As Ben settles into his new life as rancher and owner of the MB connected, he finds that his past will not lie down and rest. Whenever a crisis arises the first name called is Ben Blue. He is the one with the experience. He is also the one man in Taos County who cannot and will not turn his back on trouble, especially if there are innocents are in peril. His willingness to put his own life at risk for the sake of others could cost him the one thing he wants more than all else.
Lou Bradshaw is a lifelong story teller, who spent most of his life as a commercial illustrator and graphic artist. Deadlines, clients, and vendors were all sources of sleep depriving stress. To combat insomnia, he would often create stories in his mind to take the place of what was bothering him. Soon, some of those stories had grown to the point that they needed to be put on paper. Taking up a felt tip pen and a loose leaf binder, he found something new, challenging, and exciting. He soon filled multiple binders and his distraction had become a passion. Upon retirement, he began assembling notes and scribbles into novels… the rest is history. One of the unique features of his work is that as a dyslexic child, he was considered either slow or lazy by most of his teachers. To date he has written 7 books, which is 6 more than he was able to read while in school. His only legitimate book report, although 3 months late, was Huckleberry Finn. Lou and his wife Avon live in the Missouri Ozarks, where they enjoy their family, golf, and the great outdoors.
Impress! Impressive! Impressive! I cannot say anymore than that. These books are certainly habit forming and I am anxiously awaiting the story. Just a wonderful rendition of our true old western folklore.
What can I say: Five stars and more. Ben Blue series walks in pretty good company: Joe Pickett an Shorty Thompson series, to mention a couple of great ones.
This is a very heartwarming adventure and the final paragraph came too quickly. I am amazed at Mr. Bradshaw's quick wit and his exceptionally talented writing exploits. This story, as the first book, is filled with many tangents of exciting escapades, and the romantic stories are plentiful enough to keep the reader guessing.
I definitely recommend this great western story to all lovers of western excitement and romance. The story is filled with compassionate love of our fellowman, and the storylines are very descriptive of the old western atmosphere. The descriptiveness of characters were impressive and the final results were well described by the author.
Do not miss reading this series, or the loss is certainly yours!
I had previously stated I may not read another Lou Bradshaw novel since I was only seeking just a sampling of his writing. But his storytelling talent drew me in and I purchased most of his series. Some reviewers gives his books a lowly 1 star and complain about his minor errors without consideration he earns but 35 cents on these great storytelling books and could unlikely afford a professional editor. They also fail to read the About the Author section and see why it is not perfect. Ben Blue was an early book, I think his third novel. Since then he has written many and has made his place in American Western storytelling that ought to deliver some big shot awards. He deserves them. I will read more, maybe all of his novels since it is topnotch storytelling.
I’m an addicted Western fan and have many, many read on my Kindel. Nearly all of the really good Western authors. I especially enjoy series books that build on each other. I read about Lou Bradshaw in a review of another author’s books as an excellent story teller.....so I tried Hickory Jack, the first of the Ben Blue series. It met my every expectation. When I finished it, I move w/o any hesitation to Blue (Ben Blue Book 2.). Excellent. All characters well developed, some carried over from first book. I have just downloaded Ace High (Ben Blue Book 3), to my Kindel. I NEVER do three in a row by accident. It’s time for you to meet Hickory Jack Andy Moore and Ben Blue. If you like Westerns, good characters, complete stories, life in the old developing West, you will love these. - ‘ole joe 😊☦️🇺🇸
4 STARS of Western Drama that takes place several years after the Civil War with Ben Blue ranching & serving in his capacity as a Special Deputy US Marshall when he was needed in that area & was called to duty. This is an Excellent example of a shoot em up western & saloon fighting hijinks. Interesting ways of rustling cows to Amazing locales when tracking theives or murderers. A great western to read.
never a dull moment. An excellent and most enjoyable read. Lou Bradshaw spends a yarn as I no other. Always hate to see the end of one of Bradshaw's books. So interesting and believable. Well, off to the computer and more Bradshaw. So, "Giddy up."
An LB Ben Blue Western (2) The Outlaw Gang on the Run
LB has penned the 2nd Western Novel About the mountain, outlaws, and possee in trouble in the lower mountains near Sante Fe and Taos, New Mexico. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
Marvelous action, good characters, good plot. Old Boy ain't married yet, but they are closing in on him. Was wondering how you were going to do this story and you did fine.
This was an awesome western novel. Once started you'll find it hard to put down. It's got to be one of Bradshaw's absolute best stories! I would highly recommend it!
Mr Bradshaw obviously has experience with western, cowboy, type people and places. He is kinda like a cross between Louis Lamour and Samuel Clemens. Very enjoyable reading.
This is second in the Ben Blue series where we find Ben developing a ranch in a large protected valley. The story is narrated by Ben and we experience life from his perspective including the doubt, the hope and the willingness to face danger. He is now a Deputy US Marshal and works with the local sheriff and the US Marshal when confronted with danger to his friends and neighbors. He has become friends with a Mexican family who support and care for and about him. We engage in all of his episodes of danger, every day life, romance and fear as experienced by Ben. The characters are fully developed and we understand the world from their perspective.
I recommend this as a great book from Lou Bradshaw who has a unique and interesting writing style. There is enough danger for any western reader.
Ben Blue will track you down and end your outlawing foolishness. A good western will take you back to a simpler time. If you broke the law, you got tracked down by the marshal and the posse. This is a good story that paints a really good picture of life in the old west.
Despite minor irritation at a few spelling and editing errors that are really common in many ebooks I am a huge Bradshaw fan. I only wish I were half as good at story telling.
I am starting Ben Blues 3rd book,so far I have enjoyed his adventures and the fact there are no profanity in the story which is a plus for me,also his character had a Christian up bringing even though he has had to kill to survive
Excellent storytelling. A few grammar errors but not enough to matter. Wonderful characters, vivid description of country, and great action scenes. Ben Blue is almost God like. These westerns are movie worthy but Hollywood would probably mess them up.
