Malcolm X

Rate this book
Malcolm X lived in difficult times - when some thought that black people were inferior to white people. But Malcolm believed that black people should stand up for their rights and he preached this belief everywhere he went. His message became popular because it was one of hope and pride. But it also became dangerous, because some people didn't agree with him. In 1965, one of these people shot and killed him. Even though his life was cut short by hatred, Malcolm X's ideas still affect people of all races. Here is his amazing story. An ALA Notable Children's Book

Malcom X by: Arnold Adoff This is a biography about El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, or Malcom X. Malcom X was a religious leader and civil rights, activist. He and many others lived in America that left them feeling powerless, targeted, and scared. He wanted that to change, and he believed that through Islam he could help people out of this. The biography follows how his arrest led to his love of reading, to his religious conversion. This book captures all of the components of a biography. Unlike some other biographies, this one highlights the importance of Malcolm's early life. This includes his upbringing, his familiar influence, his time in prison, his time out of it, his death, and this impact after his death. This name should be a familiar one, but even I found out more about them then I did before. He represents two communities that are still to this day highly suppressed in societies. Biographies like this teach and inform people of the failures, accomplishments and impact of others. This is a book that provides an acceptable overview of the like of Malcom X and would be an appropriate reference for students to use. This could be used as a base book and then other can use the resources within the back matter of this text.

I think this book is great because of how much information and detail it had in it. I really liked how the book actually described how he took care of racism, however, one thing I did not like about it is the book kind of got boring at the end. when I was reading this book actually gives so much detail that you can imagine exactly what happened

My friend Adelle, a college professor who teaches adults with very low reading levels, asked if there were any interesting biographies out there written at a low reading level that aren't obviously for children so that it's not humiliating to carry around if you're an adult. This was one of them. Very simplistic biography of X that explained enough for someone to know what he was about, where he came from, and how he died. I never knew what the X stood for, so I got something out of it, too!

i really liked this book because malcolm x put his put accross in a very affective manner. after reading this book i understand a lot more about this book and im glad i read it. he strongly state and protest against rasicm and proved it was just wrong by protesting and trying to make a better life for his race. malcolm x had a wife and three children that he cared a lot about and protected them from the bad people. unfortaunuly he was shot becaseu the people started to think that he was more knowledgable then them and they were jealous so they killed him.

This book is truly inspiring,

Malcolm X is truly my hero. He was a black muslim and went to mecca " the holy land", that is when he saw that other races got together, sadly he was later assasinated, due to changes o0f ideaology. At first he wanted blacks and whites to be seperate, until he went to the holy land (mecca) and saw that white and blacks got together

This was a story about the life of Malcolm X. This book was a little long but it really explained the life of Malcolm X very well. This could be used in an upper elementary history class to learn about the life of Malcolm X and the history of the African American movement.
