is a lot of variety in the events that keep you guessing in most instances. VERY GOOD reading and HIGHLY recommended!

A good and interesting 3rd installment of The Unbounded series. There is alot that I liked with this book especially how the main heroine's power grows and evolves which was something I thought was lacking in the 2nd installment. However there was still very little progress plot wise and it is actually starting to irritate me a little bit, because even though I like the books, I actually want to be abel to see an end at some point. Especially since the author is only planing to write 5 books in all according to her blogg. The romance is the same as in every book alot of teasing about Ritter but nothin really happens. If I buy the next book and he and Erin don't get together I will not be reading book 5 cuse then it just wont be worth it. I feel that the author has been walking the edge on the romance in all of the books for far too long. Something must be done or I am putting this series behind me it is all fine and good to build up tension but when you only plan to write 5 books the tension between the main couple should have come to an actuall head in book 3.

I SOOOOOOOOOO LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!#!!

I chose this rating because once I started the very first one I couldn't put them down. I just HAD to get the next. And I already know I will be so disappointed when there are no more "next ones" to buy. =( I really love the characters and the very involved and well written and thought out plots etc. I wish I were more creative at descriptions because this cannot fully describe how much I absolutely adore these people and the fantasy that makes me feel envious of them! This author WILL be famous someday!!! Geeeeeeezzzzzz I just wish I could get my brain to think like this author. I'd be rich!!! Keep up the great work. PLUUEEESEEE!!!

She did it again

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

These books always keep me on the edge of my seat. I love how all the characters develop rather thanksgiving a side character to the story. The books all flow together great and the writing is still amazing. This book has on twist at the very end that you won't see coming but will be very happy about!
Lastly...

As much as I love Erin and Ritter together, I really wish she would choose Keene! She always mentions the connection tion she has with Ritter but once upon a time, she did have one with Keene too. I hope Teyla will bring them together in the last couple books or that Ritter and Erins relationship grows more. If that is the outcome, I hope Keene finds someone to love. He is one of my favorites!
