April Masterson thought she knew what her life had in store. When her husband Walter gets an important promotion she realizes things are about to get a lot more interesting. Not only is she now expected to fulfill the wildest fantasies of four of the capital’s most powerful lawyers, but she also finds that she has the lust and desire to do it.
Hi, my name is Abby. I hope you enjoy my exciting new romance and erotica stories.
I love stories about strong, female protagonists that give you a good character arc and background to the action as well as providing the steamy details of what they get up to. I am particularly attracted to themes like wife-swapping, voyeurism, exhibitionism, and public and group encounters.
I am thirty-years-old and live in the beautiful forests of rural Ontario, Canada, with my two dogs.
I hope you enjoy my stories. You are always welcome to contact me at: abby@type-writer.net
Thought this would be a good, steamy, short-story. It was disappointing. Even for a smutty read, it was bad.
April is a total pushover and is far too compliant. She just came off as weak and gullible. Her husband was a pig. The other partners were creepy pervs. To top it all off, the book ends abruptly in the middle of the only steamy scene, at a pivotal point in the story! I'm no stranger to cliffhangers, but at least finish the damn scene! I won't be continuing this little series to find out one way or another.
I received a free boxed set of The Arrangement series by Abby Weeks in return for my honest review.
I just started reading The Arrangement 1, and I did not get far before I decided to stop reading the story all together. This was clearly not for me. It is a disturbing story about a helpless, isolated wife, April, emotionally abused by her controlling, degrading, rigid husband, Walter, who was expected to fulfill the fantasies of the partners in her husband's law firm in order to insure his successful partnership.
It was an uncomfortable read for me. It had the feel of the Stepford Wives on steroids, more extreme, intense and sexually explicit. I did not understand April's character at all. She was meek, timid, and fragile when it came to her husband, but quickly could take command of a driver that she felt was out of line. She was forced to abandon her children to boarding school, but then seemed to enjoy the idea of having free time to enjoy the arts and reestablish her career. The scene where April was asked to step onto the pool table, felt almost like a rape scene, but then she would be flirty and revel in the attention. April appeared to take pleasure in this arrangement that the partnership had come up with, empowering her in some twisted way, giving her confidence. I did not particularly care for any of the characters, one was worse than another. I am all for empowering women, but not through sexual exploitation and abuse.
Although I am sure there will be a loyal following to this series, I won't be one of them.
This was a great opening to the series of the Arrangement. I probably would've given it a better rating had I had the next book in hand. I absolutely hate Walter, but the the control, boldness and assertiveness that his wife is finding now that he has made partner. Looking forward to see where this series will go next.
A little confused by this story. I can't decide if I like the overall premise. I'm definitely struggling with the main character, April. Mostly I haven't decided if this serial series is worth buying the following books. So I'll have to give this a solid 3 stars, just okay. Good.
April seems to have it all when looking in from the outside, but the reality is very different. Her husband Walter must have the perfect family; kids, wife, house, in order to make the perfect impression on his new partners at the law firm. So the warm and caring household that seems to exist on the outside is nothing but a facade on the inside. April finds herself questioning her every move, every word when it comes to Walter.
When he announces that he's been promoted, life quickly becomes bittersweet. They are moved into a new home, her daughters are set up to leave for private school soon, and she's given a driver to take her anywhere she wants (but she has lost her privileges for driving). Most of all she is now expected to do any and everything that Walter asks of her--to make a positive impression on the partners. Her house is picked out for her, her furniture is no longer her own, and even her clothes are strongly suggested by others. Confused and frustrated, April realizes that it's not just Walter making these requests, but his new partners.
It becomes apparent that the three other men want something from her. While at a formal dinner party where she is introduced to the partners' wives, April begins to see that things are not what they seem. When she is requested to leave with the men she has no idea the things they will ask of her. She's both frightened and excited by the fact that, for the first time ever these men may give her what her husband has failed to do. Although this may be in new territory, April is intrigued by the turn of events and willing to see how far things can go. At least right now the men in the room with her are making it apparent that they are very happy with her.
What can a woman who appears to have everything, do when it all is truly just smoke and mirrors. For every gift given there is a waiting reaction in the corner. Houses, cars, clothes, and jewelry can be the icing on the cake or the poison that drowns you in your worst fears. For April, finding a balance of being malleable for Walter and his partners, and holding onto who she really is may be a challenge like none she's ever had. Can she embrace the strength she feels when with these men and use it for power, or will she slowly drown in all the glitz and pleasure she's sure to receive?
This was one of those "I should have known better" freebies that I found on Amazon. I'm not sure what exactly I was expecting, but it was certainly not a controlling, adulterating husband, and a meek wife who could change her personality like the flip of a switch if she either thinks someone is being out of line, or she is about to be used sexually be a room full of older men.
From the beginning, I felt there was something not quite right about this book. First April is fondled at a dinner with her husband's new partners, but instead of standing up for herself (either out of her own right or out of fear of her husband's reaction), she not only allows it to happen, she enjoys it. Then she's informed (not asked) that she must pack up her entire house to move to an exclusive gated community, where coincidentally all the other partners live, as well as ship her children off to boarding school. Her reactions are not what I would have expected, and did not seem to fit well with her character.
Overall, there was little depth to this novel at all, the characters were seemingly thrown together (a lot of April's thoughts and choices seemed so out of character for what you knew of her it was laughable), and the plot read a little too much like a bad porno movie.
Although this was book one in a series, I will not be continuing on.
Weeks had me on the edge of my seat as I alternated between feelings of fear and excitement for April. From the beginning I felt a sense of fear, uncertainty, and trepidation. As soon as I expected something awful to happen, something positive would happen instead. However, the positives were too good to be true, and you know what they say about things that are too good to be true...
From the beginning, you wonder if her husband is abusive from the way she responds to him. As the story progresses, his demeanor fluctuates and her responses change. April's husband becomes a partner and suddenly their life completely changes. Suddenly they are both on a power trip. The partner's are very interested in April, and we know something is going to happen there, as well as suspect things are happening with April's husband and the partner's wives.
The ending was abrupt, not in a bad way, but in an "I want more!" way. What happens with her kids being sent off to boarding school? What happens with the partners and April? What role do the other wives play? How does April's life change now? 100 pages went too quickly! Must read part 2!!!!
This first instalment in The Arrangement is emotionally charged. I ran the gamut while reading it. I was shocked, happy, nervous, saddened. There’s also a bit of a sinister feel to the story as well. Weeks’ foreshadowing draws you forward through this short story and right into the next.
You get to know the main character of this novella very well: her past, her present, who she was, who she is, who she will become. You start to see her coming into her own right at the end of the story. You also get introduced to the supporting cast with the insinuation that you’ll find out more in the next book.
Overall, this story has me quite intrigued and I’m definitely interested in finding out what comes next. It’s a quick, racy read that is a great read in to the series.
Ridiculously poorly written abuse porn. Also? Quotation marks, AKA these thingies "" exist for a reason. Replacing them with a -- before every line of dialog is never going to be acceptable. I can't even take this seriously enough to go any further. Can I give a negative star rating? Because I'd very much like to.
This wasn't what I thought it would be I didn't like it. It was weird and what mom would send he children off so she could be used by a room full men without being asked. I don't think I will be reading the series. the characters are just odd and I can't get past the strange feeling.
One of these days I will get revenge on my book club - although I must admit that some of these stories have given us not only a good laugh - but a great discussion on meeting night.
Last week - we devoured The Arrangement 1 and well - have you seen that episode of Futurama where there is a train wreck - and even knowing there is a train wreck - they send in another train?
Yeah - that best sums up this - hell does it even count as a novella if it's less than 100 pages?
LT;DR - this one wasn't for me for a variety of reasons. A major one being I like my female lead to ENJOY what is being done to her. Not one who simply allows herself to be degraded, told what to do in regards to her children and can't make up her mind whether she enjoys what is being done to her or not.
Walter has received a promotion and life as he and April know it will change. First they move, get new furniture, look at boarding school, then April realizes more will change. As she meets the partners and their wives, she knows there is much she has not been told.
I liked April. I dislike Walter. The partners are on the periphery now. I suspect I'll learn more of them and their wives in the next episodes of this series. I think I know what will be going on. Something tells me I will never like Walter but I do not know if I will like any of the others.
This book is the set up for the series. The world building is good. I feel like April. I'm confused and at a loss as to what to expect and what is expected of April. I hope to find out soon what happens.
Wow...just wow. This has got to be one of the hottest books I've read in a long time, and I read a lot of naughty books. I can't wait to sink my teeth onto the next book...so hot. Oh what it would be like to be in April's place. Makes me hot just thinking about it. Great read, highly recommend it if you are looking for something that will turn you on and make you want more.
This short little story had me anticipating the climax but then the climax was lacking. I was expecting more and got to little of a sample to indulge myself. I hope the next book in the series is more climatic.
I'm so confused. This story seems to take place in the 50s or 60s but then all of a sudden it seems current. Why is the wife's name April? Nobody born prior to 1975 is named April. I'm pretty sure I just made that fact up but I bet I'm right. The other character's names are Walter, Herb, Midge etc. which indicates that they're old and the story was a long time ago. April drives a Studebaker and Walter got a baby blue Cadillac with fins!!
Fast forward a little further and April is fully shaved, works out four times a week and wears a thong/g-string. And Herb bought her lingerie; not a house coat with big giant shiny underwear but hot sexy lingerie!! I would ask my mom if they had any of this stuff back in the day, but she'd be horrified, embarrassed and think I'm insane. Either way I'm not buying the timeframe.
Oh and where are the quotation marks? Everybody's lines are listed with hyphens. It's like we're reading the author's notes sort of like an outline of the story and they just got published before she made it into a book format.
I love how April is so in love with her kids but then start imagining a fun life for herself while they're sent off to boarding school. She's a humble family woman one second then drunk on wealth and power the next. Oh and my other favorite part was when she describes that Walter only have sex twice a month in their "matrimonial bed" yet she goes down on him in the car while the driver watches. Seriously?!! And that final scene in the den. Oh boy.
This book is horrendous and I'm so morbidly curious I'm going to get the next one just so I continue making fun of it. Thank goodness for KU.
There were some good things about this and some things I just couldn't get behind. April has what appears to be a good life. Her husband just got a promotion at his firm and by all rights she should be happy. Her thoughts just don't run that way though. We gather her husband is cheating and has been for a very long time. He's very controlling and she goes with the flow to ensure his happiness even though she's not happy.
The night her husband, Walter gets promoted they have a dinner with his partners. This is where things start to get weird and kinky at the same time. The ending was pretty hot and I like that April found some backbone of her own but there's just one decision that I can't stand behind that she let her husband make. Obviously, I'm not the type of person that could stand by while my life is ruled but perhaps, I'm not giving her enough credit or time. However, it's possible as the storyline progresses through the series that things start to look up for her. For me, 2.5 stars.
This book is.... Meh.... It confused me more than anything really, April started out very unsure of herself, then with a bit of money she becomes this arrogant person, she was forced to have her 2 girls sent off to boarding school which she cried about then the next day she was fine with it and thinking about all the things she could do with her life that left me like "what?" They go to a formal dinner party, she was bought a dress by one of the partners which she was uncomfortable in but her penis of a husband told her she had to wear it so she did, then the book ended with her being sexually exploited by practically strangers while her husband watched and she enjoyed it!! This book was too weird for me and left me too confused I don't think I'll buy the others, Walter is a control freak who is happy to exploit his wife and send his kids off for a partnership and April has turned into an arrogant woman who likes being sexually exploited not for me thanks!
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, oooh...I got a new attitude!!!
I knew from the first paragraph that Walter was a self-serving jerk. He had to have his way and if April ever objected to anything he had to make his wife feel bad about it.
But I like how his new position at his job brought forth a new position and attitude in her life. She became more bold. Sometimes the boldness faltered when it came to Walter but little by little April gained confidence. She started to learn things about herself that she would never had imagined (for example, I believe she is an exhibitionist and gets off being the center of attention).
The best part of this book for me is the ending. You just have to read it for yourself. It left me like this o_O. My facial expression was priceless. I was just stunned!!! I have no idea where this story is leading to but one thing I do know is that I am going along for the ride.
This is the first installment of a serial novel but it is free, like a sample you can read this first decide if you like it and want to read more or not. It is now available as a complete book.
I found this book intriguing I genuinly wanted to know where this book was going. Sadly this first part ended just as it was getting good.
April in one breath was insecure and worried she would loose everything at any moment and in the next believed herself to be sexy and the best looking woman the man had ever seen. Really? Her husband Walter is a controlling husband who treats his wife poorly he is not physically abusive but it sure sounds like he may be mentally. Then he offers up his wife for the other partners at the firm where he works. What?
I found the back and forth personalities of the Hh a bit confusing but I am still curious where this book will go from here.
April's character makes me think of the movie the Ugly Truth with Gerald Butler and Katie Heigl. And how in the movie Gerald had to teach her how to be the cross behind the librarian and the stripper, so i'm wondering if the same concept is being applied here, and kind of foreshadowing what could be happening in some workplaces nowadays. Also the fact that she has low self esteem and that every move is being controlled by her husband and the men that he works for at the firm, really bothers me and how she never really seems to question anything that is happening to her at all in this book. Overall I might need to read the next one just to get a glimpse of what's going to happen next, so far I've enjoyed the story and I'm interested in knowing just where the plot is going to go next, and what is going to happen to her as the story progresses.
A house wife who has been psychologically abused into a position of submission is where the story opens. Weakened by childhood insecurities she finds herself exactly where she swore she would never be. Existing to suffer the whims of her husband. When an offer of partnership is accepted, she finds her life is now being dictated by four men.
There are several scenes I'm at odds with. A subjugated woman who sneers down at her chauffer; the abandonment of her 4 and 6y/o girls to boarding school so she could focus on hobbies; the sudden confidence found while being sexually humiliated and the whole picture perfect Stepford Wives feel. It just did my head in.
However...
I do like the sexy vibe it has. I liked it so much that I purchased the entire series. In fact I have a feeling Abby Weeks will become a hot new favourite of mine.
Where to begin? The grammar? Okay, the author is apparently allergic to to quotation marks. Seriously, it's like she typed this out in a series of text messages. Then the anachronisms. If The Bell Jar hadn't been published in the US it's somewhere between 1963 and 1973 (and, him these men having a signed copy of this book. 'Sure, Jan' not only does it NOT fit in with their beliefs at all; it's also a little heavy handed symbolism), but G-strings weren't around until the 1980s-90s. Plus, at that time you couldn't just "put on a movie" for your children, women didn't go to the gym at all- let alone 4 times a week. Hair straighteners were unheard of. This story would have worked in modern day so I don't know the reason for poorly attempting to set it in the 1960s. I won't be reading anymore from this series.
I thought the characters in this book were very intriguing ...Walter is a very controlling dominate character that seems like he has a lot of deep dark secrets lurking in his mind April has that submissive / dominate character likes to be controlled but doesn't like to give up control and now she has the whole lavish new lifestyle and is now becoming aware of her part in this lifestyle will she becoming more controlling or will she bare more and become more of a submissive within the firm and unleash her inner self and find inner happiness within herself as she seems a broken characters hat has a darkened past herself ... Given in 3 star it was a well written book and kept you guessing but just too short ..will definitely read the rest of the series tho :)
