When the law fails, all that is left is vengeance.
This book is a fast, lean muscle machine......taking off in a screech of tires and a cloud of burning rubber like a vintage Mustang.....and Brian Pinkerton is Steve McQueen behind the wheel, taking his tale through it's paces, never letting up on the gas as he speeds through some unexpected twists and turns with the skills of a master, leaving the reader soaked in cold sweat.....and grinning like a maniac.
Vengeance hits the ground running in the first chapter! And the injustice of what happens to Beth (and Rob) is not too far from the truth, unfortunately. Think of how many times have people said, "there is no justice in the world!" I personally didn't agree with the principles of The Circle, even though I can empathize. I think Rob was just so weak and traumatized from what happened that he felt their group was a safe haven, and one of understanding. The concept of Vengeance isn't entirely original, which is why I only "liked " it, but there are a few twists that I didn't see coming. I was expecting a different outcome for Rob's sake. Poor guy!
Overall, it's a nice, quick read with a solid lead character. It doesn't go as deeply into the psyche as I'd assumed from the overview, but I did enjoy it. Although, the idea of vengeance is something you'll end of thinking about. Would I? Wouldn't I?
I have enjoyed all of the other books that I read by Pinkerton. Rough Cut and Time Warp: A Twisted Love Story were especially good and memorable because of the plot twist that I didnt see coming.
Vengeance....not so much. It was very predictable and the plot twist I was hoping for at the end never happened. So 2 stars for this book but highly recommend his other books!
Gee this book was a good read almost all the way through. There was a prescribed outcome, but I was super extra disappointed because it seemed like "I've reached this point, the ending so let's just do it and get it over and done with". Rating right up there with the worst endings ever because it was so blah! Still recommended but forget about a knock your socks off finale.
One of the worst books I've ever read. The plot was cheesy with a very predicable ending. The characters were barely sketches, and it was told in a totally banal, flat dull writing "style", much like reading Cat In The Hat, specially the dialogue. Very amateurish. It reminded me of cheesy TV show episodes from the 70s.
Well, ... your mind and the story switch between unison and opposition, and the resulting tension, at times, makes you apprehend reading the next page. This is rare gift this author possesses and makes for a very good book.
