Haunted by desire...When Rayanne's favourite uncle leaves her a secluded mountain cabin in his will, she feels an instinctive pull to the place--and to the ghost town nearby. But is she drawn there by her love of history? Or by the memory of the mysterious stranger whose ice-blue eyes have haunted her dreams since she was a girl? She soon discovers that her destiny and the brooding gunslinger's are intertwined. Wyatt carries the burden of a dark past, and Rayanne is the only woman who can bring him peace. But to give him the release he needs, she may need to sacrifice the most powerful love she's ever known.
Alexis Morgan grew up near St. Louis and received a B.A. in English from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She and her husband have made the Pacific Northwest their home for more than thirty years, where she launched her career as a writer. She is published in paranormal romance, fantasy romance, American West historicals, and most recently, contemporary romances with her new Snowberry Creek series.
"Immortal Cowboy" was quite a difference from the usual vampire/werewolf genre. It took place in a ghost town where a little girl sees a shoot-out and sees a handsome gunslinger gunned down. She comes back years later to get information on the gunslinger not realizing his ghost hasn't forgotten her, either. Very good.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. She was a historian and upon the death of her beloved uncle received his deceased estate. A cabin in the mountain area and the whole ghost within. One problem was the conditions her uncle had attached to the will and the other was the ghost that haunted the area. She had a special gift and like some of her ancestors before her, she was able to see the ghost. He was a gunslinger shot down when the odds were stacked against him while trying to save the town. He lingers between two worlds - the living and the dead and can't pass until he no longer regrets what had happened. They fall in love and every now and then he becomes human. At the end they realise what must be done to free him. HEA ending.
I can't lie. I really enjoy this one. There are so many things that try and throw me out of it - the really weird representation of academia and the life of a professional historian; the terrible early 2000s diet discourse (oh no, a root beer flat, I'll have to eat lettuce FOR DAYS); lots of emphasis on squishy sweaty slapping (not my thing); and a ghostly perv.
I'm not selling it yet, but it is fun. I like how the author works with the ghostliness and gets round it. Does she have the title character tells us he literally has 'no idea' how he comes back? Sure. Who needs lore! Who needs reason! Not I.
As other people have said, it's a nice change from the more common figures of the paranormal romance (vampires and werewolves).
This is not really part of Alex Morgan’s vampire series, but I read it as if it was and glad I did. It’s a lot longer and more of a western ghost town ghost story. But very interesting and even quirky. With a beautiful happy ever after.
Rayanne is a wonderful character. She’s smart, quirky, brave, and determined. And Wyatt is just mysterious, tragic and courteous enough to be a true western hero and lover, even though he’s a…..?
Fave scenes: the repaired steps, looking at Rayanne’s drawings, the dream and sending mother packing.
I skim read most of this one on my library app (which ended up taking over most of my Memorial day anyway). I was surprised at this one. It had a likable main female lead (Rayanne), and you felt for Wyatt's exhaustion and pain for being alone for so long. Rayanne's job seemed interesting and made sense, the setting had this little paranormal fantasy twist to it... the relationship felt like it grew over time (even if it didn't make 100% sense)...I just found it entertaining as I flipped through the book.
Take out the sex scenes and I probably would see something like this as a light hearted Hallmark movie (but I guess all romance novels are like that). I think it's time for me to get back to some other novels that are not the romance genre and maybe a bit better written, but this one was a good day flip through.
A truly wild premise. I like a good ghost story, but I wish there was more conversation between the hero and heroine and more logic involved in the world building
3.5 purely for the ghost lover, the phantom paramour, the specter sweetheart ….clearly I need more of the trope. However, the afterlife rules and the ending were implausible.
I enjoyed the "duh duh duh" moments and the atmosphere but the romance felt a bit flat and it would have been nice for the solution at the end to have a stronger explanation.
It was a good story. Well written with a good flow. The characters had the right balance of fiesty and friendly. I liked the premise of the book... a ghostly cowboy doomed to relive his last moments in a ghost town every year unless true love can break the curse. The story could have benefitted from a little more "gunslinger" action, but as a romance it was more on the sensual side instead of explicit, which is more palatable for me. Overall as a paranormal romance it worked. I think anyone who has a penchant for cowboys, ghostly lovers/soul mates, and a hint of mystery will enjoy this slim read.
Every year in August, Wyatt is forced back to life for one day to relive the gunfight where he died defending a small Colorado mountain town, now a ghost town. This year, it'll be different with Rayeanne living at her late Uncle's mountain cabin for the summer.
Two people are destined to fall in love but he's a ghost and she's a mortal. I thought Alexis Morgan spin an entertaining romance in Immortal Cowboy. It's worth a read.
I love these ghost love stories of which there are precious few. The story was sweet with the right amount of tender loving heat. It ended on a nice note that lets you know everything will work out. I’d just wish there was a epilogue to know how their love turned out in the coming years.
I absolutely love ghost stories and time travel. This was just what I was looking for. I wish there were more of this trope but I can't seem to find many.
I haven't read a ghost romance in ages. Alexis Morgan has me wondering why not. This story has a ruggedly handsome tortured ghost gunslinger who is forced into stepping out onto the street of Blessing only to get shot to death year after year after year. It's a torture he's come to accept and feels he deserves since he caused the death of someone he held dear.
Many years later, a young girl named Rayanne happens to be visiting her uncle who lives up on the mountain close to Blessing. One day, while exploring Blessing, she witnesses the ghost town come alive and while hiding in the bell tower, also witnesses Wyatt's death. After that day, she doesn't return for years. Her uncle passes away and leaves her his cabin and the mountain along with the ghost town. Rayanne returns to fulfill the stipulations of her uncle's will and she and Wyatt form a connection where he is able to take on a living, breathing form. Even though they both know a relationship between them will never work, they give and take all the pleasure they can before the anniversary of Wyatt's death comes around again. Even though Rayanne knows that breaking the curse that has Wyatt doomed to repeat his death for all time will take him from her, she does everything she can to release this man she's come to love. I really enjoyed this short story. Alexis is such a wonderful writer and, just like with her vampire stories, she has a way of sucking you right in at the very beginning.
I really loved this story! I loved Wyatt and Rayanne! I spent my time wishing that they would get their happily ever after!
This story is about Rayanne Allen (a history professor) and Wyatt McCain (the ghost of a gunslinger). Rayanne saw Wyatt get shot when she was thirteen years old. Wyatt was gunned down in Blessing a hundred years in the past while trying to protect the town from some bad men. Every year he walks around as a ghost until that fateful day when history is repeated and he dies. Rayanne's family owns the mountain and the ghost town that comes with it. Her family has a gift for sensing ghosts and seeing the history repeating itself. Rayanne inherits the mountain and Blessing when her uncle dies. However, to claim her inheritance she has to live on the mountain over the summer. Ever since that fateful day when she saw him get shot, Wyatt McCain has haunted her dreams. She can't get the blue eyed stranger out of her mind. While living in her uncles house, she sees Wyatt again and they develop a friendship. Wyatt and Rayanne are very attracted to each other and are falling in love. Will these star crossed lovers get the chance to be together? Will Rayanne be able to save Wyatt from having to face getting shot another year? Read to find out!
I tried this book on a whim, mostly because I giggled at the cover and title. It was OK for me, not bad but not my usual fare. Kind of a paranormal Western, a ghost story set in present day but involving an old wild-west mining town from years before. I liked how the story began with Rayanne as a child and continued to the present. I got why Wyatt was still haunting the town, but never really understood why all the other ghosts were still around. The reasons for why he was sometimes visible and corporal and other times not was shaky. I liked that Rayanne was smart, and open to accepting strange things (like seeing ghosts). I did not like her interactions with her shrill mother and sort of boyfriend. Those scenes were uncomfortable and didn't add anything for me. The ending seemed forced and didn't wrap up the mythology at all. Overall it was pleasant but lacked depth.
She sees ghosts. And... touches them? What a cool concept! A spooky ghost town from the old West and a tragic event that is doomed to repeat itself every year. She's a historian, studying a town that ceased to be over one hundred years ago. He's the ghost of a gunslinger who died on that sad day so long ago. They might be able to fall in love, but they couldn't possibly get their own happily ever after, right? But with every turn of the page, I got drawn more and more into Rayanne and Wyatt's story. I loved her fiery, independent nature and the way she truly cared for her Uncle Ray. And I loved Wyatt's more complicated layers and all he'd been through over and over for decades on end. I took this book with me on vacation and it really added to my enjoyment of the trip. I'll always associate Hawaii with old West ghost towns now. ;)
Fantastic book and a quick read. Rayanne inherits her uncle Ray's cabin that also includes it's very own ghost town. Of course Rayanne's parents don't understand why she wants to keep it. One stipulation of the will is that she has to stay in the cabin through the summer. She has always loved this place and she can't help having a fascination with the ghost town of Blessing as she is a historian. However Rayanne starts to see ghosts and especially one in particular Wyatt. Soon Wyatt is able to communicate with Rayanne and she realizes that Wyatt has to relive the day that he died over and over again. Can Wyatt and Rayanne find a way to change what happens that day? Great book!
Paranormal romance with a ghostly gunslinger hero and a psychic heroine who gets drawn into a repeating ghostly time loop of an Old Wild West town she inherits from her crazy uncle.
Quite enjoyed this. Characters were fine and the story reasonably interesting. It did however fail to explain the mechanics of ANYTHING - how our ghosts cold become tangible, where they dissipated to, why Wyatt, the hero manifested much longer than the other spirits.
As a nice light paranormal romance you could do worse than check this out. It does exactly what you'd expect for a book entitled Immortal Cowboy. Entertaining, but not amazing.
A romance that has it all History, Death, Sorrow, Longing, Putting the past right, Saying Goodbye, Family and a land that will be protected for generations to come and finally what's in every heart that beats strong is LOVE. Immortal Cowboy (Vampire #6 in this Nocturne Series by: Alexis Morgan is all this and more. Don't believe me read it for your self.
"A novel storyline and great description make this story a solid read. The depictions of the old town and the gunfight come alive for the reader. Wyatt is also well done, as is the way he loses the power to show up when he's exhausted (RT Book Reviews)". 4 stars
