What a touching romance Lane McFarland has woven in Cameron. This is my first exposure to Lane as an author and it won't be my last. I was lucky to win this ebook as a gift from Ms. McFarland and I offer this voluntary and unsolicited review.
The families of the two main characters, Cameron and Robert, are from neighboring clans that are feuding with one another. Robert reaches an agreement with his neighbor to call a truce. Shortly thereafter, his brother and another clan member are left for almost dead with evidence pointing to Clan MacDougall. Robert vows to wreak vengeance and abducts Cameron, daughter of Laird MacDougall and noted healer for her clan, when she is out gathering herbs, flowers and other plants she uses for remedies. Robert orders Cameron to use her healing capabilities to assure the recovery of his brother and clan member and continues to keep her prisoner. There was a strong attraction between them, but rife with mistrust and misunderstanding. Eventually, Cameron comes to realize how honorable Robert is and he comes to see how caring she is. A really sweet romance develops with some steam but nothing overly done.
The author used some good historical facts about the feuds going on between clans, who at the same time warred with King Edward of England and his troops. She managed to blend this throughout the book, kept the dialogue and action engaging, and kept my interest throughout the whole.
Cameron is book 1 in The Daughters of Alastair MacDougall series. It is standalone and can be read without the others, though I plan to read next in the series to find out what happens to Cameron's sisters who are introduced in this work.
Reasons I enjoyed this book: it had wonderful characters, was action-packed, steamy, a page-turner, entertaining, and had a happily ever after.
