Vampire Amaury LeSang is cursed to feel everybody's emotions like a permanent migraine. The only way to alleviate the pain is through sex. When he meets the feisty human woman Nina, a cure for his ailment seems within reach: in her presence all pain vanishes.
Unfortunately, Nina is out to kill him because she believes he's involved in her brother's death. And she would succeed if only Amaury's bad boy charm didn't play havoc with her hormones and catapulted her into his arms and his bed every time she was near him.
As every kiss brings them physically closer, danger is lurking and threatens to destroy the little trust they have in each other.

I had a feeling I'd like this one more than I did the first book - which I liked just fine - and I was right! There was something a little rougher, a little sexier, and a little more broken about Amaury, and that called to my need to fix his damaged soul, to bring him home and love him all better...or until neither of us would be walking for days! ;)
Next up.... Gabriel's story. I'm not sure how I feel about him, but I can't wait to find out!!
And guess what this gorgeous, big, bad vampire could do(I told he was a vampire, didn't I?). Yeap, you guessed right, he could read everyone's emotions and it was mighty painful for him, the only thing he could do to take the pain away was have sex(wish that took my migraines away too). Then one day he crossed paths with a little wannabe-vamp slayer, let's name her Nina... Oh you want another visual? Sure...
And of course he couldn't read her emotions, and there was a "prophecy" that when he fell in love his curse would break. And of course our little vamp hunter fell in his bed and heart in ten seconds flat, and obviously everyone lived HEA in the end(well ok...they had some adventures first but you get the point).
Now tell me...Sounds familiar?
Well of course it does because there was nothing original in the characters or the story! There is one book exactly like this in every Paranormal Series out there.
The heroine was for the better part of the book a complete disaster, obviously the author tried to give her a tough-chick persona but failed miserably, the only thing I saw from her was stupidity. The girl couldn't stop getting in trouble where the hero had to save her from. There at the end of the book she showed one or two good things but it was too late.
The hero was better, his character was much better developed and despite the fact that he had nothing new to offer to my "males" list he was intriguing enough to make you continue reading.
The story was better than the previous book, or at least it had a little more action that made it appear interesting enough.
In general the most obvious problem was that everything, from the plot, to the characters, to the romance was like I'd read them 1.000 times before with nothing new to at least add some mystery. It was a story to read, pass the time and forget the next day.
Is it just me, or is there a formula out there for these Tortured Vampire Series? It's likes somewhere out there, there's a checklist authors use.
Group must have a hardened, cynical leader, who deep down has a heart of gold. ***IMPORTANT*** Must have a womanizing, sex crazed member who deep down is a hopeless romantic, but has given up on love due to all the mindless sex he's forced to have thanks to a curse. Group must also have an insane, somewhat disfigured, but still ridiculously good looking member who faced horrors in his past too horrific to speak of which has hardened him to the point of insanity. Other members must fear him. Double bonus if his name somehow alludes to his mental state. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
That being said, I'm a sucker for this stuff. Hand me any vampire series with the above formula and I will read it. I will read it and even if it's God awful, a part of me will fangirl the hell out of it.
I liked Amaury and Nina together better than I liked the first couple of the series, Samson and Delilah. Sure, at times, the cheese factor was pretty high, but overall, they were a cute couple. And Nina? Her badass pseudo Buffy attitude excited me. Give me a gal who can hold her own over a simpering, fainting female any day.
Feb 2013 It has taken me a while to collect all the books in this series but I have now finally got them all!......I haven't got a great deal of time but think that it is only fair that I leave a review even if it is only a small one.
This series is a bit different that what I am used to in PNR, but then I think that I like that and it has kept my interest. The sex scenes are very steamy and extremely well written and is guaranteed to get your motor revving! For me this was better than the first ( Samson's Lovely Mortal ), but then I love a bit of angst and what made it even better was that a fair bit of the story was told from Amaury's point of view.....Now onto Gabriel's story.
2012 Yipee....I won this in a competition on Tina's website.....I really want to read it but this is second in the series and as most of my GR's friend know I am a bit anal in that I like to read books in order!
Amaury's Hellion was book#2 of the Scanguards series and I couldn't put it down. I love Folsom's style of writing. Amaury is a vampire cursed to never experience love and to also feel the pain of everyone's emeotions around him. He finds that sexual release is his only relief from the pain, but only a brief relief. When Amaury falls for vampire slayer, Nina, he finds total peace from the pain while in her presence. Nina is a fiesty heroine that is determined to kill Amaury in order to avenge her dead brother. The attraction between these two is undeniable, and smokin hot!
There was a sound plot with murder, mystery, lust and love. I highly recommend this series.
This book made me super ranty. In fact, I got so ranty, I made a ton of status updates while reading / listening because I could not keep the rant inside to myself. Here, I'll prove it: 18.0% "Good grief. Idiot heroine with a boatload of misconceptions and a chip on her shoulder. That's going to make her endearing. Not." 21.0% "Oh great. A heroine with men issues." 26.0% "Kinda need this to hurry up with the pacing. A lot of blah blah, I hate vampires, blah blah, revenge right now." 31.0% "Blah blah, slow, blah blah boring. Plot is dragging. Lots of nothing being said and nothing happening." 31.0% "I'm also not liking Nina at all. She rubs me the wrong way." 32.0% "Oh hell no! Even when I could tell that was what she was planning, still no. That's just wrong." 33.0% "Good thing I stopped listening to the audiobook and reading it instead. The pace of the audiobook along with what was happening would have been intolerable. At least with reading I can skim or read fast." 35.0% "Ugh. I still hate her no matter her reasons." 37.0% "I love the vampires and all the Scanguards crew but man, I hate the heroine." 41.0% "I'm all for suspending disbelief but I'm not sure how believable this is. My apologies for the ranting too. This book makes me ranty. I should probably stop reading it but I'm not sure I hate it enough yet." 45.0% "Well, this might soften me up to Nina a bit, but the whole "woe is me" act comes off as a bid to get sympathy from the reader considering how unpleasant she has been so far."
Let's start with Nina. I HATED her. She's out for revenge. She thinks her brother was killed by vampires so she's out to kill them to avenge him. It's stupid. She doesn't even investigate to see if her suspicions are right or wrong. She just starts tracking the vampires and killing them. Then she meets Amaury and he's not what she expects from a vampire and oh no, she needs to stay strong, she can't believe him, he's a vampire, all vampires are bad, blah, blah, blah. She also does something early on in the story which I think is pretty despicable. She tortures Amaury in order to get information out of him. While he's not badly hurt and it's only a small, short scene, I can see it coming and even when I did and it happened, it did not sit right with me. Let me say that kind of behavior, no matter her justification against the hero is unacceptable. It is never okay in my book for the heroine to do something like that to the hero. NEVER.
As for Amaury, for someone who claims to be a tough, scary, bad boy vampire, he's a pushover and totally ruled by a certain part of his anatomy that is not his brain. Even when he says he's using sex to keep from going mad because of his gift / curse, and he doesn't really want it all the time, he's totally led around by his little head where Nina is concerned. He can't control himself around her and he doesn't understand why, even when she's trying to kill him, he's protecting her and making excuses for her. No, he is not a strong, alpha male, vampire at all. The best I can think to describe him is he is a limp d***. Pathetic. Still, I do not dislike him nearly as much as I do Nina, though this is one of the rare times when I also can't stand the hero.
I was listening to this as an audiobook and it got so intolerable, I stopped listening and decided to read instead since I wanted to know if Amaury does find a way to cure his problem and get rid of his curse, but even the reading got unbearable and I became impatient. I didn't even skip to the end to find out what happens. I might still do that, but I can't bring myself to read more of the book because Nina is so annoying.
I'm making my way through this series because I want to get to the point where I pick up the books where my favorite narrator is narrating the books. I do not know if I can make it that far. I'm not sure if I will pick up the next book in the series to give it a shot.
Ooooohh another hot and sexy book from Tina Folsom!! Loved it!! This is the second book in Tina Folsom's Scanguard series and its a whopper!! ;)
In book one, we meet a whole assortment of characters. Amaury LeSang was one of them and he has garnered his own book here in book 2. He is one sexy beast!!!! He's a vampire and in this world, some vampires have special gifts. Amaury is one of those vampires. His gift is that he can sense the emotions of others. Its sounds like a pretty cool gift; pretty harmless too. But not so much. When he's around anyone, human or vampire, their emotions bombard him and he can't turn his gift off and he can't block out the emotions. So they fill his head and it feels like his head is going to burst. Sort of like a migraine on steroids!
He has to use his gift to aid Samson's company, Scanguard Security. Two of the security guards under Scanguard's employ have killed their clients and then killed themselves. As you can imagine, this is AWFUL for business. An internal investigation must be done and Amaury is the perfect one to "sniff" out anyone in the company who may have had a hand in these killings. As he's walking home from one of these investigational meetings, he smells something.... something wonderful, and he goes to check it out.
Nina is a tough chick. She grew up with her brother in foster homes. And it was a bad, bad experience for her. But things are getting better until her brother, Edmund, ends up dead. She blames his employer, Scanguard Security. She does her own investigation and finds out that some of Scanguard's employees are vampires!!!! But she has an informant and she's out checking some of the information he's given her. But he's double crossed her!! Two vampires attack her and she's ready to give it her all, defending her life. And then suddenly, this hulking person is in front of her, helping her fight these vampires off. He's huge, he's handsome and he's a handful!!
This is how Amaury and Nina meet. To say they have a rocky relationship throughout the book is an understatement!! She doesn't know if she can trust him: Did he have a hand in her brother's death? Will Amaury try to bite her? He IS a vampire. A scum sucking vampire!!!! Amaury is instantly attracted to Nina, though. When he's with her, his gift is tempered. Feelings and emotions aren't bombarding him, not even hers. He's intrigued....obsessed even. But can HE trust HER?? Is she working for the person trying to mess with Scanguard? She already knows about vampires...what else does she know? What will she tell? Should he wipe her memory as he was instructed? Can he?
Yeah, this is a great book. It has lots of laughs, a little hint of tragedy/sadness and a whole lotta sexy sex!! I only gave it 4 stars because I thought Book 1 was a teensy bit better. But I still loved it. I laughed out loud several times...especially when Nina leaves Amaury naked, in bed, tied up with silver chains and Amaury has to call one of his friends to come rescue him. Nina is exactly what I like in my heroines. She's got brass balls and can take care of herself. Her distrust got a little bit tiring right before she gave in to her urges with Amaury but only a little bit. She is, after all, trying to solve her brother's murder and get revenge so I get that sex and relationships may not be first thing on her mind!! Overall, this was an awesome book. I will certainly keep reading the series. You won't regret it if you give this series a try! I promise!!!
Amaury LeSang works at Scanguards (a successful security and body guard company owned by Samson Woodford) taking care of the real estate side of the business and is Samson’s best friend. He also lives with the painful curse of sensing other’s emotions but never being able to feel love himself. The only cure for the constant onslaught is sex, daily, and it is only a temporary reprieve. So Amaury has become quiet known in the vampire world for his sexual exploits. And he’s only a little bit arrogant about his expertise. Well, maybe a lot, but it’s well deserved! Nina is set on revenge for her brother’s death and the vampires at Scanguards will meet the pointy end of her stake for it. That is until she stalks one of them to an alley and ends up passionately kissing the blue-eyed devil! But Nina is one determined little cookie and the scorching attraction she feels for this vampire will not distract her from her goal. Amuary discovers that when with Nina he is no longer bombarded by other’s emotions, but not only that, she is slowly starting to melt the ice he has around his heart and he is determined to keep her by his side. Unfortunately though Nina has been used too many times by the opposite sex and has little faith in them. But when a vampire from the past shows up and threatens all Amuary holds dear they must trust in each other to overcome the deadly plans he has for them all.
I had planned on waiting to read this book until the New Year so that I could add it to one of my challenges but after reading Sampson’s Lovely Mortal I had to jump right into this one and now I am devouring Gabriel's Mate!
I was intrigued with Amaury from the first book of the series and let me just say that Amaury’s Hellion did not disappoint. Now this is a romance! Tina really found her grove for the series here. The plot is complex & involved and jammed packed with suspense, action & mystery. Amuary & Nina have perfect chemistry but the relationship doesn’t come easy for them. He has a tragic past and a painful curse to deal with while she has some well-founded trust issues and a very tough exterior. They both have to learn to let go and trust each other if they are to survive what this villain has planned for them. But Nina is the perfect feisty heroine for the arrogant Amaury and their sparring back and forth was entertaining, the sex scenes mouth watering. The Scanguards Vampires series is filled with dynamic characters and even the villains are well-developed characters that you feel for. Amaury’s Hellion was quick paced, had surprise twists, humorous, sexy as hell and thoroughly engaging with such deep emotion that really impacts the reader. Another fabulous read from author Tina Folsom!
The premise was great—a vampire that can feel emotions of those around him, a constant onslaught that brings him pain (one emotion is particularly painful—love, since he's been cursed never to feel love himself), when he meets the only woman whose emotions he cannot read. I know, right.
Unfortunately that only woman whose emotions poor Amaury could not read turned out to be a hot-and-cold-running, vampire-slayer-wannabe, caustic little bitch. I hated her with a passion, which resulted in me not particularly liking the entire story. Which is a huge surprise give the fact I absolutely loved its predecessor, Samson's Lovely Mortal. The fact I hated the heroine just ruined everything for me. And Amaury, the vamp whose story I actually looked forward to reading, lost his shine with a "mate" like that.
I don't know what it was. Maybe the fact I read this one right after the first in the series might've "colored my perception", but I guess it was just the bitch-slappable heroine. She acted like an idiot most of the time, jumping from one TSTL situation to the next, running hot and cold, until both Amaury and the reader got whiplash...Sheesh, I couldn't stand the woman and I actually pity the fictitious vampire Amaury for having ended up with this particular ball and chain.
The saving grace of this story was the suspense, which was pretty good and nicely done, but unfortunately couldn't shake the heroine-curse long enough to really make it work for this story.
3.5 stars. Amaury LeSang has been a vampire since the 17th Century when he was cursed to feel the emotions of everyone around him. Sex is the only way to get momentary respite, so of course Amaury has sex and lot of it.
One day Amaury was tracked by a woman, Nina the wannabe slayer, and Amaury realizes he can't feel her emotions. How nice to be around someone and not be assaulted by their inner turmoil. Nina is determined to kill all vampires as she blames them for the murder of her brother. Amaury is determined to break his curse, the only problem is that they can't keep their hands off each other.
*Sighing* I kept waiting for the revelation that Nina was a fairy or vampire descendant. I don't see how a mere human could get the drop on century old vampires with no drop of supernatural blood. Why, she tailed Amaury. Someone with heightened powers. I just find the Scanguard vampires weak as predators, so much so that I am tempted to skip to Zane's book. He seems to know he is at the top of the food chain.
This one was a bit slow, a little boring and not that exciting for me. The writing is a bit....flat. I got distracted often and couldn't focus, the writing wasn't catching me. The couple was ok, but unrealistic for the most part, which can be ok but for this story needed to be a bit more believable. I found myself skimming through the sex scenes because it wasn't anything new to the story, no passion was really built up. I didn't feel their feelings either. I like the concept, but this one wasn't that great for me. I'll try the 3rd book since right now I have checked out from the library a big compilation of books 1-9 so we shall see. Don't know if I'm going to go on right away or, wait and put a book between.
Forgot how sweet these books were!! Loved it and can't wait to read more! ================ 5 of the steamiest stars!! (Originally read in July 2015) My God!!
Sizzling! that's what this one was. Absolutely delicious!
This should have come with a warning about how hot it would be ;)
Amaury's Hellion is the second book in Tina Folsom's fantastic Scanguards Vampires series. This paranormal Erotic Romance is SMOKIN' HOT! Or is that just Amaury? 'Cause that man is so hot that he's on fire! But I'll get back to him in a minute...
This book is another awesome piece of work by Tina Folsom. I love all the characters in the world of the Scanguards Vampires. We first met the gang in Samson's Lovely Mortal.
Here's the situation...
Samson owns a bodyguard agency called Scanguards. He runs it in San Francisco with his friends and fellow vampires, Amaury, Ricky and Thomas. There is also the fabulous character of Dr. Drake, the vampire shrink. In this book, not only do we have the original crew, but we also get to meet the vampires from the New York office. They were called in to help with a problem that the agency was experiencing. For some reason two of their bodyguards killed their clients and then themselves.
This is Amaury's story. In it we get to learn more about him. We get to see more of Amaury the man, not just Amaury the ladies man. Amaury can sense others emotions and if he doesn't have sex, those emotions crash down on him like a massive migraine. Amaury's Hellion takes place three months after Samson's Lovely Mortal.
Amaury definitely caught my attention in the first book of this series and I couldn't wait to get to his story. He seemed kinda mysterious to me and I needed to learn more about him. However, some small part of me yearned for his book to come further down the road so the build up to his book to be... more. Anywho, no matter what it's place in the series, Amaury's story was wonderful. It was full of twists and turns, a veritable roller coaster with it's surprises. I was never sure what was going to happen next!
Nina really was a hellion. She was out to cause trouble for Scanguards and that she did. Her devotion to her brother was extraordinary. The fact that she was stalking -and intending to kill- a bunch of people she suspected to be vampires to avenge his death was unbelievable. I'm not sure if I would have had the courage to do it if I was in the situation. I can say one thing though. I wouldn't be all freaked out like her because I kissed a vampire, and I liked it.Of course, her disgust just ramped up the heat of this book even more. I LOVED the sexual tension in it. It was sextacular! I couldn't get enough of it!
I also loved the humor in this book. Here's one of my favorite quotes:
"You mean I'm not the only one you stalk? Well, now I'm hurt. And hear I thought you were interested in me."
There was only one thing that disappointed me in this book and I'll try to explain it without spoilers. After the showdown with the Big Bad, we heard nothing more about our surprise character. I would like to have known more about what was to become of him. Perhaps we will in future books.
Now lets get back to Amaury, the new love of my life. He is the newest recipient of my Hunky Hotness Award!
Listen to the descriptions of of this 6'5" hottie! He was "ruggedly handsome and sensual at the same time". He had eyes that were "as blue and as deep as an ocean" and "smelled of earth and leather, purely male"
"He was tall and muscled, big-boned , and broad shouldered. But there wasn't an ounce of fat on him. His hair was as black as a raven, not quite shoulder length and curling slightly at it's end."
But the best description was...
"He was perfectly proportioned, but being the size of a linebacker also meant his dick was supersized."
Amaury's Hellion is the 2nd book in the Scanguards series. The story was well conceived, the characters are interesting, and vamp rules are pretty straight forward.
I loved Amaury's character and I even enjoyed Nina more than I expected. Amaury has been cursed to never love and to be tormented by the emotions of others. He has existed this way for 400 years. He is a partner in Scanguards, a vampire owned security firm that is now under investigation because 2 human guards killed their clients and committed suicide. This is where Nina comes in. Her brother is one of the guards. She does not believe he killed himself and sets out to find the truth. She learns that Scanguards is operated by vampires and decides to start killing them, beginning with Amaury. That did not turn out as she planned, instead they began a hot and heavy affair. I will tell you straight up, Ms. Folsom writes some of the best erotica out there. I have no faults with her writing in this area.
The problem for me is the lackluster writing of everything else. Ms. Folsom does a superb job of building a scene then loses the edge through boring prose. For example, Nina decides to let Amaury drink from her in the heat of passion. Amaury is overwhelmed by her willingness as described by the words -- 'Her words were like a symphony in his ears, like angels singing'. The description of his emotions was uninspiring, ordinary, and over-used. This unimaginative analogy killed the power of this and many other important scenes. I found it particularly annoying when it happened during conversational banter. These characters are young and urban but they tend to use dated terminology. I feel like I am kicked out of the story to scratch my head…what????
Other than the weakness of the dialog and analogies, I loved this story. I found that Nina , although not the most lovable character, did something most heroines don’t do – she asked her questions right on the spot and got answers. When she was upset about something and pulled away, she would spill it all when Amaury called her on it. She did not make a habit of hiding from what she could confront.
I will continue with the series because the characters are so interesting. If Ms. Folsom could develop the edginess we see in JR Ward and Jeaniene Frost’s writing, this series would go to a whole new level. As well, it would not hurt to make readers work to figure out the villian. But to be fair, that does not bother me as much in this series as it would in some of the others I read. I like spending time getting to know the Scanguard vamps, so the lack of a cloak-and-dagger mystery is not that serious.
"You know what happens to naughty girls?".......... "They end up with real bad boys."
I'm so loving this series of books !! They have the right combination of action, drama, adventure and heat. And my the heat is hot hot hot !!
We were first introduced to Amaury in Samson's Lovely Mortal, he is Samson's best friend and business partner and also a centuries old vampire. Amaury has a curse which is that he can feel the emotions of others this leaves him in permanent migraine like pain. The only way he can subside the pain is through sex !! When Amaury meets the very feisty and human Nina all this changes as just being around her stops his pain, has Amaury at last found a cure to his curse?? Not all is as it seems with Nina and while Amaury is trying to learn more about her, she is looking for the vampires she believes are responsible for her brothers death. Lots of passion and twists included and lots of new vampires for future books !!! I loved the two lead characters in this book they were both feisty and no nonsense !! Nina was a great match for Amaury, and they sizzled on the pages !! I have started highlighting my favorite lines as I read and with these books there's a couple in every chapter.
"Soon, his fangs would dig into her vain and he would drink from her, while he impaled her on his shaft"
"She wasn't particularly pretty, except for her generous dick-sucking lips, but she was willing"
"She kicked more ass than Jean-Claude Van Damme"
I could go on but I would be here all night, I love the way Tina writes and each book is a pleasure to read !!
The story of Amaury and his curse is very intrigueing and through the beginning I felt so sad for him. Amaury is cursed to feel the emotion of those around him, feelings that pound through his head and cause him pain. I enjoyed learning about his past and experiencing his interactions through this "emotional translation". Nina is our angry herroine, she's on a mission to destroy vampires because she believes them to be behind her brothers death. Through her investigations, and much stalking, she comes face to face with Amaury. This is when he realizes she relieves his pain, and she starts to question her vengeance mission and hate for all things vampire. I enjoyed this book in a basic way, the characters were developed enough and the plot was interesting enough to keep my attention through to the end. BUT, I did have some issues: Folsoms vampires don't come across very bad-ass, the ones in this story were so wishy-washy, and there was one part where a group of them flat out panicked and ran screaming like little girls :O Also, although I did like Amaury and want him to have his HEA I wouldn't have liked him at all if I didn't read Samson's ' Mortal first, and I felt it very hard to feel empathy for Nina - her bitterness was sometimes too much to take.
I will probably continue with the series, lets see what happens in Gideons story.
My opinion of an excellent book is when you read the story and it plays out in your head. You can see the characters in your head, you have a picture of what their surroundings look like, you feel what they feel, and most importantly when you are done you are left with an empty feeling like "Now what?!?". If you are like me you might even obsess over it for several days, weeks, months...do not judge me lol.
Ok - the book was HOT HOT HOT! There were sections I felt like I needed to cover my eyes, but being as weak as I am, I peeked and THANK GOD I did! Personally I think that the first book in the series with Samson and Delilah had a better storyline, but the book was a great read none the less. Nina's do I, don't conflict was getting on my nerves towards the end of the book. I was like JUMP THE MAN ALREADY lol. The ending was ok...but I would have liked for things to have explained a little better. Can't say more than that because I don't want to give too much away.
This series has been really great so far. It's been keeping me up all hours of the night/early morning. I can't seem to put it down and read until my eyes begin to cross, or my husband comes in and tells me that I need to pay more attention to him lol. I would strongly suggest it to anyone - but keep in mind that you may be unable to put it down!
I've read some really good books lately, and this one was only okay. I liked it enough, and I will continue the series, but I don't feel like it's anything to write home about.
The plot: Continuing where we left off, Amaury, one of the Scanguard Vampire crew has always been plagued by being able to sense everyone's emotions. It also causes him huge migraines. The only way he can find relief (in more ways that one... heh heh heh) is by having sex with anyone with boobs and lady bits.
Enter the heroine, Nina. She's supposed to be strong and fearless. I don't really get it. She thinks that the Scanguards are responsible for her brother's death. There's a mutual attraction and Amaury finds some relief in her presence (in more ways than one... heh heh heh).

The pacing and characters were better than the first novel, but I just didn't like Nina enough. She was kind of a cookie cutter version of a typical heroine. Amaury was interesting, yet everything was fairly predictable in the end. There was more action than the first book, so that's a plus.
Although the premise was better than the first it ended up being on the low side of 3 stars in the end. There was just too much assumption, miscommunication, and keeping the truth to oneself. The first ones I could accept because the couple didn't know one another but then even in the middle and the end it was just more and more of the same. It just gets tiring especially since you see each scene coming and pretty much know what is going to happen. The end was obvious, too obvious, so really OK to good. The chemistry was good but the story just got tiring by the end. Still like some of the characters and would like to know more but the misunderstanding of this one made less sense than the first book. I'll have to think whether I'll read on. Really wanted to after the 1st, not so much after the 2nd.
Amaury has a 'gift' where he can sense emotions of the people around him both human and vampire, but after a few hundred years the gift has become his curse as he battles with the pressure in his mind. To relieve the pressure the only way he has found he can is through the relief of sex! And lots of it with any female willing partner...
Nina a feisty woman is looking for revenge on the vampire that killed her brother Eddie and she believes Amaury is responsible. She goes looking for to take him out only to find they have the hottest sexual connection she has ever encountered. The same goes for Amaury. Can he convince her of his innocence and aid her plight for revenge before she takes him out??
Absolutely fab book, this is my fave one of the series so far! It's got drama, sex, love - all you need for a good read! The interaction between Nina & Amaury is great as she gives as good as he does...Can't wait to read the 3rd installment.
I'm really liking this series. The characters, focal and secondary, are what make these books so delightful. It's impossible not to love each one of them.
I enjoyed this book quite a lot. Not as much as the first book Samson's Lovely Mortal, but I was still laughing and fanning myself during most of this story. And Amaury... he's one sexy vampire, for sure.
I'm very much looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Started off good. Then it became repetitive and lost its edge. The characters never really became dynamic nor compelling. The plot seemed a bit chaotic. Even the erotic parts were repetitive and a bit boring. The potential was there, but it never really developed into anything. I am still undecided about the series. I remember liking 'Samson's Lovely Mortal' & when I ran into this book I was excited to read it. Now I am even more unsure about it.
What I enjoy most is the quirkiness you'll find in the Scanguard books. There are little odds and ends quips that make me laugh when reading these. I'm a sucker for an arrogant man and Amaury definitely fit the bill. While there's not a lot of new material you can do with PNR, these are still entertaining reads. I recommend these for anyone who likes PNR.
This one was filled with action, snark, and soo much steam and tension. It was very well written and the characters were believable. It was very easy to put myself in their places.
I really enjoyed reading Amaury and Nina’s story and will continue making my way through the rest of the series.
