Cameron MacDougall has devoted her life to the healing arts. She’s long rebelled against her father’s feuding ways, but when Robert Graham abducts her, she’s finds herself at the center of the dispute between their families. Starting out as an accountant in line with the rest of the corporate echelons struggling up the proverbial ladder, I soon realized the long nights and numerous weekends of closing books and reporting financial results no longer appealed. So, I decided to hit the road selling financial software. Jumping from one high-pressured frying pan into the other, the stress of the road-warrior life and constant deadlines took its toll. I needed a release and found that with my face buried in historical romance books, I could escape to worlds of intrigue with timeless love and happily-ever-after-endings. Today, I am fortunate to have found my true passion in writing of spirited heroines and to-die-for-heros and the romantic love stories between them.

I am a southern girl living on top of a mountain in North Georgia, and I’m most happy when surrounded by family and friends. If I am not writing, you can find me hiking with my husband, or fiddling around in my flower and vegetable gardens, feeding the birds and watching black bears and deer. I am blessed to have a wonderful son—my pride and joy, my buddy who, along with my husband, have made my life complete.

Warring Clans in 13th century Scotland and a Healer Heroine

The story begins in 1297 in Scotland at a time of warring clans. After years of the MacDougalls and Grahams fighting, Laird Robert Graham agrees to a truce with his feuding neighbor. But then his brother is attacked and nearly killed by the MacDougalls, who left their signature arrows behind. Robert decides to get even… and he needs a healer for his brother. How convenient that Cameron MacDougall is a healer from the enemy clan.

Cameron has devoted her life to learning about healing, so when Robert kidnaps her for revenge and her skills, she helps heal his brother no matter she is a prisoner. Robert clearly lusts after his prisoner and Cameron is attracted to him as well and soon a romance develops between them.

McFarland has done much research into the healing arts of the time and is careful to show us the remedies Cameron used. It is not hard to see why Robert’s clan came to love and respect her. She is thoughtful and caring. She keeps telling Robert her father is not the one behind the attack, but it’s his nephew. Robert doesn’t seem to listen. When his lust leads to a physical relationship with Cameron, he decides not to let her go.

What a touching romance Lane McFarland has woven in Cameron. This is my first exposure to Lane as an author and it won't be my last. I was lucky to win this ebook as a gift from Ms. McFarland and I offer this voluntary and unsolicited review.

The families of the two main characters, Cameron and Robert, are from neighboring clans that are feuding with one another. Robert reaches an agreement with his neighbor to call a truce. Shortly thereafter, his brother and another clan member are left for almost dead with evidence pointing to Clan MacDougall. Robert vows to wreak vengeance and abducts Cameron, daughter of Laird MacDougall and noted healer for her clan, when she is out gathering herbs, flowers and other plants she uses for remedies. Robert orders Cameron to use her healing capabilities to assure the recovery of his brother and clan member and continues to keep her prisoner. There was a strong attraction between them, but rife with mistrust and misunderstanding. Eventually, Cameron comes to realize how honorable Robert is and he comes to see how caring she is. A really sweet romance develops with some steam but nothing overly done.

The author used some good historical facts about the feuds going on between clans, who at the same time warred with King Edward of England and his troops. She managed to blend this throughout the book, kept the dialogue and action engaging, and kept my interest throughout the whole.

Cameron is book 1 in The Daughters of Alastair MacDougall series. It is standalone and can be read without the others, though I plan to read next in the series to find out what happens to Cameron's sisters who are introduced in this work.

Reasons I enjoyed this book: it had wonderful characters, was action-packed, steamy, a page-turner, entertaining, and had a happily ever after.

Much better than I expected!! The whole enemy clans, healer protagonist, kidnapping thing is very very common with these highland romances. But this one was better done than all of them.

Mainly because the heroine was amazing. She's smart and even when she's falling in love with the enemy she keeps her wits. She's not reckless with her escape plans, she's kind and compassionate without being Mary Sue, and she spends her days in captivity working instead of trying to make friends like other kidnapped heroines do. She was very refreshing.

The hero was a bit of a cutout type of guy though. I didn't get a good sense of who he really was. I really appreciated that he shuts down all OW drama without making it a big deal.

I didn't give it 4 stars because it was a little too fluffy and light for me. It took away from the feeling of that era.

Cameron is the first book I've read by Lane McFarland, but won't be my last. Ms. McFarland has delivered a well-written book. The characters are amazing. I love them. Cameron is a healer and is abducted by the neighboring clan as revenge. Robert's clan was attacked after Cameron's father sealed a truce. Robert and Cameron's story is full of drama, humor, action, suspense and sexy bits. Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed reading Cameron and look forward to reading more from Lane McFarland in the future. Cameron is book 1 of The Daughters of Alastair MacDougall Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

Overall I did enjoy Cameron's story - even if the sex scenes were a little too much for my tastes. Although the story was a little predictable and a familiar trope, Lane McFarland's writing was wonderfully descriptive and immersive. A couple of times I found it a bit repetitive, but on the whole it was an enjoyable read.
Please note I am not a huge romance reader and prefer more mystery and auto-biographical type reads. This has influenced my enjoyment of this book.
If you're a big Outlander fan you will no doubt enjoy The Daughter's Of Alistair MacDougall series.

Great

Cameron is the healer out of her four sisters. After looking her mom , her father let her cousin help with care of clan matters but it seems to backfire. After making a truce with clan Graham Robert the laird little brother is attack while hunting and has Cameron clan feather on arrow so he steals Cameron funeral his brother and friend. Cameron falls in love with Robert but if she could only have him see her father isn't behind the attacks on his clan they could be happy . I enjoy boo great characters and storylines

Cameron is an amazing heroine. I truly liked her and connected with her. She's a healer and I love reading about them, because I find it all fascinating. I liked Robert too, though I wasn't 100% sold on him. It's hard to describe. The book was really well written and was a nice pace. I couldn't put the book down. Lane McFarland is a new author to me. I really enjoyed her writing style and will be moving on to book #2 Heather.

Good read. Ms. McFarland still managed to make a tried~and~true Historical Romance formula into an interesting and enjoyable read (avoiding the label of boring and generic).

Cameron was a bit of a wild thing. She found her strength in nature and vowed to learn all she could about the art of healing. If she had known enough earlier, she may have prevented her mother’s death. She failed her mum, but she wouldn’t fail her clan nor her sisters and in this story her talents extend to Laird Graham and his clan.

Cameron’s mother taught all her daughters to pursue what they each enjoyed. All three sisters were very different in temperament; they were well bonded with their father and each other so it was a disaster to all when Cameron is missing.

Laird Graham simply kidnapped Cameron while she was out looking for healing herbs. Did the MacDougalls play Graham for a fool? He was provoked into this action when Laird Graham’s brother, Androu, and elder servant, Duncan, are attacked and seriously injured, apparently attacked by the clan MacDougall he struck back with the same medicine; he would have the old laird pay. It is so easy to assume the worst when dealing with an old enemy.

The writer takes us into the turmoil of Cameron’s mind and heart as she struggles with her capture. She needs to get word back to her family she is well, possibly escape if she can, yet feeling the need of the Graham clan for her skill in healing. Her healing arts and her kind demeanor did more to ease the tension between clans than any truce could.

Laird Graham also struggles with his attraction to the woman he captured and his enemy. He finds she is no different from him and full of goodness.

Cameron found her calling, her worth, and her love while working her magic with her healing herbs, saving lives and making friends. Love conquers all in this heart-warming romantic read from Lane Mcfarland. Her story showcases the difficulty of warring clans during that period of history, how they needed to forget their differences to protect each other against the bigger enemy, England.

This first book sets the reader to anticipate the remainder of the series. I'm a little late in starting the series, just finding this author. I'll enjoy seeing what happens to Cameron's three siblings in books 2, 3 and 4. Fun reading!

I wasn’t going to review this book but I really feel the need to since the words are coming to me so well.

There is a 2 star review on Amazon on this book that plainly tells what is all wrong with this book and yes, it’s all true and then some. Spite the fact this book has its flaws, I was compelled to keep reading it, so much so I read it all in one setting and I did enjoy a lot of the story.

My biggest issues weren’t so much of what the other reviewer mentioned on Amazon because I read a lot of that stuff in other books. I wished the author would have wrote more about the history of the clans or background information about the heroine or hero vs Cameron having to heal so many people. Plus, I would have rather the hero and heroine done more stuff together instead of them being apart during most of the book. I just get a better feel if both hero and heroine works together, it just builds up more chemistry between each other and give the story a better romance feel, but that is just me.

I myself do not mind a heroine held captive by a hero and them having sex together etc., but I know quite a few readers that are put off by that stuff, so if you are then please find another book and skip this one.

I would recommend this to readers that enjoys lighter bodice ripper style stories.

STRONG heroine who rises above all! Gifted healer, loyal companion, fearless when it came to protecting those she loved.

This book begins with two clans making an agreement for peace. The young Laird of the clan abducts the daughter of his neighboring clan believing the attack on his family was their doing. Cameron is a gifted healer and is thrown into the rooms of the wounded as she forced to heal them or suffer consequences against her clan. Robert is attracted to his enemy's daughter and fights his feelings. Cameron is a strong-minded heroine with a gift in healing and refuses to believe her father had anything to do with the attacks on the MacDougals. The story blooms from here.

I have to admit that the first half of the book had me disliking Robert. I had to remind myself that the Lairds of this time were strong warriors and rarely showed a soft side. The girl in me wanted to smack him silly for the way he treated Cameron in the beginning and for far too long, in my opinion. I saw more honor and bravery in her than anyone else in the book. But, as most men do.... he finally wised up. What he did with this new-found knowledge will be found in the second half of the book.

It a great read and I would recommend it.

The story begins with the Scots band together against English tyranny, Laird Robert Graham seals a truce with his feuding neighbor clan, the MacDougalls. But after his brother is nearly killed in a attack, Graham kidnaps the laird’s daughter in an act of revenge against the macDougalls.
Cameron MacDougall has devoted her life to the healing people. She’s long rebelled against her father’s feuding with other clans, but when Robert Graham abducts her, she’s finds herself at the center of the dispute between their families that is bigger than just her. She feels anger but did not expect to feel something else, especially not attraction to Graham, or the love she develops for his clan. This book was really good especially if you like highlander series.

Historical romance at its best

I thoroughly enjoyed Cameron. Filled with strong characters both male and female it called to me from the start. The world of Scotland in a fight for it's life made me feel like part of the very fiber of this story.. I loved the strong sassy and brave, Cameron. Her love for the Laird was sweet and passionate. And the Laird is equally strong and quite swoon worthy. McFarland has woven a fine fabric of the times and had me at the edge of my seat. I have become so mesmerized that I have already purchased the next book in the series.I am excited to recommend this book to anyone who loves romance and Scotland. And very stubborn men and women. I loved this book. MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Great Read

I chose four stars as a rating only because some if the wording used in conversations were not appropriate for the time period of the story. I loved Cameron. I found Robert a truly lovable warrior. The story was well developed, moved along nicely and smoothly and kept me interested at all times. There were good nuggets of history thrown in that gave enough to the story to give it a touch of realism. When I finished I am definitely interested in reading the rest of the series. In fact I am very interested in reading any of Lane McFarland's books. Well done! I recommend this book for adult readers 18 and over.

This was my first book by this Author. She had me right at the beginning! Cameron is a healer for the MacDougall clan and daughter of Alastair MacDougall. Throughout the years the clan MacDougall and Graham have not gotten along. To try to be at peace with each other Laird Robert Graham agreed to peace. Robert's brother and captain were shot in the back with arrows and thought the MacDougall's were responsible. Robert takes Cameron hostage, to get back at her dad. I'm so glad she didnt go to bed with him right away. They did fight their attraction, and finally got together. The story flowed easily and kept my attention. Loved it.

I won the book from the author and she was a new to me author. I read the book and can't wait to get the next book. Cameron tries to bring peace between the neighboring clan but someone tries to break the truce. Everything she hopes for and dreams of hangs in the balance. She is a healer, can she help those in need, can she get Laird Robert Graham to see the true, will she die at English hands? What must she do to find a man worthy of her love.

Cameron by Lane McFarland is a wonderfully told story of enemy to friends to love! The challenges of a woman in those times and the really strong one who overcame it to find love and more! It's well written with great conversations, immediate attraction (but didn't jump into bed too fast - a good thing) but slowly building love. Great situations that were interesting and just a enough historical information to make it interesting and realistic. I'll be reading the rest of this series!

Cameron is a sweeping Scottish historical romance featuring an intelligent, compassionate heroine and a to-die-for hero. Lane McFarland's feel for the era is woven throughout the love story of Cameron, a healer, and Robert, an enemy who's destined to become the love of her life. Distinguishing himself as a man of honor, Robert lays claim to Cameron's heart in a touching romance.

Loved this story. I enjoyed the fire in Cameron and her healing ability. And I loved the part about the cave. Robert is honorable and caring. And it shows in how he treats his family. Lane McFarland wrote a very touching story and I can't wait to read the other three in this series

Unclean. I was interested in this book for a long while but couldn't find out if it was clean by the reviews that were given. I took a chance and found out soon it wasn't. A good story nonetheless but for me it could have focused a lot more outside of the bedroom.

Easy read

Good character development. Not very much gratuitous sex, only where it fit. Been looking for a highlander series without constant stupid mistakes made by the heroine.
