In this prequel to the upcoming novel Secrets & Sins, author Bettye Griffin transports readers back to 1950s Chicago, to the wedding of Lorraine Hawkins and Vernon Pace. Lorraine is the daughter of a maid, while Vernon comes from one of the leading families in the area. Regardless of Vernon's background, many people have doubts about his ability to settle down...including Lorraine. What no one knows is that this marriage will set the stage for events that will forever change the lives of both Lorraine and her best friend, Julia Scott, as well as affect the lives of future generations.
This prequel also includes the opening chapters of Secrets & Sins.
Ms. Griffin wrote an enticing teaser of her upcoming book Secrets and Sins. This prequel has enough mystery and intrigue to create a desire to know what happened in the lives of the characters.

Bettye Griffin always intrigues with her books. Just the title makes you want to read on. This is a short prequel and sets the stage for Secrets and Sins. You can read Secrets and Sins without reading the prequel, but you will miss out on the background that is so needed.
I thoroughly enjoyed this short prequel. It was well-written, engaging, and it served its purpose of piquing my interest about the next installment of the story. Can't wait to see how the rest of the story unfolds! Highly recommend this read!
Adrienne Thompson Author of the Been So Long series
Short story but very insightful, set in the 1950's when life was different. World Was II was just ending causing problems for African Americans if they looked the wrong way. Have things changed or not as we enter the 21st century.
