Iker the Unseen has eliminated Renault, one of the Triumvirate, and in the process has made his difficult life…nightmarish.
When the remaining members of the Triumvirate want Iker eliminated, they mobilize the DCE-Dark Council Enforcers to get their revenge. But not everything is as it seems.
Someone is controlling the remaining members of the Triumvirate, someone ancient and powerful. Someone who stands to gain by having Iker removed from the board. A Daystrider.
Now, Iker must uncover the identity of this Daystrider before the DCE eliminates him and those close to him. In order to uncover the influence in the shadows, Iker must walk in the light.
Orlando Sanchez has been writing ever since his teens when he was immersed in creating scenarios for playing Dungeon and Dragons with his friends every weekend. An avid reader, his influences are too numerous to list here. Some of the most prominent are: J.R.R. Tolkien, Jim Butcher, Kat Richardson, Terry Brooks, Piers Anthony, Lee Child, George Lucas, Andrew Vachss, and Barry Eisler to name a few in no particular order. The worlds of his books are urban settings with a twist of the paranormal lurking just behind the scenes and generous doses of magic, martial arts, and mayhem. Aside from writing, he holds a 2nd and 3rd Dan in two distinct styles of Karate. If not training, he is studying some aspect of the martial arts or martial arts philosophy. He currently resides in Queens, NY with his family and can often be found in the local Starbucks where most of his writing is done. Daystrider is the continuing story of Iker, the cleaner. His job is to 'fix' things in the magical world, to keep the normal humans from learning about the vampires, werewolves and other creatures. This novella is a satisfying glimpse into what he and his sidekick do during the night while the world is sleeping. The fight scenes are very well written, the author's background in martial arts, makes the fight understandable and realistic. A very enjoyable story set in the magical world of New York City.
While I find this character interesting the story do seem short & I feel like I'm missing out on events of the bigger world. Still I would recommend as a quick read & wish there was a bit more action.
This is a quick, action filled, short story with some of my favorite characters. It is great to see Iker back in action. And of course, Director Nakatomi is always welcome. I am looking forward to more.
So my accidental plunge into the world of Iker has landed me smack dab into the land of "I need to start Book 3". This side character's story is all I want. I may not read the rest of the books in this world because, I'm Team Iker/Sabine and you can't change my mind. I will say the setup to the boss battle (Solis) felt like it drug a little. Maybe it could have been a few pages shorter, but then again would that have diminished the amount of arrogance Solis is dripping with. Who's to say. I will say, I appreciate the bite sized stories that have me completely sucked in and wondering, if Iker gets a place on the Dark Council. On to book 3!!!
This is a short novella or a long short story that has an interesting protagonist—who is a vampire assassin and a “fixer,” which makes him sorta good/sorta bad. Iker the Cleaner is a great character, but I really like Byako who is Michiko Nakatomi’s personal assistant-assassin. There are politics involved, but what do you expect if Nakatomi is about. Expect action and snark from any story associated with the Montague & Strong world/universe. Happily no cliffhanger.
Iker the Unseen has eliminated one of the Triumvirate, and now the Triumvirate would like to reply in kind by eliminating Iker. But someone even more powerful than the Triumvirate is behind the kill order, someone too powerful for Iker to find and face alone. He needs help, but the help needs to come from a former enemy - one he tried, and failed, to kill.
This story starts at full speed, with Iker facing the Dark Council's lead enforcer, and only ramps up from there! I loved getting to read more about Director Nakatomi, we hadn't had enough of her lately, in my opinion; and it was fun to get back to Iker. Best of all, I have a new favorite character - Byako!
If you like in your face, fast-paced fantasy, with terrific characters, dialog, and story, you'll like this book! But start with the first book of the Cleaner series, Iker the Unseen, to get the backstory on the events and characters in this book. It's a terrific story also, and bonus: it's on KU.
It’s been two years since Iker got his own story. This one was worth the wait because we finally got Michiko back!! One of the ways I can tell how much I like an author is by looking something up in a book I have already finished. If I am pulled back into a story then the writer is one of my favorites. Just now I went to see something in the first “Blood Rule” book. It should have taken less than 30 seconds. I wound up reading it for 15 minutes. I know there were some who complained about how short the first Iker book was. Orlando TOLD! us it was short. I am glad we got some more. I am still hoping we learn more about Sabine. That is my only slight quibble-but if having less of her meant we got Chi then it was a worthy trade off.
Iker is a different character in Orlando Sanchez's line up. He is a Nightwalker, an assassin of special skill. He has dispatched one of the Triumvirate and does not like the position in which he's been placed and is determined to find out what the end game is. To the end, he goes to an enemy for answers and gets roped into a plan that is suicide at best, death for certain, no other way out for sure. Classic Sanchez!
Lately, Iker finds himself less than unseen thanks to Dark Council politics. And his last assignment has increased his profile enough that other Enforcers are tasked with taking him out. To uncork the conspiracies within, and hopefully achieve his wishful return to the shadows, he seeks help from a most unlikely source -- a former target, his only failure. Will this former mark just put him out of his misery, or can their combined efforts untangle the secretive webs within the Council?
Iker or Iker the semi-unseen as Byako the Director's second called him asks the Director of the Dark Council for help or information in his quest to find out who wants to end him. This second story in this amazing series is fast paced and a page tuner. I read it in a few hours. I just downloaded the last short story in this amazing series. I highly recommend anything written by Orlando Sanchez. If you read the M&S series, you find references to places, groups and characters in this series.
This second instalment of Iker not only didn't disappoint, but it exceeded the expectations, gifting us reader with a serious series of surprises. I already started the wait for the next book!
Having eliminated Renault, one of the Triumvirate, Iker finds himself running for his life. He must get help from an unlikely source or be hunted down. As the odds mount, Iker is in for the fight of his life.
What is not to love a great read set in the universe not M&S it is a must read and there is absolutely nothing negative to say about it. Please read it it truly worth the time.
