Deeply touching romance!
Pine Country Cowboy touched my heart on many levels, because I can relate to the experiences in this story. With thoughtfulness and realism, Glynna Kaye explores the difficulties of trying to understand the heartbreak in our lives.

We follow the developing relationship between Abby Diaz, hurt by more than a broken engagement, and Brett Marden, living with the pain of loss, as they try to understand why the life each of them imagined did not happen. They both have deep hurts, but find if they can trust one another by sharing their honest emotions, God’s loving guidance will help them move beyond tragedies to a satisfying life together.

Vivid characters facing great emotional challenges and the strength of the small community of Canyon Springs, Arizona, provide an inspirational story that touches the heart. I know I’ll enjoy reading more books by Glynna Kaye.

I wish I could say that this was an amazing book. I wish I could say that the story really hit home, or touched my life, or had a faith in it that made my soul sing. But I can say *NONE* of the above.

The spirituality in this one is barely even there (which... it's a love INSPIRED book, so... shouldn't there be faith as a central theme?!). The characters were typical of Glynna - a female you really can't like, and a guy who all but has a dazzle starburst on his teeth when he smiles. You have to want to see a selfish, catty, whiny woman land a playboy (who, of course, gives up his flirtatious ways for JUST HER AND ONLY HER).

That's not my schtick. I wouldn't give this guy the time of day. Go flirt elsewhere. And no librarian worth her salt would do otherwise, so the whole thing is flawed, for me.

More, it's all about Cystic Fibrosis, which is never really explained, and I *STILL* don't understand. They say it's super rare (30,000 in America have it), but I know a 40-something woman who has it, and if anti-social me knows someone, then is it really that rare, and if the woman I know is 40-something, works full time, has a daughter and does roller derby for fun... just how 'dehabilitating' is it? It just didn't work for me.

Plus the whole 'keeping secrets' thing. Like it's the END OF THE WORLD that she can't have babies... for some undisclosed (super cheatish, Kaye) reason. And it's just *devastating*, I tell you! Children are the be-all and end-all in our society!!! ((Wait, no... that's not how it is, anymore...)) I wish I could feel her pain, but mostly she just came off as shriveled inward and not terribly redeemable, as a character. WHY do I want him to land her, again?! Wait, I... mostly didn't.

I've read eight or so Glynna Kaye books, and having said, this is the high-end of what she has to offer. I'm sorry to say that, actually... And I have two more to go. ((Well, one. I read the back cover on one last night, opened it to the first page, read two paragraphs and announced "I... DO NOT want to read this." My husband shrugged and said, "Then don't. It's not like you don't have hundreds more just like it on your 'Love Inspired' shelving in the basement." So... one more.

This book was not forced. The characters felt real and were enjoyable. I especially liked that this wasn't a cookie cutter book. So many times, the ending of Christian romances
The book deals with real topics--cystic fibrosis and infertility. I deals with divorces where one person chooses to walk out, and there is nothing the other person can do to stop it from happening. Being a Christian in this fallen world is hard--and this book shows how a person can go through that hard and still be comforted by God's grace.

Romance but with a twist. Cystic fibrosis being the part of the plot to educate us.

This was a sweet romance about two people having to learn to trust again and build relationships again. Abby is in town to help out her family, a family she's not super close with due to her parents' divorce years earlier. Brett is working at a horse therapy center, but he too has his own troubles he is working through. While Abby wants to get closer to her family (namely her father), she is still haunted by the lack of love that she recalls from her childhood. She grows closer to her nephew, who in turn is growing closer to his new cowboy friend Brett, she can't help but grow closer to Brett as well. But she harbors a secret that she knows would be a deal breaker for Brett, who has made no secret of wanting a family of his own. Will she be able to have the courage to fight for her country cowboy, or will she return to the life she had and now is wanting her back?

And the story goes like this …

First thing you should know, I have more books waiting on my bookshelf to be read then any person has a right to have. So, when I went to the store with my daughter, and I stopped in the book section to see if one of my favorite authors new books had arrived, I had no intentions of purchasing any others. Sadly, they didn’t have the book I was looking for.

My first mistake, spotting a LOVE INSPIRED book with a cowboy on the front cover. That gets me every time. Second mistake, I picked it up. Third mistake, read the back cover. Fourth mistake, opened it up and began to read.

Doomed. Done for.

Not done, as in no longer interested. Done, as in I couldn’t stop reading. Knowing full well I didn’t need to purchase another book, especially by an author I had yet to read, I slowly pushed my cart away from the book section – with the book in my hand, eyes focused on the words.

Yeah, I was done for.

Abby Diaz got in her car and drove to Canyon Springs, the small town her father and brother lives in. A town she has not been in for more years then she cares to admit.

Brett Marden has it all together. A ladies man, self-assured, carefree. Well, at least that’s what those around him believe. Not many know the deep dark secrets he carries, and he plans to keep it that way.

As cliché as it sounds, PINE COUNTRY COWBOY by GLYNNA KAYE, had me from the very first page, right to the last word. It now sits on my shelf of keepers. Those are the books I’ve read that are so good, there’s no way I’m giving them up.

MS KAYE is an amazing writer. PINE COUNTRY COWBOY is well thought-out, believable, engaging, the ideal pace, and superb writing. Her characters are well thought-out, likeable, with distinct personality. The storyline unique, diverse, with humor, and surprises that will have your jaw slack.

If after reading my review if it is in question if I will be reading more by MS KAYE, then I have not done my job in writing it.

Pine Country Cowboy
Book 6

The latest from Pine Country lets us meet two new characters and revisit the family from the very first book. Though it's been awhile, I remember Joe and Meg's story and little Davy who brought them together. Now Meg is at the end of a troubled pregnancy and Joe's sister, Abby showed up for a surprise visit to reconnect with her father and brother only to be "stuck" taking care of Davy when Meg has to be rushed to a hospital. Every time Abby thinks she's free to leave, Meg's hospital stay is extended and her brother is trying to take care of her, Davy, and work. Abby has no choice but to stay.

Enter sexy, broken-hearted cowboy who immediately begins flirting with Abby who seems to be carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. Her story is sad - a broken engagement due to some devastating medical news. But the cowboy has his own broken heart with a failed marriage that followed a tragedy in his life. The two have the worry of someone accepting them - scars and medical issues and all - not knowing that God could possibly have them chosen for each other.

This was a wonderful story. I really liked both characters and the struggles they each faced. Though we don't always handle our problems the way we should - laying them down at the cross of Jesus - it's good to know we have others there to help us figure it out. The romance was wonderful! There were hints throughout the book without too much fighting.

Abby and Brett both have secrets. Abby shares her secret with Brett, but being a man, Brett can't seem to let go of his loss and share the secret he's spent 7 years hiding. When his twin sisters finally let the cat out of the bag, Abby is understandably upset.

I enjoyed this book, because it's a love story, that also brings the Good Lord into it. It's also nice to be able to read a story without the couple crawling into bed with each other.

As far as Love Inspired books go, this one wasn't bad. The two protagonists actually had believable stumbling blocks in the way of their relationship that they had to work through which I appreciated.

For those of you who get turned off by too much faith/religion in your light fiction, this book probably is not for you.

Overall, I thought it was enjoyable.

Great inspirational reading

****
Chose this book because I like contemporary western romance. Enjoyed the conflict of the hero's and the heroine's dilemma and how it was resolved through faith and perseverance. Good quick read.

"Touching scenes accurately depict loss. Cystic fibrosis is presented realistically, and the camp described is a wonderful way to provide a sense of normalcy (RT Book Reviews)". 4 stars
